Book Description
The third of US SAILING's popular Keelboat Series, Bareboat Cruising covers the skills and terminology required to plan and execute a successful bareboat charter. A bareboat charter provides you with the opportunity to sail a boat on your own, and offers the thrill of using your sailing skills, exploring new or favorite waters and spending time with family and friends. Bareboat Cruising explains what you need to make your charter a memorable success: planning and provisioning, systems, motorsailing, weather, anchoring, navigation, and safety. Used by sailing schools around the country, Bareboat Cruising is published by the national authority for sailing in the U.S.

At some point in our lives, we all wish life had come with an instruction manual; a little something to help us navigate the labyrinth of this complex world with a touch of grace and dignity. Is it so much to ask? Luckily for us, Kirsten M. Lagatree has risen to the challenge. Checklists for Life offers 104 lists that can help you with all those nagging little uncertainties, from organizing your closet to choosing a lawyer. "Show me a successful person," asserts Lagatree, "and I'll show you a list-maker.... Lists ensure that the job gets done correctly and completely--and with the added finesse that springs from an uncluttered mind."
Categorized into personal safety, getting organized, stocking up, home maintenance, housework, flowers and plants, social life, correspondence, death, children, moving, travel, health, the law, your money, professional life, your computer, and your car, many of the lists in this book consist, as she points out, of commonsense advice. Others, though, are less obvious. For instance, her advice on extras to pack when you go abroad (electricity converters, adapters, pre-addressed envelopes and Benadryl, just to name a few) and choosing realtors (Do they insist on a buyer/broker contract? Do they use a computer to help find homes?) are clearly the product of experience. While all the lists are highly helpful--the checklist for organizing your workspace alone is worth the price of the book--the best seem to be those for less common events, such as buying and moving to a new home or preparing for court. Lagatree has clearly done her research on these topics and her advice will save you time, money, and a great deal of stress. --Laszlo Simonyi

Informative.......2007-06-28
For anyone who is young or inexperienced at everyday life to dos, this book can guide the way! I found it to be extremely informative. It helped me to get my life in order.
put this book in a drawer.......2006-11-04
keep this book. read it a little at a time. some good thoughts but too much to consume in one reading. Wished that I had gotten it from the library (with extensions) than having bought it. Oh, well, I love Amazon.
I RETURNED this book.......2005-10-28
This book is terrible. The lists are disappointingly incomplete and inconsequential. For example:
A list on tipping includes tips for restroom attendants, but it omits tips for valet parking. In my life, I have used valet parking significantly more often than a restroom attendant.
A list of common foreign phrases omits pronunciations. How useful is that? Knowing the spelling of a phrase does one no good during conversation should the pronunciation of a phrase be very different from its spelling.
Basically, if one had been raised by kindly wolves in the forest, and recently dropped into modern society, this book might be marginally useful. But anyone with a modicum of planning or forethought would have outgrown this trite little waste of words and paper by age 10.
I'm a believer.......2005-08-12
Count me as someone who longs to be efficient and organized, but who hasn't quite got the hang of it. Along came Kirsten Lagatree with roadmaps for dozens of real life events, and now, even though I'm not necessarily more organized, I am more prepared to deal with travel needs, house issues and even disasters. Frankly, I hope I never have to deal with much of what she covers in this book, but I'm thrilled that she has taken the time to share this info with us.
This book will go a long way towards helping you pull things together.
Checklists.......2005-08-02
This is a good list; not as many apply to me as I expected, but it is a start.

Offers very much Needed Simplicity in a Complicated World.......2007-09-17
Joyce teaches us to laugh at ourselves; she teaches us that it's ok to make mistakes as long as we recognize them and use them to mature our spiritual walk. I love preachers that come down to our level, instead of painting a "higher-than-thou" mentality with impossible standards for us to live up to. My dad once told me that a baby chick starts out with no muscle tone in it's neck. If someone simply cut the egg shell away from the chick and didn't allow it to peck it's way out, it would die. It is in the labor of breaking out of it's shell, that it finds strength.

great book.......2007-09-10
Good advice, given like a friend talking frankly with you. Joyce states it like it is, no pie in the sky perfectionism, no Christianeeze cliches.
She is right on the mark with the advice, references and interpretations. Uses personal experiences to illustrate situations. Helpful book.
You Need To Own This Book!.......2007-07-27
I read the reviews here and decided to get the book from the library. Well I have finished this book and I must say that the author has met me at the very place I am in my life right now. Chapter ll Joy in God's Waiting Room continues to speak to my spirit. Joyce Meyer speaks on so many areas and each one has touched me and showed me things that I did not realize. I thought that Joy was something that came over you or as a result of circumstances but it is not. Joy is a choice and something that God has instilled in each one of us. J.Meyer gives examples of this and she backs up what she says in scripture. If you find that your patience is being challenged (God does this from time to time when He is preparing us for the next level (James 1:2-8) If your attitude is not Godly in your waiting and you feel that your joy is just not there...then you need to do as I did...YOU NEED TO OWN THIS BOOK! Just as God has blessed me to become a licensed RN I know and needed to be reminded that as I am waiting and believing God to open doors for me I have the victory because I am a child of God. I am going to re-read this book and now I can highlight and refer back to this book for continual growth in the area of patience and truly trusting God and knowing that He has everything under control. God Bless You!!!
JOY FOUND AND RESTORED.......2007-07-26
I love this book!!! This is definetley a wonderful read for those looking to enjoy life to the fullest. It has really helped me restore my joy and find new joy. Thank you Joyce Meyer for writing this wonderful book. Alot of the things she went through and the way she lived her life full of seriousness and no time for play is exactly how I was. I can say now that I'm on the road to living my life to fullest of what Christ said that I should live.
Received extremely fast!.......2006-07-31

at last - a guidebook for real folk!.......2003-11-03
I came upon this book in a bookstore one afternoon and picked it up intending to browse through it there and leave it behind. I bought it! It has loads of ideas for people like me - a Gen Xer who is NOT an investment banker. It is very specific about the places to go in NY that are free or nearly so and that are of interest to somebody like me - bars, restaurants, museums, parks etc etc. I know the city pretty well but this great little book has fresh ideas and is worth owning.
A welcome and thoroughly "user friendly" resource.......2003-10-10
How To Live Big In Manhattan Without Going Broke is a very handy and practical guide for living well in New York City on a modest budget for those of limited financial means. Invaluable tips concerning the real estate (including a survey of New York neighborhoods); locations that give free food or which offer cheap eats; clubs that admit patrons for free; low-cost/no-cost activities and spectator sports; affordable shopping locations; and a great deal more are packed into the pages of this excellent and highly advisory to living well and staying entertained in one of the most popular sections of "The Big Apple". A welcome and thoroughly "user friendly" resource for native city dwellers, college students, new arrivals, and business/vacationing visitors, How To Live Big In Manhattan Without Going Broke would serve as an excellent template for similar resource guides for other American cities.

Some good info for Brits, but few others.......2006-03-17
My experience as an American expat moving/living/working in Greece for 10 years motivated me to buy this book in hopes of learning something new. I didn't.
While Mr. Reynolds knows Greece from experience and knowledge of the language, some information is outdated and aimed primarily and specifically toward people from the UK. This book offers a brief overview/introduction that absolute newcomers might find useful, but when tackling employment, retirement, purchasing a home and visa/work permit issues, it will offer you nothing. There are also no website addresses.
The EU has several new members, which means competition is at an all-time high for employment, and immigration laws have been tightened under the new government. Regulations are changing all of the time, but EU citizens such as Mr. Reynolds are not affected by this.
It is also worth noting that this book was written from a man's point of view, and life and work for a woman or a family in Greece are quite different. In short, there is some good information for Brits but much less for the rest of the world.
Some 99 percent of nationalities will still be in the dark after purchasing this 'updated' version, which will unfortunately not help much in real life.
