If you have logged only a handful of dives or enough to fill a log book, this book is a must read. Learning from other peoples' mistakes could quite possibly save your life, and this book is full of practical, experiential knowledge that will most certainly help you to become a better diver; more aware of the risks involved and how to avoid them. It's also a good intro for those who might be interested in learning to dive, although it quite possibly might scare folks away from the sport. Probably won't be letting my wife read it either.

If you are a diver, or are planning to be a diver, this is a great book and a quick read. Just don't expect "Gone With The Wind."
It's basically a collection of true stories of problems encountered, why they became problems and how they could have been prevented. And, many of these problems were due to pure stupidity.

Includes phisical and psicological aspects that lead to accidents in diving activities. While explaining real cases, the author also provides additional information about general diving topics. Very interesting to read. You find that you have had similar situations that have not lead to accidents but they could so.
Great Informative Diving Book - A must have!.......2007-05-15
Michael Ange writes a column in the Scuba Diving magazine called Life Lessons. For any level scuba diver, this column describes various levels of scuba diving accidents. Many of which can be avoided, but also some that cannot. The analysis of each unique situation gives us information on how not to become complacent about scuba diving.
This book has several case reports of diving accidents. Many of them result in hospitalizations or even death. This book truly will open your eyes upon scuba diving. It is a great sport and very safe, but only as safe as you prepare.
I would recommend this book to any level scuba diver so that we can all be better prepared divers.

This is my favorite of the Tiller Galloway books, and also my introduction to David Poyer's work. I knew nothing about the world of cave diving going in, and now I am fascinated! Tiller is a great main character, especially because of his flaws (alcoholism, greed, impulsiveness). Many of the underwater sequences had me holding my breath. I hope David Poyer brings Tiller back for more in another book, but only if it can live up to this one...!
Spell binding diving thriller.......2001-07-08
As a Clive Cussler/ Dirk Pitt fan, I gladly welcome Tiller Galloway to my library. I couldn't put this book down (and donated it to the dive shop in Truk). This is a must read, action thriller. I am not a cave diver, so I can't judge how "hokie" some of it may be. Definitely a fun read!

If your a Tiller Galloway fan this is a must have.If you are a cavern or cave diver even more so. The descriptions Poyer uses in this cave diving thriller are awesome.I've read all the Tiller Galloway novels and I feel this one is the best.As an active diver and a North Carolina native {Tiller's homestate} I highly recommend this book.
Life after Dirk Pitt........2001-01-01
This was my fourth book by Poyer. I had been looking for another author after finishing everything from Clive Cussler. Although Tiller Galloway is no Dirk Pitt (from Cussler's books),I still find his character exciting.
I'm not a diver so I only assume that at least some of the details are accurate. Nevertheless, Poyer keeps you spellbound with his description of the various dive equipment and situations encountered while under water.
I used to think that being a professional diver was glamourous but after reading Poyer's accounts of the physical hardships encountered when working undersea I've gained a new appreciation for the individuals who dive for a living.
In summary, Poyer's books with the Tiller Galloway character are quite interesting.
Feeling a Little Out of Breath.......2000-01-16
This being my first David Poyer novel, I truly did not know what the expect. I picked this book up because I am a fan of Benchley and Alten who both write thrillers about the deep. The first thing I found refreshing was that Poyer did not go to deep in past Tiller Galloway stories. You can pick this book up and not feel that you are missing anything.
The wonderful thing about this book about cave divers, is Poyer's ability to make you feel "closed in" almost out of breath, during the cave diving scenes. I enjoyed most of the characters including Galloway's son, and group of friends.
The ending is somewhat dissapointing. It is exciting, but it gets a little too far fetched at times. I do recommend this book, despite the ending and it's shortcomings.

This book is great!! All transcriptions are in full tablature. All keyboards are also transcribed for guitar, to increase playability. Lots of music for that price...a great value.

This isn't the oldest book I own by a long stretch, but it may be the one I've owned the longest. It was one of my favorite young-adult stories growing up, and rereading it not that long ago shows that it still holds up pretty well today. It seems like a pretty obscure book, judging by how long it took a listing for it to show up on Amazon.com. But young readers fortunate enough to track one down someplace -- especially ones with an interest in archaeology, diving, and/or Hawai`i -- should find it worth a little effort.
John "Kip" Morgan, a high school student from Connecticut with an interest in undersea engineering, comes to Hawai`i to take part in the Makapuu Oceanic Center's summer program. There he meets a number of other young scientists, including several from Hawai`i, and gets involved in one of the Center's important projects, raising the "Ilikai," a large canoe that sank in the 1860s while carrying a huge stone idol, a representation of the Hawaiian god Kane. Along the way, Kip's friendship with historian Julie turns romantic, he develops a testosterone-fueled rivalry with the arrogant Willis, and he has a lot of "adventure under Hawaiian seas."
He also learns a great deal about Hawaiian language and culture. I thought this part of the story was handled especially well, and is one of the thing that still makes this book worth reading. The portrayal of native Hawaiians is by and large respectful, and tries to honor *kanaka maoli* traditions and sensitivities without falling into "noble savage" caricature. The pidgin inflections of Hawai`i residents like Sato Punaloa struck me as authentic (having lived in Hawai`i from time to time myself), but again without caricature. There's even a short section at the end called "It's Fun to Speak Hawaiian" that explains how to pronounce many of the names and places mentioned in the text.
I haven't held on to a lot of the books from my childhood, but I apparently made a point of keeping this one. I'm glad now I did, because it's still a fun book to return to from time to time for a good story with an interesting setting.

Adventure travel at it's best!.......2001-08-22
Gordon Chaplin does what most people only dream of - sailing into the unknown for the sake of an adventure. Starting out of the FL. keys with his girlfriend and a loose itinerary of tracing a dead relative's footsteps - to re-discover many of the lost Mayan ruins and maybe re-discover himself as well. Along the way the reader is treated to tales of boat life and 3rd world culture, filled with magnificent descriptions of the people and their surroundings, making you feel like your standing next to him at the bar.
If your looking for that one book to end the summer with, this is it - great vacation, beach reading. This book would make for a great Jimmy Buffett song.

This book is a precious and Christian tribute to the institution of marriage and how food nourishes not only our bodies but our relationships as well. Peppered (pun intended) with family recipes and tales of marital bliss, this cookbook for newlyweds does not disappoint! The friendly layout lends itself to easy-reading and easy-to-follow directions! Thanks Denis Thomas for a fun, new cookbook!

This book felt like the author wrote the rough draft in 2 weeks. It was predictable, from the first page. The characters were typical sterotypes for a romance: One wild child who wants to spread her wings, one uptight guy who needs to be shown how to loosen up.
Very run of the mill stuff, but I guess for $3.99 you get what you pay for.

Jen and Jesse has just gotten married. They met each other just eight months ago on a website called Duets. Their family thinks they are too young to get married but they go ahead with it. And so starts this beautiful dreamy wonderful book. Jesse is twenty three years old just finish college and is a business man and Jen(Jennifer) his wife is an art major who is slightly ditsy. So starts this marriage of opposites. Obviously anyone who read this book will right away think of the Newlywed show on mtv but this book has a life of its own completly from the show. I thoroughly enjoy I ached when they fight, happy when they made up, and glad they make it back together in the end. What can I say I am a sucker for happy ending. One of my fellow reviewers says they hope they turn this book into a series I hope not I like tidy neat signing off of my characters.

I bought this book like 3 days ago and I can't put it down! I am a HUGE fan of MTV'S Newlyweds and I can see some of the same behavior in this book. I hope the author develops the book into a series because I want to read more about Jesse and Jen! If you liked the Gossip Girl series than you should definitly read the book. I am a 15 year old and this is one of the books I actualy enjoyed.
I hope my review was somewhat helpful. We all have different tastes but if you like the teen books that are new and fresh then this is definitly a MUST READ!

College senior, Jen, and recent college graduate, Jesse, met through the online dating site Duets. They never thought they would find true love, but they did. Now Duets has chosen them as the "Couple of the Year," and has agreed to pay for their wedding. The only catch? Jen and Jesse have to write an online diary about married life for Duets' site, that way other Duets members can keep track of the goings-on with the couple after they've said "I do." Jen and Jesse couldn't be happier, and agree immediately. After all, they love each other, and nothing will ever change that. That is, until reality sets in, and life becomes hard. Ordering food in every night of the week, assembling complicated furniture, paying the bills every month...Soon the young couple has just had enough. Throw in a herd of meddling family members, and you've got trouble.
As someone who watched Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey's reality show NEWLYWEDS on MTV on occasion, I can definitely see the similarities between that show and Nancy Krulik's most recent literary effort. Krulik has done an amazing job of putting down on paper how hard it is to be a young couple in today's society. Especially when half of that young couple is in school. Her descriptions of fights, and making-up are wonderful, and will easily show readers the upsides and downsides of marriage. Overall, NEWLY WED is sure to be a hit with readers - especially those who were a fan of the reality show NEWLYWEDS or who are newlyweds themselves, as they will easily relate to the two main characters, who are, in their own right, quite entertaining.
