Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

4 out of 5 stars Dances with Bears.......2003-03-11

A story about a boy named Short Tail, who is afriad that Grandfather bear has not survived the winter. No one has seen the bear, and it is past springtime. So Short Tail decides to climb the mountain and see if the bear is still alive. When he gets there he sees that the bear is still sleeping. Short Tail wakes the bear, and the bear takes him to a special meeting place of the bears. While at this place, the bears dance to celebrate the ending of winter. Grandfather bear tells Short Tail to go back and show his people the dance so they can do it also. It is a good story about why the Natives dance.

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful Beardreams.......2000-10-31

This book displays the great respect for wildlife that Native Americans have. The telling of the Ute's relationship with the bears is an old tale that is presented well with this book. The beautiful paintings in the book reflect what is written in the pages with subtle dreamlike messages throughout. As an educator, this book will be an asset to my collection for my students.

5 out of 5 stars A staple for children's gifts.......2005-10-31

I don't know how many copies of this book I've purchased over the years to give away as gifts for all the children I've encountered through family and friends. It's a wonderful story that breathes tolerance, humility, and respect and appreciation for one's differences. This is one of my favorite books! It's visually stimulating and speaks so much to the tradition of oral storytelling in Mexican culture. I also love the fact that the Lucia is gorgeous, and brown with deep black hair. It's empowering for little girls of color to see a strong protagonist of color---my students love her and connect with her character.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book.......2003-08-25

This is a powerful and beautiful retelling of this story. This book is written in Spanish and in English and anyone interested in Latino storytelling will buy this book for their collection. I also highly recommend DRUM, CHAVI, DRUM! by Cuban author, Mayra L. Dole, and TRINOS CHOICE, by Chicana author Diane Bertrand.

4 out of 5 stars beautiful story with strong female protagonist.......2000-09-22

Unlike the usual simpering heroine, Lucia is strong, mysterious, natural, and good. Children who are different from others--foreign, language difficulty, intelligence higher or lower--will appreciate how this stranger bounced back from hurt.

5 out of 5 stars A beautiful tale of forgiveness and respect.......2000-06-16

This retelling of the Legend of Lucia Zenteno is beautifully illustrated with vibrant colors and imagination. The text is given in English and Spanish. It is the story of Lucia who has the most beautiful long hair. It is so beautiful that the river that runs throught the town falls in love with her, and when the people of the town, because of their fear, drive her away, the river and all its inhabitants leave with her. The town has to learn humility and they try to get her to return. A wonderful book with a strong female hero.

5 out of 5 stars Great cards!.......2007-06-19

I tried for years to work with tarot decks and just found them to be cold and impersonal. A friend reccomended these and they've been not only easy to work with but very relevant to my life. I would highly reccomend these to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Medicine Cards: Discovery of Power through the Ways of Anima.......2002-01-09

I love this set, I kept my cards a secret to myself for the first few weeks I had them, but the identification of the reading and the situtaion I was questioning was eerie - so I asked various people who visited if they would not mind having a "Go" with the cards, well now my friends, family and acquaintences beleive I am a Shaman Sacred Card reader, this may be so but I believe it is the book and card set that are the true hero, as long as the person giving the reading has respect for the essense of the set the truth will Out. A teriffic gift to give someone interested in the subject of Native American Wisdom, it is so much fun to see a friends face change into the "Oh my god how did you know that" look. All readings are positive (I don't mean polite I mean give positive guidance for good news or bad) but one would have to be dim not to understand the significance of every card reading. If I can make sense of the set anybody can - The cards are Beautiful and the book print size is big enough for my bad eyesight, for late night reading with a bedside lamp.

5 out of 5 stars enjoyed the book very much........1999-10-05

beautiful cards. Interesting book. had many dream of spirit animals after reading book.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful tool for Shamans and all energy healers.......1999-04-23

I love Jamie's cards and I use them daily.

Speaking as a Shaman with over 30 years experience, I highly recommend this wonderful deck of cards to anyone interested in improving their lives, in getting in touch with animal mentors, in learning to communicate with animals, and mostly, in learning how to help others.

5 out of 5 stars great for relieving stress and overcoming anxiety.......1999-04-20

I have used the medicine cards myself and found the results of the spreads to be helpful and right on target. But I have also used them in another way. They worked very well in a group therapy session on a rehab unit where we passed around the easier cards, such as self esteem and boundaries, etc. and got the patients talking about how such topics affected their lives. They enjoyed the discussion as it was a totally different approach and were still talking about it several weeks later.

In the 19th century Peter Pan: The Original Story (Peter Pan) was a very important children's book just as Alice in Wonderland.
In these cases a world of fantasy and magic replaces that of science
and realism.
These stories delight the spirit of the young with their honesty and depth.
This sequel is up to the original in content
and keeps the reader's interest and sympathy. Here we have time travel,( Red) Indians,
toy soldiers, nurses , doctors and Texas Cowboys ( and a saloon girl)
interacting violently with the skin heads and school authorities.
And the "secret" like that of Peter Pan remains safe with those young at heart...

4 out of 5 stars My Review .......2007-04-04

The Secret of the Indian is a great book to read. But if you have not read the first two books (The Indian in the Cuboard and The Return of the Indian) you should not read this book because you need to know how it all begins. This is a great book because it has good detail and a great author's message. The author's message is that humans are people and you should not treat them like a toy (even if they're 3 in. tall). Also, it has exciting parts in it like when you figure out that Mr. Johnson knows. and that is why it is a good book.

Well if you like books with a lot of action, excitement and danger, a book called The Secret of the Indian is a good book for you. The main idea of this book review is to recommend this book under my opinion. This review is mainly about the end of a book called The Return Of The Indian and the book after that one in the series. It is called The Secret of the Indian. In this story, two main characters, Omri and Patrick, are faced with gangsters who are trying to rob Omri's house. Omri and Patrick chase off the skinheads, but have another problem, how they are going to explain to Omri's burn. A few weeks later, Patrick is trying to tell himself that every thing that happened with the magic cupboard was not real. So after Omri convinces Patrick that ever happened with the magic cupboard was real, both boys steal one of Patrick's cousin's dolls to heal Omri's plastic Indian, Little Bear. After they bring the doll to life and find out the doll's name is Matron, Matron heals Little Bear. Later, Patrick goes back to the time of his toy cowboy, Boone. When he comes back he brings some one back, Ruby Lou. The rest you have to find out yourself by reading the book. In my opinion, the last book in the series, The Secret Of The Indian, is a great book.
I totally recommend this book to someone between the ages of 8 and11. It is an excellent book for someone my age. It has great details, described by the author, Lynne Reid Banks, whose books I now love. The series of books are the kind of books where you could lose in until you finish reading the book. I enjoyed reading these books and I hope you do to.

The Secret of the Indian
By: Lynne Reid Banks

Period 1

Omri and Patrick are forced to reveal their secret to Patrick's cousin. At first, they couldn't trust her one bit, but as things got out of control, they realized they needed Emma. It all starts with Omri sending Patrick to the time of the cowboys. But when Omri brought back the indians and cowboys to life, they were all injured from a war. Omri only had one nurse so he didn't know what to do. There were about 30 injured and half dead indians in Omri's room. that's where Emma came into help. She knew of a plastic figure that was a surgeon that her sister had. By bringing him to life, the indians were helped and headed back to their own time. Meanwhile, Patrick was in the cowboy time and he wasn't having a good time. When he came back, he figured out that he had injured his best friend, a plastic figure of a cowboy. At first the nurse and surgeon thought he was dead but with Omri's strong fingers he stared breathing again. At school Omri read an essay that he wrote about his experience about his magical cupboard. No one thought it was true...except for the principal. The principal said to Omri," They were supposed to make an invention exactly like that and I have a reason to believe that you have that invention." At the end everyone thought the principal was crazy. So, the secret is being kept secret by Omri, Patrick and Emma.
I really like this book because there was so much activity going on in the story. And it's so secretive! It just makes you want to read more and more! There is nothing that i disliked about this book. Quotes: Clinging precariously to the bottom rim of the ceiling, Boone shouted a yell of help before he fell. I liked this quote because it showed action and awe. Another quote: " You need to send us back," Boone shouted. " We can't! We lost the key!" Omri replied. This quote is scary because omri can't find the key so the indians are stuck in the future.
My favorite part of the book is when Omri and Patrick try to keep Emma from learning their secret. But nothing works out and she finds out. I like this part because it is so suspicious of Emma and it's fun to see what they do.

5 out of 5 stars The book with full of adventure!!!!!.......2003-11-17

The book I read is called gThe Secret of the Indian.h It is the 3rd series of the Indian story. The first book is calledh The Indian in the Cupboardh and 2nd one is called gThe Return of the Indian,h and it is written by Lynne Reid Banks. I liked the 1st one and 2nd series also, but I liked the 3rd one best!!! It is full of adventure.

It is an unbelievable story, because it is about the main character named Omri, his friend Patrick, and the galiveh plastic figures. Of course, this is a fiction book. It is the story when Omri accidentally put his birthday present from Patrick, the plastic Indian into the magic cupboard and he turned the keyc the plastic figure turned into grealh Indian. Of coarse he is small, but he is alive, and he has the feeling, and he came form over 100 years ago. They turned more and more plastic figures alive, and it just was great day. Until, they knew that Patrick has to move. But he doesnft want to. So, they decided to send Patrick to the Boonefs (the Texas cowboy which was Patrickfs plastic figure, but turned into the real tiny person) time. They knew that they could send real people to the plastic figures time, which is more than 100 years ago, because they have tried before. If you send the real person to their time, the person is like a coma. When Patrick went to 100 years ago, every body started to search for him. And the people who knows about the magic cupboard is Omri, Patrick, and Patrickfs cousin, Emma. They think that they never should tell any adults, because if they tell any adults, it will be a problem, and I agree with them.

Do you think they can keep the important secret and cause no trouble? I donft think so. But Ifm not going to tell you any more.

The thing I thought through out the book is that is has great narrative hook, and if you start to read, you canft stop it. If you feel like boring, this is the book you should read. It will take you to the miracle world. I think this is the greatest strength of this book. I think this is the one of the wonderful author.

I didnft find any weakness, but I recommend one thing. If you havenft read the first and second series yet, you should read these first, because you will@find couple of things you wonft understand if you wonft read these books first.

I would recommend this book very much, to all the ages, and I especially recommend this to the 4th through 7th or 8th graders, because I know children likes this kind of magical world book than the most of adults.

Anyway, thank you very much for reading this, and again, you should read this book, or you will regret!!!

A classic Native American tale with brightly colored pictures.I have searched for this book for several years to replace an old worn copy.
I was very excited to find it through Amazon.

2 out of 5 stars Raven.......2005-03-25

Raven the trickser wants to give people the gift of light.
Raven gives light but you have to read the book to find out what else happens.

5 out of 5 stars glorious, sumptuous and respectful.......2003-07-12

I get antsy when Native American themes and stories appear in children's books. Too often they reek of cultural misappropriation.

But this beautiful book--gorgeous watercolor backgrounds to the Northwest Native American-style imagery--feels respectful, and does a great telling of a favorite Tlingit Haida tale of how light came into the world.

The illustration of the morphing of the Sky Chief's spoiled grandson back into Raven is particularly effective. And when Raven fills the sky with the sun in his beak, it's very easy to buy into this story as a valid creation myth.

I've now bought three copies of this book for various pre-schoolers I know, and all my grown-up friensd who've seen this book have fallen in love with it, too. This is a definite winner, bound to become as classic in its own way as Robert McCloskey's ``Blueberries for Sal.''

5 out of 5 stars They ask to listen to it again and again!.......2000-01-03

The children in my Pre-K class cannot get enough of this book. The magic of the illustrations and the text has them mesmerized. Many times, when we have finished reading the story, they want to here it again!

This is a wonderful book! My daughter and I really enjoyed the way that this tale was re-told and the illustrations were beautiful!

Book Description

Inspired by Robinson Crusoe and Jack London, Michael Modzelewski, jettisoned all baggage accompanying life in the comfortable middle class and set out to find raw, unharnessed wilderness. He found it on Blackfish Sound ("Blackfish" is the Kwakiutl Indian word for the killer whale) in the Inside Passage, the rugged coastline between Seattle and Alaska.

Leaving his home in Aspen, which had become a false Shangri-La for him, Modzelewski settled on a desolate island in the Inside Passage, a place which "after seducing you with beauty would shake you with fear. An unpredictable place that kept you always prepared, honed to the keen edge of life." Here he lived alone for months on end.

Inside Passage describes his experiences in this unspoiled setting, where the sky is his ceiling, mountains are his walls, and physical challenges test him down to the marrow. He also forms unusual friendships with passing yachters, salmon fishermen, Kwakiutl Indians, loners, and the owner of the house he is staying at, Will Malloff, a man of oversized personality -- a healer, builder, woodsman, and thinker. Modzelewski writes with a love for nature and gentle humor about his interactions with the native animals (eagles, whales, wolves), local animals (cats, dogs, "tame" wild boars), and other settlers.

Inside Passage is the powerful story of one man learning the ways of self-reliance in a soul-filled search through the northern wilderness.

5 out of 5 stars Real Deal.......2006-04-25

I live in Alaska and a friend recommended Mr. Modzelewski's book. And now I recommend it to the world. Sure, there's the usual descriptions of animals, ocean, weather and solitude but what makes this book special is the author goes so much deeper into the Spirit behind things. Haven't stopped thinking about his experiences and it's been a month now since I finished the book.

5 out of 5 stars PURE DRAMA.......2005-06-19

I'm an actress and read scripts, rarely books -- but after a producer friend recommended Inside Passage to me, I couldn't put it down! In fact, I read it three times. It was like watching a movie -- that's how vividly Michael Modzelewski writes. Alaska is a far different world than Los Angeles and I escaped completely to a pure and inspiring reality. Thank you, Michael! You are gifted and blessed. And who knows? Maybe we can turn this captivating story into a film, with the author and animals the main characters and could there be a more beautiful setting than the Inside Passage to Alaska -- as evoked so wonderfully in this poetic prose.

3 out of 5 stars Interesting but too idealistic.......2005-04-01

Quick read. Definitely worth it if you have been or are going to be in the region. Some of his scientific stuff is a little off but it's not the right book if you are looking for exacting detail on these subjects. Modzelewski's perspectives were very idealistic and I found it a little difficult to believe that the experiences he relates were quite a spiritual or mind altering as he sometimes makes them seem. The author does pull series of stories or facts together well. The chapters addressed themes - like the tribes, animals, the island's owner, etc. Modzelewski doesn't try to tell you everything there is to know about any of these subjects but selects what he thinks is interesting and relates it briefly. Often the points he makes or the stories he chooses to tell are not ones that you might have expected.

5 out of 5 stars Inside Passage -- Captivating!!!!!.......2004-09-08

A wonderful voyage in mother nature's womb, evoking feelings of awe, and revere at the colossal universe, inhaling the powerful imagery of wilderness through Michael.

5 out of 5 stars Beyond Human.......2004-08-11

Michael Modzelewski writes like a wild animal. If the beasts could speak it wouldn't come out much different than how Michael describes them. The author knows no limits -- extending into and giving shape to all animate matter in super insightful poetic prose.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Black Stallion Legend .......2005-12-16

In this book Alec and the Black take off , after a tragic death that rocks Alec's world. They end up in Arizona, where Alec sets the Black free. Alec stumbles upon an Indian boy who helps him out and tells him of a prophecy. The ending of the world and that a rider on a black horse will come to lead his people to the new world. When the Black returns to Alec the boy thinks Alec and The Black are the ones he mentioned in the prophecy. The boy leaves and Alec and the Black have to find their own way to the Indian village, going though some obstacles to get there

Later on earthquakes strike and Alec questions if the world really is over. At first Alec doesn't care but soon realizes that he must go on, and live his life. He has to stop running from the pain of his loss and live.

The end was a bit odd. The book was good though there were many sad parts Walter Farley did a great job, probably because he was writing from his own lost. This is the last Black stallion book to feature Alec that was written by Walter Farley , as the Young Black Stallion was a prequel

5 out of 5 stars The Culminating Triumph of the Series!.......2005-06-23

This last in the famous series about a young boy and his beloved racehorse is deeper and much more "adult-like" in nature than the books that preceeded it. It shows Alex (the young boy from the begining of the series) as an adult faced with trememdous issues and obstacles. I remember when I first read this book as a teenager I cried at the beginning and I cried again at the end, but for totally different and contrasting reasons. Even though I loved the beginning books, which are much more innocent and happy in their nature, I ended up loving this one the best because not only did it bring about a heart warming conclusion to a classic series, but the writing, in and of its own in this particular book, is expert.

5 out of 5 stars The Black Stallion Legend.......2004-03-29

This book is really the last of the series, because the Young Black Stallion is kind of like a prequel. Along with The Black Stallion's Ghost, Mystery (my personal fave) and The Young Black Stallion, this book was one of the "weird" ones. (I have heard about the Island Stallion Races being odd too, but I have just ordered that one off Ebay and haven't read it yet. I had the series as a kid and got rid of them and just recently had to buy them all back. haha). The story kind of has nothing to do with horse racing and the fairy tale story that the series started off with. No, Farley's writing style changed a LOT at the end of the series, and this book was really odd. It freaked me out when I read it at the age of 13, and now I am 19 and find it hard to beleive that this book, along with Ghost, Mystery, and Young, was meant for children ages 9-12... it is apocolyptic, confusing, depressing, and gets under your skin. At times, even drug-induced. I wonder why Farley made the book end so horribly?

2 out of 5 stars Good beginning, terrible ending. . ........2003-05-08

I've read all the books in the Black Stallion series, and this is the one I happen to like the least. The Black Stallion legend started out OK, but it turned out to be a very depressing, and eventually unnerving book, especially since it was the last one in the series. The preceding book, The Black Stallion and the Girl, was wonderful. Alec and a girl named Pam meet and fall in love, and the book ends on a hopeful note that Pam will someday return to Hopeful farm and marry Alec when she feels that the timing is right. But in this book, Pam gets killed in a car accident in Europe, and Alec has a nervous breakdown from his grief and the stress of the racing business. As a result, he simply ends up taking off across the country with the Black.
The second half of this book reads more like something out of the "Left Behind" series than one of Farley's books, with planet-wide earthquakes and meteor strikes. And the ending wasn't very clear - it left the reader puzzled and bewildered instead of a definite, tidy ending. Alec was on the phone with Henry, telling him where he is and that he and the Black are fine. When Alec feels an earthquake tremor, he asks if Henry is still there and there's no answer. And that's how it all ends. I think Farley should have left a good thing alone with the Black Stallion and the Girl, and not finished off a wonderful series with such a depressing tale.

4 out of 5 stars Native animal stories.......2001-10-25

This could have been a much longer book, since there is an almost endless number of Native American stories dealing with animals. Bruchac made a good selection, though, and the stories of a wide variety of North American native peoples are represented here. All of them show the importance of animals to the Native Americans in that they are central to creation myths, as well as tales of friendship and those providing numerous survival instructions. Bruchac kept the prose simple, making this book ideal for children. Also useful is the glossary at the end, and the descriptions of tribal nations which provide a great deal of useful information on the major North American peoples.

Book Description

"I'm a stranger to horses and horses are strangers to me," admits the author/narrator at the beginning of this delightful tale of discovery. Members of the Dogrib nation from Canada, Van Camp's people use dogs instead of horses. Yet Van Camp has always been curious about horses. So he sets off on a playful search for "the most beautiful thing about horses," talking to family, friends, and even artist George Littlechild, who is a Plains Cree and knows something about horses. The answers Van Camp gets range from zany to profound: Horses can run sideways. Horses have secrets. Horses can always find their way home. Littlechild's bold and fanciful paintings perfectly capture Van Camp's playful vision of the world.

Brilliantly illustrated by George Littlechild from the Plains Cree Nation, this humorous quest of a youngster's mind during a long winter's day, brings out the silly & the insightful.
