Very Helpful Trail Guide.......2007-06-25
Best Easy Day Hikes for Glacier and Waterton Lakes National Parks is a bit misleading as a title. While there are easy hikes, some are far from it. For example, one hike is nine miles long with a 1200-foot climb while another is over 14 miles long. Fortunately, the distances and elevation changes are clearly marked in the description so it is easy to select those you are willing and able to tackle while leaving the others for the more adventurous. There are also maps for each hike but it sometimes took me a while to use them. The actual trail wasn't always well defined within the larger area portrayed on the map and I often found the trailheads especially difficult to spot. It was not a major problem as I always worked it out in the end but it is an area that could use a bit of improvement.
There are 28 hikes listed and they are broken down into 5 geographic areas of the two parks. My wife and I did 2-3 hikes from each area and found the descriptions to be both helpful and largely accurate. The book is small enough to easily fit in a hip pocket and held up very well during a full week of heavy usage. Color photos would have been a nice addition but that would have made the book both larger and heavier which is not ideal for a pocket guide. Overall, this was a great purchase at an extremely reasonable price.
Very Good for the Money.......1999-12-12
Its construction is not as durable as one would like for a reference to carry with you while hiking, but what can one expect for that small an asking price? However, the descriptions and maps for each hike are easy to understand--even for the novice hiker. 25 easy hikes are included in the book, with distance, degree of difficulty, time required, and elevation change included. There are no pictures in the book, but still its very well done.

I would like to purchase the "I Hope You Dance" journal (ISBN: 1-4016-0030-1). However, I'm hardpressed not to. The reason: Why should I pay 14.99 when the back cover price sticker states USA 12.99? I purchased my first journal, from K Mart, for 12.99. What can Amazon do for me?

I purchased this journal for my daughter as a college graduation gift. As you open the first page of the journal, the authors give clear instructions for personalizing the journal with a photo. There is actually a square window opening on the front cover that allows the photograph to show through (photo corners included). You are then greeted with the beautiful lyrics of the song, "I Hope You Dance." On the following page, the author then encourages the recipient of this journal to begin their own life journey and write on the blank pages in this book. I was so drawn to the words of the song that I had to purchase this journal for my daughter. A great gift that I highly recommend!!!

The book is just a collection of very short stories written by Jack Jefford describing many of his adventures in Alaska. He lived a life very few of us could imagine, and it is mildly entertaining, but it comes across a bit too quaint. Only a die hard pilot and reader can enjoy this book, even though it is a very quick and easy read.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER ride behind a semi. You are behind eight retreads. If one of them shreds your trip is over. The hailstorm of rubber and wire that hits you in the face will be the end of it. I have crossed country both ways from California to Key West, from San Diego to Yellowstone, Montana. I almost got it from a semi tread less than fifty miles from home in Ohio.

I found this book easy & extremely enjoyable to read. Being owners of a Goldwing, my wife & I are planning a similar trip. This book has help me, through very detailed descriptions of route and sights,to get a better idea of the path we would like to take. A quick, easy, dreambuilding travelogue.......1998-11-07
I found Gary's book an easy read. Although I've never ridden a big bike, I have traveled around the country in an open Jeep and could relate to his concerns about the weather, traffic, vehicle reliability and the like. His book got me to dreaming and planning my own "Grand Adventure"!

The book not only describes the author's ride through all the lower 48 on his Goldwing but it's also a good reference with highways traveled, sights seen, items to bring, & telephone numbers for state tourist info. A fast trip & a fast read. For those with wonderlust & imagination.

This is the first in collection of books about a young girl who finds herself at an Angel Academy after she dies in accident not long after her 12th birthday. Beeing a trainee Angel isn't what Mel Beeby expected from life...er death that is. She still misses her mother and younger sister and she isn't sure at first if she's cut out for the duties of an Angel, duties which include Time Travel and helping people when they need it most back on earth. Also being an Angel can be dangerous work, there are the "others" the [bad] ones who try to thwart the work of the Angels and there are other distractions too in the guise of good looking boy Angels who go by the name of Orlando.
This is a great book for a pre-teen or early teen reader. I wouldn't be surprised if this book and its equally good sequels were eventually made into a TV series. A quality fun read for all those kids who like a fantasy read that sparkles from page to page.
