Book Description
NATURE, a major compendium of May Swenson's poems, including ten that appeared first in this collection, draws on nearly fifty years of work. "Surely no one, scientist or poet," wrote former U.S. poet laureate Howard Nemerov, "has seen things . . . so clearly as she, and surely no one has made seeing and saying so nearly one."
Customer Reviews:
As Bountiful As Nature Itself.......2006-06-06
Swenson is a master at pithy telling of the heart and the natural world. Her poetry is so open, so enjoyable to eat. You feel how much heart and insight she has, while reveling in her brevity and images.

May Swenson.......2000-09-21
My introduction to May Swenson came when I recently met the person to whom all of her work has been bequeathed. I found May Swenson's work to be very accessible, which is not the "vogue" in poetry at the moment. Anyone can understand and be touched. Her childlike humor mixed with her sometimes profound subject matter makes this book a treasure trove of sweet, funny, heart-wrenching, fascinating poems that you'll want to flip in and out of over and over again. It has made me interested in the rest of her work and life.

Book Description
At any level of wrestling competition, the basic fundamentals are essential to success in the sport. Wrestling for Beginners gives novice wrestlers those techniques that serve as the foundation for all wrestling instruction--conditioning, maneuvers, holds, takedowns, counters, strategy, and pinning combinations. This readable and effective manual includes hundreds of stop-action photographs emphasizing proper body positions, grips, postures, and movements. There are tips on diet and nutrition, building endurance, increasing flexibility and balance, as well as specific points for mastering each of the seven basic wrestling skills. Speciac appendixes include a listing of United States Wrestling Federation weight divisions and scoring procedures and a glossary of terms. Tom Jarman, former head wrestling coach at Northwestern University, previously coached at Taylor University for 13 years, where his teams won seven conference championships and posted a 128-22 dual meet record. A two-time AII-American champion, Jarman has coached ten national place winners and one national champion. Reid Hanley is a sports writer and the author of Who's Who in Track and Field. He is winner of the 1978 Illinois Press Association award for sports writers and the 1980 Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Newsman of the Year honor.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2007-05-21
An excellent book. Especially for people who have recently begun wrestling. Has helped me to understand why posture is so important and why techniques are done the way they are. Very easy to understand and the photo's are great.
Very Good Introduction to Wrestling, Useful for Submission Grappling Too.......2007-01-17
I'm a bjj blue belt, and I bought that book in order to understand the foundation of wrestling. This is not a technique archive, it has a lot of basics, well explained and illustrated, but it aims to lay solid basics, without confusing you with tons of variations. For a comprehensive (set-ups, finishes, counters, etc.) wrestling repertoire I highly suggest the more advanced "Winning Wrestling Moves".
The price is very low, so I don't consider the cheap paper (but the binding is firm) and b/w pictures a real negative, also they are functional and do not detract from the book's content.
I train with two wrestlers, and this book helped me to understand better what they did and tried to teach me. Most of it will be useful to all submission grappling competitors that (like me) don't have a folkstyle/freestyle background.
Great book on basic wrestling skills.......2003-12-21
I've looked at a lot of grappling and wrestling books over the years, but none of then covers the basic skills as thoroughly as this one does. The book starts off by giving a history of wrestling, going all the way back to ancient times. Another beginning chapter covers the fundamentals of a wrestling training program, like dieting and the nature of excersises. Much more detail is given to the seven basic wrestling skills: stance, movement, penetration, lifting, back arching, backstep, and changing levels. Easy to follow, black and white photos give examples of both the right and wrong ways to perform these skills. The technique section is very basic, but covers most of the common skills, like the double-leg, high crotch, and head-and-arm throw for takedowns, stand-ups and sitouts in the escapes section, and half Nelson and cradles for the breakdowns/pinning section. The appendix on weight classes and scoring would be helpful to people unfamiliar with the sport, as is the rather extensive glossary. The book is easy to follow, and is essential for understanding the basics of amature wrestling. I'd recomend it to wrestlers of all levels as kind of a "back to the basics" book, to martial artists looking to expand their grappling arsenal, and to those interested in grappling for self-defense, as the throws and escapes are workable in a scuffle.
Excellent Source for First or Second Year Wrestlers..........2000-02-17
This is an excellent book for first or second year wrestlers. It's well-illustrated and descriptive in a simple manner. I'd recommend it highly to anyone whose just starting out, or to a parent of a youth or beginning wrestler.
Solid resource for beginning wrestlers.......1999-07-18
Too often, wrestling coaches and wrestling books fail to build a solid foundation for wrestlers. The athletes wind up not reaching their potential. This book avoids that problem. It teaches the athlete all the basics, without distracting him with advanced topics he is not ready to learn. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to start wrestling, and to many people who have already been into wrestling for a while.

Book Description
Canadian Children's Book Centre Our Choice, 2007
Matthew loves his art class, but he hates trying to find a way home without running into the neighbourhood bully, Big Mike. Later, as Matthew watches his favourite wrestling show, he sees a tag team dressed like artists. It gets him thinking. Maybe, if he drinks enough milk, he_ll be strong enough to become a wrestler one day. But later, as Matthew drifts off to sleep, he becomes convinced that muscles alone won_t do it - he needs a good costume! Then he can take care of Big Mike.
Before he knows it, Matthew is in the middle of another midnight adventure. He meets up with Tooloose the Wrecker, a wrestler who is looking for a partner. Before he knows it Matthew is now called Slap Dash the Masher, and he is about to enter the ring in his first tag team fight. This is no ordinary wrestling match. All the wrestlers are artists, and they have the craziest costumes. But during the main event, Matthew has to face the Masked Marvel, who looks suspiciously like someone Matthew knows_
Another wild and imaginative adventure that could only happen after bedtime, Matthew and the Midnight Wrestlers is a fun and fast-paced story for beginner readers who are ready for an early chapter book.

Disney Kids.......2005-12-16
Ummmmm.... This book was ok... The text was to simple and almost no pictures were shown. Also, nobody needs activitys in a travel book! But, it fun to read and learn about disney world.
THE VIRDICT: Check before you buy!
worth every penny.......2005-09-21
This is a really useful book, tons of tips, saved me a lot $$ and time. The most valuable thing I learn is to rent a multi-family vacation house with my friends, 16 people for $199 a day. We all enjoy the stay at a luxury emerald island resort. check this out: http://www.cyberrentals.com/index.cfm/property/126687
Helpful resource.......2005-09-06
I read this for my daughters (2 and 5) and found it helpful in deciding which rides to prioritize and which ones to avoid. It gives a kids perspective of what's dark, scary, rough or wild. It's also fun to look at the pictures with the kids although it would be nicer with more photos from Disney and fewer cartoons.
Very Very Good.......2005-09-03
I bought this book for my daughter (age 9) before our upcoming trip. She loved it and has read it over and over and is planning things she wants to do. It is a very good value and contains information the kids want to know such as if an attraction is loud, dark, wet, etc...
Perfect for children!.......2005-09-01
I loved this book and think it is great for children! I heard that it had lots of the same info as the other books, but I really liked the fact that I did not have to worry about the children messing up my book or losing it. They had their own book which spared us the frustration of trying to all share one! The pictures and text are very exciting and it has made my children even more anxious to get there! We all wish it was tomorrow!!

Book Description
In Birnbaums Walt Disney World Without Kids, the most respected and well-known name in travel guides takes adult readers through the worlds most popular tourist attraction. This book includes the most accurate information on prices and attractions. Now information listed in this edition includes the lowdown on the festivities planned to honour a century of Disney Magic. This book focuses on the resorts, attractions, restaurants, and special places that adults will most enjoy and probably never realized existed.
Customer Reviews:
Great Small Guide.......2003-09-12
I have 2 editions of the "without kids" guides. I think they're great! But I am speaking as someone who has been to Disney World multiple times in the past & is just looking for a refresher on the highlights & current info. I also really like this book for when I'm questioning whether an attraction is too childish for my husband & I, who don't have kids yet. If it's in this book, I know it's ok. :) It is a small book, which I think is great -- very easy to carry around with you at the park! On our 2 last trips, I have actually purchased both the "without kids" guidebook along with the regular Birnbaums guide, which provides more detailed information when you need it (but I don't carry that one around!).
Best Book Out there.......2003-09-06
I read some of the other reviews listed for this book. I can't believe that there are people who think that this is a waste of money, it is anything but...I go to Disney almost every year. The first thing I do every october is buy the newest version of this book. Don't get me wrong there are some other really good books out there, but this one has to be the very best by far. If you go to Disney often you realize that they are accurte about lines and times and a whole bunch of other stuff. So if you are looking for info but not to munch info. Get this book, or any of the other books they put out. I use this one and the general disney book as I am not traveling with kids.
Not worth it.......2003-03-05
First of all, I don't agree with a lot of their "don't miss", "don't overlook", and "don't knock yourself out" lists (having already been twice in years past (once as an adult) helps). Of course, the "thrill" rides are "don't miss". Not all adults can handle thrill rides, and not always because they're pregnant or have pacemakers (motion sickness and a fear of thrill rides occur in all ages). And the "Country Bear Jamboree", which is just an elaborate "Chuck E Cheeze" without the pizza, arcade, and ball pit, a "don't miss" (no offense to those who like it) and "Cinderella's Golden Carousel" a "don't knock yourself out" (carousel's aren't just for kids, and can be romantic)? I was also appaled at their thinly-veiled discouragement for staying in a cheaper resort hotel (mostly because families with kids frequent those). Even without kids, not everyone has that kind of money (most of us are lucky we can even afford admission, plane tickets, etc.). And there's really nothing else to speak of. No very detailed information, no real recomendations, no nothing! And yet Birnbaum's guide for families has much more information, something I find a little odd...
Anyway, if you're planning a Disney vacation without kids, try "Walt Disney World For Couples". It has better information, and their reccomedations go beyond the "E-ticket" attractions.
Complete waste of money, terrible!.......2003-02-24
As a regular visitor to WDW, I have been extolling the virtues of Birnbaum's guides to my friends for years. I am currently helping some friends plan their trip to WDW without kids, and recommended this guide; after they bought it, I went out and got one myself. Now I am so embarrassed I don't know what to say to them - this guide is terrible, nothing like the normal Birnbaum's guides, or the previous editions of this book.
There are many problems with this guide: just one example is the recommended tour of Epcot. They stress that "not to be missed" attractions in the World Showcase are Canada, France, the American Adventure; other countries' showcases are "not to be overlooked." I suppose if you assume that most purchasers of this book will be Americans with absolutely no sense of curiousity and adventure, and will only enjoy what they will feel "comfortable" with, then this is a good recommendation; however, most adults I know enjoy the many other countries represented in the World Showcase much more than these three "must sees," as they are more interesting and exotic. Also, they recommend making dinner reservations at Les Chefs de France, which is a perfectly good restaurant, but you can get French food in almost any city - why not the Moroccan or Norwegian restaurants? LCDF is also one of the most popular restaurants in Epcot, and difficult to get into - why set people up for disappointment?
This guide is also seriously lacking in graphics. Personally, I like a guide that shows me a photo of what they're trying to tell me about - and this guide has few. Just because it's a guide for adults doesn't mean that it has to be a novel. I could go on and on about what's wrong with this guide.
All in all, I have to give this book a big thumbs down. I will be purchasing another guide for my friends and delivering it post haste, as this one is just plain bad.
Advertisement not Objective.......2002-11-20
This book did not provide any information that was useful in making a decision. It breifly described the resorts, restraunts, and theme parks, but never made a recommendation. I am planning a trip to Disney World in 2003. We do not have kids, and wanted to plan a trip geared towards adults without kids. This book did not give a single recommendation to help with the planning.

Customer Reviews:
the kite/so colorful/it flew into the stars...(song).......2003-11-08
I thought this was an excellent book an not only a portrayal of the isolation and cruelty directed at someone who is gay but also the effect it has on that person's family. The narrator, matthew, is a likable and realistic sixth-grader, and he is not used as a shortcut--the author doesn't make him realize some great truth in an effort to end the book. Bennett's father is also a great character because we see his love for his son but also his homophobia.
I thought the editorial review above (the first one) was stupid. It rushes through the entire plot line, including the end (Gee, thanks--now I don't even have to read it!) and makes the whole book sound like a stupid joke. Please ignore it.
