cliffs micro.......2007-07-31
I'm in a very fast paced micro class. Our class is only 5 weeks long and we get the same amount of info as a normal length term. This book is going to be a life saver! I'm so glad I got it. And spending the extra $1 to see it and print some pages out on line while waiting for it to come in was a huge help, too.
Horrible Product.......2005-11-30
These are great flashcards unless you actually want to learn and pass your microbiology class. Not only is the content poor, several of the cards in my pack were improperly printed with half the text cut off. No wonder they come sealed in plastic at the bookstore, if I had had the chance to look at them before I bought them i would have known better. They do work well for leveling a wobbly table though.
thank you.......2003-07-01
thank you for the fast delivery of the book.
Great reference.......2003-06-27
This book made medical microbiology much easier. I used this book for my medical microbiology class. It is easier to understand and it cut my study time because it was to the point. I also used the following:
Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (ISBN:0971999635)
The second book helped me prepare for the kind of questions on my medical microbiology tests. In fact, both these books helped me to get a 93 average in my medical microbiology class. I was recommended these two books from a friend of mine in another med school. He also got high grades on his medical microbiology exams.
flash cards were disorganized and hard to read.......2002-06-28
Although others seemed to enjoy this method of learning, I found the cards disorganized and hard to use with repeated sections. I felt it was a waste of $. I still earned an A in Microbiology but found the "Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple" much more helpful. Best of luck!

Customer Reviews:
Great for quick studying .......2007-07-08
This book was a great help in addition to my text book in Biology. It helps to compact information so I was able to pick out only the facts. This is a great tool for people who are trying to CLEP their Biology.
Very helpful........2007-01-16
I used this book to help me prepare for the PRAXIS II content knowledge test in biology (it's one of those awful standardized tests). It was generally very good at covering all of the topics necessary in a concise and easy-to-understand manner. There were occasions when I was less impressed by the way in which a topic was explained or laid out, but it is definitely a good supplement or review for someone who has other sources for learning or re-learning the material. (My main gripe was with photosynthesis.) But for a 200 page book on the vast topic of biology, it certainly did its job, and helped me pass my test.
good .......2005-09-02
The book was what I needed but I later had to find more information to complete my work. Overall the book was fine. The service, well it took forever to get here, but okay.
Great reference for college bio.......2004-08-15
This book is definitely written in a reader friendly manner. It's nice and brief. It gets right to the point without having to read the same passage over and over again. I also recommend:
The Ultimate Study Guide for Biology: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations
(Volume 1: isbn 1933023007)
(Volume 2: isbn 1933023015)
(Volume 3: isbn 1933023023)
These three study guides helped me to get excellent grades. They had the kind of questions that I got on my college biology tests. The Biology Cliff Notes made biology learning a lot faster.
Good supplement.......2003-08-31
This is a good supplement for those taking a biology class. Explains things in a nice, condensed version. Reinforces knowledge in an easy, concise manner.
Recommend to parents helping their children with their high school biology class.

Book Description
The definitive narrative history of the world's greatest sporting franchise, published to coincide with the centennial of the team. Pinstripes and pennants. Aprils and Octobers. The House That Ruth Built in the city that never sleeps. A century of greatness embodied in one city and its team. Over the past one hundred years, the New York Yankees have dominated baseball as no team has ever dominated another sport. They have won 38 pennants and 26 world championships. More often than not, they have shown just how the game is supposed to be played. Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, Mattingly, Jeter -- dozens of legendary players have worn the signature NY proudly. They have provided the very definition of a dynasty. But it hasn't always been that way, and it has never been easy. Yankees Century: 100 Years of New York Yankees Baseball chronicles the full history of this storied franchise, with the most compelling and authoritative narrative of the team ever written, more than 250 stunning photographs, and essays by some of the game's colorful scribes. Here you'll read about the unlikely scheme to build a ballpark in Manhattan atop solid rock, the magic of the Bambino rounding the bases, the stately DiMaggio taking the field, Lou Gehrig's poignant goodbye, Yogi Berra's hilarious verbal gaffes, Jack Chesbro's legendary spitball, Derek Jeter's mind-bending plays, and much more. Yankees Century takes you on an unforgettable journey through time and shows how the Bronx Bombers have managed to win again and again. More than a story of the New York Yankees, this is the saga of baseball in America. A must-have for any student of the sport, this indispensable volume is the guide to baseball greatness, a lasting record of a city and its team.
Customer Reviews:
Lots of Text.......2003-06-12
This book has lots of text -- that is a good thing! This is not a picture book, but more of a detailed history with some good photos. I enjoyed all the details and seeing some pictures that I had not seen before. Probably one of the "keepers" of the Yankees 100th craze.
Best of the Bunch.......2003-01-23
I'll have to agree with Book Magazine on this one, which named this book one of the best sports books of 2002. Of all the Yankee books out this year (and there are many), this is clearly the best, combining hundreds of stunning photographs with what is easily the most detailed and comprehensive history of this team ever written. Quite simply, it makes all the other Yankee books out there seem as if they were written for children. That's not to say this is a tough read or anything, but it is a comprehensive book that you can spend days and weeks with, and is critical when it needs to be. I also think it's the only Yankee book in recent memory that contains anything NEW - there are literally dozens of stories in here that don't appear elsewhere, like the story about why Boston sold Ruth (it's no curse SOx fans). It is particularly good with early Yankee history and the last decade, both of which are rarely written about in other books at all. There are also essays by people like Ira Berkow and Paul O'Neill's sister, just enough stats and a huge index that makes it possible to look up just about anything. This book is certain to become the definitive history for the first hundred years of the Yankee dynasty and is a must-have for Yankee fans or anyone interested in baseball history.
100% Satisfaction.......2002-10-30
I was led to this book by a recent review by Eric Neel on ESPN.com. He wrote, "It says here that 14 percent of Americans root for the Yankees and the other 86 percent root for their demise. No fence sitting ; you're in or you're out with the Yanks.
I'm sure the 14 percent have this book already and that they're reading it aloud to their kids every night before bed, wiping tears from the kids' faces, letting them know how deep and wide the Yankees history is.
If you're the other 86 percent, you ought to be reading it too. First, because there's something devilishly satisfying in reading about the early days, when the team was nearly shut out of Manhattan, playing on a sloppy, cobbled together frield with a sawamp in right. Second, because as you turn the pages you come to realize that from DiMaggio to Mantle, from Bucky Dent to Reggie to Paul O'Neill and El Duque, these guys and the things they've done (sometimes to you, sometimes in spite of you) are part of your history, part of how you remember and imagine your life. An third, because it's insanely thorough, full of details you've forgotten or never knew, and very good looking.
Stout started this series with Red Sox Century in 2000. Dodger Century is in the works. These are rich, dazzling books, standard-setters, fully-realized, complicated portraits of the ways a team and a game weave in and out of politics, history and popular culture.
O'Neill's sister contributes an essay that sums up the series appeal much better than I can: 'In our family we tell stories. We don't really Talk. We let baseball articulate the hopes and fears that we'd never consider telling each other.'"
In this case, I found the review was completely accurate. Of the spate of books out now that claim to tell the history of this team, this book, in almost 500 pages of words and photographs, is the only one up to its subject. If you don't believe me, or ESPN, I suggest you read the excerpt about the birth of the team - even hard core Yankee fans will learn something new.
Wow!.......2002-09-06
As a Giants fan I've never had much love for the Yankees, but I picked up this book for a friend after reading RED SOX CENTURY. I started flipping through it and was totally engrossed -- what Stout has done is give us the full story of this team, not just the same old stuff about their wins, the famous players, and George Steinbrenner, although that's all in here too. And the photos are just great. I'd recommend this one to any Yankees fan, as well as anyone interested in reading a good, multi-layered story about baseball.
Essential Reading for Yankee Fans.......2002-09-02
First, despite the size of this book it isn't an encyclopedia and even though there are hundreds of great pictures, it isn't really a coffee table book either or a book of mostly pictures not worth reading, although the photos are great! What it is is a serious but very readable book, the best (and longest, believe me) history of the Yanks ever written. As a SABR member I'm certain there's never been a book about the Yankees like it beofre. Their other book, Red Sox Century is supposed to be just as good. I haven't read it yet but I will now.
I heard about this one at the SABR convention, where I one of the authors gave a talk about how the Yankees really got Babe Ruth, and on ESPN, which ran a story from the book, about how the Yankees almost moved to Boston after buying the Babe, which was news to me. Now that I have read the whole book I'm not disappointed, and there are many other untold stories from beginning to end. I can't think of another Yankee book that is as complete as this one and I've read them all. It tells the history of the team in one big story instead of just writing about the World Series or Babe Ruth or Mickey Mantle. This is a book you can spend hours with and I already have (Yea, no strike, go Yanks!).
I never really knew how the Yankees were created or much about the team before Ruth, but I do now. There's all sorts of information on the early history of New York and how the city and the team helped make each other waht they are today. Instead of the same old stories over and over like most other books about the team, this book tells it like it is and how the Yankees became the Yankees. In particular, I really enjoyed the stories about the 2001 season and postseason last year, from 9/11 onward. Almost made me cry but really put it all in perspective, too.
You've just got to read this to believe it.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Literacy Resource For Teachers........2007-06-03
I learned about this book at a workshop on reading and literacy in my district last year. I checked it out from my local teaching library and after 3 renewals and a bunch of late notices later I realized I never wanted to return it! I had my own copy two days later. I use this book every week in the classroom. Mr. Gallagher developed a resource that kids can relate to because it was written in part (or at least inspired by) his students. There are 40 mini lessons that are broken down into 9 categories of why reading is important. They are very interesting and they made the kids think. I noticed as the year went on I saw many more novels and magazines appearing in my class as the year went on. Buy this book. You won't be disappointed!
Reading Reasons.......2007-01-22
Fantastic book! I'd recommend it to all elementary and English teachers. It has many useful and motivational ideas to use.
Great book for motivation for reading!.......2007-01-16
The lessons in this book are wonderful. It gives students a practical reason for reading. It is the kind of book you can read and immediately put it into practice. You don't have to sit back for weeks and figure out how to incorporate it. It's all there right in front of you. I want to hear more from Gallagher!!!
Reading Reasons by Gallagher.......2006-06-27
Reading Reasons is a great resource. It provides reasearch and lesson activities from someone who deals with students on a daily basis -- a teacher! The book is very user friendly.
a MUST for all teachers!.......2004-10-23
As a middle school Reading teacher for 14 years, I have been exposed to more theories than I can count on how to get kids to read and improve their skills. In the last few years, the focus has been on specific reading strategies--teaching them to students to help them improve their comprehension.
I see now that a major piece of the puzzle has been missing. We are so focused on teaching kids HOW to read that we have forgotten to teach them WHY they should read. Those of us who are good readers do not need any such convincing. Increasingly more students, however, do not see any value in reading and therefore do not do it, or do not do it well.
Gallagher's book outlines nine reasons WHY students need to read and read well. They are set up in the format of mini-lessons to teach directly to students. The lessons are simple and would appeal to most students. Throughout the book there is great insight, and there is also a lot of great advice for setting up a true reading-inspiring classroom.
I have shelves full of reference books on reading. This is the one I will go back to again and again.

Disappointed.......2000-07-20
I would not recommend this because it is confusing. You couldn't tell the difference between the characters and they were easy to mix up. I thought there would be something wrong with the dance. The ending wasn't what I expected.
this book rocks!.......1999-08-09
I think that this series is pretty cool. if you like Sweet Vally high check out these books!
REALLY GOOD!.......1998-03-20
But how realistic is it that Molly and Josh end up just magically saving the day? Josh with the frat house, and Molly with the punch? (Just how realistic is that?) It wasn't as good as I expected, but I liked it. It was very good. I just think that the books need to be a lot longer. The print is big, and there aren't that many pages.

This book has good evaluations of the shows that were on at the time it was published. Unfortunately, none of these shows are on anymore. Bring back Taxi dammit

all night, every nite.......2002-04-28
this is a really fun and entertaining guide to classic television. for all who consider themselves true television gourmands, this is a must read!
also, i think tom hill is hot!
I believe in Better Living Through Television!.......2000-10-01
This is a fine volume, although I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, and the Munsters hardly merit inclusion in such august company as Mary Tyler Moore, or the Bob Newhart show, and perhaps not even with WKRP, Taxi, or Kotter. But don't let that editorial error keep you from seeking out this influential work in the study of the Golden Age of Television (1970-79).
The Classic Companion.......1999-07-03
I am a BIG fan of classic, wholesome television! This book is a terrific companion--(like the title reads). The book tells everything YOU need to know about the shows you love...the ones you grew up watching. The only problem...this guide does not include some of my personal favorite shows, probably other television lovers favorites as well. But, it is a great companion anyway. I love it!

My Favorite Childhood Book.......2004-02-05
I can't remember when I have not had a copy of When the Dark Comes Dancing; my parents started reading to me from it before I can remember. I love almost all of the poems and most of the illustrations (the only reason that I took off one star is that there are one or two illustrations that scared me when I was very young). I am now in college and keep it on my bookshelf here to bring out when I am homesick. This is really a wonderful book for most children.
