If you dive and can't remember all the first aid you might need, get this little plastic book. It's small enough to fit in your BC pocket and sturdy enough to last forever.
It has the basics of first aid for most diving but DAN also has at least one other specialty dive first aid book.

This pocket guide is a handy reference for basic first aid - easy to read, small enough to be easily portable, and full of good basic information. The wide array of potential medical complications associated with diving are covered in understandable terms without getting too technical. Overall a great resource to have when heading to the water.

I was impressed with the water-resistant printing. However, the medical information is very basic. If you have training, this book is relatively useless. If you don't have training, I guess it would be useful if you happened to have equipment on-board. I would have liked to see more diagrams and much more information.
A must have for any diver.......2005-10-24
This little nice format book is the perfect companion on dive trips. It is even usable under water in a pocket, I have to admit I never carry it under water but you can. This means you can't destroy it with water which is my point, it always is in my dive bag. We have done scenario training to refreshen and then it is amazing how handy this little book is in those cases. I believe it would prove itself even more in a real life event.

Clear, Consise, Essential. This guide gives a no Non-Sense approach of "what to do" in the event of a diving emergency (or any emergency for that matter). Tabbed for easy reference, and covers DCI to Hyperthermia. 3x5 Size will fit anywhere you are, and It also lists DAN's Emergency Numbers for quick reference. If I was the diver in an emergency situation, I would be glad you had it.

Beautiful pictures - each page is juxtaposed visually with opposite picture on a page intertwined with a subtle theme- eg. desert sand with yellow ridge stripes is opposite of a shot of zebra - both pictures have a theme of contrasting stripes. A aesthetic wonder to behold. I just bought National Georaphic Wide Angle book and was utterly disappointed. Very nice production and excellent value buy.

This book like many picture/coffee table books has brilliant, mesmorizing photos. The book however has one lovely difference, it often has comparitive/contrasting photos on opposite pages. For example, a photo of women sitting together at an italian celebration and has a photo on the opposite side of asian women at a celebration. Providing you with the opportiunity to play what is similar, what is different. Intersperced into the photos are magnificent photos that cover two pages.

mis-translated!.......2002-01-05
I got this book hoping I could learn the language before I went on my vacation to Casablanca. What I did find out later (I wouldnt have known unless someone told me) was that some words were not ranslated properly! One of the transliterations of a word gave the Arabic word: "tarjim" which means "translate" in Arabic! Big mistake! Also, some words in the translation for a phrase were missing. I wouldnt recommend it, unless you are desperate. Plus, a lot of the books pages (which aren't many, it's a very thin book)were taken up with how to count to ten in Berber, Berber phrases, and some French phrases. If I wanted a tiny French phrasebook I would have bought one. This book is really small and a lot of it is wasted with the French and Berber stuff, and too many incorrect (moroccan)Arabic transliterations.

Note: when they say "Lonely Planet Travel Talk Thai", that means that the box includes the language tape AND the Lonely Planet Thai Phrasebook ...
The tape itself is very basic -- gives you useful words and phrases. It doesn't really explain anything about the structure or grammar of the language, particularly gendered words and conveying politeness (which are covered in the Lonely Planet book, assuming you read it). But it does get you used to Thai pronunciation & intonations, which is invaluable.

Made the trip easier..........2005-06-13
I bought a few reference guides before travelling to Tokyo last year. This was the only one that I used. The tape introduces you to general phrases that won't make you standout as such a tourist. The fold out guide that mimics the tape was my best friend on the trip. I highly recommend this over anything else that I found on the net.

300 Basic Words & Phrases, a month of pure joy using it in Vietnam.......2006-04-29
Wow! Only 300 basic words and phrases but what a wonderfully useful little guide. The audio was just right on for a beginner like me. Allowed me to hear and practice before the trip but the best part was the incredible 2x8=16 (front and back) panel folding booklet that came with the cassette. I can't tell you how many times I pulled it out of my pocket and pointed to a word to a native in Hanoi, DaNang and Saigon and was able to get a bicycle brought to me at the hotel, a tennis racket AND lessons from a pro, an improvised "tour/sightsee" by cyclo, and the most funny of all a "NAPKIN." How weird is that, they're not a paper society, they have no concept of papertowels and such amenities. Once I asked for nuo'c cai tra'i ca^y (Fruit Juice) I had all the orange, papaya, watermellon juice they could find at the open market; freshly squeezed and put in my room. We went to the market to buy stuff and I used too expensive (da' qu'a) so much and they loved it when I said this...they are very good at bargaining but are very fair, they always lower the price if you know how to say how much (Bao nhieu) Really enjoyed the trip, it made the whole vacation so much better to be able to engage in the language and they really rewarded us for trying. One complaint, I couldn't find the CD version and there's no iPOD version. It would sell like crazy if converted to digital medium and uploaded to iTunes or a server to us mp3 enable travelers. I took my iPOD everywhere and wished I had the audio in MP3 format.

This comvenient package includes a 1 hour audio cassette covering 300 essential words & phrases, a combination phrasebook / 2 way dictionary, plus an audio guide. It is a fast & easy way to learn Tagalog, to make it easier to get around and also show respect for Filipino families you visit. I recommend it to Western gentlemen courting Filipina women.

I love this book! It was very interesting and I couldn't put it down.It is about a boy named Dakota and he is half Lakota and half Irish. He is walking home from visiting the Little Bighorn battle site and gets thrown back into time. He meets the great ledgend, Sitting Bull and all of his family! Dakota is confued about his being half Lakota and half Irish and feels angry that he is mixed. He is captured by two Lakota boys and is shot with their arrow! They capture him and take him back to their camp! He trys to get aways many times but is always captured! The Lakota are very interested in him because he is not all Lakota! He proves he is good at riding a horse by the great pony race! He also participates in the great Sundance ritural and steals Crow enemy horses! He is getting to know his people and their languageand forgets to try to leave!I liked the childs eye view of life! And how he accomplishes tasks that make him grow to br a very stong and mature young man! The end is the best part but you will have to read it to find out!!!!!

The book illuminates family and belonging as well as history.......1999-07-21
In short, I loved this book. The central character is a teenager who is easy to relate to. He is caught between two cultures and his own internal conflicts as a young boy becoming a man. This might not seem like a unique theme but the atmosphere of the book combined with the historical value as we relive Little Bighorn is invaluable. I think we are always learning about how we see family and how we fit into that picture and the wisdom in this book is beautiful.
