      1 out of 5 stars Misinformed! .......2007-08-28

Although the auther gives some good insight on what your show should or should not be, he completely misinformes you in reference to "sending out your material everywhere!" I contacted quite a few production companies AND agencies and they all don't accept non-solicited material due to legal reasons. What the author SHOULD have done is tell you how you're supposed to network with agents so that you can find one to represent you at the studios. I'm incredibly dissapointed, but not discouraged.

5 out of 5 stars PITCHING HOLLYWOOD BOOK REVIEW.......2006-11-10

VERY INFORMATIVE BOOK, GREAT FOR THE BEGINNER. REALLY VALUED THE INFORMATION CONTAINED INSIDE. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE WHO ASPIRES TO START WRITING AND SUBMITTING SCRIPTS AND TREATMENTS TO HOLLYWOOD. THIS BOOK WILL TEACH YOU FORMATTING TECHNIQUES THAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUBMIT A PROPER TREATMENT TO HOLLYWOOD.

2 out of 5 stars Not Worth It - The title should be changed. .......2005-04-28

This book has a lot of information on concepts and treatments. It does not go into the details of the technique of a pitch. It is very encouraging, but with reagrds to the actual pitch they wrote,"the energy of a pitch can't be written" or something to that effect. I would have appreciated an outline or something. They provide general info like be on time, make it brief, etc... Wow, insightful!

5 out of 5 stars A guide to navigating the market for movie writing.......2004-11-09

Written by two accomplished producers, Jonathan Koch and Robert Kosberg with the additional assistance of Tanya Meurer Norman, Pitching Hollywood: How to Sell Your TV and Movie Ideas is a no-nonsense guide to navigating the competitive and treacherous market for movie writing. From learning how to create a great idea, to what goes into a good pitch, how long a pitch should be, how to protect one's idea, when a full screenplay is better than just an idea, how pitching a movie differs from pitching a TV show, and much more, Pitching Hollywood is an absolute "must-have" for anyone seriously dedicated to selling one's ideas and writings, and highly recommended for anyone considering movie/TV writing as a career. The sales tips, tricks, and techniques, while of course tailored for the world of TV and movies, also include a lot of solid general information valuable for learning to pitch anything to anyone, making Pitching Hollywood an all-around valuable read.

3 out of 5 stars Beware, folks, you can't protect ideas........2004-07-02

Though this book contains some good info on how to pitch, you really must be aware that ideas can easily be stolen, or "given" to other writers and there is no copyright protection for ideas. You are better off writing a complete script, even on spec, and getting it registered than just giving your ideas away.

5 out of 5 stars A Good Book for Everybody...Not just High School Kids.......2007-06-05

I wouldn't go as far as saying you can find most of the information in this book on the website. That's not the case at all. You can find a little bit of the information from this book ont the website but not very much. This book presents the pitching information in a very simple format making it very easy to find whatever you are looking for. It includes drills to correct many of the problems pitchers now-a-days are having. It is a very good book, and it's probably the best pitching book to date. Tom House is a very reputable source and is called by some the "pitching guru." If you are a coach, a player, a curious parent, or a student of the game/pitching, you'll want this book.

5 out of 5 stars Great Pitching Instruction.......2007-05-13

Book gives technical background, instruction, and drills for pitchers. This is a must book for any pitcher.

4 out of 5 stars A good book for high school pitchers.......2007-03-01

The A&S of Pitching offers up a nice mix of information on pitching mechanics, functional strength, drills, and nutrition. Tom House fans and members of his National Pitching Association probably are not going to find any new "ground breaking" material in this book. Much of what's here also is on the NPA website -- and in House's other books on pitching (he's got at least six of them). Yet, this still is beneficial for intermediate skill level coaches, parents, and players - particularly high schoolers.

      5 out of 5 stars Great Drills.......2006-08-07

This book has a good breakdown of the landmarks of proper hitting mechanics. It also provides great drills and a practice plan to learn to pitch using those mechanics.

      Book Description

Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver is the acknowledged master of both the psychology and the technique of making a living at the corners of the plate. The Art of Pitching, a product of Seaver's twenty-one years of expertise on the mound, details what it takes to get to the top -- and stay there -- in terms of conditioning, mechanics, and concentration.

Beginning with the absolutes of pitching preparation, Seaver describes how to get your body in shape to pitch with an exercise regimen specifically designed to prevent rotator cuff injury and to establish the full range of motion critical to pitching success. He explains the basic principles of pitching mechanics, and then analyzes specific pitches and their effectiveness in different game situations with the help of Nolan Ryan on the fastball, Steve Carlton on the slider, Steve Rogers on the sinker, and Mario Soto on the change-up. A firm believer in the pitcher's role as fifth infielder, Seaver devotes a chapter to defense that includes developing good pickoff moves. Finally, he offers a unique pitch-by-pitch analysis of a game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Sport magazine has said of Seaver, "Future pitching textbooks will be based on his career. He is his own best pitching coach." Now, with The Art of Pitching, he can be yours too.

3 out of 5 stars The last chapter is the star here.......2003-01-09

Seaver gives a training program for an aspiring or experienced pitcher from A to Z.

The best parts of this book are the beginning and the end: He describes workouts at the beginning of the book, some of which I have used, but even better is his "join me" chapter at the end of the book. In this chapter, he takes the reader with him in a game against the Cards, shows how he pitched, complete with a chart, and shares with us his thought processes during the game. This last chapter was worth a star by itself.

However, there is one critical fatal flaw in the book: He did not describe what makes a pitch move (ball rotation and rotational direction).

I am a softball pitcher, and these chapters helped me as well.

2 out of 5 stars Good for its time but now sadly dated.......2001-08-31

Just because someone is a great pitcher does not necessarily make them a good coach. What many athletes say they are doing and what they in fact intuitively do are often quite different. Similarly what the eye thinks it is seeing and what pitchers actually do are also quite different. The ideas in this book have been largely refuted by newer scientific research using computer analysis and high speed video playback analysis. I am amazed that a book could still be in publication that continues to advocate the "dip and drive" hypothesis, and the idea that the glove arm should drive down. If followed literally this is the sort of misguided information with which coaches can ruin a good pitching talent, or even cause serious injury.
The book was good for its time but is now superceeded by more scientifically based ideas such as those advocated by Tom House.

The only interesting aspects of the book are those related to how to throw the curveball and change-up pitches. However the didactic lecture about the first and second most important pitches being the fastball was pendantic to a fault.

4 out of 5 stars A great reference that should be completed later-on.......2000-09-04

It was my first book on pitching many years ago. Here is my conclusion as compared to other books. 3 points : 1) A balanced physical preparation is emphasized. The small weight training is explained and shown even if it is now commonplace in every pitcher program. 2) The description of fastball, curve and grip biomechanic... is far superior to and more complete than anything I have seen since then. More important, experiment is emphasized with great method. 3) Tom Seaver approaches the mechanic of pitching on a two-fold way : first it breaks classicaly the motion, giving a lot of tips and second it fills it with piching absolutes that give a frame for players and coaches. This principle of a limited number of biomechanical absolutes that rules the motion is now emphasized for instance by Tom House. However, this book remains insufficient on practice examples in term of quantification over a season, on tools to evaluate a pitcher and its improvement. A lot of live examples are given on pitching strategy but a summary table depending on the count and/or the hitter weaknesses would have been more useful. I think the same for pitching preparation (amount of aerobic exercices, abdominal training....?) where criterias on age and weight, on pitching volume, would have helped establish a program. A book to read as well as a pitcher or as a manager, not a practical tool for a pitching coach program.

5 out of 5 stars Essential for Every Pitching Coach.......1999-12-26

Tom Seaver completely breaks down the technical aspects of pitching. I've used the techniques explained in the book to improve little league players I have coached resulting in success.

I was getting a book to try to teach my daughter, 10, to pitch. This book was very helpful. It broke the whole process of pitching down into steps that were managable to learn. She had a positive experience with it. It also goes on to more difficult tasks after you master some of the most basic maneuvers. There are drills at the back to work specific parts of the pitch. I highly recommend this book.

              Book Description

This unique study focuses upon a specific component of American presidential rhetoric--how presidents depict the office--and relates that rhetorical tactic to broader questions of politics, public opinion, political symbolism, and presidential power. The work analyzes this specific rhetorical component longitudinally, examining a president's depiction of the office during the presidential campaign, throughout his term in office, and after leaving office. By presenting and analyzing generous examples of presidential rhetoric--from Lyndon Johnson through Bill Clinton--Zernicke offers a revealing look at the symbolic power of the presidency and the use of that power in political terms.

Now anyone can learn a foreign language while commuting to work, running errands, or even taking a trip with the family. The new all-audio Drive Time series starts with an ingenious “On-Ramp” CD that eases language learners into Spanish, French, Italian, or Japanese with simple, practical expressions and engaging warm-up exercises. Three additional CDs contain 18 lessons that cover all of the essentials—vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and basic conversation.

Drive Time also includes a 64-page reference guide for anyone who would like to see spellings or read dialogues as a review—from the passenger seat, of course!

4 out of 5 stars learning Italian on the go.......2007-09-19

It's very good for the real beginner; the introduction is kind of boring and repetitive but it's is effective. Then it gets better and fun. I learned quite a bit.

                  5 out of 5 stars Fantastico!.......2007-07-26

So far so good, still on the first CD. It's easy to understand and great process for learning. The break down on how to pronounce the words makes it easy.

                  4 out of 5 stars Bravissimo!.......2007-07-19

I bought this CD set for my mother who wants to learn Italian, but doesn't have the time to take a class. I've listened to the CD's with her and found the lessons very easy to follow, pronounce and retain. The lessons on the CD's are broken down from Beginner to Intermediate. The booklet that accompanies the set is a great guide for reviewing what you've learned and to assist with annunciations. The speakers on the tape speak very clearly and there are alot of pauses and repetitions which allow you to really grasp the words. Also, each lesson is long enough for you to pick up a few new words, but short enough so you don't become bored. I think this is a fun purchase for beginners who want to get their feet wet with a new language.

1 out of 5 stars Not for Vacationers.......2007-07-18

As mentioned in another review, first CD is great, then "learning" triple speeds so, if you are lucky, you will catch only one or two words. Plus, vocabulary is not for travelers - you can learn how to ask if people are from Spain or China, but not how to find stations, menu items, etc. Very disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Drive Time: Italian (CD).......2007-06-27

Easy to understand native speakers. Lots of pause time to repeat and practice words and sentences.

                    Book Description

Sixteen-year-old Samantha Kelly has pinned all her hopes, and her tuition to vet school, on an Appaloosa race colt she hand raised on the family farm in Southern California. Unfortunately, when she arrives at the racetrack for the summer, she discovers that her trainer-father has lost his license and disappeared. Race trackers she has known since she was ten are giving her the cold shoulder, and a grizzled old cowboy seems to be stalking her. Join "Sam" as she struggles to solve the mystery of her father's disappearance while trying to get two-year-old Sierra Warrior ready for the all-important California-Bred Appaloosa Futurity. Meet some really interesting race track characters like Uncle Billy Norton, who used to train for movie stars and has a million stories, and get to know the teenagers - Samantha's best friend, Tracy; Sleezy Slade Lang, Samantha's arch-enemy; and his brother, Jeff, who is as nice as Slade is nasty. Best of all learn about the horses - big, beautiful and in their prime as racers. It's a whole summer at the county fair, good times and bad - what kid could wish for more!
