the life and death adventures in golf.......2003-04-20
Survival Rule #1 Watch Where You're Driving and that doesn't just mean at the tee off! Like all the Worst-Case Scenario Books in the series, this one has the familiar, easy to read layout with step-by-step instructions that are brief but informative. Nice how this sport edition gives a few words of advice on playing the game and explains how the official rules of golf apply in the unique situations, plus highlights a few guidelines to keeping good golf etiquette, which is all helpful for preventing confusion and heated debate among players.
The topic is divided into just a few chapters called: Bad Lies, Equipment Disasters, Dangerous Animals and Golfing Emergencies. The scenarios covered range from how to retrieve a ball lost in the ball washer, retrieve a ball from a gopher hole, how to keep score without a pencil, how to spot a cheat, disarm an irate golfer, start a dead cart, stop a runaway cart or free a cart from a sand trap. How to prevent a club from flying out of your hand and how to retrieve a golf club or golf ball lodged in a tree [they recommend wearing a hard hat to protect your head during this operation, imagine that!]. How to drive with a putter or putt with a driver, how to survive if you run out of tees, how to treat a sprained ankle, a blister, poison ivy, sunburn, heatstroke or dehydration. How to deal with a brush fire, alligator, snake, rabid animal or an attack by birds, not to mention how to deal with a fashion emergency or recognize a golf addiction. There is even a little over view on gambling bets and some translation of golfspeak. Also advice is included for avoiding lighting strikes and tornados while you're outside in open areas.
This book is a riot and the illustrations are great, they add so much and they truly are hilarious. A golfer at any level or interest will love it and even those who make fun of the sport and hate it, might find the book enjoyable too. It has an answer for nearly every golfer's nightmare, giving tips for surviving a life and death situation that probably will just end up being all par for the course.
Golfer's first aid (and second, and third...).......2003-01-30
This is THE present for someone in your neighbourhood that's always boasting about his (or her) golf relations... Seen the beautiful greeeeeen cover? Me too...
Great pick.......2002-12-09
I picked this book up for my parents as an afterthought and a joke (one avid golfer for life, mother just picking it up) and they LOVED it! Both sat down and read it straight through, laughing out loud and enjoying it. Now I wish I had saved it for the holidays!
You Can't Tell a Book by Its Cover!.......2002-06-02
When you see this book, you may think it will be a deeply discounted "remainder" in a month so why buy it? How wrong you would be! The authors cover a wide range of topics with expertise, creativity, and sometimes humor. This book will help you on the course and could actually save your life. Start to browse through it and you'll be hooked!
ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!! Even non-golfers will enjoy this one!.......2002-06-01
My husband is a mediocre (at best) golfer. This book caught my eye and after reading for just 5 minutes I was laughing so hard I nearly peed my pants! Each page just made me laugh harder. I have shared it with two girlfriends, whose husbands are also links warriors, and they laughed just as hard. I can't wait to give it to my husband and father-in-law on Father's Day. Be sure to check out the sections on "Curing Your Addiction" (complete with sketch of man sleeping with his golfclubs) and "How to Survive a Bird Attack" (with sketch of seagulls attacking golfer's head). I am telling you, this book is a complete riot! If you need a good laugh - or 30 minutes' worth- this will do the trick!

Customer Reviews:
It's a gag gift, not as practical as the original.......2005-06-23
The original Worst Case Scenario handbook was a good guide, essential for your paranoid friends. I enjoyed that one, so for some reason my family has given me all the follow-on books as gifts. None of them really compare to the original, but this one comes close in some respects.
Many of the scenarios are completely outlandish, so don't buy this looking for practical advice. Unlike the original, this isn't a book to buy your paranoid death-fearing friend. Some advice is practical, like dealing with swallowed mistletoe, driving in a blizzard, or dealing with a canceled plane flight, but it can get lost in the more outlandish, like fending off unwanted kisses, jumping from a runaway sleigh, fending off a charging reindeer, dealing with a meddling parent, etc. Some situations just don't boil down to 3 easy to follow steps and a diagram.
I do love the section on repurposing a fruitcake, though.
Enjoy this for a small laugh and pass it around amoung the adults for the holiday.
Keep it Away from the Kids.......2004-12-09
As stated in other reviews, this covers many situations with a mix of humor and practical advice. However, be forewarned that the final entry is how to handle a child asking the dread question that crosses them over from Christmas innocent to member of the vast conspiracy we adults participate in. While the answer is very well written it can cause upset and upheaval if you have a reader who hasn't caught on yet. It's a bright, shiny holiday book and the silliness attracts kids like a magnet. Beware. On the other hand, if you've been looking to broach the subject, their approach is wonderful.
Mediocre.......2004-11-16
While you won't find information on how to safely jump out of a 2 story window into a trash dumpster, you WILL find information on how to gain control of a one-horse open sleigh, how to defend yourself against a charging reindeer and how to extricate yourself or someone else who is stranded in a chimney.
Some survival tips are pure fun, like How To Repurpose A Fruitcake (doorstop, object d'art and tire block for your car are just a few), while others may actually be quite helpful in an actual situation: How To Prevent A Turkey From Exploding; How To Extinguish A Burning Turkey; and How To Treat Mistletoe (and food) Poisoning In Both People And Pets.
the REAL how-to guide on surviving holidays!.......2002-11-15
In their successful 1999 publication, "The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook", the authors Piven & Borgenicht gave us useful advice for surviving everything from a shark attack, to how to take a punch in the face with the minimum of injury. Now, as we swiftly approach the holiday season, they give us their latest work which focuses on holiday survival.
While you won't find information on how to safely jump out of a 2 story window into a trash dumpster, you WILL find information on how to gain control of a one-horse open sleigh, how to defend yourself against a charging reindeer and how to extricate yourself or someone else who is stranded in a chimney.
For the "rest of us" who aren't likely to find ourselves descending chimneys or dodging rutting male reindeer, there are LOTS of very helpful bits of advice for those things you're very LIKELY to encounter during this holiday season, including How To Wear Tight-Fitting Clothing that you've "outgrown" due to holiday eating, how to guess at what's inside a present (and how to PREVENT people who snoop on their presents!), as well as how to avoid kisses under the mistletoe and how to prevent yourself from being swept away by a marauding crowd of holiday shoppers.
Some survival tips are pure fun, like How To Repurpose A Fruitcake (doorstop, object d'art and tire block for your car are just a few), while others may actually be quite helpful in an actual situation: How To Prevent A Turkey From Exploding; How To Extinguish A Burning Turkey; and How To Treat Mistletoe (and food) Poisoning In Both People And Pets (you DID know that the berries of mistletoe are poisonous, didn't you?)
Naturally, this book is heavier on how to act in social settings (like dealing with meddlesome relatives and annoying carolers) and entertaining guests (how to open a bottle of wine with a broken cork, how to make an emergency menorah) than it is on actual dangers, but for anyone who's looking for a fun read and some practical advice, this and the other Worst-Case books are definitely worth getting! With it's festive, reflective silver cover, it's a perfect gift for the holidays as well as displaying prominently among your holiday displays. Besides, you just never know when disaster might strike, and you should always Be Prepared!! Highly recommended!
Fun, Fun, Fun.......2002-10-22
Being a big fan of the holidays, the snow, lights, decorations, etc. I decided to pick-up the newest addition to "The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook" series. And I am pleased to add, that this was definitely worth the money. The scenarios in this book are so stupid, yet so funny. They remind you of an MTV show entitled "Jack---" From tips on how to fend off a charging reindeer to how to treat a tongue stuck to a pole, you won't be disappointed.
The humor of "The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Guide: Holidays" goes on an on. You'll even find yourself rolling on the floor laughing out loud. This is a must read for everyone.

Five of the best books I own!.......2002-12-04
The Worst-Case Scenario books by Joshua Piven and David Borgenicht have gone way beyond cult status, and the set of all five is the perfect thing to get if you want an entertaining read. The ultimate coffee table books, not one person can pick one up without finding something out they didn't desparately need to know until just now.
After reading these books, one can manuever on top of a train, jump from a building into a dumpster, survive a riot, escape a runaway parade balloon, hotwire a car, get someone unstuck from a chimney, determine whether your date is an axe-murderer, and hundreds of other things.
Great for an armchair quarterback or basically anyone else who has the slightest interest in nifty things, this collection is probably the best thing I can recommend on Amazon.com. Just put them on a coffee table and watch how quickly people pick one up, and how slowly they set it back down.
If all five books is too much of a commitment for you; however, try the original (yellow) or the "Dating and Sex" (black) book. I guarantee you will love them!

Product Description
There is no psychological quick fix that magically makes you relaxed and calm under fire. Learning to play under pressure takes time and correct preparation. The good news is... When you prepare correctly, playing under pressure happens automatically. In Training for Pressure Play, you will learn to develop spontaneity through preparation! But prepare how? This CD lays everything out in a simple two-part pressure plan. Part One covers preparation in practice sessions and practice matches, and Part Two covers experience in actual match play. You will learn... * To access the correct internal feeling when playing under pressure * To play automatically and instinctively when the heat is on! * To play in the zone * To trust the feel of your strokes under pressure * To get out of your own way, relax and let the game happen How do I know the two-part pressure plan works? Simple! The principles in Training for Pressure Play are the same principles to play under pressure that I have successfully taught my students for years...it works!

This CD saved me hundreds of dollars in lessons!.......2006-02-23
I own most (if not all) of the Tom Veneziano TennisWarrior System of CDs and Books and the CD "Training For Pressure Play" is one of the best so far. I have listened to this CD many times and each time I listen, I learn something new. It's like having dozens of lessons for the price of one CD. I used a couple of the tips in one of my first matches after listening to the CD and I was shocked at just how well I played when I "got out of my own way, relaxed and let the game happen."
I have taken a lot of lessons over the years, but nothing I have run across has helped my game as much as the information on the TennisWarrior website, books, tips and CDs. This system has saved me hundreds of dollars in lessons and improved my game at the same time.

A naive viewpoint.......2001-05-25
Regrettably, this book purports to have inside knowledge of the television industry but its own content belies that assertion. Much of the material is self-indulgent, a direct reflection on both the author and members of VQT. As a television insider myself, who has had numerous run-ins with these self-proclaimed arbiters of "quality", their uninformed perspectives turn what should be a book about the strength of the little guy into a skewed narrative by a wanna-be outsider pretending to be an insider. Readers looking for true insights into the world of television are better off with another piece of material.
The Story of Viewers for Quality Television.......2000-12-06
This book tells how the television industry has failed to make quality programming a priority and what viewers may do about this. This book presents true and successful stories of how viewers banded together to demand superior television shows. This is not the story of how groups with political agendas sought to acheive their interests. It shows how viewers may praise quality and make their views known to the television industry so they will keep producing superior shows. The book's descriptions of how a few outraged people made a positive difference is enlightening. These were people upset that excellent shows such as "Cagney and Lacey", "Designing Women", "Seinfeld" and "China Beach" began with such low ratings that they were set for cancellation. It is remarkable to see how just a few people can organize many others to write television network executives and convince them to keep good TV shows. It is very rewarding to see the successes of their efforts, as these shows remained for several successful seasons. This is a great book. People interested in the television industry, case studies of successful organizing, and in reading how one person can make a difference will admire "The Story of Viewers for Quality Television".

Book Description
This is the first in-depth study of the involvement of businessmen in the campaign for Tariff Reform, the most important and pervasive political debate on British economic policy in the first three decades of the twentieth century. This book is organized around an analysis of the pressure and
propaganda groups directed, or supposedly directed, by protectionist businessmen themselves. The book includes the first in-depth investigation into the development of protectionism during the First World War, and presents a new analysis of the turbulent events of 1929-1932.

Koko and Friends: Born to Play - Destined to Win!
Manufacturer: D. W. Ink Publishing, Inc.
ProductGroup: Book
Binding: Hardcover
ASIN: 1892313006 |
Product Description
"Koko and Friends" is a series of books written for elementary school children. Too often parents are unaware of the frequent battles their children face everyday at school as their peers attempt to erode their confidence and self-esteem through insults and ridicule. Parents may even be oblivious to how cruel their children can be to other children. Children are told to ignore unkind comments other say about them. Many times they are told the old cliche: Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me. Even as adults, however, we know that words do hurt. The purpose of this book, Born to Play - Destined to Win!, is to let children know that in spite of what others say about them, they are special and can accomplish great things. Through Koko and his cousins' adventures, children can learn to have compassion for their peers in word and in deed.
Customer Reviews:
A must have...........2005-02-08
I thought that this book was great because it was interesting to find out how they got through the challenges of peer pressure. I know as a parent that children are faced with peer pressure everyday. After reading this book, it instills in a child mind that their decision is very important and to always do what is s right verses what to do to fit in with the "cool" crowd. I've read this book over and over it seems as every time I read it to my child, it boosts his self esteem about situations that he faces everyday at school. I highly recommend purchasing this book for your child. It's very educational.
An Excellent Book for Growing Children.......2004-08-21
WOW! I didn't know that this book would have as big an impact on my daughter as it has. I would definitely recommend this book to any child. When I purchased it for my five year old daughter, she didn't ever want me to stop reading it to her. Her favorite character - of course - is Sugar, because that's what her nickname is. She even took the book to school for show and tell, and all of her friends loved it. My daughter enjoys it because of the illustrations and the child-friendly story-line; however, I as a mother enjoy it because it sends a really great message to children of all ages and races. My daughter keeps asking me if anymore books from KOKO series is coming out, and I tell her of course. So, I'm asking the authors to get busy and write more! I'll be your first customer. Again, I recommend this book to anyone who has children. It's a great investment, and you'll definitely be glad that you bought it! Your children will thank you for it!
