The book is a great book if you have never skateboarded before or if you want to learn about it. It spends a lot of time on what it is and what it is about. The book tells about the parts and pieces of a typical skateboard.... And it also tells how to ride a skateboard, but you don't really need the book... just get on a board and ride how you feel comfortable. The book also tells about the history of skateboarding as you go along in the book. And for the trick tips section....it just has the basic stuff like an ollie and kickturns. Nothing big, just the basics are in this book.

Helpful, but method of introducting Arabic script is problematic........2007-10-18
This text is useful. It begins from the basics and proceeds at a realistically slow pace. The CD is very helpful for pronunciation. HOWEVER, one big drawback is the way the author introduces written Arabic script. Although she does not SYSTEMATICALLY introduce the script until near the END of the book, she uses the script from the very first lesson, where she blithely - overly optimistically - instructs the student to simply remember the overall SHAPE or appearance of words written in Arabic. I challenge anyone to be able to do this!!! Beyond a few words, that is. Unit exercises often present words in Arabic script only, with no Roman scipt trancription, so you really have to master reading the script to fully paricipate in the program. The solution is to jump ahead to the end of the book, and study the letters first - but you won't get much help with this - there are no graduated exercises. I do not find Arabic script "easy" (much harder than Cyrillic script, for example, although easier/faster to learn than Japanese's three concurrent scripts) and I crave more support than this book offers. (There is a companion book by same author and one other, for learning to write Arabic.)
A fun introduction to a difficult language!.......2007-04-23
This book is a valuable resource as an introduction to Arabic for someone who wants an introduction to the alphabet and some basic volabulary, grammar and phrases. It is well-designed to make learning easy and fun. It is also a great value because it comes with a CD and flashcards to help with pronunciation and script recognition.
I think a weakness of the book is the superficial treatment of script in the middle of the text. However, it is an adequate introduction, but to me learning the script would be easier with a book like The Arabic Alphabet: How to Read & Write It. This is a much more comprehensive, accessible and less intimidating exposure to learning Arabic script and it is still less than 100 pages.

This book is wonderful to start out with. It is quite large, the size of a standard notebook, so as to make it easy to write and practice in. However it does not explain to well the back ground of the Arabic language, the follow alog CD and writting exercises makes learning Arabic farely simple.

This book is packed with great recipes, even if you want to cut back or omit the ingredients that make them hot (but really, who wants to do that!). Also, many choices for vegans.
Veg Cooking That I Love!.......2003-01-19
I was brought up on 'real food' (meat and potatoes), so when I started to go veg, I ran into a problem where I didn't like what's normally considered vegetarian. I began to crave food with real substance and flavor. Browsing through my favorite bookstore one day, I came across Biker Billy's cookbook and was thrilled. I was immediately attracted by the title, I mean, a veg biker? How could I go wrong?!
I've been using recipes from this book for four years now and love it. I have a young son, so I sometimes adjust the spice and fire to a level he can tolerate. I even cook for meat-eaters from this book and no one ever misses the meat!

Bill Hufnagle. Burly biker. Fiery food lover. Cookbook author. Vegetarian. You might think you just fell down the rabbit hole, but after tasting his creations you`d know everything was going to be all right. His tongue-in-cheek cookbook will satisfy anyone who loves spicy foods, and vegetarians who want a change.
If you like spicy or downright hot foods, you'll get a kick out of this cookbook (pun intended). Flavors are bold and the body of recipes varied. Of course you'll find the standard hot items like stuffed jalapeno peppers and chili pie but there are lots of surprises to be found here as well.
For pasta fans, try "Mean Bean Meatballs" on top of your next plate of spaghetti. Vegetarians should try "Scrambled Beyond Belief", which uses extra-firm bean curd and chipotle peppers, for breakfast. Need an exciting side dish? Make "Devilish Pumpkin Fries" and watch everyone's eyes light up.
One of my most favorite recipes from this cookbook that I've made many times since, with and without the fire, are his "Chocolate Killer Cookies". This is a great and easy to prepare chocolate cookie recipe. I've made them with white chocolate chips as called for but found my favorite way is to use peanut butter chips instead. The recipe only makes 24 cookies and they will not last long. When using the cayenne pepper, they remind me of very good quality ginger snaps. Just enough bite to make your mouth tingle but not enough to make you stop eating.
For such an extraordinary cookbook it's a shame that there is no measurement given for how hot a recipe is. Something as simple as giving a mild, medium, or real hot rating for each recipe would be a major help. "Righteous Rotelle" had enough heat to make you sweat, while "Chipotle Cheese Soup" was just smoky and belly warming.
When making a few recipes I needed to make a few adjustments, which could be due to bad testing or differences in equipment. I shortened the boiling time for the asparagus in "Asparagus a la Dante" as in my first attempt they came out a bit limp after they where fried. Regardless, they were addictive.
I thoroughly enjoyed this cookbook regardless of a few annoyances and can hardly wait to try other recipes. Tonight though, I'm making more cookies!

The first time I heard of Biker Billy was on a Sunday morning on our local PBS, my husband and I watched his show. Biker Billy was in a dark basement (I think) and he was cooking. It was so strange, as usually, on cooking shows, you see these culinary experts, dressed in their culinary clothes in a well lit kitchen and cameras everywhere. This was totally the opposite. Biker Billy was wearing his trademark Biker Billy black T-shirt and dark sunglasses.
I was so surprised to find out that Biker Billy actually had a cookbook out. I bought it, when I was pregnant, more as a novelty, but opened it up and saw a very interesting person in Biker Billy.
His cookbook is vegetarian. So, if you are looking for meat, it's not here. Also, which I knew from the TV show, he uses a lot of hot peppers. AND, as his name implies, he loves to ride motorcycles.
I sampled a few of the recipes and definitely fell in love with this cookbook. My favorites are: "Kiss of the Devil Cocoa", "Hot Garbanzo Bean Patties" (AKA Falafel) and "Hot Hummus".
A great thing about this book is that he explains the peppers he is using, and how hot they are. He also lists some resources where you can purchase these peppers.
Another thing, he even talks about motorcycle safety, as motorcycle riding is one of his favorite past-times.
If you keep your eye open, you can even see him on other shows. I saw him once on Next Door With Katie Brown (it used to be on Lifetime TV). It was hysterical to see them together. She is so wide-eyed midwestern, cute and innocent, and here is Biker Billy tossing in all these peppers and she is looking shocked, but pleasantly!
Would I recommend this book? Sure! It's a great book!
A great entry into cooking with peppers.......2000-06-21
Cooking hot and spicy food is always a challenge; one man's endorphin rush is another man's journey into culinary hell.
Still, Biker Billy, no stranger to hot peppers of every variety and intensity, manages to create some of the most tasty--and mind you, HOT--dishes known to man. The best of them he's compiled into this book.
I've made several of the dishes in here (my personal favorite is Gingerbread Bikers from Hell), and the results, as seen on various friends and members of my family, are always mixed. The hotheads are always remarkably pleased; the rest will gamely take a taste and then stare at the rest of us like we have horns growing out of our heads.
If you've ever seen Biker Billy's show, you know he's a vegetarian; an OVERWEIGHT vegetarian. This is sort of hard to do, but you'll notice that while Mr. Hufnagle eschews meat, he's not shy about using cow by-products like cheese and butter. (In spicy cooking, except for Asian food, dairy is almost required; it tends to lessen the fire in peppers, and when you're dealing with habaneros and the like, dairy is a MUST. Asian cooking is another story.) That said, as long as you're not cooking with fire every day of the week, this book will provide you with some fantastic meat-free meals that will surprise you with all the flavors that the peppers help to bring out.
Biker Billy makes preparation a breeze with easy-to-understand directions, and the fun-to-read filler around the recipes proves Mr. Hufnagle to be a fine author, too. So order this book now, and the next time some unwanted visiting relative expects you to serve him blueberry pancakes, you can put a little surprise in there for him!

When I first saw this book in a store, I thought it was a grill cookbook. I read the back, saw that it was devoted to hot n' spicy cooking, and bought it on a whim. I found it to be perhaps the best cookbook I own. I usually feel that a meal isn't complete without meat, but these recipes are so flavorful and interesting that I don't miss it. The recipes range from simple to exotic and all are, in my experience, exceptional. I have recommended this book to many friends, most of whom have bought more copies to give to friends. I wholeheartedly recommend Kiss of the Devil Hot Cocoa, Blueberry Pancakes from Hell, Black Bean Burritos, and Hot Potato Corn Chowder. Trust me, they're all unique and exceptional. Thanks, Mr. Hufnagle, for sharing these recipes! Hope for a follow-up soon! ALLRIGHT!!!
