Yet another insight into wildlife photography........2007-05-12
Whenever I am not diving, writing, researching or whatever I am usually found trying to perfect my natural history photography techniques. I was having no success at all until, a few years ago, I was given a copy of one of this author's earlier books as a present. I was immediately inspired by the content and within 2 years I had a full 5 page spread of my pictures of a wild Barn Owl in flight, reproduced in a leading British magazine about birds.
It is as though this author has produced this book containing another selection of natural history photographs just to show me that I have hardly begun to master the techniques involved. There are Harvest Mice, flowers, snakes, birds, plants and much more - but only Dalton could photograph a pile of leaves in autumn in such a way as to show the aspiring natural history photographer simply how it should be done.
Stephen Dalton's books are ground-breaking in the way they reveal the results of his very special techniques. Without such books, nobody's personal skills with a camera would move on to bigger and better things and very few readers would be given the opportunity of appreciating wildlife - as it really is in the wild.
Once again we have a collection of photographs from which even the most accomplished natural history photographer will learn something.

Concentration on How to Shoot and Hit.......2007-05-24
This is one of the best books on clay shooting as it covers all the various games along with how to deal with the various scenarios. And does so for left and right handers. Has been really, really helpful. Not a lot on guns and accessories, but enough. Does have a good, straight-forward explaination as to how to "fit" a shotgun.
Missed the mark..........2004-05-16
I found this book too advanced for a beginner (like me) and not advanced enough for someone who is at an intermediate or advanced level (my son). For example, the author talks about the parts of the gun, but then neglects to have a diagram of what those parts are. At the same time, his advice is very, very basic, so someone who already knew what they were doing may not get much out of this book. There is always a tip or two that anyone can pick up from reading a book, but I think there are books better suited for either the beginner or a more advanced trap shooter. This one isn't really right for either, in my opinion.

This book provides a good overview of the sport. The contents however is dated, and there is little of instructional value. Overall this can only be considered a primer for further reading.

There was very little that I found in this book that I didn't find in other resources on the subject. It's way overpriced for what it delivers.
Milady's Cosmetic Ingredients Dictionary.......2007-06-27
In addition to listing many standard ingredients, this book also lists botanicals which are listed by their English name with other common names listed right after. And they are cross-referenced. A very good brief review of skin physiology, function, components, structures and layers along with product penetration and testing and skin types and conditions enhance the book. Great for newbies or experienced skin care professionals.

The beauty business is wonderful, really it is. There are only a very few players that are truely dishonest when it comes to ingredients, for instance, "renaming" common ingredients. This book will help everyone keep it straight. As a beauty and lifestyle reporter, I keep it on my desk.

The first few chapters I would call "Skin physiology for dummies", the science is much simplified, so don't expect to learn much here. However, the glossary of cosmetic ingredients is very decent, I would definatelly buy this book as a great reference.

Thanks to this book, we are able to keep abreast of the latest information in cosmetic ingredients. It's too bad people use misinformation to convince their friends that cosmetics somehow end up in the bloodstream. They aren't drugs and shouldn't be treated as such. Please read this book and stop being paranoid.

I found this book to be very informative if you need to know what ingredients are used in your cosmetics, so many times we just put things on our skin and scalp and we have no idea of what is going into our blood stream. This book has hepled me to identify if a product is doing me more harm than good. I recommend this book highly.

This dictionary is SO POWERFUL! I literally will not go shopping for beauty products unless I have it with me as a quick reference. I'm sure people at the mall or drugstore look at me like I'm insane, but I don't care because I have so much more money in my purse now that I'm not wasting it on false claims on what a beauty product will do. For instance, why should you pay $30 for a pretty bottle of designer face cream.....when all it is composed of is a base of cheap, man-made mineral oil and water!?! READ THE LABEL!!! I highly recommend the next time you have the urge to buy that next luxury bath or body product - stop - get and read this book first, and then decide rather or not that product is worth all that money.

Know What You Put On Your Skin and Hair.......2007-05-08
While this book is the best I've come across for concisely educating the public on what is in the skin and hair products we use, the ingredients dictionary really needs to be updated. Nonetheless, after reading the book, I feel more confident about making selecting skin and hair care products.
In addition to the detailed dictionary of natural organic, synthetic and chemical cosmetics ingredients, the author outlines natural skin and hair care regimes. He even includes illustrated step-by-step directions for self massage facial.

Book Description
This is a novel about migrant farm workers. All his life Jack O'Neal has known the joy of moving from one place to another, winter and summer, spring and fall, following the crops with his family. Jack is a hard-working boy, and when his father suddenly dies he shoulders the responsibility for supporting himself, his mother, and his little sister. In addition, he takes upon himself the burden of repaying a loan old Colonel House, a plantation owner, had made to Jack's father.
Picking, grubbing, and clearing is back-breaking labor for them all, but there is fun and adventure too as they move through the South in the old truck that serves as their home. And they meet all sorts of interesting people, the kind stay-at-homes never get to know.
In the end something good happens to Jack, and he knows that thereafter his mother and sister will not have to work the fields again. But not before the reader has had a rare opportunity to get to know the life of the Wanderers of the Field.
