Book Description
Powerful, thrilling new insights pointing to meaning and how everything began. As Leaves of Grass", and "The Prophet", "Poetical Relationships" is a small book, however, which also traverses a broad range of ideas and experiences. It provides a short reading, for these busy times, which, however, also inspires boundless reflection and discovery. It makes a valuable, inexpensive addition to a personal library.
Interest in seeking a possible theory of everything, or what had been called at times the ultimate truth, has been the subject of numerous recent writings. Presented are unique reflections by an open-minded scientist on twenty subjects including evolution, aesthetics, quantum mechanics, and other intriguing topics using the prism of poetical phraseology to reveal novel perceptions. Philosophy had once been the domain of certain thinkers who often sought answers to metaphysical questions by making use of accurate observation, deduction, and the use of logic. Thus, a new avenue to formal knowledge had become developed, apart from revelation, which laid the basis for the scientific method. However, as science began to describe the world, it was realized that findings from science had major philosophical implications; thus the process has come full circle and increasingly more scientists are writing about the philosophical and metaphysical implications of science.
From being a specialist in science, the author transforms himself to become an observer, much as a passenger on a train, of nature, science, and the cosmos enabling new insights regarding original cause. The author assembles the philosophical and metaphysical observations into a collection of literary impressions and abstractions.
Customer Reviews:
Aesthetics, to quantum mechanics, humanism, entropy, and more........2007-03-07
Enthusiastically recommended reading, "Poetical Relationships" is a unique volume of impressive poetry whose substantial themes touch upon twenty diverse subjects ranging from aesthetics, to quantum mechanics, humanism, entropy, and more. A gifted writer and poet, Robert Tabor is able to express in verse reflective commentary about science, logic, philosophy, and the cosmos. 'Action at a Distance': Action at a distance, as newton's gravity proposed,/Einstein had not liked,/"Invisible Hands' reaching to pull objects to masses and the Earth.//Reductionism, action at a distance seems not support,/Where everything must be together linked by concepts known./The classical much can explain with reductionism as its path./Curved space, the linkages does preserve./The "falling object" to space is fastened,/And space to the other mass is linked.//Science could not the linkages of action at a distance see;/Perhaps hidden they may be,/but, if so, without proofs were accepted not./But the naive poet must ask, what about magnetism and static's cling,/Are there different curved spaces for them too?/Or have they been accounted for by other means?//But contrarily, though quantum mechanics a set of laws too obeys,/However, action at a distance seems allowed./thus, a dialogue ensues.//To some kind of force as the old gravity might we return?/Or does space need to be further yet defined?/Or will a new holism need developed be which the views can unify?/Perhaps another, yet hidden, linkage will clarify.

Book Description
The present volume, which contains miscellaneous English and Latin verse, written throughout his career, shows Smart as he appeared to his contemporaries: a brilliant but wayward scholar, who threw away a life of distinction at Cambridge to engage in the raffish world of the London theaters
and pleasure gardens. By presenting the poems in chronological order, it also reveals the pattern of his evolution from both academic and popular roles into a poet dedicated to Christian service. Over thirty pieces in this volume have not appeared in any previous collection, and several are
reprinted for the first time since the 18th century. Translations are provided for all Latin poems.

Customer Reviews:
Great for parents who want to teach Spanish.......2007-10-14
As a teacher and adviser, I recommend this to all the parents who want their young children to learn Spanish - after listening to this for a week and working through the book work just a bit, the parents always have more confidence to lead their own students through Flip Flop Spanish: Ages 3-5: Level 1 and other workbooks for kids.
Learning a language yourself is the best way to ensure success in your child's endeavors! This is a wonderful basis, especially for the investment. Four stars only, because not everything is as well-explained as I would hope, but that's to be expected in a product that is sort of "crash-course" in methodology. Also good for those who like to jump right in!
Well made product.......2007-09-17
Well made product. Difficulty progresses quickly in the audio discs but can be taken at one's own pace. The read along material is helpful in the continued direction of pronunciation as well as includidng alternative phrases for certain occasions.
Audio disappointing.......2007-08-29
Disclaimer: I didn't actually listen to it, or even open the CDs.
I was on the hunt for a system that I could listen to in the car during my commute. Reviews on this looked good, so I purchased it. Turns out, there's only 1 or 2 audio CDs...most of it is books.
Easy.......2007-08-17
These tapes are very thorough. They are also easy to use and very colorful. They would be great for a child, though I am 20 and find them quite handy. It is a little frustrating at first and you may have to pause the disc to give yourself enough time to say the words and phrases without being cut off. It moves a little quickly. Still a great buy.
Great Package.......2007-08-03
I bought Speak in a Week (Spanish) two week ago and now.... I speak Spanish... Great !
Customer Reviews:
Buy it........2007-10-09
For someone like me who has almost no background in Spanish, I think this is a must buy book. This book is a pictionary that also teaches simple sentences and shows conjugation.
Learning Spanish the Fastest Way.......2007-04-07
This is the first book that anyone than wants to learn Spanish should read.
It is remarkable in it's simplicity, and makes learning Spanish to a
elementary level very quick. It provided the learner a useful vocabulary and
teaches the most useful and important tenses without memorization. after
studying this book, one should be able to maneuver through Spain or Mexico
with a great deal of confidence on being understood. An important follow-up
book would be Margarita Madrigal's "Magic Key to Spanish."
Really excellent! Probably the best there is and good price!.......2007-01-05
I bought this book this past weekend while meandering around a local big name bookstore, while looking at the Spanish language books i was so frustrated because of the high prices on almost every book in print! I stumbled upon this little gem and was quite surprised by its novelty...its definetly from the 60's, kinda old fashioned, very insignifigant looking and super inexpensive BUT it IS a TOTAL gem and im SO glad I bought it.
I lived in Southern California for a long time and ofcourse had to pick up basic conversational Spanish just to get along, its been about 6 yrs since I left that area and ofcourse my Spanish skills went down the drain from lack of use. I have a few other really good Spanish books, but you know, it can be tedious at times working with them because of the long word lists, intense verb conjugations from the get-go or the annoying "tourist" coversations they expect you to memorise. Hence i pretty much put them away and forgot about them for quite a few yrs.
This book is NOT that!
This book does NOT focus on "touristy" phrases or anything like that and there isnt anything very daunting or intense about this book. I think pretty much anyone could use this book and understand whats going on.
Its refreshing how you can do a short lesson, how ever many pages you want to do and not really have to commite to some intense study regime, so its great if your a busy person.
In a nutshell, while it might look simple and insignificant...dont let appearences fool you...this book totally rocks, i'd suggest this book FIRST for someone who wants to refresh their spanish or are a brand new, newbie to Spanish. You wont get frustrated.
The ONLY drawback is you have to know how to pronounce certain Spanish sounds, there is a sound chart and thankfully, Spanish unlike French or English for that matter is pronounced in a pretty straight forward manner...and its pronounced how its written and vise versa so just alittle bit of outside work on your pronounciation might be useful but other than that...i reiterate...this book ROCKS!
A must have for anyone learning Spanish.......2006-11-27
This is by far the best level 1 Spanish book I have every read. Instead of providing you with a bunch of words and verbs to conjugate, it helps you to converse in spanish immediately by providing spanish phrases in context.
The Margarita Madrigal method will have your conjugating verbs without your being aware of it. In addition, the end of the book has all of the Spanish verb tenses and moods which allows you to conjugate thousands of verbs. There is also a pretty good Spanish to English dictionary at the end of the book along with an index that allows you to look up words according to the tense you want. You get all of this for under 10 dollars.
I highly recommend this book as well as Madrigal's Magic Key to Spanish.
Word of Caution.......2006-08-29
This book does not 'spell out' how to say these words. There is no English to Spanish vocabulary. The paper quality is poor. Lastly, this book was written in 1961...although this book was written by a teacher, education has come a long since then...you can probably find a better quality, better written book.

Customer Reviews:
This should be your first purchase when learning Spanish.......2006-01-24
I am a 33 year-old American and I took German in school. Since I live in South Florida I figured that it was time to learn Spanish. I bought several cds and books and also borrowed many of the same from the library.
After using many different products out there, I can honestly say that this inexpensive cd and book combo is the best product for your money.
It does EXACTLY what I was looking for. I have very little time to read a book, and my goal was to begin learning Spanish while I drove to and from work in my car. Unlike many other cds out there, this is great because it is one of the few that does not require the student to have a book with them while they listen to the cd.
It walks you through the basics and soon you will be able to order a beer, know your numbers, letters, tell someone that you have one son, ask someone where is the bathroom, tell someone that you like strawberries, that you do not like dogs, etc.
Once you start off with this cd and book combo you will be well on your way to moving on and using some of the other products out there.
Again, make this your first purchase.
Simplified and fun.......2005-07-07
The Penton Overseas Spanish books are excellent. The books cover only useful material. The pictorial make it less boring to learn. A fun way to learn the language

This product along with the others in the set are very good. The book that accompanies the CD really helps reinforce the words. I would recommend this set of learning tools to anyone who wants to learn spanish.
