Book Description
Kids love to be outdoors, to spend time wandering down leaf-carpeted paths, turning over rocks, and experiencing the different textures of moss, tree bark, and prickly shrubs. Written by an expert naturalist, WOODSWALK offers guided tours for all four seasons and all regions of North America, highlighting special creatures, conditions, and events every step of the way. Aspiring young naturalists will learn how to see beyond their own noses, "read" the woods for signs of the presence of animals, interpret sounds, and identify odors. They will also be instructed what NOT to touch or taste in the wold. With enough identification information on trees, terrain, plants, and wildlife for a hundred walks in the woods, this book is the complete first primer for the inquisitive young naturalist. Includes a cut-off, pocket-sized leaf and tree spy guide.

Good, but old........2007-08-06
Good book, you can see the author did understand a lot about, but the plans are old a little, and I don't understand very well the off sets system for mark and cut the planks. The boats looks like very weight to me too. I'd prefer the Chris Culczik system.

Great Book!.......2007-01-24
This is a great book for who wants know about boat construction. It's easy to understand. I really recomend!
Preserved Collection of Inspirational Designs.......2006-09-04
John Gardner died in 1995, and left a legacy of preserving the designs of 19th century American small workboats and recreational craft. The designs are not for the beginner, and those looking for a how-to primer would be greatly served by reading "How to Build Glued-Lapstrake Wooden Boats" by Hill and Brooks. But Gardner gives great inspiration on the type of boat that your would like to invest your scarce project hours into. Gardner took the care to measure the vestiges of classic small craft that were still observable during his lifetime, and wooden boat enthusiasts will appreciate this comprehensive effort.
My favorite boat building book.......2006-05-24
What a great book! I had a hard time putting this book down and find myself going back often to compare boat designs. John Gardner places great value on traditional techniques but does mention modern materials once in a while. Still, I wonder if some of these boats could be built lighter with less solid wood and more marine plywood then he recommends. There are enough different designs to satisfy most boat builders. The plans are excellent in detail but too small really for construction purposes. You will need to loft them with care.
Ultra-Classic written by a Classy Guy.......2004-05-27
John Gardner has rightfully been called the "Father of Small Craft" in The U.S.. The fellow knew more about small boats - how to design them, build them and enjoy them - than just about anybody in the late 20th Century. This book combines two of his classic works into one. Now don't expect to start building your first boat a day after this book comes in the mail. Although the plans and construction notes are very good, John assumed that you knew how to carve a rabbet and lay a plank. I don't. And yet this book lives in my bathroom where I can open it to just about any page and be inspired in a minute or less. His description of what makes the right kind of rowboat got me to build my first row boat. I've been hooked on rowing and building since. Thank You Mr. Gardner!

Years of Knowledge.......2007-09-10
I loved this book. I am in the process of becoming a public speaker and wanted to be very affective with the people I speak to. This book helped me to make sure my workshop is designed in the correct order to teach from A to B rather than floundering around from one to another topic never smoothly progressing toward the ultimate goal. I am well on my way to become an excellent public speaker.
A practical book on effective speaking.......2007-07-29
Dale Carnegie discusses several aspects of effective speaking:
1. Keep your goal before you, visualize success, and seize every opportunity to practice.
2. Prepare well and be confident.
3. Speak on a topic that you have expertise in and are passionate about.
4. Limit the scope of your talk, know 10X what you put on slides, and fill talk with illustrations and examples.
5. Talk to your listeners' interests, give honest and sincere appreciation, empathize with audience, make them a partner in your talk, be modest.
6. For short talks, give an example / incident from your life (70%), state your point and action desired from audience, and the benefit that the audience may expect.
7. For informational talks compare strange with familiar.
8. For impromptu talks, get into an example immediately, speak with animation / enthusiasm.
9. Converse with your audience, specific details help
Numerous examples reinforce the above notes. Useful and easy to apply.
Myth: Great speakers are born.......2007-01-08
Myth: Great speakers are born. Dale Carnegie's "The Quick and Easy Way to Effective Speaking" may be a misnomer - it's not as easy as easy as the title may imply, but more importantly, he shows that it's nurture not nature that makes a great speaker. The book is filled with inspiring examples, tips and lessons. If you want to become a great speaker, this is a must read. You'll learn about the common pitfalls, the structure of the talk, the importance of introductions, conclusions, and much more. This book has stood the test of time and helped thousands of people, I'm glad to say that I'm one of them.
Nothing short of effective........2007-01-05
Great book to pick up and read to get a better understanding of ways to speak in front of big audiences, as well as small crowds. Highly effective if the reader really puts himself into it and follows the principles listed in the book. I have other Dale Carnegie books in my possession and I recommend all of them.

The cd I received is entitled "Public Speaking and Influencing Men in Business" by Dale Carnegie; however the content corresponds to Napoleon Hill's recordings. I didn't order Hill's recording and I don't want it. Please send what I ordered.

Whose Side are you on?.......2005-09-28
Whose Side are you on is a really great book. It's about a girl who recieves her report card and realizes that she has gotten a unsatisfactory in math. On the walk home she tosses her report card in the trash can. when she turns back around the garbage man was throwing it away. She begged the trash man to give the paper back too her, but he refused. whe she gets home she trys to be very nice, but her mother notices and punish her. The next day her teacher gives her a tutor. Her new tutor is the worst boy in class, he picks on her and he teases her. One day the teacher skips over his name. She wonders why he gone. Where can he be? I would recommend this book to any young adult. It talks about relationships and trust.
Blast from the past.......2005-09-12
This is my favorite childhood book, hands down, and I highly recommend it to all children of the appropriate age range. I just looked it up on a lark, and I'm so happy to have found it, I will definitely read it again for old times sake. I probably read this when I was 8, I borrowed it from the Queens Public Library, and remember the title and the characters to this day (I'm 23). It's a very real book, that does not talk down to children, but rather respects their intelligence and offers characters that they can identify with, and who feel and react the way real people do. In conclusion: a must-read!
Taking Sides.......2005-03-02
The book takes place around the 1990's and is in a big city.It is also winter time in the city. Barbara who is in 6th grade has to be tutored for math. Her tutor is smart but he always bothers her.His name is T.J. One day T.J doesnt show up for school and the next and the next. Barbara wants to figure out where he is and she causes alot of trouoble when doing so. I did really like this book it had alot of funny parts and not to many boring ones.
Hmm, Interesting.......2001-02-23
I would say that this book was pretty good. It was really easy for me to read, though. But I did like the book. It was interesting and fun to read. I was always wondering what was going to happen next. But sometimes I could just guess. This is the first book that I can remember reading that was like this. That is unless you count novels that your friends have written that was on an African American family. If it was like that then I would like my friends better, because it had to do with our age group and kind of based on our life. I really don't know what else to say. Except that it was easy to read. It only took me a day to read it. I think that kids on a lowere reading level would enjoy this book.
A Great Book!.......2000-11-22
A Great Book! I would rate this book a 5 star book *****. A girl named Barbra who is getting a bad grade in math. She was invited to a slumber party but her mother wont let her go in less she gets her math grade up. Her mom hirers a tutor who turns out to be a boy Barbra hates. Later in the story T.J. (the boy) runs away and Barbra tries to find out where he ran off too. She gathers info and finds out T.J.'s grandfather lied about where T.J. was so she starts a boycott. Barbra is the one that sets out to look for him. At the end it all works out. I think this would be an age limit to 11 and up. It is a grate book and I definitely recommend it to others.
