Book Description
David G. Faucher shares his successful "full-participation model" of coaching youth basketball in this Baffled Parent's Guide. Faucher, the head coach of the men's basketball team at Dartmouth College, covers creating good habits, offensive skills and defensive basics, dealing with parents, first aid and safety, and game rules.
Customer Reviews:
Great Introductory Book.......2007-02-10
Covers basketball fundamentals and team coaching. Many great drills. Best suited for the younger teams - but a wonderful starting place for coaching youth basketball.
Very good book for a beginner coach.......2007-01-16
It was my first time coaching basketball. I coached 1st graders. I coached because nobody else volunteered to do it. With that in mind this book was perfect. It has all the basics you need to understand the game and it provides planned practices according to players age.
If you are ever in my situation with little knowledge of the game and forced to coach a kids team, I highly recommend this book.
Good for beginning coaches of young children.......2006-12-15
I bought 4 basketball coaching books for my husband when he signed up to coach our son's Kindergarten basketball team. He has never coached basketball before. This is the only book he wanted to keep. He uses it to come up with basic drills and general coaching tips. It's good. If you buy only one, I'd recommend this one.
A PRACTICAL AND QUICK STUDY GUIDE.......2005-01-26
I played a lot of basketball before taking on coaching my 6 year olds' team, but I had never coached. I digested the basics of this book in about an hour and it was a roadmap to get me started. I keep reading and using it as the season progresses. Very very good for first-time coaches for kids leagues of about 5-13 years old.
Only One Book Needed.......2004-12-31
I struggled looking for a book written for the experienced youth coach who doesn't know much about basketball. I coach four youth sports, but I never played organized basketball. I was at a loss for drills, plays and defensive philosophies. This book gave me a huge head start and Coach Faucher's style is easy and right for the kids. I enjoy planning and running my basketball practices far more than any other sport now. Thanks Coach Faucher. Do you have one for football, . . baseball, . . soccer??????
Book Description
The quickest way to become an experienced coach.
You thought you were going to sign your kid up for the local youth league. Now, here you are, a newly appointed coach. Part of the successful Baffled Parent's series, Coaching Youth Baseball has everything you need to manage, motivate, and encourage an eight to twelve -year-old ball team.
Written by a four-time New England Coach of the Year, it shows novice coaches exactly how to go about building skills, developing teamwork and sportsmanship, and creating an experience that both kids and coach enjoy.
Bill Thurston leaves no question unanswered. He addresses both broad organizational issues like how to get uniforms or arrange for practice time and more focused specifics like what to do at the first practice. The Baffled Parents Guide is the ultimate coaching guide for the uninformed.
Customer Reviews:
Great book on Coaching youth sports.......2006-06-02
This entire series is great for beginning to intemediate coaches. Plenty of great ideas to try on your team.
Worked for me.......2004-09-11
I bought this book after I had volunteered to coach a Pinto League (7-8 yr old) team that my son was on. This book provided a good starting point for getting organized and creating a good practice worksheet. Sound baseball fundamentals, being organized and having fun in a supportaive environment lead to a successful and happy Little League experience.
Good Starter Book.......2002-03-02
A Well Organized book, as a rookie coach last season, it gave me what I needed to know. I particularly liked the overview of safety presented up front -- too many people take this for granted and stupid injuries can result.
Be Advised though that the rest of the Baffled Parents Series doesn't necessarily live up to the standard set by this book - I found the Basketball book very average.
Baffled No More!.......2000-07-08
This was the first "Coaching" book I have purchased. The book provides excellent insight into what is truly involved in coaching a youth baseball team. The practice planner section was a big help in conducting an organized and effectice practice. I highly recommend this book to beginning coached like myself or seasoned veterans.
Customer Reviews:
A great resource!.......2001-05-22
This book met a lot of my expectations by being very portable, very well-illustrated, and full of good descriptions of the merchandise one is likely to find in London and Paris flea markets. "Antiquing" is a very visual experience for me, and having plenty of photographs to whet my appetite for the various shops was a real plus. The book was useful too in helping me plot which days to attend which markets. Even if the merchandise changes and vendors sometimes move, there is enough general information that stays constant for this to be a useful guide for several years. The two-for-one format--London and Paris in one book--is also fun. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the maps could have been better. Otherwise, a great resource!
Adventurous Shopper's Delight!.......2000-10-26
Antique and Flea Markets of London and Paris is a book serious shoppers will love. While spending several summer months in London, I have visited a number of the markets described. The authors are right on target, and the photos are enjoyable. I learned about many features I've missed, and read about several new places to try on the next trip. The book realizes that shoppers are people, not machines, and tells a little about the market's surrounding area, especially places to stop for a snack and a rest.
I'm not as familiar with Paris, but if the Paris section is even close to being as accurate and useful as the London section, it will save shopping time and hassle across the channel, as it will in London.
This is not "the" book for your trip if you need a complete guide book. If you like antiques and markets, however, you will love this book.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent off-the-track guide.......2004-10-05
I have used this book extensively on several trips to London. Excellent descriptions allow you to determine what markets will be of interest... and which to avoid. Many of the smaller markets are hard to find without a guide of some sort, and this book is small enough to carry in your back pocket. If you intend to delve deeper than the crowded tourist attractions, this guide will open a window into what London is really like.
Excellent guide to many many streets.......2000-11-10
Full of information about street markets in London, not only the world famous Portobello Road or Camden Town. When I travelled to England in 2000, I was fed up with fasionable / tourist markets, and then I found this book, which took me to some other streets to spend a ideal Saturday morning in. The author knows the excitement when you stroll down the streets filled with colourful fruit and veg, clothes, bottles of shampoo, cushions and what-you-call bric-a-blac. (Shoppers and traders are there as well as pickpockets!) He says he was led to write about street trade to see the multi-cultural / multi-racial energy at Ridley Road market in East London, and this explains a lot. This book actually guide you down to the core of those traditional street trade. Maps, transport information and where-to-park suggestions --really helpful for drivers-- and some drawings, but no glossy photographs. Thin and small enough to carry about all the time.

When love comes crashing down..........2006-06-04
At first glance, Enid Rollins may not be as vitally interesting as, say, Robin Wilson, Regina Morrow or any other character cast as the quintessential "good girl" in Sweet Valley High, and has often (unfairly) borne the label of "boring" to many readers of this series. Quiet, kind, loyal and conveniently overshadowed at the best of times by her best friend Elizabeth Wakefield (who is all these things and more), Enid's character seems all but set in stone until this dramatic adventure. At the height of her mental anguish, which is also the lowest point in her self-esteem, Enid Rollins reveals herself to us as something more than what she seems: a point of view shared by Robin Wilson, who for the first time since her own dramatic transformation in book 4, is cast as the beautiful rival for a boy's affections. Whilst readers expect Jessica Wakefield, Elizabeth's twin, to be hard-hearted and even callous towards the relationships in her life, we do not expect this of Enid Rollins. That Enid's mind can be crippled like her body is a fascinating psychological exploration into a character normally dismissed as boring or two-dimensional, and saves this story, book number 20, from becoming an otherwise routine read.
Kate Williams, author of the Sweet Valley High series, and Francine Pascal, the series' creator, could be accused of treading old and familiar ground with this book: feelings of déjà vu not incompatible with readers who explored Elizabeth's own nightmarish experiences in book number 7, are more than justifiable. But what makes Enid's own story of illness and recovery so fundamentally interesting isn't so much the trick Elizabeth plays on her, but the effect of that ploy to literally get Enid moving up and forward from the end of her relationship with George Warren. Where Elizabeth's recovery was almost accidental, Enid's is more deliberate, because more desperate. There is much more at stake here than her feelings, and more lives than her own will be affected by her ultimate decision whether to stay indefinitely in her wheelchair, forlorn and sullen, or to risk all for the chance of being able to walk again.
Crash Landing is a moving, inspirational story of heartbreak and courageousness in the face of disability, where illness is overcome by love, and where Enid Rollins, the otherwise humble heroine, is given the chance to shine her most brightly.
Enid and George? But What About Robin????.......2005-05-28
This book was great. In this book George takes Enid for a plane ride expecting to tell her the truuth that he loves someone else,Robin Wilson. But all that changes when the plane looses control and crashes leaving Enid paryalazed from saving George.George feels so so guilty. How can George tell Enid his secret? But what if Enid is keeping one to? Elizabeh knows all about George and Robin but she dosent think its not of her busniess to tell. But does she tell anyway?Jessica is at it again!Shes fallen for her cooking teacher Jean-Pierre.But when Jessica finds out the truth about her teacher how will she handle it?This book was very good and I would recomnd this to any other sweet valley fans
enjoyable.......2002-09-12
Enid is involved in a plane accident and left crippled.Soon it is clear to Liz that Enid's state of mind is the only thing stopping her from walking. Will Elizabeth get Eeny back on her feet?
I loved this book when I was younger........2001-09-13
I loved this book when I was younger and now that I am 26 and starting to buy the Sweet Valley series for my own kids (to have when they get older) I am delighted to find this one. Enid knows that George is going to break up with her and pretends to be an invalid. But soon she realizes the error of her ways and how much George's guilt is tearing him apart. I loved it then and I still love it now. Just remembering the book and how glad I was at the happy ending makes me excited to purchase it for my daughter.
An accident. Again!?.......1999-05-03
I'm sick of accidents. Liz and the motorbike was enough. But anyway, not very great book but read it if you like the series. I think Liz is boring. Without Jess this book (and the whole series) would suck!
Book Description
This unique two-disc set features an up-to-date electronic book on CD-ROM on the NASA Genesis mission, plus a DVD-VIDEO disc with nearly two hours of top-quality video of NASA coverage of the entry and subsequent unexpected crash landing of the capsule in the Utah desert in September 2004.
GENESIS MISSION: Although we have no eyewitness account of the formation of the solar system, scientists are attempting to understand what happened back then from pieces of evidence including meteorites and interstellar dust grains. An additional piece of evidence that would help in this quest for understanding is an accurate knowledge of the detailed composition of the Sun. In that quest, during August 2001, NASA launched the Genesis spacecraft. The Genesis spacecraft journeyed toward the Sun. It went to a place outside the Earth's magnetic field where the Earth and Sun gravities are balanced. While in orbit, the spacecraft bathed in solar wind that is flung out from the Sun. After 29 months in orbit, the sample collectors were re-stowed and returned to Earth. In September 2004, the capsule was supposed to be captured in mid-air by helicopter crews as it gently floated down by parachute. Unfortunately, the parachutes did not open, and the malfunction let the tumbling capsule crash into the Utah desert. NASA television coverage of the entire entry operation, including the deployment of the retrieval helicopters and a clear view of the tumbling craft hitting the dirt, is provided on the DVD-VIDEO, along with a portion of the post-landing news briefing.
As a bonus, there is complete coverage of the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft mission to explore Saturn and its moon, Titan. With its stunning rings and dozen of moons, Saturn is an intriguing planet for many reasons. Contents include nearly 500 pre-encounter image files in JPG, GIF, and TIF formats, along with 67 video clips in QuickTime and MPEG formats, with depictions of the spacecraft, instruments, launch, and mission profile.
The CD-ROM has over 9000 pages reproduced using Adobe Acrobat PDF software and Reader software is included. Advanced search and indexing features are built into Acrobat Reader, providing a complete full-text index. The Acrobat cataloging technology adds enormous value and uncommon functionality. There is no other reference that is as fast, convenient, comprehensive, and portable! The DVD-VIDEO disc, reproduced in the DVD-R format, can be played on DVD players connected to televisions.
Our CD-ROMs are privately-compiled collections of official public domain U.S. government files and documents - they are not produced by the federal government. They are designed to provide a convenient user-friendly reference work, utilizing the benefits of the Acrobat format to uniformly present thousands of pages that can be rapidly reviewed or printed without untold hours of tedious searching and downloading. This book-on-a-disc makes a superb reference work and educational tool.
