Written Without Real Reason.......2003-02-14
A few years ago I read "The Power of Mantra and the Mystery of Initiation" by the same author. It is a very interesting and useful book, which I can wholeheartedly recommend to anyone and, as a matter of fact, I still follow some advice from that book.
Unlike that one, this book miscalled "From Death to Birth", completely misses the point. Only two pages deal with the subject indicated in the title. Those are pages 126 and 127 which actually say something abut what happens with us when we die. All the rest is one painfully long and boring introduction and one painfully long and boring conclusion, 250 pages saying practically nothing new or interesting or important, consisting mostly of stories from Ramayana, Mahabharata and other Epics.
Some of those stories are misquoted. On page 108 you can read about Kunti that "Altogether she was blessed with five mighty and noble sons ..." But, Kunti was not the mother of five Pandava princes but of three of them, as also of Karna before her marriage. The mother of two youngest Pandava princes was Madri.
There is also a mistake connecting rudra granthi with the navel chakra: "And those who have penetrated rudra granthi (the knot at the navel center) are blessed with the light of the fire of the manipura chakra." says page 211. However, the knot at the navel center is brahma granthi not rudra granthi. Rudra granthi is the knot connected with the ajna chakra (third eye).
This is a book I wanted to read for a long time and I cannot say how disappointed I am. I expected to enjoy reading something like "Hindu book of the dead" but I was exposed to treatise about yamas and niyamas and karmas, which by itself, is not a bad thing, but you can read about these in numerous yoga primers. From this book I expected to deal more with the after-the-body experiences, not to be full of talk for the sake of mere talking. I managed to come to the end only with the help of the narrator (Dr. D.C.Rao) who was, as always, excellent in doing his job.
To summarize, it was a terrible waste of my time. I should have meditated instead, or chanted, or whatever else. Life is too short to spend it on books like this one.
The great drama of life and death explained.......2002-04-30
The term "karma" is almost ubiquitous these days, though it tends to be used in an entirely superficial way. Nevertheless, it seems odd that there is such a paucity of serious works available on the topic of karma, rebirth and reincarnation. Fortunately, this book fills the void most admirably.
While this is a serious book, it is readily accessible to the sincere inquirer. Thankfully, its accessibility is not acquired at price of condescension or superficiality. Best of all, it leaves one with a hunger for further spiritual nourishment.
Beautifully informative, compassionate and illuminating.......2001-07-23
The Good Doctor must have known we were both ready for and needing this book, which not only puts the central mysteries of Eastern philosophy and religion into a context for the Western mind to fully fathom, but makes seem just that much more beautiful and poetic than we are currently able to even imagine. For those of us who can't help but hear Narcississtic baby boomers in mid-life crisis playing jams from the Doors and the Beatles on out of tune guitars and talking about Woodstock whenever you hear the word "Karma" (and therefore would rather not hear anyone try to explain what it is) this book brings you back to the dignity and profundity of what it realy means--not to mention how important it was that the Baby Boomers embraced it when they did for generations after them!
Not only will you have no question as to what the central tenets of Hinduism and Buddhism refer to and build from after reading this, you will have a better understanding of what it is to be fully, truly human than practically most of the Western religious text we have today is capable of rendering, as well as the philosophy--which is ironcially based on much of this! This book sheds a light on life that is so bright it embraces the light of all others and absorbs it into its own, instead of attempting to extinguish it. It will answer more questions than you even knew you had. It will also put much of everything from the spiritual self-help/New Age/psychological movement of today's culture to the quantum physics/cutting edge philosophy movement of Western society today into the overarching context we all have been intuitively desperate for.
This book teaches your soul to dance.

Book Description
Newspaper abstracts are an excellent resource for genealogists and historians. In addition to the abundance of names and relationships, news articles tell us a lot about the customs, lifestyles, and priorities during this fascinating period-not just in Macon, Georgia, but in our county as a whole. This volume includes abstracts of articles gleaned from issues of The Weekly Georgia Telegraph from November 1, 1826 to December 22, 1828. Marriage notices with the names of those involved; death notices with varying amounts of biographical information; plus accounts of accidents, duels and other interesting tidbits of local concern really bring this community to life. Articles on "runaways" offer detailed physical descriptions of the missing slave and the full name of his/her owner. News of national note, and numerous articles from around the nation are included. All names are set in uppercase within the text, and a fullname index is included to facilitate research.

For those who have suffered a miscarriage or stillbirth--or those who have elected to terminate a pregnancy--the experience has all too often been minimized and misunderstood. According to author and psychotherapist Kim Kluger-Bell, pregnancy loss can be described with one word: unspeakable. In this remarkable and moving psychological study, Kluger-Bell examines the "shadow side" of being pregnant--the unspoken grief of losing a pregnancy before birth through miscarriage, abortion, or stillbirth.
Unspeakable Losses includes in-depth stories from would-be parents (including Kluger-Bell herself) discussing such diverse issues as multifetal reductions (more and more common as in vitro fertilization procedures become widespread), the male experience of pregnancy loss, and how a woman can be pro-choice yet still suffer grief over choosing abortion. She includes tools for moving through the grieving process, discussing losses, and helping loved ones who have experienced pregnancy loss. This caring, understanding book may help give voice to those who have previously found it too painful to speak. --Ericka Lutz

Customer Reviews:
Best book on the topic.......2003-09-03
I read this book when it first came out several years ago and I still think it is the best book available on the topic of pregnancy loss because it is so intelligently written and profoundly moving. Its not just a book about loss, its a book about life! I have recently read a couple of negative reviews of this book--which seem to be based solely on the fact that the author includes abortion in several short sections of the book. I was shocked and dismayed to see that someone called the book "insensitive" for including abortion--clearly that reviewer is a very angry person! I hope that no one will be discouraged from reading this book because of that, because the compassion the author brings to both the topics of miscarriage, still birth and abortion is very healing for all.
Must read if you've had a loss!!!.......2003-04-21
This book is broad, covering abortion as well as miscarriage. If you have had a miscarriage and can get past the pain of dealing with the fact that some people intentionally end their pregnancies, this is a great book. It covers how other cultures deal with pregnancy loss and gives you ways to work through your feelings. I have read many books about miscarriage looking for answers, a way to get through what I was feeling. This was the last book that I needed to read, it managed to give me a sense of closure that I never thought I'd find. I got this book from the library and am now buying it to have around, for the days when I need a lift.
An insensitive approach.......2002-09-08
My son was stillborn at 26 weeks, and this was one of the books I looked at in the aftermath. I had been too upset to notice the word "abortion" in the title, so it wasn't until I was paging through the book -- and reading about a woman who chose to abort her child -- that it hit me. The author was actually treating what happened to me -- my very much wanted child died due to a cord accident -- with those women who choose to abort their children. I do think that a book dealing with the emotional aftermath of abortion would be a good topic to explore, and it might be very helpful to those women how have had abortions. But I view the death of my child as an unbearable and tragic loss, and to treat my loss the same as an abortion is not only tacky, its cruel.
Don't need anymore therapy.......2000-11-04
The most helpful and healing part of this book was when the author shared her own experiences of how she came to peace with her own infertility and losses. There was too much about how pregnancy loss shed light on the unresolved childhood issues of her patients. LONG before I ever tried to get pregnant, I did my time in therapy (years of it) where I uncovered my childhood hurts and forgave my parents, etc etc etc. Yes infertility pushes some buttons about being a teenager for me for sure, but what I want the most right now are words to help me deal with the present pain of the losses from infertility and miscarriage. The author's personal experience on the last 2 pages was worth getting the book for those of us who don't need anymore therapy.
Comforting, Insightful..........2000-10-12
I found this book to be a great help to me during the months following my miscarriage. Its focus is broad, but I found that helpful because it made me feel less alone. My husband read the section on men and found it very moving. It is not a how-to book so much as it is a book that touches your soul.

Book Description
In this rich and deeply personal account of life in the highlands of Nepal, Geoff Childs chronicles the daily existence of a range of people, from venerated lamas to humble householders. Offering insights into the complex dynamics of the ethnically Tibetan enclave of Nubri, Childs provides a vivid and compelling portrait of the ebb and flow of life and death, of communal harmony and discord, and of personal conflicts and social resolutions. Part ethnography, part travelogue, and part biography, Tibetan Diary is a one-of-a-kind book that conveys the tangled intricacies of a Tibetan society.
Childs's immensely readable and informative narrative incorporates contemporary observations as well as vignettes culled from first-person testaments including oral histories and autobiographies. Examining the tensions between cultural ideals and individual aspirations, he explores certain junctures in the course of life: how the desire to attain religious knowledge or to secure a caretaker in old age contrasts with social expectations and familial obligation, for example. The result is a vivid and unparalleled view of the quest for both spiritual meaning and mundane survival that typifies life in an unpredictable Himalayan environment.

Book Description
No one knows the devastation and heartache of losing a baby more than a father or mother. Grieving parents often do not know where to turn and what to do with their grief in the aftermath of a pregnancy loss. In "Remembering Our Angels," Hannah Stone has collected essays and stories from pregnancy loss awareness activists, doctors, grief counselors and grieving parents in the hope of offering a resource to parents in mourning.
Customer Reviews:
A must read!.......2007-08-03
Both [of Hannah Stone's] books were beautifully written and I felt that Hannah Stone had progressed after "Forever our Angels," to finding a much better way of writing about each stage of pregnancy loss; grief and the healing process with her second book "Remembering our Angels." Both books are honest and simply written and will have a big impact upon the reader from whatever walk of life.
"Forever our Angels" gives the reader a chance to read of others' experience of pregnancy loss, showing just how common it is and letting us know we are not alone. It is well written and easy to take your time over. "Remembering our Angels" is written in much more depth and I think that this would be much more useful for healing and managing grief. I would recommend this book of the two purely because it covers so much unspoken ground for every aspect of pregnancy loss.
Both books are very touching and the way they are set out makes them very easy to read and understand. Both have introductions from medical staff - one doctor in "Forever our Angels" to many more in "Remembering our Angels." I enjoyed reading the views of the professionals in the first chapter and felt comforted that it is now realised that validating the loss of all babies at whatever stage in pregnancy they are lost, is so important in the healing process.
"Remembering our Angels" felt like more of a journey for me; going through each stage of pregnancy loss and reading of how others coped with the experience and the grief. I felt that the point of this book is that they are still having to cope often without adequate support which is needed so much after losing a baby in pregnancy.
There are many good ideas of how to cope after pregnancy loss and many have had very positive experiences from being part of a group or organisation, both personally and in helping others. Both books give the message that this should not be a silent grief. As a volunteer for The Miscarriage Association, I found both extremely useful. They motivated me to appreciate that support for men, women and families experiencing this hidden grief was paramount, helping me to help them.
I feel that the author was very brave to touch on a subject so hidden and ignored in so many ways and I do think that many others will gain strength by reading the stories of loss and survival. It is important to understand that pregnancy loss is a part of our lives and to grow from it.

A Guide For Fathers: When A Baby Dies

Book Description
On August 10, 2000, David and Kim Fleming lost their son, Noah, during childbirth. After his funeral, a rainbow appeared in the sky over the Flemings' home in North Carolina. The family latched onto that symbol of hope and made it the driving force for their recovery. A year and ten days later, their daughter Ally Hope was born. This book, written in the unique narrative style Fleming crafted during his ten years at ESPN and Sports Illustrated, is a father's memoir of the emotional journey from the death of his son to the birth of his daughter. It's real and raw, but above allredemptive.
Although it opens with the harrowing tale of losing a child, the book is more about hope than death, more about what was learned than what was lost. For other grieving parents, and fathers in particular, this book will show that, while the death of a child will change your life forever, it doesn't have to ruin it. As it unfolds, Noah's Rainbow also becomes something of a love story, recounting the way the Flemings worked through this tragedy as a team, knowing that how they responded to Noah's death would be their son's only legacy. This book details exactly how they managed to do it: how they survived and grieved for their son, what they learned about themselves, their families, and the world at large, the setbacks and the blessings, the daily gifts of hope, the restoration of their faith, the perpetuation of Noah's spirit, and, ultimately, the peace and strength that sustained them as they prepared for the birth of their second child.
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful. .......2006-09-30
My husband and I lost our son, our first and only, at 40 weeks to a cord accident. I stumbled upon this book and read it from cover to cover in one sitting. It was so similar to the journey we are currently on, sometimes I marvled atthe words on the page. THis was our story. There wasn't a page I read where the tears, understanding, love, and heartache ceases to flow.
Thank you, Mr Fleming, for writing a book from a father's point of view. It helped me understand my husband's grief and gave me a new understanding of the path we are now on.
Wonderful book - highly recommend for anyone who has lost a child or knows someone who has.......2006-06-13
When I heard about this book, I knew I wanted to read it. It's been over a year since my niece was stillborn, and this book has made me laugh and cry. When I'm done, I'm sharing it with my sister.
I'd highly recommend it to anyone who has lost a child, or as a gift for anyone who has. It is an uplifting, realistic account.
A compelling journey of faith and fatherhood.......2006-01-25
Even as an avid reader, it has been a long time since I picked up a book that I simply couldn't put down until I finished it. Noah's Rainbow was one of these rare books. David Fleming writes with such raw honesty and emotion as to make his journey of faith and fatherhood captivating to any reader. This book is an amazing testimony of how one child's life changed a countless number of lives. The story of the Fleming family's journey through Noah's birth and death is told with skill and sincerity.
The book is a remarkable portrait of hope that will resonate with every reader. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a story of how to find the rainbow through the rain.

Edgar Cayce Was A Great Man.......2001-02-06
One of Edgar Cayce's greatest gifts to humanity was his unraveling of the bible stories. (Edgar Cayce's own life story is itself fascinating.) Anyone who wants to really understand the bible and human existence itself would want to read this book. But this type of information is not for the skeptical. It requires faith and an open mind. This book contains information which could only be obtained psychically. For example there would be no way to know that Eve and Mary were the same soul entity just by studying historical documents. This book indicates how intelligent life first starting appearing on and affecting the earth going back hundreds of thousands of years. Not surprisingly the selfish force manifested itself almost immediately with horrible consequences. Explanations are given for the legends of mythology and other myths. Quite a bit is explained about Moses and the many strange events surrounding the Exodus and wanderings of the Israelites. Moses was a very passionate person who killed an Egytpian that had messed around with his sister apparently in some disrespectful way. This is an interesting example of how Cayce's version of the event differs from the biblical version. Obviously Moses was enraged by this event and the general injustice being perpetrated against the Israelites by the Egyptians at that time. To say Moses was a mysterious person would be a gross understatement. He was a god like creature. The book doesn't state this but I would suspect that maybe Moses and Abraham were the same soul entity in different forms. Both spoke directly to God in some way. But it was Moses who dramatically demonstrated an intimate knowledge of God's powers. For example when the Khoras rebelled Moses indicated they would fall into the earth as the result of some type of earthquake. And they did ! But Moses had his problems and made his mistakes which is consistent with the idea of the soul learning during the earthly existence. Towards the end of the book there is an indication that Satan and the arch angel Michael somehow argued over or about the physical dead body of Moses. I'm not sure what that means but I think it indicates Moses had very pronounced characteristics for both good and evil. Both of these forces influenced Moses as I suspect they do for most people. Cayce indicated that Moses working with Joshua wrote at least some of the book of Genesis as well as other parts of the old testament while in a state of deep meditation.
