Seeing "Higgins Clark" on the cover I accidently picked this up thinking it was her former mother-in law. Being an avid Mary Higgins Clark reader I was pleasantly surprised with the results of this book. I found it as good, if not better, than some of the more recent elder Clark's books. A fresh new edge for "clean" mystery readers.

Entertaining Thriller.......2007-05-14

For Diane Mayfield, the last few months of her life have been spent trying to keep her children, Michelle and Anthony, on an even keel. After her husband was sentenced to prison for his part in the financial upheaval of a company who cooked its books, she's been the sole parent and money-maker in a family that once had it all. Her position with KEY News as a correspondent for its Hourglass newsmagazine forces her to give up the family's vacation to the Grand Canyon and instead haul her kids and her 17-years younger sister, Emily, to the New Jersey seashore town of Ocean Grove. Her assignment? Interview Leslie Patterson, a woman who police believe "cried wolf" about her recent disappearance.

Leslie has a past that includes therapies for anorexia and harming herself physically, and the police are reluctant to take her claims seriously. Leslie states that she was abducted by an unknown attacker, and although not raped, was forced to dance with the man over a period of days before a security guard found her, bound and gagged, on the grounds of the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association. Orignally a religion-based commune type establishment, the Association meets every year on Ocean Grove's shore to spen the summer in their tents.

But as another girl disappears, both the local police and Diane start to believe that something more sinister is at work than a trouble young woman staging her own disappearance. As Diane delves deeper and deeper into the mystery, her own family becomes a target for the disturbed individuals that are harassing the tranquility of this once calm sea-side town.

Mary Jane Clark has deftly penned another entertaining thriller. Her characters are all true-to-life and believable, and will have you turning pages until you figure out the mystery.

Leslie, a young woman suffering from aneroxia had been missing for 3 days and while she claimed she was abducted and held captive the police believe that she cried wolf and faked her own disappearance. That is until a 2nd girl from Ocean Grove goes missing....

As a fan of Mary Higgins Clark I was hesitant to pick this up but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it flowed and how MJC introduces numerous suspects so that you truly are guessing until the end! A very similar writing style to MHC I enjoyed this quick read, mystery and will pick up another MJC mystery in the future.

DANCING IN THE DARK is my first book by Mary Jane Clark. I found this book to be an enjoyable, albeit lightweight, read. This is a fun, fast-paced whodunit, written in the tradition of Mary Higgins Clark or Agatha Christie. Essentially, the reader gets a great deal of suspense and mystery without any graphic language, violence, or sex.

My major problem with DANCING IN THE DARK was the sheer volume of characters, which made it difficult to keep track of who was doing what. There are some supporting characters in this story who play no meaningful role, and they should have been eliminated for the sake of simplicity. Also, like some of the other reviewers, I found it relatively easy to guess who the murderer was, which led me to be slightly disappointed by the ending.

Still, this book is smoothly written and has an exciting climax. If you're looking for a decent page-turner without any graphic sex or violence, DANCING IN THE DARK should meet your requirements. It is a relatively short novel that can be read in a single afternoon.

This was a good, quick read, although the ending is a bit disappointing.

I also thought there were an awful lot of characters to keep track of -- particularly since so many of them were suffering from anorexia and cutting. That made it seem a bit contrived.

However, if you're going to read a relative of Mary Higgins Clark, this is the one to go with -- unlike her daughter, who stinks.

Use it as a leadership metaphor.......2006-05-19

Although I have ridden and worked with horses for the last 30 years, I found this book useful as a leadership metaphor for working with volunteer organizations. With volunteers, it's difficult to motivate and get them to accept authority, because there's no military oath compelling behavior and no threat of withdrawal of pay. Likewise, with horses. Horses took no oath, and don't care if you pay them. Many successful business leaders have used martial arts texts as metaphors to succeed in business, and I have had great success with Pony Boy's methods as a leader in volunteer organizations. I am the leader of my herd, and they follow.

Classy, beautiful and worth every penny.......2005-05-21

This is a beautiful book, and it seems that it has made a few other folks out there just a bit jealous! Pony does it right, and the ten training steps are exactly the preview to his other training techniques that helped me to get started and get the amazing results and releationship that I've developed with my horse. It was nice to see a Native American man boldly share the heritage of the peoples who were here before us, and with such class and dignity. This book is like fine wine, and is always displayed on my coffee table as well as in the lobbies of several fine hotels in my area. I thought the chapter about falling off was incredible and it's about time that someone give some guidelines for this inevitable part of riding - Pony is certainly about firsts it seems and is not afraid to show all sides of horses, riding and training. See for yourself, and I highly recommend his new DVD series The Simple Truth About Horses, I have learned an incredible amount of knowledge from these detailed training DVD's! It seems that everything Pony spends time doing, he does right and now I heard he just put out a magazine for horsewomen.. Women & Horses Magazine - is there anything this man can not do????? Get this book, you'll love it.

This book is so beautiful not only in it's sensitivity toward the relationship between horse and human, but it's spiritual messages are heaven sent.
My whole life I have dreamed of this man, a true Native American Indian that has kept the traditional ways and hasn't sold out. Horses are very intelligent beings and not long ago it was rumored that they weren't. I was raised between two large horse ranches, the horse I rode the most was Apache a feisty and sweet Pinto who was a very smart tease of a horse. Horses have a very high level of intuition and emotion and get easily bored, they aren't cows. They love as deeply as humans when put in a relationship with a human that respects them as horses and allows them their freedom to be what they are and yet assist us. When you allow a horse freedom and don't force yourself on them with controlling and cruel training, you can't have a more loyal friend. This is what Gawani Pony Boy shares in depth and how to connect in ways that most humans today are completely unaware of. The photography is mind blowing. I'm proud to have this btilliant book be the only one on display on my coffee table, it lays on top of a circle of twigs made by an Indian friend.

NOTHING UNIQUE FROM ANY OTHER NATURAL HORSEMANSHIP TRAINING.......2006-12-19

I had hoped for perhaps a somewhat unique, Native American perspective on horsemanship; something a little different from othe natural horsemanship trainers selling books & dvds. But, this is the same methodology used by most all of them. It makes a pretty coffee table book, but has nothing new to offer unless this is your first foray into natural horsemanship. Basically, establishing yourself as the "Alpha" or leader, based on the well-known fact that horses want to follow a leader they trust. It emphasizes not using force or abuse & demonstrates how to control the horse's actions once you have established the basic trust/respect level required. I also viewed the dvd & was disappointed that Pony Boy used a perfectly trained horse in all his demonstrations. BORING! It's more of a pretty picture book than a useful instruction you can apply to your untrained horse. Not a book worth keeping in my horse book library.

I really enjoyed this book myself, and had to wait to read it till the kids were finished with it.....they shared it with all of their horsey friends! It was nice to see that a high quality, full color photo book was available, and the fact that this was in paperback made a great buy. Some of the most unique stories I have ever read were sprinkled throughout the text, and the design was nice for the kids, it seemed to really keep their interest. What surprised me was that they found a renewed love of their horses - which I didn't really expect! The history included in parts of the book, such as 'why Native American Indians painted their horses and what the symbols meant' was very interesting. I was thriled to hear a discussion in the other room about what these kids had learned in school about 'history' about "indians" and this book caused them to realize that there was more to the story....I am glad that this book is out there to educate as well as entertain. As a mom, I highly recommend this book for your young horse lovers - whether they own one or not. Disappointments? It could have been longer.

At tfirst I was surprised this was available, but WOW! this book by G. Pony Boy has really encouraged me to think deeper about my relationship with my horse, as well as given me a reason to spend some time with myself, which has really helped me to grow. The pictures and beautiful layout are a plus, and really guides you through a process of thought while adding your own writings - and I can add photos in here as well, a great keepsake, I am getting one for each of my horses :-)

I read the online reviews, and I was a little skeptical. But I'm telling the truth, THIS BOOK IS REALLY HELPFUL. I can't stress that enough. It's not just some dumb notebook with pictures inside (which are amazing by the way) it asks you questions that make you think about what never had occured to you before. It's not only a way to make you get to know your horse better, but it is a way to remember your horse forever if you ever for any reason have to stop riding him/her. You answer the question, and then you build on that. There's also advice and knowledge about horses within the pages. There's even a few pages that says visions, and you write your visions with you and your horse. There are so many books about horses, but finnaly this is the book that tells you about YOUR horse. You just have to fill in the lines. I am throughly enjoying this book, and think everyone should.

A lovely journal for your favorite horse lover..........2001-06-10

My husband bought me this journal for my birthday and I am quite pleased by it. It is a smaller hardbound book with the lovely photos by Gabrielle Boiselle that GaWaNi Pony Boy has used in his other books. There are lots of lined pages sprinkled with questions from Pony to jog your thoughts and provide a springboard for your writing. There is plenty of room to write comments and then come back and revisit your thinking later. It's a lavish yet practical book which can be taken to the barn and then brought home again to fill with your observations. It makes a wonderful gift for any horse lover.

This is a great journal to take to the barn, rugged hard cover, and great to sit indoors later and review! GaWaNi Pony Boy's books are so beautiful, and this one is no exception...his questions make YOU think...he doesn't just tell you about your horse...one he hasn't even met...but allows the owner to learn about their own animal. I highly recommend this to every rider who truly cares about their animal!

I really like this book...it has almost everything I was looking for in a school memories book. The only major thing that I wish it had was the plastic sleeves to include anything loose....you have to provide those yourself.

A great keepsake!.......2006-09-09

Before my daughter started kindergarten, I bought three of these books, one for each of my kids. My daughter is now in second grade, and my middle son in nursery school. I love these books. The binder format allows you to add plastic sleeves with photos or other mementos, or even remove pages you don't need/want to fill out. Another feature I like is involving my kids. For each year of school, the child draws a picture of him or herself and writes his or her "signature." I already know that in years to come I'll enjoy seeing how my kids have changed and grown! This keepsake book is perfect because it is so versatile, takes into account all of the things you'd like to record, and even changes as the years go on to reflect the different interests of growing children. I love this book, and highly recommend it!

This book has many features for preschool-5th gr, medical, birthdays, vacations, etc. It is a great layout w/binder to add more pages and plastic inserts. The book does not include plastic pockets for photos, but easily inserted. If you are interested in scrapbooking, but don't know where to start or don't want to do so much work...this book is perfect. I plan on getting the jr/sr high chronicles for 6-12th grade.

One of my favorites of the series.......2000-03-23

I really love all the fab five books, and this was no exception. I thought it was really cool how they had first-person accounts from each of the fab fivers. I loved how Jana and Taffy made up- everyone is always dissing Jana because she acts immature sometimes, but at least she realizes it and tries to mend her faults. Beth's memory was really good, too, on how she learned it's okay to be your own person. The other memories were fun to read as well, and the yearbook section was SO COOL! I wish these books were still in print so you could read it too.

Interesting memories..........1999-10-26

This was more real than most of the others books in this series. I loved the first-person accounts of each of the Fab Five. Neat how Christie actually MET Diana of Windsor. I could imagine dear Diana as she was portrayed...Diana was always so sweet & polite. The memory that captured my attention the most was Beth's. Poor Beth was sometime ridiculed because she's loud, funny, dramatic, & creative. She also has a vivid imagination to think up the basketball costume for the media club's cable show. It's too bad that the other kids didn't appreciate it, even the usually open-minded Funny & Shane. I really felt for Beth when Beth overheard two girls making fun of her in the bathroom & then later kids teased her in a mean way. Beth reminds me of Claudia Kishi & Abby Stevenson from the BSC series. Beth & Katie were my two favorite characters of the series with Christie & Mona (who reminds me of the BSC's Mary Anne Spier) not far behind. I kind of see Dekeisha & Whitney being friends with Christie, Katie, Beth in the future, maybe high school & Jana (who's still glued to her ever-devoted boyfriend Randy) & Melanie drifting away from them. I thought the little signatures were cute; it made the book look like an actual yearbook. Although many of the characters were shallow & boy & appearance-obsessed, there were some good characters in here that I would have like to see developed more in future books, namely Katie Shannon, Beth Barry, Christie Winchell, Dekeisha Adams, Whitey Larkin, Mona Vaughn, Curtis Trowbridge, & Shane Arrington.

Good Books Lost.......1999-07-09

The books in this series were the first real books that I read willingly on my own as a child. It is sad that they are no longer printed and other children will never have them to treasure forever.

I'M ONLY 12 YEARS OLD, BUT ONE THING IS FORSURE I LOVE THIS BOOK, BETSY HAYNES IS A WONDERFUL AUTHOR AND THE FABULOUS FIVE SERIES IS MY FAVOURITE. IT SHOULD DEFFINATELY BE IN PRINT. REVIEW BY: SAMANTHA HAYE
