As little children we know how to live in the moment and be completely authentic. But then something damaging happens to us, according to author Don Miguel Ruiz: we are given "knowledge" about how to live in the world. Parents tell us how to behave in order to be a "good" boy or girl. Teachers tell us what it takes to be a "winner" or a "successful" adult. This collective "voice of knowledge" is not only false--it is often poisonous, explains Ruiz, bestselling author of The Four Agreements. It makes us believe that "I am not the way I should be; it is not okay to be me." Drawing upon the story of Adam and Eve, Ruiz refers to the forbidden tree of knowledge and likens the abandonment of the true self to the fall from heaven. What Ruiz calls "the voice of knowledge" others spiritual teachers might call ego--the hidden and carefully defended belief system that prevents us from living and expressing who we really are. "The structure of our knowledge makes us feel safe
.When we discover that we are not what we believe we are, the foundation of our entire reality begins to collapse." In the Toltec tradition, Ruiz says every human is an artist, "and the supreme art is the expression of the beauty of our spirit." He explains that there are two kinds of artists: "the ones who create their story without awareness, and the ones who recover awareness and create their story with truth and love." The recovering of awareness is what this fourth book in the Toltec Wisdom series is all about. This makes for a good bedside spiritual growth book. Each chapter closes with "Points to Ponder"--summary thoughts to sleep upon as you create the more authentic story of your life. --Gail Hudson
Book Description
In this audio version of the fourth book in the popular series, don Miguel Ruiz reminds readers of a profound yet simple truth: The only way to end emotional suffering and restore joy in living is to stop believing in lies mainly about ourselves. Ruiz refers to the forbidden tree of knowledge, likening the abandonment of the true self to the fall from heaven. This fall, he says, occurred because of the loss of "the impeccability of the word," that simple yet potent prescription for countering the judgmental inner "Voice of Knowledge." Adhering to "the word" saying only what one means, refusing to speak against one's self allows anyone to quiet those inner tyrannical thoughts so that we can become aware of our Voice of Integrity. Knowledge then becomes an ally, and life becomes an expression of the authentic self.

This CD is amazing. I find myself listening to it on my way to and from work every day since I've received it. It is very soothing to listen to the narrator's voice and the recording is high quality. The content of Don Miguel's work is changing the way I think. It is increasing my awareness of myself and my surroundings and allowing me to make day to day decisions and interactions from a higher level of consciousness. This already is a treasured part of my spiritual growth and evolution process.
Nothing life changing.......2007-05-07
Cheesy at it's best times. This book of enlightenment taught me no more than could be found on a fortune cookie or Dear Abby column. Not worth the time it took- which was not much as it's a short, easy read- it takes more time as you stop and say "Seriously? Seriuosly."
Take off your masks!.......2007-03-17
Interesting point of view on living authentic life. Don Miguel Ruiz is an intelligent, savvy person. Each chapter is summed up by the main points. This is a guide for life, and I hope to start using my notes on it soon.
Awesome.......2007-03-15
Another blockbuster by Don Miguel Ruiz. A little slow in the middle I thought, but the last two chapters blew me away!
Simple words, simple wisdom.......2007-03-09
As with his other works, Don Miguel Ruiz once again challenges us to take a new look at the stories and beliefs we hold in order to reach a higher level of self-realization and communion with our creator. Ruiz' works are consistent with some of the best in human psychology, and are easily absorbed into the religious and world-view perspectives the reader may hold. Rather than challenging our relationships with God, Ruiz calls us to a closer and more intimate relationship by setting aside the false beliefs we have inherited through the years. I am sure this work may garner wringing of hands by some in the extremist movements; however, at its core, Ruiz embraces the highest and the best of world religions and calls us to make them our own.

You'll love Coyotes after reading this book........2004-09-29
I really loved this book. I bought it because I was doing research on Coyotes for a novel I was writing, and I thought I would skim this, but I read it word for word instead. Perhaps because I already had an interest in coyotes, but I came home every night looking forward to reading more. If you love animals, you'll love this book. Well written, easy to ready, interesting stories, etc.

Pretty cool! .......2007-10-02
I'm using this for my French classes and these teenagers love it! Interesting little supplement for daily inclusion in language acquisition for the eager French student.
OK book, small and handy, might be good for off-the-beaten tracks in France........2007-05-20
Bought this just before going to Paris for a holiday. Did not use it - as Parisians are really nice and were better at understanding English then we are at French. If I had to buy a phrase book again would buy one with better organization and presentation like the ones from Dorling Kindersley.
Basic Franch Survival.......2007-05-17
I just returned from my first trip to France, and found this phrasebook very helpful. The sections were well thought out, and pronunciation guides allowed me to be understood, at least most of the time. Also useful in this guide were tips on how to negotiate French culture. I would have found a small English-French dictionary a good addition, for words not covered in this fairly basic book. However, I was able to shop, talk with hotel staff, dine and even get my eyeglassses fixed using this guide. I would definitely recommend it for those with litle or no
French language skills.
getting around france.......2007-05-16
this little book is nicely layed out. Has everything a foreign traveler needs to speak conversational French. Nice and small for the pocket, yet packed with easy-to-find phrases and translations.
There's a much better phrase book available.......2007-03-27
After 2 weeks in Paris with this book in hand, all I can say is "what a disappoinment!" I bought this book based on other customer's online reviews, while my husband went to the bookstore, and carefully chose "Lonely Planet" French Phrasebook French: Lonely Planet Phrasebook. The difference was not subtle. The Lonely Planet version is beautifully color coded, for easy navigation, while Mr. Steve's book is simple black and white. Lonely Planet is a tiny bit thicker, but is overall smaller in size (nice for your pocket).
Mr. Steve's provides a small dictionary, lost somewhere in the middle of the book, with no indication of gender, and no assistance whatsoever with pronuncation of said words. The dictionary portion of this book alone, made the guide a complete waste in my estimation.
In addition, if I needed to find a word such as "expensive", it was not in the dictionary portion of the book at all. I assume this is because it was listed in the phrase section under "Le Yin et le Yang". By the time you figure out what section a word might be in, the tour bus has loaded, and departed for it's next destination!
Lonely Planet, and Rick Steve's book are the same price. Don't waste your money on this one!
btw: No, I don't work for Lonely Planet!

If you're planning your Continental tour, or just heading Europewards and letting the winds of fate waft you this way and that, you'll want some language assistance, preferably in a form that doesn't require an extra set of luggage. Rick Steves, noted Europe expert and writer of candid, accurate, and entertaining guide books, has a phrase book and dictionary that contains the three major languages you're likely to encounter in ramble around Europe or a trek in the Alps.
For each of the three languages, there are chapters on basic survival phrases, numbers, money, and time, transportation, sleeping, and eating, plus activities such as sightseeing, shopping, and nightlife. There are also sections on phoning and mailing, health and emergencies, and making small talk--including the essential section on animal noises (because what's woof woof to you is ouah ouah to the French, bau bau to Italians, and wuff wuff in German). There are also lists of the animal noises made by humans (also known as profanity) so you can enjoy the linguistic color as the man next to you drops his fragile souvenir, or swear like a Roman when you stub your toe in the Coliseum.
The menu decoders are quite useful, and, despite the book's small size, it covers most contingencies--from bartering over hotel-room prices to rental-car considerations, interpreting train schedules to discussing medical conditions such as constipation and diarrhea, hemorrhoids and indigestion, body odor and the giggles. The dictionary in the back shows the English, French, Italian, and German for each of 1,200 words, and there's an appendix of useful information, including the European phone numbers for various calling-card operators as well as their international access codes and country codes, a chart of monthly temperatures for each country and a metric conversion table, as well as tongue twisters in French, German, and Italian, to while away the train-travel hours and impress your compartment mates with your willingness to launch into their language and dare to sound like a fool. --Stephanie Gold

Flip to the section on Love.......2007-05-07
Any book that tells you how to say "May i give you a back massage" and "I dont have any diseases" in three different languages is definatly worth buying it. Also it has the basics and maybe the more useful phrases like "where is the bathroom" "check please" and the like.
Got me through Europe.......2007-03-10
I bought this book because of the reviews I read and it lived up to the hype. It came in handy in both routine and emergency situations - particularly when I had left my passport, money and credit cards on a train in Italy and had to communicate to the stationmaster in Genoa!
Handy & Portable.......2007-01-06
This books is great. It has many handy phrases that make traveling in Europe easier. Contrary to what most people believe, not everyone in other countries speak English. If you are the adventurous type and like to explore on your own, knowing some phrases to navigate the area is really useful.
I purchased additional copies of this book for a few friends that were traveling as well.
I'm glad I bought this book BEFORE going to Europe.......2006-07-10
This book is full of practical advice and essential information that kept me from making some mistakes on our vaction this summer. Though I probably won't return to Europe for a few years, this book will stay in my bookshelves for future reference. I have always enjoyed Rick Steves' travel shows because of his down-to-earth, straight-forward style. The book follows that pattern perfectly. I highly recommend this book to any European travel novice.
AWESOME!.......2005-06-29
This is one of my best purchases in Amazon, it's amazing how good is this book. It's very practical for any traveler around the world, it has detailed content in subjects like: what to tell to italian men if they are bothering you (and as a woman... this can become very handy!) or everything you need to say in a medical emergency or how to enjoy the food in a restaurant (because you can understand now the menu). I really recommend this book if you are looking for a better experience in your trips or if you are learning a foreign language (like me). Greetings from Mexico. Nayeli

Uprooted from her typically midwestern dwellings in Chicago, Thayer Abbott must start a new life in the minisclule town on the Oregon coast with her father. Customer Reviews:
Wild Abandon.......2001-05-31
Wild Abandon, Welcome To God's Palm begins with Thayer Abbott and her father moving from their old home in Chicago to the strangely "perfect" town of Abandon, Oregon. Thayer is still getting over her mother's death, so she doesn't like the idea of moving at all. Soon after Thayer moves in, she meets Park, a girl her age who shows her the ropes of the new town. Things get interesting when Thayer meets Amslyn, the "leader" of the popular group in Abandon-you know, there is one at every high school. Through the people, places, and strange happenings in the town of Abandon, Thayer comes to terms with herself and her new life. I ordered this book by accident, but decided to give it a try. As it turns out, this was one of my favorites! Also, it keeps you interested and is very exciting, but it's age appropriate, too. Anyone over the age of eleven would understand and enjoy this book. It is different from most books, but it hits a sweet place as you're reading it. In fact, I'm getting ready to order the next book in the series....
An Excellent Teaching Tool.......2000-04-15
As a teacher of the seventh grade, I have found that the story's subtle emphasis of honoring oneself verses conformity to be an exceptionally effective theme for discussion with my students. This book entices the imagination in ways that I had forgotten even existed. My students and I were sorry for the story to end, and wanted to stay in Abandon to see what would happen next! I will definitely use the whole series in my classroom curriculum.
Top of my list!.......2000-02-27
The characters in Wild Abandon are totally cool, I really liked Park. I'm a fan for life!
An Amazing Adventure.......2000-02-23
This book is full of imagination, magical moments, and the most interesting details. Extremely well written and very fun to read. I really enjoyed Wild Abandon and think of it often!
