Book Description
Along British Columbia's western edge from the Alaska panhandle to Vancouver stretches a vast alpine wilderness that ranks as one of the largest and least known on earth. Hidden in the mists beyond the heads of long, dark inlets, this sea of mountains is so isolated that hundreds of major peaks remain unnamed and much of the territory was unexplored until the closing decades of the twentieth century. Vancouver mountaineer John Baldwin, often teamed with his fellow climber John Clarke, has spent twenty-five years exploring and photographing this measureless wilderness, registering an incredible 250-plus first ascents and pioneering some epic ski traverses in the process.
Together, Baldwin, Clarke and their teams have carried out a program of dicovery that has few parallels in the history of mountaineering, and Mountains of the Coast allows the public to share the high points of their astounding experience for the first time.
Here are accounts of sudden blizzards, rumbling glaciers and month-long ski traverses over crevasse-mined icefields, side by side with peaceful scenes of alpine flowers and unexpected encounters with mountain goats and grizzly bears.
Baldwin describes the careful planning that goes into each expedition, the special freindships that develop among dedicated climbers, and the thrill of being the first human beings ever to set foot on a remote mountain peak.
Most memorable, Mountains of the Coast unveils the severe beauty of these wild places, revealing page after page of unimaginably spectacular landscapes, many of which have never before been recorded on film. Mountains of the Coast is a breathtaking journey into an unknown world that will appeal to mountain climbers, outdoor enthusiasts and armchair explorers alike.

Magnificent Mountain Wilderness.......2002-03-24
This is a visually stunning book covering one of the remotest mountain regions of North America. Approx 150 colour photos depict the massive icefields, glaciers, high mountains and valleys east and west of the Coast Range.
The text gives the reader details of the author's travels through this vast wilderness on foot and skis and describes the difficulties encountered in such a rugged and remote area.
A must for anyone who loves "armchair wilderness travel" or for those who want to see what this magnificent and generally inaccessible region looks like.

Great Book!!.......2001-12-17
This is one of the better training tools you'll ever buy. Roebuck take's you step by step from puppy through the second year. I refer to this book every time I start a new puppy. If you hunt upland birds this book is a must.
Excellent book.......2001-06-27
This is an excellent book by the late Ken Roebuck. I used Ken's advice to train my Springer and I am very pleased with the results. Ken writes the book with the beginner in mind.
The only drawback is that he doesn't give much useful information on how to train for blind retrieves.
A MUST HAVE for anyone training a HUNTING dog.......2000-07-03
I have read many books on dog training, and never before has anyone offered a plan so detailed or as simple to follow as Kenneth Roebuck. His insight into how a dog thinks and how we can use that to our advantage in training is at once ordinary and astounding. Skip all the popular training methods of the moment and use this one. You will never raise a better gun dog.
A great training guide from begining to end........1998-11-22
This book takes you through the selection of and training of a gun dog using the late Kenneth Roebuck's methods. This book outlines the use of both positive and negative reinforcment to produce a quality hunting companion. This is a great resource for the man wanting to train his own dog, and if I could only have one training reference, this would be it.

Indispensable.......2006-11-10
If you are a freelance journalist/writer, this book is a must have. The writing and advice is top-notch.
A must have for your library.
Useful collection of essays for the freelance writer.......2006-05-28
Instead of just setting down a list of dos and don'ts, the ASJA guide presents a series of how-to essays by published authors that include how to work through the different aspects and challenges of freelance writing. This format allows for experience to provide guidance. I like to read about success stories and examples of what worked and what didn't work. I have used it many times to figure out different aspects of our freelance writing business.

If you take the information in this book and study each chapter, it's like going to a high quality professional writers conference. You can learn about a variety of areas of nonfiction writing from veteran much-published writers.
If you can only get one how-to book on nonfiction writing, get this one.
Start Here.......2006-02-25
If you are like me, that is, if you were just starting out as a freelance writer, then this book is a great place to start. I have to admit, that much of the material actually scared me away from freelancing. I love to write, but it sounds like there are too many legal matters, contracts, copyrights, etc. to enjoy the profession. Maybe an agent would help? The book seems to cover almost every angle, things to avoid, ways to succeed, how to get started...
Informative, Thorough and a Must Read for Aspiring Freelancers .......2006-02-23
This book has exceeded my expectations. Usually when purchasing an anthology you get crumbs of information, but rarely enough to actually develop and execute a plan. I'm grateful for this guide! Not only does it break down 26 crucial areas of a freelance business in only 360 pages, it is written by those who've tasted many years of success. The experts don't sugarcoat, or offer false hope ... they are very realistic in their approach. The book also provides countless resources to help one research articles, locate experts and writing markets, make contacts, contracts, submit photos and so much more. After reading this book, I am well on my way to building an at-home business that works!
Book Description
Illus. in full color. "These nonsense verses combine the domestic and the gross, deadpan and slapstick, with a lilting rhythm and satisfying rhyme. The poets are well-known contemporaries including Prelutsky, Silverstein, Kuskin, Lobel, Viorst, and many more. The design is ebullient. Start or end story hour with these verses, and kids will know reading's a pleasure."--(starred) Booklist.
Customer Reviews:
Lovely book but..........2005-06-05
I guess I'd better start by saying I really did like this book and my reservations are largely based on relevance to my kids' in their culture. The poems are very funny, but there are a lot of overtones that are very US American in the selection and that meant that my children (Kiwi kids) didn't enjoy this book as much as some other collections we have. Having said that I don't for a moment regret buying it or think that it contains inappropriate material. It is a collection we will continue to enjoy over the years to come, but I do prefer some of Jack Prelutsky's other poetry selections such as the "20th Century Children's Poetry Treasury" or "The Random House Book of Poetry for Children" which also contain some hilarious poems in their mix.
The best of the best.......2002-04-30
The only thing that may rival a book of poems by the master of children's poetry, Jack Prelutsky, is a collection of humorous poems selected by Jack Prelutsky. Not to give too much away, how can anyone resist a 2-page poem about collecting pancakes, or a limerick to do with dreaming about eating a shoe that turns out to be perfectly true? Not I. Without a doubt, this is a great collection of poems.
Completely inappropriate for children.......2000-12-27
While many of the poems are fine, some are morbid. For example, one talks about a boy swimming through the great lakes and drowning, and another talks about grandpa going down the drain and there now being one grandpa fewer. One talks about a dead father who has been haunting his son for 17 years. This book is completely inappropriate for cihldren.
I love this book.......2000-08-24
This is one of my all-time favorite children's books, and we have hundreds. I have bought at least 10 copies to give as children's gifts. I used this book in a 3rd grade library class to introduce the children to poetry. The poems are all funny and in good taste. A great read-aloud book. Both boys and girls begged to hear more poems and to take out poetry books by Jack Prelutsky.
good, but not written by JP.......2000-01-13
This is a very cute book with lively illustrations, but I was surprised when I received it that it was not written by Jack Prelutsky. The poems were selected by him, and they are enjoyable, but to me don't compare with his wonderful, zany poems that my children always want to hear. So, buyer beware- make sure these books are not "selected" by him or edited by Mr. Prelutsky if you want the real thing.

Great book for teachers or parents reinforcing reading strategies/skills. The stories are highly engaging and educational. They are all mysteries involving the dog and most children enjoy reading these short clips.
