This field guide is well organized with beautiful photos. Each butterfly listed has a key for recognition, variations, life history as well as habitat range and the time of year you are likely to see this butterfly on the wing. A particularly nice feature is is the list of names for each as butterflies often have akas (also known as.)Dr. Pyles broad knowledge of nature allows him to include additional information about the history of butterfly study. This book will supplant other field guides whose scope intends to include the entire continent. The beautiful durable cover will look good on your desk and will function well in your field pack.
The tremendous amount of data collected in these pages reflect a dedication to the study of butterflies that is inspiring to the amateur and professional naturalist.

Good book of common species. A Few photo's blurry and information on all species not consistent. Such as, not all species have a photo of the catapillar stage nor does it indicate at what time of year each species is most common. Not a complete guide, but a guide of 100 of the common species of the PNW.

3 out of 5 stars I've seen many of stadiums described in this book.......2006-12-13

Overall I've give this book a fair rating.

I've seen most of the most famous and biggest college football stadiums. In about 85% of them I've been able to walk out to the fifty yard line mid field and look around at the stadium. Stadiums are usually open nearly every day of the year. Probably the nicest and most interesting that I've seen are Notre Dame Stadium & the Rose Bowl. I was surprised at how many stadiums that one wouldn't suspect being the nicest or greatest were included (Army, Navy, Air Force) in this book, while Rice's & Boston College's were not and Michigan State's was one of those allowed only a one page review. The book also omits Baylor's and Texas Tech's stadiums. In my mine all football stadiums are bland compared to baseball parks.

There is a small section which includes stadiums no longer around: Syracuse, Minnesota (seen that one), and a few others.

I did enjoy the history of the expansion of the stadiums.

This book is the best. I got the chills just reading it. I felt like i was in Bryant Denny Stadium or Michie Stadium and I felt like I was in the locker room at the Cotton Bowl. this book is the best.

This is the most slanderous, ridiculous book I have ever seen. DO NOT BUY, unless you want to be ripped off. Or unless you're from West Lafayette, in that case, buy it because it's the only time you'll see your stadium get any pub. - Jeff

        3 out of 5 stars Good for a start.......2007-08-09

Friedrichsen's book is good to jump start ideas about having an interesting, frugal wedding. The best parts of her book are the profiles done of various couples, how they managed their small wedding, and how they broke down the budget. Especially well done are ideas that the couples used to save money.

The book may not be good for in depth wedding planning, but perhaps no book is good for that. We have turned to Wedding Planning for Dummies, among others, to help us with the details of ceremonies, contracts, etc.

If you're interested in a good introduction to frugal weddings, this is a good place to start.

I loved this book! I purchased several wedding planning books; this one is hands down the best of the bunch! Tons of resources, tons of ideas. The real-life weddings shared in the book (complete with their budgets) was particularly helpful. Tons of resources in the back of the book too, complete with website addresses. I highly recommend this if you're planning a wedding!

I brought this book based off of the reviews. I am planning a wedding and trying to keep it small. I thought that this book gave excellent resources and i thought the couples stories also gave great ideas. The breakdown of the expenses for each couples wedding also helped.

Tonight a parade marched through Hattie's house.
          1. was Lumpy, who had been white when he was new
          2. was Dinah, who needed a little help standing up.
          3. was Tom, who used to sing "Yankee Doodle" until something inside him went snap!

So goes Hattie's bedtime parade, counting up to ten of her closest stuffed-animal friends and letting us know what makes each one special. But after the parade is over and Mommy and Daddy put the toys away, Hattie has ten very special reasons why her friends should be tucked into bed with her. Alice Schertle's sweetly humorous text is beautifully paired with Ted Rand's warm illustrations in this endearing bedtime counting book.

This book is a touching, sweet story that every mother should read to her child. Hattie is a little girl with many stuffed animals, and all of them need to fit into her bed. The book is a counting book, that counts through all ten of the animals. Sometimes educational books can be tiring... However, it is imaginative and funny... between bears that chew cutains and closets filled with chickens, both author and illustrator should be very proud of their work. My only wish is that it could be longer!

This series is FANTASTIC! I got the first book but I wasn'tquite sure I would like it. I was pleasantly surprised!! This is agreat series with some brand new character development and some unique plots. My only criticism of the series would be the conclusion of this book, The ending seemed to be suddenly thrust in to "get the book done." But don't let that deter you from buying this one--they're all GREAT! (Although "Swept Away" is best.)

A large format perfect-bound paperback book, extremely well illustrated with interesting photographs. This unique book is part memoir, part anecdotal raconteurism and part philosophy gleaned from Denny Miller's fascinating life in show business and athletics. Miller starred as Tarzan the Ape-man, and has had outstanding roles in many other films. Other featured appearances were in Gilligan's Island, I Dream of Jeannie, MASH, Dallas, Lonesome Dove, Wagon Train and numerous other western films. All this and much, much more are superbly told in this fun-filled, informative and well-written book. A featured bonus is Coach John Wooden' "Pyramid of Success" fold-out chart within the book. Denny Miller is currently the Gorton's (Fisherman) spokesman. Truly an interesting and entertaining book! 1st edition.

          Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I Remember Who Denny Miller Is!.......2005-10-07

I had the good fortune of running into Denny "Scott" Miller, and his lovely, supportive wife Nancy, on Sunday, September 18th, at the Weatherford Hotel in Flagstaff, Arizona. It was a day full of activities in Flagstaff, and Denny was doing a book signing in the lobby. What a nice, interesting guy he is, and what an interesting book he's written!

Who, you may ask, is Denny Miller? He will cheerfully acknowledge that you may not remember him. In fact, the title of his new book is, "Didn't You Used To Be What's His Name?" But I had no trouble remembering who he is. First of all, as an MGM contract player, back when MGM was hitting the skids as a movie studio, he starred in the 2nd worst Tarzan movie ever filmed, 1959's "Tarzan, the Ape Man" (it was the first worst, until Bo Derek came along with her version of the story, and nudged it out of worst place!). This epic used stock footage from 1950's "King Solomon's Mines", as well as black and white footage from the Johnny Weissmuller original, tinted, to make it fit in.
But Denny Miller himself is an appealing personality. I'm glad to have this book, both as a Tarzan fan, and as a fan of his. Miller is a great-looking guy with a winning smile, and an engaging personality. Over the years, he's redeemed himself in a series of movie and TV roles, not the least of which was as one of the leads in the series, "Wagon Train". In that series, he called himself "Scott" Miller, in case "Denny" doesn't resonate with "Wagon Train" fans.

This book is a rollicking romp through his life, his Hollywood years, and his more recent work as the grizzled Groton seafood skipper (and he's perfect as that character!). It is abundantly illustrated. He has worked with an astonishing number of the biggest names that show business has to offer, and there are revealing shots of many of them. "Wagon Train" had a policy of featuring a different guest star each week. That, and his subsequent movie and TV commercial jobs paired him with many stars, from Lucille Ball, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Katharine Hepburn, to Peter Sellers, Barbara Stanwyck and Frank Sinatra. His dish is delicious. For the most part, he's admiring and generous. But a few big names, like Bette Davis and Charles Bronson, don't come off too well.

When I think of the roles he might have played! He'd have made a great Superman, or Flash Gordon. And he'd have had the acting chops to bring them off! Miller is a loyal, sharing friend. He acknowledges and pays tribute to many who have influenced him, and helped him along the way. In spite of all the gunfights, barroom brawls, misfired special effects and dead lions and rhinos in his movie wake, he comes across as an easygoing guy with a great sense of humor, who loves having a good time with friends and family. On top of all this, Miller has packed into his pages a lot of wisdom. He has many
important things to say about life, health and physical fitness. It's the teacher in him I guess (another of his jobs). You'll find a lot of hints about the benefits of happiness:
humor, and good health - both physical and mental. I hope he writes more.

Denny Miller the man emerges from the pages of this book. A man of thought on many subjects. A likeable, generous guy who we'd like to relax with, and listen to his stories. 5 out of 5 stars Still a Role Model.......2004-08-09

Denny Miller has had the distinction of playing both Tarzan and Superman, a feat no other actor has matched, though he treats his appearances as the legendary heroes with self-deprecating humor. Indeed, humor is the mainstay of his biography, a good-natured reflection on a long career in movies, TV and commercials with anecdotes about the performers he's worked with along the way, including Katharine Hepburn, Bette Davis, Peter Sellers, Jack Lord and many, many others. There are also reflections on his UCLA basketball career (under legendary coach John Wooden), his time as an infantryman in Germany, and - most surprising of all - his bouts with clinical depression. And, as one might expect from a man who is still in great shape at age 70, there's some solid physical fitness advice. Miller attributes his career more to luck than talent, and seems very grateful to have the life that it's afforded him - a welcome change from the usual gossipy egocentric star bio. With his positive outlook on life and easy good humor, he remains a role model.

5 out of 5 stars Superbly illustrated, organized, and presented autobiography.......2004-08-07

Didn't You Used To Be What's His Name? is the superbly illustrated, organized, and presented autobiography of Denny Miller -- a man who was a professional actor playing such roles as Tarzan and King Arthur, has portrayed cowboys, surfers, and for fourteen years was the product spokesman for Gorton's Fisherman. Black-and-white photographs, fascinating tales of showbiz, and the sometimes humorous, sometimes touching, always dedicated exploits of a true professional actor makes for an engaging and intrinsically interesting Hollywood life story.

Someone has unleashed an ancient evil bent on destroying Cassidy Christopher by eradicating the women he loves, one by one. . .

          Customer Reviews:

          4 out of 5 stars Chilling.......2002-07-02

One year ago in Plover, Wisconsin, Maddie Christopher had been attacked by a serial killer known as the "Sweet Dreams Killer". People believed his name to be Natas Sivel. He killed mainly women. His victims' bodies were crushed, the heart drained of blood, and not a single outside wound. He almost had Maddie. But her father, Cassidy, saved her in time. While Natas was too weak from the battle, the police imprisoned him...away from the other prisoners. Now, one year later, the killer escaped!

Natas Sivel was really a demon. He was kept buried, asleep, under an oak tree called The Protector, in a music box. But someone hated Cassidy Christopher enough to dig it up and release the demon held within. The demon's sole purpose was to destroy Cassidy, the property owner, by destroying the women he loved.

Maddie and Cassidy had a psychic connection. Cassidy's friend, Officer Kevin Sheridan (who had been first on the scene with Maddie a year ago) called it "hocus pocus stuff". The only other person with a connection to the Christophers was Maddie's best friend, Robyn Warren. When the demon went after Maddie again, she called Robyn. Robyn got Cassidy to go to his daughter while she jumped on a plane and flew toward them.

The demon saw the attraction between Robyn and Cassidy. He saw them fall in love. So the demon wanted Robyn, as well as, Maddie. Only their love could save them and put the demon back inside the music box, to sleep.

**** WOW! Here is a dark romance book. If not for the romance, I'd label it Horror! It sent chills up my spine the entire time! Fantastic reading! ****

          5 out of 5 stars Superb!.......2001-04-18

"Superb! Karen Wiesner's SWEET DREAMS is a roller coaster ride of breath-catching romance and plunging terror. The book kept me up until dawn and not just because it was an excellent read, but because I was too frightened to close my eyes! This paranormal is both haunting and memorable. Definitely a must read!" -Angelica Hart author of THE GATHERING

5 out of 5 stars Shades of THE WITCHING HOUR!.......2001-04-18

"The evil presence in Sweet Dreams is tangible from page one. The main characters are instantly sympathetic, and we don't need to get inside the head of the bad guy to "get" his motivation. Shades of The Witching Hour--seduction and terror--kept me up for hours so I could get to the end. Karen Wiesner structures an intricately woven tale that leaves one panting for more." -author Natalie Damschroder

          5 out of 5 stars Compelling!.......2001-04-18

"What a wonderfully ironic title for a wonderfully put together book. The characters won me over right away. Their pain and their longing is so real, their bravery is almost heartbreaking. I appreciated the way [they were layered]with so many levels of devotion and fear to make them intensely human. The plot is compelling as well. As the demon circles in on Cass and Robyn, the suspense builds until it's nearly unbearable, then explodes into a climax that had me gripping the edge of the laptop and hitting the 'next' key so fast I nearly broke it. I just couldn't wait an extra second to find out how it would work out. And I wasn't disappointed. The ending is entirely satisfying." -Karen McCullough, author of PRISM and Rising Star Award-Winning Fantasy, The Rainbow Bridge,

          5 out of 5 stars Highly recommended!.......2001-04-18

"SWEET DREAMS is a tale brimming with thrills, chills, suspense and love. Cass is a man who cares deeply about those around him and will do anything to keep them safe. Robyn is loyal and wants nothing more than to help her friend and her true love. The two work well together against the forces of evil threatening their existence. SWEET DREAMS is extremely well written. The characters are likeable right from the start and come across as very real. The plot was new and refreshing to me and the demon very believable. "SWEET DREAMS is an exciting thrill ride that will keep you up to the wee hours. I highly recommend SWEET DREAMS for everyone who loves non-stop action!" -Carol Durfee for Romance Reviews Today http://www.romrevtoday.com

          Book Description

Do our loved ones who have died still care about us? Is God concerned that we are grieving?

Vera P. Glenn has put together a collection of true stories from people who have been dealing with the death of someone they care about. In His mercy, God permitted brief but powerful communications between the natural and spiritual worlds -- confirmations that life and love continue after death. We are always being thought about and loved from the spiritual realm, and our Heavenly Father constantly desires to comfort us. Sometimes that comfort takes the form of dreams or of other glimpses into the life beyond.

You will be amazed at the varity of comforting messages here described. For each story, Vera has chosen one or more quotations from the writings of Emanuel Swedenborg, which speak about elements of the spiritual world that are demonstrated in the dreams or experiences.

"Many people I have known have had similarly simple, yet profound and beautiful affirmations that there is a heaven and that people do become angels." Rev. Jeremy Simons

                Book Description

Examines Professional Development Schools, or "teaching schools," and the myriad complex issues, from policy to personnel, that surround their operation.

This book discusses a ten-year process of teacher education reform at a major public research university (The Ohio State University) and the challenges that ensued. The thirteen Professional Development Schools (PDSs) described are diverse, yet they share a focus on school/university collaboration, reform in teacher education, professional developments, and inquiry. The authors speak frankly about their history, outcomes, and hopes for the future. The message is that school/university collaboration is a potentially rich approach to reform, yet fraught with challenges, demands, and an uncertain future.
