Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

5 out of 5 stars A close look at everyday Roman life.......2007-10-06

This is a masterwork by Dr. Wilhelmina Feemster Jashemski and Frederick G. Meyer that looks at the Roman cities destroyed by Vesuvius in 79 AD from the perspective of the Bay of Naples area's natural environment of the time. The many color plates in this large work also portray the artwork that was preserved in hundreds of houses and public buildings in Pompeii and Herculaneum. But the real focus of the book is the landscape, gardens, and fauna that existed in the Roman period. Millions of natural, as well as man-made, objects were preserved in the molten ash that fell on those towns and the authors have provided hundreds of illustrations of these items which add up to a comprehensive look at Pompeii's everyday surroundings--street, garden and rural hinterland. It's an amazing work the will be of interest to anyone who is a student of Roman history, architecture, botany or horticulture.

Dr. Jashemski is a professor emeritus of the University of Maryland which is currently involved in the excavation of the last town major town still completely covered by Vesuvian ash--Stabiiae. The potential to find some spectacular artworks on that site is considerable as it was the most upscale neighborhood on the Bay of Naples in that period.

5 out of 5 stars For the scholar or serious student.......2005-06-18

Partly art history, partly botany and zoology, and partly forensics, THE NATURAL HISTORY OF POMPEII is a beautiful comprehensive work including the writings of archeologists and others who have examined the ruins at Pompeii and Herculaneum with the goal of establishing the nature of daily life as lived by the inhabitants of the two doomed settlements. This collection of scholarly papers was assembled into a fine book edited by W.F. Jashemski and Frederick Meyer. Jashemski is Professor Emeritus of Ancient History at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she pioneered the field of ancient Roman garden archeology, and a former senior fellow at Dumbarton Oaks in DC which houses a wonderful collection of Pre-Columbian Art as well as stunningly landscaped grounds. Dr. Meyer is the former Supervisory Botanist in charge of the Herbarium at the National Arboretum also in Washington DC.

Selected chapters from the book cover a description of the site before the eruption in A.D. 79 based on the archeological, literary and Epigraphical Evidence. We know some of what we know about the fateful day owing to correspondence between Tacitus and Pliny the Younger, whose uncle Pliny the Elder perished in the catastrophe. Other chapters cover the flora and fauna of the area (both Pompeii and Herculaneum were affected). Archeologists have determined the identity of extensive numbers of plants (including trees, vines, edible foodstuffs and culinary and medicinal herbs), mammals, amphibians and reptiles, birds (grey parrots and love birds were kept as pets).

The book is filled with drawings and illustrations, as well as photographs of human and other animal, and plant remains; frescos from the villas and public buildings; jewelry and household items; and site shots including photos of the area surrounding the forum in Pompeii (including those taken from a balloon - with buildings clearly marked), as well as pictures of the archeologists at work capturing and preserving the natural material uncovered at the two sites.

If you are about to embark on a trip to Pompeii, have an interest in Roman life as it was lived in the first century, or an interest in archeological forensics, you will find this book enlightening, but perhaps it is more suitable for the Art History or Classics section of a school library than a coffee table book as one of my colleagues suggested.

5 out of 5 stars Great Overview of Natural History.......2003-06-19

Jashemski has worked for many years in Pompeii's gardens - and produced many publications. This volume not only brings together a summary of all of her work, it is complemented by robust ancilliary studies from experts in paleosols, pollen and fauna. Beautiful pictures, well-referenced - an academic book that also is of interest to other readers. THE must have of all Pompeii publications in recent times.

This book gives a vivid image of the Roman gardens. It explores the much unknown archeology of agriculture. The beautiful photographs illustrate the precision and wonder of Roman gardening, or the remains of it. I highly recomend this book to anyone interested in Pompeii or just the average run of the mill gardener.

    Book Description

This book is ideal for the non reader, the person who neither has the time no patience to sift through chapter after chapter looking for an author's main idea. Understanding Bodybuilding Nutrition and Training is a follow up to Aceto's Championship Bodybuilding. It contains, in a unique question and answer format, the answers to the most difficult to coprehend and often conflicting informatio on training, building mass, muscle recruitment, rep speed and nutrition. Here's what the author has to say regarding its format, "We learn and understand by asking questions. From the pre schooler to the University Scholar, the fundamental way to obtain new information and knowledge is by asking. I arranged this book in a simple 'Q and A' format to make it easy for the reader to get exact answers to questions regarding losing fat, holding muscle while dieting and building mass." The book also contais a dictionary of common bodybuildig terms, defining everything from lipolysis, to carbo loading to sarcomere- for the information buffs.

2 out of 5 stars Not sure this is a good buy.......2006-04-20

The last pages are a waste (glossary, about 100 pages), but the rest of it is in a question answer format that at times seem to contradict themselves. I think he should stick with nutrition he seems to know that, and leave the bodybuilding questions to people who know what they are talking about. Also just one side note I thought that he was disrespectful to Mike Mentzer calling him "ignorant". I am not a huge fan of Mike Mentzer, but I think that he forgot more about bodybuilding than Chris will ever know. I usually like Chris Aceto's books, this one however is not typical of his work.

4 out of 5 stars Good but expected somthing different..........2005-08-17

The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because i bought his other two books, championship bodybuild and everything you need for fat loss and most questions were answered in those books.
so if you don't have either one and you have knowelege in those areas. If you have some questions buy this book since both are kinda mixed to make this one.

    4 out of 5 stars Not Bad.......2001-05-17

Chris Aceto is obviously a smart guy. It shows in his writing. You'll never find a bodybuilding book that is "art", but as a reference source this book is pretty good. I do have a few "cons" about this book, though: It's somewhat abivalent about the steroid issue. Some of the information in this book (though not the majority) seems to be geared toward the steroid-using bodybuilder without acknowledging it, which may be confusing to "naturals". There is almost a wink-and-a-nod about steroid use in a few of the glossary entries. However, this is not uncommon in bodybuilding books, so you'll have to judge for yourself if the information in these few entries is right for you. The other gripe I have is that this book is in need of a professional copy editor. There are numerous typos and grammatical inconsistencies. Overall, you may think I'm slamming this book, but I'm not. Dive into it with your eyes open and you can come away with some good stuff, especially about non- or low-controversial supplements like vitamins, minerals, etc.

5 out of 5 stars advantage sneak peak into bodybuilding.......2001-02-08

WOW! Mr.Aceto hits a home run again! This book sheds light into little hidden truths. Many great gems to be discovered as you turn page to page. Truths that really get no main stream pub, such as 2b fibers (the secret to true growth) and proven information reguarding fat loss and lean tissue gains. This is a must read for any bodybuilder. Being a national level competior myself, i found this book amazing. I also really liked the quick reference check for supplemention and the easy to read format. This is my supplement shoppe's 1# selling book! Listen, If you are searching for and want true and real insight from the leader of the pack, this book is for you! I was a little shocked at some of the other reveiws I just read. Are they reading the same book? Mr. Aceto is the most credited trainer around! Heck, even Joe Weider has him writitng for his magazines. If you want mass-buy this book!

1 out of 5 stars A Different View of How to Lift.......2000-09-14

This book is not a long one, but the first 80 plus pages are not nutritional advice, and the final pages (past 100) are definitions of terms used in bodybuilding. The approximately 20 pages in between are the ones with nutritional information. If you want a book focused on bodybuilding nutrition please look elsewhere. IF you want a book that tells you about bodybuilding and has some nutritional information as an aside this may be for you. Many other books are much better; however, they take a different approach to the bodybuilding subject. Bodybuilding 101 by Wolff is excellent as an introduction to bodybuilding; however Bodybuilding 101 endorses the Weider methods which Mr. Aceto does not. This book will give you a different view of the endevor and might serve to round out a beginner's education on the subject. At least it will let a person know that there are different approaches to the sport.

I would not recommend this book to a first time bodybuilder or someone who has not read extensively on the subject. Anyone purchasing the book should know a lot of the information will be contradicted in other publications.

I found this to be a fabulously easy way to learn the Kana, both the hiragana and katakana. I used Rowley's "Kana Pict*o*Graphix" along with this and found that a photocopier was the only other item I needed. I also purchases heisig's "remembering the kana", but found his imagery to be more confusing than helpful. While there were a few occasions where I came up with my own imagery (yu in the hiragana looks more like some shifty person gesturing "hey YU, over here!" than a u-turn to me) the pictographix book made remembering both systems nearly effortless. After three weeks I can successfully, nearly always, read both forms including long vowels, double consonants and combined sounds.

Oh, I also want to let everyone know I had no previous training in japanese but did start a Pimsleur cd course at the same time during my commute to work.

    2 out of 5 stars OK.......2005-05-05

This book shows you how to write the Kana and provides some exercises to help you on the path. The best way is to just write the Kana on and on (of course following the rules of writing them).

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, but unusable without the tape........2005-03-06

I originally bought this book alone, to "fill the gaps" after the excellent Heisig's and learn the Katakana (Heisig's part on hiragana is excellent, but the part on Katakana is just bad), only to realize that it was really not meant to be used without the accompanying tape. The book and the tape should really be sold as a single bundled package. All that being said, the book is excellent. Get the book, get the tape, move on to the Kana version of Japanese for Busy People 1, and don't ever pollute your mind with romanji.

3 out of 5 stars Solid, but doesn't have enough material to go on its own.......2003-12-06

The KANA WORKBOOK serves as a prelude to Kodansha's "Japanese For Busy People" volumes, one of the more consistent (but never really outstanding) language teaching series. It introduces first hirangana, the writing system used for some native Japanese words, and then katakana, which is used for foreign borrowed words. Though the reader is not expected to know anything about Japanese grammar, the book does teach some simple sentences, and all there are numerous exercises to write in real Japanese.

As a self-learner i was rather disappointed, because on their own the contents of KANA WORKBOOK are insufficient. There are simply not enough exercises to really hammer the material in. In a classroom situation, however, the instructor would presumably be using other methods of kana exercise and therefore the book would be a good fit there.

If you get the KANA WORKBOOK to start with the Japanese For Busy People series, be sure to get the Kana Version of JAPANESE FOR BUSY PEOPLE I instead of the usual romanised version. If a student already has a good grasp of kana, whether from this book or another like it, he or she will be able to start learning Japanese in a natural way, without the functional illiteracy that is an unfortunate result of learning through romanisation.

As many others say, avoid romanji at all costs... but if so, then at least invest a little bit of time in learning the kana with their PROPER pronounciation before you set on a regular study with Japanese for Busy People 1. Kana Workbook was meant to be used with the accompanying tape and it's quite useless without it. Relying on english phonetic descriptions will only get you this far, written descriptions are only approximate.

    Book Description

THE REVISED 3RD EDITION OF JAPANESE FOR BUSY PEOPLE

In the 22 years since its publication, Japanese for Busy People has won acclaim worldwide as an effective, easy-to-understand textbook, either for classroom use or for independent study. Now, more than a decade after its first revision, the series is being redesigned, updated and consolidated to meet the needs of today's students and businesspeople who want to learn natural, spoken Japanese as effectively as possible in a limited amount of time. At each level of the series, enough vocabulary and grammar have been presented to enable the learner to communicate in uncomplicated adult Japanese without having to memorize excessive amounts of vocabulary and sentence patterns that are not immediately useful. All components of the series have been prepared under the guidance of a working group of experienced Japanese language instructors who reviewed and tested the material in an authentic classroom environment.

This workbook has been designed for those students who are not yet comfortable conversing in Japanese and wish to have more practice. "Drills for Oral Fluency," as it might be called, provides ample speaking and listening practice in the form of illustrated exercises that call on learners to construct dialogues and role-play in Japanese. Though the book draws vocabulary and sentence patterns from Japanese for Busy People I: Revised 3rd Edition, students can use it either in tandem with the main text (inside the classroom or out) or separately as independent study material. This completely new workbook contains the following features:
99 dialogues for use in everyday situations
A free CD containing 57 minutes of natural Japanese speech recorded at regular conversational speed, with numerous lines left unspoken for the learner to fill in
    108 pages of manga-like illustrations
39 "key phrases"-indispensable expressions for daily life

      Book Description

Four independent-minded sisters come of age in the early 1900s - and four interwoven novels tell their stories, each through a different sister’s eyes.

The year is 1910, and the four Purcell sisters have only each other. Their mother has died, leaving them orphans in a rambling country estate. But with the help of the Mackenzies - their guardian and his family, whom the sisters come to love in very different ways - Sarah, Frances, Julia, and Gwen find the courage to follow their own paths in a world that is rapidly changing.
Avid readers and fans of historical-fiction classics will love these spirited heroines - named "the Little Women of our times" by the TIMES of London - and will be thoroughly absorbed by their intertwining tales, full of feistiness, creativity, and young romance.

5 out of 5 stars I absolutely LOVE this series!.......2007-08-30

I first read Frances's story when i was 12. My mom bought it and thought I might like it. I let it sit in my room for a couple months before finally getting around to reading it. I was immediately pulled in. As soon as I finished it I went out and bought the other three books and loved them all. This series is a very good read and is probably the reason I enjoy reading historical fiction so much. I'm 17 now but every now and then when I have nothing else to read I always go back to Frances's story. I highly recommend this series and believe everyone should give it a try!

      5 out of 5 stars A Very Good Series!.......2005-07-02

This is the first book in the Sisters of the Quantock Hills Series. I very much recomend reading these books in order. This series is unique because it is basically the same story told from each sisters' point of view. I love them and would recomend them to anybody over the age of twelve.

5 out of 5 stars They don't have half-stars or it would be 4 and 1/2.......2004-12-21

I am rather cautious with my book-buying, so I never buy a series. I didn't realize there were three more books when I started this one! I began with Sarah's Story because my name is Sarah and I, like Sarah Purcell, want to write books -- yes, yes, that's sappy. She ended up being nothing like me; I found I was more like Frances. These books are quite well-written in a very unique voice, and you can feel the tone change between sisters. Sarah's book makes you feel more timid and aching for her because of Gabriel. These books are very honest about people and feel very real, and I enjoy that, even though it makes them much more painful to read. I recommend this quartet to anyone, and don't be silly like me and get them one at a time out of caution. There's too much suspense to wait until you can go buy the next book -- Get all four!

      4 out of 5 stars Wonderful story.......2004-04-06

This book was lovely. I picked it up at the book store just a few weeks ago.

This story involves a young girl named Sarah. The story starts when she is 7. Her mother dies and her oldest sister Fances is to take care of her, along with her guardian. Over the next ten years she will fall in love with her guardian's oldest son, Gabriel. He goes off the war but Sarah continues to communicate with him through letters. The problem is Gabriel is almost 15 years older and madly in love with Frances. I loved this book, despite it starting off rather slow in the begining.

This weekend I finished the book and I went to the store and bought the rest of the series. I suggest reading the books in order, which makes it more thrilling. If you like historical fiction with a little bit of romance, you will surely enjoy this book.

      4 out of 5 stars really good!.......2002-07-25

This is a really nice start to a really good series- about four orphaned sisters who live in the english countryside. Though this book starts out when the main character is only seven, the author shows a seven year-olds view without going into first person. A really great book.
