5 out of 5 stars I am a Little Hedgehog.......2000-12-17

I bought this book for my toddler son who loves his stuffed Hedgehog. I was very impressed with the illustrations in the book. They were very realistic giving him a good idea of hedgehogs in the wild. Also, having only a a sentence or two per page makes it easier to hold his attention to the book. It was a good story providing young children with an introduction to wild life. The book was also well contructed with young readers in mind who are not always carefull with things. I would reccomend this book to anyone with small kids.

    5 out of 5 stars a memory revisited.......2005-11-30

I had had a copy of this book for as long as I can remeber. I am now 21 and this is one of my all time favorite books, and a wonderful memory. I lost my copy of this book. My mom and I were talking about it and I thought, hey, I should look on line for a copy of it. And now I am beyod excited to oreder my copy of this book. It's the best! I am so excited to share this book with my daughter!

5 out of 5 stars Best Christmas Memory.......2003-12-04

This book is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the best children's Christmas book i've seen. This will be the 3rd copy I have purchased. The first was when my first child was born in 80' she loves it still to this day, and after she had begged and pleaded for me to hand it down to her (i cd not part w/ it), I found a copy on-line so I purchased it. Now she is having my first grandchild so she has requested that I try to find her another copy so she could always keep hers and have one to pass on to her child as well. Both copies I have received still have a slight smell on several of the stickers, and that is what makes this book so special the memory is still brought back with the smells and she LOVES it. This is a very good investment that produces a lifetime of memories in such a small package!

      Book Description

      It’s a quiet evening at Hedgehog’s house,
until there’s a squeak at the gate.
Someone’s outside who wants to come in.
It’s dark and the hour is late.

It’s someone who’s lost and wants to go home,
someone who can’t find the way.
“Come in,” invites Hedgehog, “come in and sit down.
Tomorrow will be a new day.”

Winsome watercolor art and rhyming text combine to tell the sweet story of a little piglet who is lost and cannot find her way home.

        Book Description

To celebrate Peter's birthday, Frederick Warne is publishing new editions of all 23 of Potter's original tales, which take the very first printings of Potter's works as their guide. The aim of these editions is to be as close as possible to Beatrix Potter's intentions while benefiting from modern printing and design techniques.

The colors and details of the watercolors in the volumes are reproduced more accurately than ever before, and it has now been possible to disguise damage that has affected the artwork over the years. Most notably, The Tale of Peter Rabbit restores six of Potter's original illustrations. Four were sacrificed in 1903 to make space for illustrated endpapers, and two have never been used before. Of course, Beatrix Potter created many memorable children's characters, including Benjamin Bunny, Tom Kitten, Jemima Puddle-duck and Jeremy Fisher. But whatever the tale, both children and adults alike can be delighted by the artistry in Potter's illustrations, while they also enjoy a very good read. Because they have always been completely true to a child's experience, Potter's 23 books continue to endure.

3 out of 5 stars Door into the hills.......2006-09-25

Lucy is a human character introduced to the Peter Rabbit series, has a bad habit of losing her pocket-handkerchiefs and this time she lost 3. She search for it high and low but couldn't find them anywhere. But what she found something else in the hills while searching and it is a door going straight into the hill.

There, she meets an intriguing character with "hairpins" sticking out of her back who calls herself Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, who happens to be a washerwomen for all of the other animals. Turned out her missing hankies and pinny are being wash by Mrs Tiggy-Winkle.

This is an interesting book and my favorite part is the ever so questions answered with "it you please'em". Beautiful colourful illustration to enjoy. Weird storyline though but it's an interesting non the less. Kids owuld enjoy this with an awe. Not a keeper but it's a good read.

5 out of 5 stars A beautiful book for children.......2003-10-30

Lucy is always misplacing her things. No matter how good she tries to be, she still loses her hankies and other things. One day, she decided to go on a hunt for her hankies. Along the way, she asks creatures if they've seen her handerchief. And she meets Mrs. TIggy-Winkle.

It is a charming story with beautiful illustrations. My boys really enjoy looking at the pictures of this book! I enjoy reading this one to them! When they are older, this book will be perfect for their beginner's lessons. The pictures are charming and the story itself is lovely.

5 out of 5 stars The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle.......2000-11-03

"The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle" is another perfectly splendid story by Beatrix Potter. This time the author introduces a human character to the world of animals. A little girl, Lucie, has a bad habit of losing her pocket-handkerchiefs. On this particular day she has lost three, as well as a pinny. She goes searching for them in the hills where she finds a door going straight into the hill. When she opens it she discovers a clean kitchen and a peculiar little person. Her name is Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle and she is a washer-woman. Lucie's missing hankies and pinny are being washed and ironed by her. I love the way Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle's little black nose goes sniffle, sniffle, snuffle, and her eyes go twinkle, twinkle. Also, the way she always answers questions with "if you please'm". The illustrations are nice and children will enjoy Ms. Potter's beautiful narrative and finding out Mrs Tiggy-Winkle's true identity.

          Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars charming and touching; great illustration.......2000-09-04

A great little book, similar in style to McBratney and Jeram's "Guess How Much I Love You", or the Frog and Toad stories. The illustrations by Chris Riddell are fabulous.

5 out of 5 stars Friendship is stronger than Winter.......1999-08-20

Rabbit and Hedgehog are two close friends (one is put in mind of Toot & Puddle or Bert & Ernie) with one not-so-small problem: Hedgehog hibernates the winter through and Rabbit does not.

Rabbit is concerned that Hedgehog will not miss or remember him during the long winter. Hedgehog plainly states that he won't miss Rabbit because he'll be sleeping. While Rabbit says he'll miss his friend, Hedgehog is bothered by the fact that he doesn't know what winter IS-he sleeps through it!

Hedgehog asks Rabbit to "save a bit of winter for me" and writes a note on the bark of a tree to help Rabbit remember. Problems arise when winter hits and Rabbit, who usually eats pink clover and green grass is reduced to eating brown things--including bark off trees with MESSAGES written on them!

Well, fortunately, while Rabbit may be scatterbrained, he remembers what Hedgehog wanted him to save, and manages, with a bit of forest ingenuity, to save some winter for his sleeping friend.

"A Little Bit of Winter" is a testament to friendship. The precise illustrations and depth of expression make the characters feel so very REAL, to children as well as adults. One can simply FEEL Rabbit's sadness and frustration at having to eat brown stuff, dig through mountains of snow AND be lonely on top of everything else. The joy both Hedgehog and Rabbit feel when spring comes and they get to be together again is infectious and radiant.

An excellent book, highly recommended. Even if you DON'T have children to give the book to, buy it and give it to YOURSELF.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful tale about the true sense of friendship.......1998-12-21

This book is a pure miracle ! I've read it in french. (Amazing ! For one time, the french translation is released before the english edition!) I bought the book as a gift for a four-years-old girl but after I read it with her I went back to the bookstore to buy my own copy. The text is simple and speaks to both heart and soul. I had never read such a good and masterful description of friendship. And what a gifted illustrator Chris Riddell is ! Last but surely not least : you don't need to be a child to appreciate the tale, I testify and I swear !

This book takes a one of a kind look at what it means, and what it takes to be a head coach in the college arena of the new millennium.

            Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Extremely insightful to every aspect of the game.......2006-03-20

As I saw in other reviews, the book doesn't always flow within chapters and there are some grammatical errors. However, if you have ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of big-time college basketball programs, this book is a must. The following of each team through their season took a back seat for me. What stood out was how coaches had to stay on top of their game, their players, their team, and their program on a daily basis. After reading this book you will have a much better understanding, and respect, for what coaches go through from year to year. You really get the sense that you are there, in the locker room, and you feel like the coaches are your next door neighbors. I definitely recommend this book to coaches, hoops fans, and sports fans in general.

3 out of 5 stars Really, two books in one.......2004-02-13

I must be getting old...all the guys who were playing basketball when I was in college are now coaches! I was a college classmate of one of the coaches profiled in this book, so from that perspective I found it interesting, but not terribly well-written. This is really two books in one. First, Curtis profiles the "inside stories" of the coaches and teams at Iowa, Illinois, Notre Dame, and UCLA. But then, he drops in all sorts of little essays on the state of the college game today: how recruiting works, how coaches really make all their money, how influential Dick Vitale is, how the coaches network among themselves to recommend each other for jobs. Each of these could have been a decent book; both together is just a little too much. There also were a number of spelling errors and a few factual errors.

3 out of 5 stars great information -- uninspiring tale.......2004-01-02

Some very interesting material told in mundane & uninspiring fashion. Either he had his facts wrong or there was sloppy editting on some occasions. Some of the sidebar explanations of refereeing and recruiting covered ground that has been covered by a variety of authors in much better fashion. We learned about the four coaches, but there was never a real emotional attachment for the most part. College hoops junkies will like it, but as another reviewer mentioned, I would definitely recommend John Feinstein's a "Season Inside", "A March to Madness" and "The Last Amateurs". Perhaps the first for insight into Alford, but I would recommend the last two the most . Especially in "The Last Amateurs" I believe that a reader will gain much more emotional attachment to the players & coaches.

If this book caused a reader to break up with a girlfriend... the girlfriend may be better off!

2 out of 5 stars Promising topic /subjest that fell short of...........2003-05-30

            potential due to poor execution.

This is a great topic to cover but alas John Feinstein has already done this with a "Season Inside", "A March to Madness" and "The Last Amateurs" and done it a lot better.

Curtis never really dug deep into his subjects or explored the "Why" or the "If". He stuck more to the "What" and even then seemed to be off on several facts........P>All in all......a disappointing read.

5 out of 5 stars Really good read.......2003-03-02

This was a really terrific read. The anecdotes about players, coaches, recruiters, officials, and sports reporters are all interesting and some really funny. It's a pretty big book but it reads very fast. The politics of college basketball, from race conflicts, to academics, to the often nasty seduction of recruits, opened my eyes in a big way to these issues that usually get only brief treatment from the media. The coaches that the author followed are pretty stunning characters. I had no idea of the extent of their day-to-day obligations, or their perks. I strongly recommend this book for anybody with even a causual interest in sports. What'll stick with me most for a long time are incredible individual and group moments of pain, and victory, and laugh-out-loud humor. Definitely a good book.

5 out of 5 stars Back to Eden a God Send.......2007-09-23

This book is amazing. It is full of knowledge, to help one take care of the body. This should be the operating manual for the human body.

            4 out of 5 stars Can't think of a title.......2007-04-26

I wanted to think of a clever title but it escapes me. This book has been with me through the following years of age
            16- menstrual cramps
            24- pregnancy and childbirth
            35- obesity and weight loss
49- menopause and the ever present private summers
            55- aging gracefully
There is not an ailment or malady known to man that the Creator does not have a cure for! This is a good herb book albiet a little dated as one person commmented

1 out of 5 stars Awful nutrition advice.......2007-01-31

Ugh. I picked up this book in a thrift store because I'm an herbalist and all-around naturalist, so of course I'd heard of Jethro Kloss and wanted to check out this classic. Before I read anything, I came across the pictures of his grandchildren. Right off, I could tell that these were not the offspring of well-eating people; they have crooked, pinched noses and narrow faces. A great percentage of people have these facial defects, myself included. They (including crooked teeth) are the hallmarks of terrible nutrition by our forebearers. I figured that Mr. Kloss must have been heavily into veganism, or at least vegetarianism. It was no surprise that when I read the book I saw Mr. Kloss' hatred of meat and dairy products. He basically suggests that people just eat vegetables, fruit juice, and grains. He even tells pregnant women to basically avoid all animal products, fish included, and load up on juice, veggies, and grains. I wonder how many problem pregnancies Mr. Kloss contributed to because of this advice. There is NOTHING natural about juice. Even worse, Mr. Kloss was big into soy. Soy is a nutritional disaster. Along with juice, there is absolutely nothing natural about eating unfermented soy. Besides being horrendous in the nutrition department, I feel that his beliefs smack of racism and classism, as in, "Educated and upper-class whites should be smart enough to avoid animal products, but those savages and idiots are just doing themselves in." Nevermind that nowhere on earth has there been an indigenous group of peoples who were voluntarily vegetarian or vegan (even if they were just eating bugs and grubs.) For wonderful information on nutrition, read Weston A. Price's "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration," and/or Sally Fallon's "Nourishing Traditions."

5 out of 5 stars Down to earth truth.......2007-01-15

If you dont have it , get it.
Use your common sense, and regain good health
The other reviews writtten are right on target.

4 out of 5 stars Some concepts are dated, but overall, a good health guide.......2006-02-28

In the book, Mr. Kloss said of all diseases, "God has invented the cure and is waiting for man to discover it." The longer I practice as a pharmacist, the more I realize he was right.

Some of his ideas - especially about cancer, diabetes, and infectious disease - are now known to be erroneous (herbal tea enemas ARE NOT cure-alls!) but it's an excellent guide to herbal medicine, and does mention herbs which should not be used by certain people. It also gives details about things like salt glows and hot fomentations, which probably won't cure anything but may at least make the person feel better.

Promise Kloss Moffett died in 2003, five days before her 100th birthday.

            5 out of 5 stars ..........and Finally.......2007-10-03

....at last I really do think I've found the book I've been looking for & if you're reading this & thinking will "this one" help "me" achieve my aims at getting my life on the move to becoming successful - then I say unequivocally - YES!!, this is the one for you.

I've read hundreds of so-called self-help books both modern & old and Brian Tracy's "Goals" sums up ALL of the books I've ever read on the subject. It's like a hundred books all in one covering everything from Motivation, Confidence, Time Management, Self Belief & Worth & oh yes & how to set realistic & achievable Goals!

The beauty with all of these requisites for success is that we all have these qualities to one degree or another & Brian inspires us by telling us that any one of these attributes is "learnable". So no matter where you find yourself today on what "may appear" to be a long road, you can start straight away.

This ought to be the very last book you buy on the subject, but before you read (& more importantly re-read) it, make sure you have a fresh note-book (preferably A4) & scribe to hand. The book is jam packed with all the essential information to kick you off in the right direction the minute you start reading. If you feel you really must do some more research then there is an extensive bibliography at the back.

The book ends with a summery of the 21 successful tips in setting & achieving these goals. Also there is a summery to be found at the end of each chapter for easy future reference.

Written in a modern, clear, interesting, easy readable style & language. It's broken down into easily digestible chunks in such a way that makes you want to read a little bit more. You never stop learning & it's never too late to start [something new].

Don't be put off or judge the book by the BOLD but plain looking & unattractive cover. It's Brian's message that counts & he very cleverly uses famous quotes from the Greats of the past.

            4 out of 5 stars Setting Goals.......2007-09-15

I give this book a 4 because I feel that it is more for the outside worker than it is for an indepentpent worker. I found a lot that seemed to be for the worker who has a "boss" than me being my own boss. However, I read the book through, then reread it looking more into it. I did come across things that I feel will help as long as followed through. The tasks are reasonable in doing. Does it seem hard to make a list of things to accomplish today? Right there you have set goals and followed through. There is a lot more in there, it will help you go from daily goals to weekly, monthly and yearly goals. I would recommend that purchasing his book "Eat That Frog!", they go hand in hand. Both books set on my desk and get looked at daily, to make sure I am following through and creating better habits of myself, to make better habits for my sales. Goals!, will get you going, teaching how to go get your sales instead of waiting and hoping for them to just come to you.

5 out of 5 stars The Steps to Take.......2007-08-06

I loved his frog book but this is just great too. It is an outline on how to really write goals that you need and want to make changes in your personal and career life. Not too fluffy like some self help books. If you are looking to make changes in your life and need help putting together a map to get where you want to.

            Good luck with everything you.

Excellent book - includes some basic information as well as some great techniques for success. This is the best Brian Tracy book that I've read so far. It actually caused a paradigm shift for me in how I view goals and goal setting. As always, Brian presents the information in a way that unlocks the meaning right before your eyes.
