Book Description
Jane Savoie's acclaimed approach to mentally positive riding will train your mind and shape your attitudes for peak performance.
Customer Reviews:
Thanks, Jane..........2006-05-13
This is the first book I ever bought on how to use your mind when riding - in fact, I own TWO copies, for some unknown reason. They have different covers, and a slightly different subtitle, so that may be what threw me. The inside of my older book is all marked up with highlighter, and it's a familiar friend.
Jane Savoie, if you are not familiar with her, is an Olympic competitor. It takes strong mental focus, and lots of determination to reach that kind of a goal. She wasn't a talented rider when she started her quest, nor did she have the best horses, but she didn't allow that to stop her.
Instead she chose to learn how to leverage every opportunity - even if that was just the opportunity to watch a top rider.
Jane learned that the things you say to yourself are absolutely vital to your attitude - and that your attitude is vital to your success. You can learn to use it to your advantage, or you can allow it to use you. You can be the master - or the slave.
Jane gives many, many examples of people who used their mind to overcome all kinds of hardships, and she also gives many exercises to use to help you do just that.
You don't need to be "talented", and you don't need "the best" horse/tack/support team/etc - all you need is the desire to do the best you possibly can with what you have available.?"Talent" is highly over-rated. It's not the most talented rider that wins; it's the most DRIVEN one.
This book has helped me immensely with my riding, by showing me examples of people overcoming things that "should" have completely stopped their riding careers, and by giving me practical exercises to help me create an awesome relationship with my horse. I highly recommend that you give it a read, mark it up, take notes, and see what it will do for you.
Happy Trails!

It's all about doing your personal best whatever that may be.......2000-08-10
That Winning Feeling is not about getting blue ribbons or pushing your horse despite how the horse may feel. It is about doing your personal best in your own personal situation. In her introduction Jane Savoie states it clearly: "To win--let us understand--is not necessarily limited to bringing home the blue ribbon. It is developing your potential and using it for a purpose that makes you happy. It is leaving your all-too-familiar comfort zone and striving for more than you thought you could achieve. It is putting forth the kind of effort that makes you proud to sign your name to your work." And, in the last 30 pages of the book when she does speak specifically about competitions, the author says: "After the performance, you can always feel victorious about your personal milestones. Perhaps this was the first show where your horse didn't buck at the canter depart. ... Ot maybe this is the first competition where you didn't feel nauseated before your ride. ... Don't let anyone--least of all yourself--dictate any limits. The joys of competition with your partner are to be fully experienced and savored." Thus, this book is about helping you do your best with your partner, your horse. It is not about winning blue ribbons or achieving Olympic status. It is a realistic, down-to-earth, practical and effective psychocybernetic approach for helping achieve you and your horse's best no matter what your goals are.
Feeling that winning feeling!.......2000-03-31
I am not a dressage rider, yet I found this book to be completley inspiring! It taught me so many things that myself nor my trainer could ever instill in me. 2 years ago I was a Multi National champion on my horse HL Karavan+/ and I truly believe that this book lead me there. before a class I would read selected passages from my trainer, and I went in the ring with a sense of accomplishment even before the class was finished. I would reccomend this book to any athlete who has ever doubted his or her abilities. I can not express what Jane Savoie's writing has done to improve my sportsmanship, and riding skills.
This book made me wonder where dressage has gone wrong........2000-03-18
I found this book borderline offensive. It typifies for me the mindset of so many competitive dressage riders for whom the horse, however much they say they "love" him, is no more than a fancy piece of sports equipment. "Winning" is everything, or so it seems. Dressage is supposed to be about the horse, not the rider. Certainly not about "winning." What has happened to this sport? How have we become so terribly lost? I regret the popularity of this kind of "dressage" writing and it makes me wish more riders knew there is another world of riding out there, where the horse is the best and only judge of our riding, and competitive kudos or "doing a movement" are not the measure of success.
Surely the way to success!.......1999-06-22
Excellent book. Excellent for the novice or the advanced rider. Excellent motivator for any other sport or even in general life. It teaches how you can change from a pessimistic person to an optimistic person. It is filled with delightful stories from the author's life, all providing inspiration to the reader. A must have!

Book Description
For over 30 years, there has been one travel guide that goes beyond the rest: Lonely Planet. Journeying to places rarely visited, delving below the surface of country and culture, Lonely Planet pioneered a new, more authentic approach to travel. The Lonely Planet Calendar remains a visual treat and perennial source of inspiration for trekkers and armchair adventurers alike. Every month presents an exhilarating new destination, and every day a striking new photograph. From Belize's stunning, 500-foot-deep Blue Hole to mountainous Greek hill towns right out of Aesop's fables. Romania, the Canary Islands, Madagascar, and eight other fascinating locales. All year long, it's the world as it really lives.

Lovely Gift or Personal Calendar, on Beautiful, Glossy Paper.......2003-12-20
This calendar is the width of a normal calendar, but a bit taller. It's 14" tall, which means that it opens up to a 28" long hanging space on the wall. Be sure you have room before you order it. The calendar has one large photo for each month (which is about half the size of a regular calendar's photo), and also a small photo for each day. The squares to write appointments are at least 50% larger than on a normal calendar. The photos are really great. Another feature is that on each new opened page (for each month), all of the photos for that month come from a specific country. For the following month, all the photos are from another country, and so on.
There is only one drawback to this calendar, which is why I am only giving it four stars. In our case, we often look at a wall calendar from across the room, anywhere from 8-15 feet away, so all of the beautiful photos are too small to see. I recommend you buy this calendar if you will be placing it in a place where you will normally be seeing it from 3 feet or closer. If you will normally be further away, buy another style of calendar with one large photo.
They have really done an excellent job on this calendar, and it is printed on really beautiful, high-gloss paper. It would make a WONDERFUL gift for anyone who loves to travel (like me), especially since the scenes come from all over the world!

I Have The Audacity To Doubt This Book's Veracity.......1999-01-02
I'm not saying that people don't have spiritual gifts, but I do question much of Penny Thornton's vision. I must agree with the previous "critic", however, regarding the dream about the car: it shocked me so, that I read it over and over and got tears in my eyes; (if this part is pure fiction, I would have a terrific bone to pick with Ms. Thornton about lies and playing with another's emotions!).The book is a good enough read, but nothing spectacular.
The author's prophetic dreams will amaze you!!.......1998-03-12
Author Penny Thornton describes 2 dreams she had in 1986 or '87, in which Diana is seen with "a white car moving ahead, leaving the black car behind." Consider that this book was published two years BEFORE Diana's accident, and this is nothing short of phenomenal!! Several other parellels occur in these 2 dreams, as well. This is a book worth reading for those who can't get enough of Diana.
Andrew Morton portrayed Princess Di as the angel she was........1998-02-22
I feel that Andrew morton protrayed Princess Daina as the Angel that we all knew of that helped those in need. I espesially enjoyed the chapter "My cries for help" talking of her problems with Prince Charles and her marriage. And that of her Bulimia. I would like to take this moment to thank Andrew Morton. For his kind words, and his honesty about Princess Diana. Sincerley, Catherine M. Catron

Camilla & Charles: A Selfish Love Affair.......2002-11-17
While I felt that this was an interesting read I felt the author painted an unfair portrait of Diana. She portrayed Diana as a crazy, unstable shrew and yet it was Charles refusal to end his relationship with Camilla that caused Diana to be so unhappy and angry. I don't think there are very few women on this planet that would be happy and accept the fact that their husband has a mistress for 20 years that he refuses to give up after marriage. It proved to me at least, that Diana was justified in her ending her marriage and giving up the throne. The author paints Charles and Camilla as 2 poor lovers who go through hell just to be together. I felt no sympathy for either of them. But it is an engrossing book none the less.
Think of England.......2002-04-17
An even and informative tale about Camilla Parker-Bowles, a poor little rich girl who may someday get her prince.
What we learn is that the upper class in the UK is alive and sick with its own moral code. Do what you want, just don't talk about it.
I like the author's style of writing, but don't really care for Camilla.
Customer Reviews:
Dull .......2005-12-30
Here we go again. The so called 'great love story' of an imperious, immature man who has an outstanding sense of entitlement and his future Subjects better like it or lump it. And his immoral companion who wears the title of Mistress like a badge-it seems to run in her family. Adultery for some I suppose is something to be proud of and trumpeted before all the world. C & C deserve each other. I hope they are sent off into Royal exile if Her Majesty should pre-decease these two boring, old sinners. Bring on King William V!
This book is a waste of time and money. No stars even if I was obliged by the template to give it at least one.

Information Rich.......2003-05-27
Both authors are Australian and that great Aussie style comes across in the funky illustrations, easy flow of information and a few laughs along the way.
The book really embraces the new "girl power" thinking - keeping everything in balance, so it's perfect that you get both the female and male perspectives.
It's really important for everywoman to understand her true worth before launching into any relationship, and this book helps you uncover that. So if you do buy it as a gift, make sure you read it first!

Customer Reviews:
An excellent book on relationships.......2005-09-28
So often we are looking for a book that will aide us in finding the right person. Often this challenge is more of learning about ourself and then deciding what is best for us as an individual. This book is wonderful for that. Nailah Shami writes with such passion and such common sense, you will walk away knowing more about yourself, and being able to avoid persons that aren't right for you.
She is clear and concise about you taking care of yourself, knowing yourself, and then and only then are you going to be able to find the right person. As you will gain the insight and power to decide who is a frog, and who is the keeper. She writes with much passion, and she gives you exercises to go through to help you find the right person. This is a must read!
A Must Read.......2001-06-21
This is the smartest bad relationship recovery book I've ever read. The author has a great sense of humor and terrific values/common sense. Its not just another quick and easy self help book that doesn't work: The author recognizes that real change takes time, and tells you to take your time with the book and the exercises. I've read the first 50 pages three times, and keep finding something new.
Wit, whimsy and lots of wisdom.......2001-04-21
This was one of the best books for finding the "prince" of every woman's dream with practical, funny and spiritual advice. Ms. Shami talks to the reader like one of your best-girlfriend's who's not preaching, but, tells you how to avoid the "7 type's of frogs" whom you know she or her friend's have had both temporary fun and misery with, without male-bashing, while promising, that you too, can be on the road to recovery with journaling exercizes, affirmations, stories about friends who have found true "princes", and ways to pamper the queens and princess' that we are without shame or self-pity. No more worts for me as I'm not into toads, because I've found my fairy god-mother in Ms. Shami!
