Book Description
This book is a unique guide to tell you when, where, and how to catch more than 35 varieties of sport fishes.
Customer Reviews:
How can I fish in black and white?.......2005-01-27
Good information;however, would have been nice to have the pictures in color to better id the fish.
All the critical information needed for a saltwater beginner.......1999-11-04
I have been fresh water fishing for 50+ years and am now retiring to Florida. I needed a quick start on Florida saltwater fishing and this proved to be invaluable. Very well organized to learn about all or only the species desired. I went on a back bay flats fishing outing and not only impressed the other fishermen on the boat with my knowledge of fish, technique and baits, but the guide as well. I am now ordering copies for friends who have been fishing Florida for several years because they wanted to know where they could get it. Worth more than the price.
This book covers all about Florida's game fish.......1999-04-30
This book helped improve my angling skills and helped me catch the fish I always wanted in and offshore.
Product Description
This full color 256-page book from long-time fishing legend and Florida Sportsman Magazine Sr.Editor Vic Dunaway features his 50-plus years of fishing knowledge. Each of the 231 species is illustrated with original full-color artwork from renowned marine artist Kevin R. Brant. The book answers many common questions, providing specific information about the type of fish, its range and habitat, identifying features, whether or not it is good to eat, the average and record size of each fish and the best fishing methods to catch them.
Customer Reviews:
Overall Great Book.......2006-12-24
I think the book is pretty good. The pictures are detailed and colorful, then it gives the basic lowdown on all the fish, and I really like that it gives you at least an idea of edibility. I also liked that they included a section for freshwater fish. I kind of wish it could have talked more about typical methods to catch the different fish, but I guess the book can't have everything..Overall a great book.
gr8.......2006-01-01
nice pictures,
great descriptions
Awesome Guide!.......2005-03-10
This book is an awesome guide for those who fish these waters. I just got back from a week of fishing in the Bahamas and the book was invaluable. My partner and I were able to make quick assessments on the food quality of the variety of fish we caught. We threw back the ones that were dangerous or bad for a meal. The upshot is we fed a lot of happy folks while avoiding the perils of ciguatera. Can not recommend this book enough....wish there was one just like it for California.
Outstanding.......2005-02-19
Don't know what the problem is others are having with their editions, mine's held up just fine. Of course, I leave mine on board when I dive in to spearfish, and I tend to avoid submerging it when I stay on to drop a line in the water, but even when some water has hit it, it's stayed fine. No problem. That's going on quite some time too.
That said, this is an outstanding resource. You simply cannot do wrong by getting ANY book Vic has done. I have grown up with his books, and still have his Pacific, Gulf, Fresh Water and Bait, Rigs and Tackle books in my library. They are absolutely invaluable and provide the best source of downright no-nonsense information I've ever found, this side of my father and grandfather.
Do yourselves a favor and get this without hesitation. It gets no better than these.
Great resource.......2004-12-26
This book is truly the only one of its kind for identifying sports fish in Florida waters, and provides great information. The one problem I had with the book was the same as everyone else, which is the poor quality of the binding and construction of the book. Otherwise, I recommend it to every Florida fisherman.

Customer Reviews:
Don't get fined???????.......2007-09-10
With so many restrictions and diffrent types of fish in the gulf, the last thing you want is an illegal fish. "Sport Fish of the Gulf" is on my vessel when I fish!
Essential for the emerging gulf fisherman.......2007-08-02
I enjoyed reading each and every species entry. The author is obviously a fish enthusiast when it comes to cuisine due to the fact that 90% of the animals he lists are described at the very least as 'tasty'. The illustrations are exquisite and the descriptions for each fish type are thorough. I would recommend this book for anyone new to fishing the Gulf of Mexico.
Good Book and Reference.......2003-12-24
This book is well written and nicely cross referenced. When it's not on my boat during a fishing trip, it stays in the throne room for good reading. The only complaint I have is that the author seems to think nearly every fish in the sea is tasty. Only a few of the fish in the book are labeled as "Poor" when it comes to food quality.
Best Guide To Identify Fish..........2001-11-07
If your trying to find out what is on the end of your line... I would suggest this book. It has good illustrations of many fish and a few other interesting facts about them. It also covers the whole gulf area rather than selecting a state or two. The only draw back is it doesn't include great detail on how to catch each particular fish.
Excellent Reference Guide.......2000-07-19
This book is an excellent reference guide for identifing gulf and bay fishes, and contains very little "how-to" information. Fish are separated into families. Each fish has a detailed color illustration, common name(s), and scientific name, plus a short description of each of the following categories: physical description, range, habitat, typical sizes, food value, game quality, typical tackle and bait, and a very short description of typical fishing methods. 185 fish are pictured in all, including sharks, stingrays, baitfish, and a number of other fish that may be encountered even though they are not normally thought of as sportfish.

Fly Fishing in Saltwater
ASIN: 0881504335 |
Book Description
A guide to the best saltwater fly-fishing along the popular southeast coast, from North Carolina's Outer Banks to the Florida Keys. Saltwater angling is the fastest growing segment of the fly-fishing market and the southeastern Atlantic coast is a prime destination area for saltwater anglers. Many of the game species that feed along these southeast Atlantic waters are legendary--known for their craftiness, beauty, and ability to put up a rugged fight. Anglers seek out species such as the red drum, tarpon, and spotted seatrout with an almost religious zeal. Here is a guide that directs anglers to the precise locations where these game fish are found. An introductory chapter covers the species of fish commonly sought during different seasons, where they school, how they feed, and what gear to use to catch them. Other popular game species in the southeast include redfish, striped bass, and pompano. Further chapters give detailed advice on gear selection and saltwater flies; and explain how to fish the different types of inshore waters found along the southeast coast, from ocean inlets to tidal creeks to oystershell bars. The author has augmented his decades of experience as a saltwater angler by driving 15,000 miles, wading miles of flats, and spending countless hours aboard boats to bring a particular precision to this guide. He concentrates on areas where good fishing is virtually guaranteed, access is easy, and the area is particularly scenic or uncrowded. He has made a special effort to include places that are accessible to wading or shore-bound anglers. Detailed maps of each area make trip planning easy. 50 black and white photographs, 35 maps.

Customer Reviews:
Very Helpful.......2007-08-24
This was an extremely helpful book and it's not bulky. I definitely recommend it.
Some Good Advice, Mostly Hype.......2007-05-26
When my fiancee and I first started planning our wedding, we heard about this book and purchased a copy because of its popularity and mention in magazines and elsewhere. While there is some good advice, it's not the must-have some people say and it's heavily tied into the web site too, which is just more of a time drain. I think much of the material could be condensed into fewer pages and more focused advice. You won't regret buying it, but nor will it make your planning much easier IMO.
Engagement Gift.......2007-05-07
Bought this item as an engagement gift for the daughter of a friend. She is someone that really enjoys being organized and this book has definitely helped her in planning the wedding.
Don't get married without it!.......2007-03-26
This was a great resource - explained everything you may want to consider or don't even know to ask regarding weddings. Very informative & easy to read & had great ideas from ettiquette and budgeting to options. Loved the website as well from the Knot & found this a great companion. Highly reccomend to anyone getting married - great engagement gift!
Pretty Darn Informative.......2007-03-22
Touched on it all. Definitely a How To with details. It answered many questions not just for one kind of bride but for brides of all kinds. I thought the least helpful were the personal accounts, more touchy feely than helpful. Their website is the best and this does supplement the website with more detail.

Book Description
Set in the tension-filled Deep South in the 1960's, "Made or Broken" follows a group of young men on their experiences at the notorious Graves Springs football camp.Lightle vividly describes how players came to endure the two weeks of humiliation and abuse in the rich swampland of Southwest Georgia through mutual support and comraderie.

Made or Broken Gotta Have It.......2003-03-03
As a kid we just wanted to play ball. We didn't care what color the guy beside us was. We didn't realize all that was going on outside of our little world in those trying and changing times. I look back now and see what our parents went through, but in that stadium on Friday nights they cheered for Orange and Green!
As I read this book I realized what a difference in my life Graves Springs and sports in general made. "Made or Broken" reminded me of the many Fourth and Ones that life deals you on a daily basis.
I laughed and I cried while reading. This book is a must read not only if you are familiar with Southern Football Tradition, but if you are interested in the flavor of the times in the Old South.
The mystique of the Southern Male.......2003-02-05
I grew up in Pennsylvania and have lived in South Georgia the last 26 years. This book illustrates as well as anything how the South has managed to produce such a disproportionate number of young men who have answered the call of the nation and made the ultimate sacrifice for their country in times of national crisis. More than just a football book- actually, very little is about football- it tells the tale of young men molded by shared hardship and miserable conditions in the woods of South Georgia. Racial strife in the outside world is handled differently here, where young black men and young white men had to put aside their predispositions (a kinder word than prejudice) and learn to judge others by standards that did not include race. This book is a worthwhile addition to any personal library of works that deal with history and social progress in the New South.
A different kind of summer camp.......2003-02-05
I didn't grow up in South Georgia, but I've lived here for over 25 years, and Mr. Lightle's book is one of the best pieces of work I've seen which explains some of the mystique of Southern males. This area of the country has given a disproportionate number of its youth to the military, and you can see why when you read about the kind of qualities fostered in summer football camps in South Georgia. The story encompasses comradery, the shared misery, the eventual acceptance of other young men without regard to background or race: of course, the racial integration of the football camp was a major component of the story. This book is a must read for the history of the area and the South in general.
"A True Treasure".......2003-01-31
...Years later, the memories are still with me about Graves Springs (football camp) - some good, and some not so good. Bill Lightle's memories are a true treasure of that hallowed ground called Graves Springs.
