What can you expect from a book? Ok its difficult sometimes to envisage what is meant sometimes, but perseverance is the only thing that separates the has, from the has nots of this world. If you want to develop good hand and foot speed and leave the opposition thinking "when did that takedown happen" then you need to jump rope every day, and this book is where it can start from. A+ excellent...

Buddy Lee's Jump Rope Training is a very enriching work dispelling the misconceptions of rope jumping and revealing its incredible secrets.The quality of the work results in its combination of solid scientific and physical education explanations,clear technical details,prominent figures' testimonials,and Lee's own testimonial.In the preface Lee presents the interesting and touching story of his life as well as his successful olympic athlete path in order to disclose to the reader the important role jump rope can play in the existence of many.The book provides explanations and programs for people of all fitness levels and ages,transforming jump rope into an easy and motivating exercise for everyone.Although someone may think a book on such topic could be boring and superficial,Lee creates a work interesting to read and very insightful.A great experience!

A helpful guide..........2004-05-09

Ever read someone's CV or résumé? That's how Buddy Lee's book starts out, unfortunately. He describes, in moderate detail, the different high-level atheletes who have used his system in their training regimen as a way of demonstrating the benefit and versatility of the jump rope for aerobic and anaerobic training. While Lee himself is unquestionably an accomplished athlete and one of the world's best rope jumpers, this presentation of testamonials sometimes borders on self-aggrandizement and self-promotion (of his line of high-speed ropes, which I do recommend, by the way).

Be this as it may, the book is a wonderful introduction to various jump rope techniques for the purpose of improving general fitness and athletic performance. The first half of the book works on mastering basic and advanced jump-rope techniques. The details of your practices at this stage are left largely up to you, although Lee provides some recommendations. In the main section of the book, Lee describes in detail various conditioning program aimed at increasing endurance and performance, and specifically one's Quickness (reaction time), Speed, Agility and Explosiveness (strength/power). The book concludes with a brief presentation of sport-specific recommendations.

In summary, Buddy Lee's book is an excellent presentation of various jump rope techniques for athletes and novices alike. Jumping rope remains a time-proven method for increasing performance and endurance in all sports, not to mention general cardiovascular health. Anyone who dismisses the jump rope as an unnecessary or 'inferior' method of training is truly doing himself a disservice. So buy a high-quality jump rope ( <$35) and, in the words of Buddy Lee, "Get a jump on your training!"

Great Motivation.......2003-12-11

Buddy Lee gives great motivation to use a jump rope to get in shape: agility, quickness and balance, verified by olympic athletes and others using the program. The book was easy to follow and has great pictures and descriptions. The workout plans are well thought-out. I learned the basic techniques well enough in a few days to get a great work-out with very little frustration.

To start with:
1: The previous reviewer misread the backcover summary: it says "That you will need other equipment: chairs, groceries...) to create a fitness program. This is necessary for total fitness.
2: There could be more in this book but there isn't. There is the Buddy Lee book that has more like: the biomechanics of rope jumping.
Or Ropesport which also has DVD's which are a boon because you can see and hear how to do various jumps.

I think the title "Getting a Jump on Fitness" and the back cover summary are both misleading.

This book is 155 pages long, containing approximately 170 photos on fitness exercises. Of the 170 photos, approximately 30 are about rope jumping.

I am new to rope jumping for fitness, and was looking for steps, techniques, and rope jumping fitness routines. I didn't find what I was looking for in this book (as I did with "Jumping Rope the Second Time Around" by Carlos Coffman).

terrific blazing romantic suspense thriller.......2006-09-09

When Dr. Brett Thornton invented an antiaging formula, he did not expect the uproar that would cause though he should know better with the American capitalist market emphasis on youth or the demand on his time from companies wanting to own his product. Unable to cope with the pressure, Brett decides he needs to escape where no one in their right mind would follow him. He flees to the Andes in Peru so that he can spend quiet time as a tourist and decide what to do with his elixir.

Instead of preparing for her sister's upcoming wedding, Kayla Watson is heading to Peru disguised as a tourist traveling the Andres Mountains. Outraged but with no choice if she wants to remain employed her boss Nelson has sent her to keep an eye on Brett to insure he does not sell his formula while in South America. Her instructions are to use any dirty trick she must even her body to keep the scientist from selling. However, she does not need to fake her desires as Kayla finds herself in heat as she lusts after Brett although exhausted from the mountainous trek. As she falls in love, she fears her beloved will dump her once he learns who she is and why she is on tour.

Jacquie D'Alessandro is at her best with this terrific blazing romantic suspense thriller high in the Andes. The action-packed story line never slows down from the onset when Brett's creation becomes known until a distressed Kayla risks all for the scientist she loves. Fans will appreciate their relationship built originally on distrust and love as the heroine knows she must reveal why she is on tour, but fears her beloved will dump her. Kayla's concerns changed from job security to mate security in a refreshing setting that makes for a fun contemporary tale.

Light reading at its best.......2005-08-05

I truly did enjoy this novel. It is the first I have read by Ms Markey , and it held my attention.

I don't like to give away the plot in my reviews, so I will simply say, this is a fun book. There are some twists and turns I did not expect . I found her writing style to flow and I read this book in 3 days.

Yes, some parts were truly unbelievable, but isn't that what fiction is all about??

High cringe factor for me.......2005-04-26

I really enjoyed her "The Daddy Clock" but this effort was all kinds of wrong. Yes the narrative and the dialog are snappy in parts, but the monumental duplicity that is exercised in this novel really made me wince. I prescribe to the concept that people have secrets and telling your loved ones about actions you've taken can cause more harm than not and hence should not be disclosed, but Kate/Karen just went overboard and the ramifications, while ultimately not catastrophic, still left me with a queasy feeling in my gut.

engaging contemporary romantic thriller .......2004-07-28

Chicago FM radio host Kate Lerner receives a letter from her former husband Richard Farley; this note is his first contact with her since he deserted her and their infant son Danny fifteen year ago. He asks to see her before he dies as he insists that he has one year to live and offers money if she does. Her ex second husband kind Professor Tim advices her not to go; her radio co-host David Weiland and her twin sister Karen say go because she needs the money to pay for the operations that her second child with Tim is undergoing.

Through a mix up in restaurant rendezvous points, they talk over cell phones. Richard asks Kate to accompany him to Italy and if she does she will receive a lot of money. She decides to go because she needs the cash, but also hides who she will meet from her teenage son, who detests his dad. A minor omission and a lie lead to other fabrications as her world begins to unravel leading to her son in trouble with the law.

The theme of this engaging contemporary romantic thriller is derived from Sir Walter Scott's "Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive" as Kate hides what she is doing from her children. Her actions lead to the troubles facing her son and Jamie, a girl his age, but this is clearly Kate's novel as fans learn first hand and from friends and family what makes her tick (and fabricate). Fans will enjoy Judy Markey's tale that focuses on "Mom Lies".

It's senior trip! Kerri, Jessica, Maya and Erin all heading off to Chicago for a week of freedom (no parents!). Kerri is psyched about entering in a modeling contest and being on good terms with her boyfriend, Matt, since they've been having no fights lately. Kerri is really happy about her and Matt, but she can't help still feeling paranoid about her boyfriend's crazy ex-girlfriend Donna, who is stalking her. Kerri is crossing her fingers about her modeling efforts, hoping she'll make it! Jessica has been feeling bummed about being single, although she IS "over" her ex, Alex. Jessica also can't help feeling like she's not living up life a little, because her friends are insinuating that she's, well, frankly being a nerd, spending too much time on school, that she's not daring enough. Jessica realizes that she DOES want to be more daring, but she never thought that she'd take it this far! This senior class trip will surely change some things for Kerri and Jessica. A really good book!.......2001-10-28

This book was a really good one. It's about the girls Senior Class trip to Chicago. There in Chicago Kerri is given a chance to start on her dream to be a model, even though doing this is against her mother's wishes. Unfortunately, throughout the book Kerri keeps having Donna sightings which makes Kerri pretty paraniod. Also, it seems that Alex is ready to forgive Jessica and start over. All in all it's a pretty good book. But I have one question why is it that in every Kerri book she and Matt seem to get into a terrible fight. I really love their relationship and I know they belong together.
