Book Description
Even in the intricacy of creation we see the proclamation of God's redeeming love at work. Jo Kadlecek pieces together a tapestry of essays that reveal God's constant though sometimes innocuous works of reclaimation. These stories, many personal in nature, will inspire a new sensitivity to God's work in this post-modern world.

Book Description
Two communicate underwater a diver needs one of two things, expensive underwater communication equipment or a creative imagination.
Scuba Talk has solved the problem with a system of hand signals to relay the sighting of marine life with speed, ease and accuracy. This book provides a diagram of each hand signal, which is accompanied by a spectacular color photograph, useful facts, plus diving advice for commonly seen aquatic animals in the Florida, Bahamas and Caribbean region.
Customer Reviews:
Title of Book Vague .......2005-05-26
It's a very cute, compact, spiral bound book with striking photographs. However, I was disappointed with my purchase.
I had anticipated that the book would focus on hand signals to be used as an underwater language for divers.
However, the book focuses primarily on hand signals for the identification of fish.
There are 70+ pages in the book and only two pages are designated for (extremely basic) hand signals for scuba divers.
If you want to communicate the id of a fish to your dive buddy, this is the book for you.
A great introduction to communicating underwater.......2000-11-04
A great book for someone who is new to the diving experience. Great visuals.
Basically, it's a kid's book. Use a dive slate!.......1999-07-24
serious divers will likely think this complex system is pretty silly. A slate works really well. But for kids, or for a few basic communiques, the book has some good signals. It would take a good knowledge of the marine creatures before the signals would make sense. It does go far beyond the simple hand signals from your PADI classes. It would be a neat gift to give a Junior Open Water graduate.

Figure skating luminaries like Sandra Bezic reveal the sacrifices and challenges made to become a star.
Skate Talk is a moving portrait of figure skating and one that chronicles the sport as no other book has ever done.
Customer Reviews:
An Engaging Read!.......2001-07-31
I bought this book on the recommendation of friends and I'm glad I did -- it's a wonderful look inside skating though the words of the skaters and skating community themselves, with very little editorial commentary. The stories are easy to follow and really bring a different perspective into the wins, losses, triumphs and tragedies the skating world has gone through over the past half century. I enjoyed all the stories in the book except for one, where a couple of hockey players discuss power skating. Normally I wouldn't care one way or the other about it except that one of them pretty much trashes the sport of figure skating in a statement he makes, and I question the inclusion of this in a book aimed at figure skaters and fans (who akready have to hear stuff like this enough as it is!) But this is a minor quibble. Skip the hockey player story and you'll be fine. :)
one of the best figure skating books availiable.......1999-05-28
This book is a collection of interviews with some of the world's top skaters. The choice of champions included goes beyong the usual list of world titleholders and Olympic champions to stars true skating fans rarely see and would love to know more about, such as spinning phenom Lucinda Ruh.
Most of the stories are personal, giving more insight into the skaters lives than a collection of competition results and technical explanations would. For anyoe who follows figure skating, this is a must-have book.
The year's best!.......1999-05-02
I have read a lot of figure skating books published this year and last and this unpretentious, soft cover book is the best. It is a series of oral essays by skaters, coaches, commentators and officials. Those interviewed, some famous, some not, talk about everything from skating as Mickey Mouse for Disney, to what it is like to come and train in the US. from Russia, to some of the dramatic, tragic stories of this little world as the death of Sergei Grinkov. Mr. Milton must be a good interviewer because he draws out the skaters and others in the book so that they provide real insight and emotion to the subject. And we see their love for their sport on every page. This book has more content than any of the flashy, coffee table books produced recently. I highly recommend it.
Entertaining Read!.......1999-03-29
While this book is not long on depth, it does give some entertaining insights into the thoughts behind the images. Great for younger readers as well.
Skaters talk from the heart.......1998-07-11
A interesting book that allows the skaters to comment without interruption. The book is a series of comments from almost any skater you have heard of on almost any skating subject you can think of. An interesting and enjoyable read.

Customer Reviews:
Great book for learning grammar as a foreign native.......2007-06-13
My children studied the basic version of Grammar in Use. As non-English speaking family, I am happy that our children are enrolled in GT classes or in a Magnet school. They have gotten 'A's in Reading and/or English. Now they are learning this version. Well organized expressions and rich examples are guiding them to the 'fast track'.
ESL revisited..........2007-03-23
Students love this book and so do I as their teacher in English as a Second Language or ESL in the El Paso TX area. This puts the polish on the vocabulary, comprehension, pronunciation, and confidence I attempt to instil in my students...the answers are in the back to aid self study and the CD allows them to hear correct pronunciation prior to coming to class so the class acts as a review for thier homework. Thank you.
Best and most concise grammar book.......2007-03-08
I am an ESL teacher for adult students. This is the best and most concise and uncomplicated grammar book on the market. It is clear, with explanations on one page, and exercises on the facing page. I recommend it to anyone teaching English or learning English. R. Cameron San Diego
A good fit for some students, a bad fit for others. . ........2007-02-08
This book does *not* teach English the way academics say it ought to be spoken and written; it teaches English the way most people speak it. (For instance, it teaches students to write "None of them are. . ." instead of "None of them is. . .", a classic usage mistake very common among native speakers.) Whether this is good or bad depends on the goals of your students.
I have taught from this book for four years, but have never come to rely on it fully, because it is a bad fit for any student who is preparing for college in the U.S. The SAT Writing (and many other high-stakes exams) require *academically correct* grammar. So do most high school and college instructors.
Since absolute, academic correctness is not the primary goal of this book, it does not go into the detail of Azar's Fundamentals of Grammar. On the one hand, this makes it a less informative, less complete text. On the other hand, it's a much friendlier, easy-to-understand introduction.
I often teach a concept from this book first, and then, if necessary, I go over the same concept in Azar's Fundamentals of Grammar. However, that's an expensive option because it requires two textbooks. I would say that this book is your best bet *if* you are looking for an intermediate textbook geared toward "getting along" in the English language. However, if your students are aiming to excel in the U.S. education system, you should look elsewhere.
Good for review your general grammar knowledge.......2006-03-31
I'M A SPANISH SPEAKER THAT WAS SEEKING FOR A BOOK THAT BEGINS ABOVE THE BEGINNERS LEVEL. THIS BOOK BEGINS WITH MORE COMPLEX GRAMMAR.

Excelent!.......2007-10-06
I'm Chilean and I'm trying to learn English, this book is very helpful and the cd is great for exercises. Thanks.
English Grammar in Use.......2007-06-10
A very good explanation of various grammar points. The exercises that go with the explanations helps to reinforce the rules of grammar. An excellent homework resource, not just ESL students, but also for native speakers of English.
Excellent Grammar book for non-native speakers.......2007-05-31
This grammar book explains and teaches individual learners the rules in English grammar. The theory, exercises are very well organised and prepared. I strongly recommend this book.
Super Good Book!.......2006-10-31
I have this book for intermediate students and also have the one with red cover for beginners. Initially bought this and other books to review grammar for Toefl and this was the only one I ended up using it. My friend is using the red book and that is very good for somebody who starts learning English.
I highly recommend this book for learning or reviewing English grammar. It's well organized easy to follow and understand. It covers all I was interested in to review and learn.
Thank you for the book.
A good suplimental text for the serious teacher or student........2006-10-17
I am a EFL teacher, and everyone of my serious and dedicated students have either this book or Essential English GrammarMurphy's other creation).
The explanations are, for the most part, easy to understand and he supplies diagrams where appropriate. The grammar and vocabulary are of the U.K. variety but I haven't found it major problem.
To the Teacher:
If you are looking for supplemental material to give to your students as homework or as in class short pattern oral drills, then this book is definitely for you.
To the student:
Confused about how to use "A and THE"? Why is "The movie is bored" wrong? Ok It's true... English grammar is difficult but it's also important. This book explains English grammar very well. If you are a serious student, please ask you teacher if this book will help your progress.

perfect book for learning grammar.......2004-03-12
I use this book to improve my english grammar and teach my sister. It is very valuable for intermediate up to advanced student to study this book. Inside this book, it is different from any other grammar books. Why? there are some many units that they write in their experiences to teach english for example, "even" chapter is a chapter that many grmmar book don't publish and about the "in on at" which is very special for me to see the new use of them(at age of...). The additional exercise is most practical for student from pre-intermediate to advanced. i am fluent in using english grammar. When i see this book and consult this book, it actually work best in the other books. so now there are many versions translated.
However, it has a little point to improve this book is the coverage of the context. ex, preposition is less explanation, adjective and adverb are also less. i give it 97% of the best grammar book in the world

As an ESL Teacher, this is a must have for all teachers and students. It is simply the best grammar book on the market and has been for many years. This book is perfect for new and experienced teachers and students. Dont look any further and buy this.
Incredible.......2004-08-11
Well as speaker of another language I bought a lot of
books to learn English.Although I learnt in high school I
still have been buying books to learn more.
Finally I bought English Grammar in use and coudn't stop reading.
I've never seen better book.It covers everything you need to know about English grammar. It covers especially British english
which is strong on grammar than American english.
I'm going to buy other book for Basics soon which I don't need but maybe for reference.I just love this book.A++++++.
Every ESL Instructor & Student Should Have This.......2003-02-26
This is helpful for students who need some improvement on accuracy and the basic understanding of general or particular grammar concepts. Some Intermediate students have more needs than others as more complicated facets of English are brought forth at this level. If a student needs to more fully understand the difference between the usage of "for" and "since" for example, this particular point can be xeroxed and handed out to those who need it. (Many students cannot afford to purchase this entire book in many parts of the world.) There are useful illustration timelines and examples for many grammar functions here. The table of contents makes a point quick to find. A very useful supplement to the curriculum textbook, especially in communitive textbooks (i.e., Headway, Interchange) that are focusing on fluency-based methodology. In sum, students with grammar (accuracy) problems can get specific aid parallel to the text and activities being used in the curriculum.
It works!.......2001-06-18
For many year we have used this practice book with our students and most - if not all - of them liked it and had fun with grammar. Results improved dramatically and the teachers could sit back and relax. Not only do the comprehensive explanations shed some more light into many students' darkness of English Grammar but students welcome the variety of graded exercises that really give them a chance to progress steadily. Good book for all EFL/ESL students, no matter what their national background is.
Perfect for self-studying.......2001-06-14
This book covers very good the basic english grammar. I used this book when I was practising for the "Cambridge First Certificate" and it turned out very helpful. There is a good structure with grammar content on the left side of the book and excercises on the right. You easily find the grammar topics you are looking for, as they are listed in a logical order. I highly recommend this book, but I don't give it 5 stars because it's a bit dated and does not include any modern, usefull expressions.
Book Description
Vocabulary in Use: Upper Intermediate helps high-intermediate to advanced learners consolidate and expand their knowledge of English vocabulary. The book contains 100 lessons that cover approximately 3,000 new vocabulary items. Ideal for self-study, its easy-to-use format presents a content- or grammar-based area of vocabulary on the left-hand page and innovative practice activities on the right-hand page. Firmly based on current vocabulary acquisition theory, this text promotes good learning habits and teaches students how to discover rules for using vocabulary correctly. An edition without answers, suitable for classroom use, is available; an intermediate level is also available.
Customer Reviews:
Highly Recommended.......2002-08-21
I have been teaching ESL to Spanish speakers and Hebrew speakers for the past 3 years. My students love this book. The vocabulary points are clear and detailed. The exercises are directly relevant to all of the explanation. It is great for teachers in the classroom and for students who want to study on their own.
Exceptional, only by reading you'll believe it.......2000-05-31
Is an uncommon book that gives you an advanced introduction to most common vocabulary used among the students in North America, giving very good results for those who are learning the english as a second language to access college and studies purposes, enhancing the speech and personal vocabulary.

2001 Amazon.com/Books in Canada First Novel Award Shortlist: As a hockey player, young Paul Woodward is a few steps behind his best pal, Finnie Walsh. Both boys, however, have hockey coursing through their veins. Finnie, the son of the local mill owner, and Paul, the son of a mill worker, forge a fast friendship through endless hours of shooting, stickhandling, and passing. It is hockey that holds them together as they grow into young men. Along the way, they must deal with Paul's eccentric father, his withdrawn sister, and the uncomfortable disparity in their socioeconomic status. As a sports novel, Steven Galloway's first effort leaves a bit to be desired, since it doesn't capture the frantic intensity of the game. As a tale of friendship, however, Finnie Walsh is sweetly endearing and filled with charming quirks and unexpected twists. --S. Duda
Book Description
"Finnie Walsh will forever remain in my daily thoughts, not only because of the shocking circumstances of his absurd demise, but because he managed to misunderstand what was truly important even though he was right about almost everything else." So begins Steven Galloway’s critically acclaimed first novel. The story is told by Paul Woodward, Finnie's best friend and the only good child in a long line of delinquents. Hockey is one of the few things they have in common: Finnie’s family is rich and snobbish, while Paul’s father works the night shift at the local mill owned by Finnie’s father. One fateful day, the boys noisily play hockey in the Woodwards’ driveway, keeping Paul's father awake. This seemingly innocent activity triggers a shattering chain of events. Finnie Walsh has been compared to the work of John Irving, but Galloway’s voice, most particularly his unforgettable portrait of the title character, is uniquely his own.
Customer Reviews:
Awesome!.......2006-07-24
I first saw this book and thought, okay, well, it's about some little Canadian hockey players in the eighties, that's weird. But having never played hockey nor lived in Canada or the eighties, I thought, well, I'll give it a try. And I loved it. Stephen Galloway's first novel is a remarkable story of two boys growing up together with a common love. The characters were wonderfully quirky. I've read this book about 3 or 4 times and I cry every time. It would make a beautiful movie as well.
A good canadian book! Finally!.......2003-04-08
Finnie Walsh. A book not only fun, but informative as well. This book, written by Steven Galloway is an awesome, book. Unlike the usual canadian books, it just great... If you like Hockey you'll love this book. If you don't like hockey you'll love this book. The book has relationships, between family, friends, and beaus. A wonderful, outstanding read.
Finnie Walsh is Amazing!.......2001-12-05
Finnie Walsh in my opinion was an eye opening experience it is by far the best book I have ever read and everything about it made me feel more interested. There is not a single bad thing I could say about it! The characters alone made the book, how you understood how they felt at diferent times, how they were perfectly described! This book made me laugh, cry and made me feel emotions that have never occured before in my mind! I couldn't put it down and I will continue to read it over and over again because everytime I am sure that I will recieve more and more happiness sadness and information from the text! I am getting it for everyone for Christmas and I hope that everyone will enjoy this story as much as I did!
Wonderful Story!.......2001-11-15
I picked up this book mainly because of my job working with high school teachers and students and ended up reading parts of it out loud to my own kids during a car trip. My 12 year old son was hooked, he read the book, then I finished it. It was amazing to have that 'secret book conversation' with my son. I/we both loved the book.
A Spanky Read!.......2001-10-12
Are you looking for a spanky good read? Look no further than this sly little Canadian book about a couple of kids living in the middle of the province of British Columbia who play hockey. This book is a swift, delicious thing that has a devilish way of not letting you free of it. You'll want to read it until you arrive at the last page--it is, in the classical sense of the hyphenated word, a "page-turner". I loved it. It was touching, heartfelt, and uncommon. A novel with an elegant plot, developed synchronously with its characters' motivations. Galloway is a secret talent ready to explode on the scene.
