Customer Reviews:
Training the right way!!.......2005-10-10
The Delmar smith methed is a great way to train a hunting bird dog. One of the best things about this book is knowing what is important to your bird dog. Nine out of ten people now days will tell you to start training on birds before pups learn to run. Not Delmar. If you let them be a pup for the first year you will have twice the dog you would have had!! Very informational. Think like a dog to train a dog...
Excellent.......2005-05-10
I used this book 20 years ago to train a Brittany and have now purchased it again for a new dog. The methods and advice are not only unique to Delmar but also highly effective. Not to mention a humorous read.
informative and funny.......2003-06-13
This is my first time owning and training a gun dog. I purchased and read this book before I bought my puppy. I was skeptical but Delmar's methods DO work. This book set the basis for what others would try to teach me later-- and I was able to share information with them as well. My dog performed at an early age as a result of Delmar's advice. You have to be able to go along with the writing style -- which I found quite humorous and much more fun to read than a text book. A great addition to any library!

It belongs in your library.......2002-09-17
The real strength of this book is that it gets you in the right mindset for gun dog training. The techniques are simple yet ingenious. I've used most of them and built my training foundation around Delmar Smith's principles.
Buy this book and several others. See a professional trainer. There's no harm in educating yourself.
The best.......2002-04-07
This is one of the finest dog training books I have read. Tarrant's books read well and Smith is a proven success in dog training. The book has been around for awhile, but it still has signinficant value. I hope the publisher keeps printing it for quite some time. I will be using a lot of the Delmar Smith method to train my new pup.

A Valuable Travelling Companion.......2003-03-11
France,1001 Sights (Anderson & Lea, 2002, University of Calgary Press) will enrich your perspective on the country, its people and the evolution of their society. It provides detailed information about remnants of human activity in France from the dawn of man in Europe (about 900,000 B.C.) through the first millennium A.D . This window provides a glimpse of paleo-, meso- and neolithic civilizations through the Iron and Bronze ages as well as the Celtic, Roman, Gallo-Roman, Merovingian, Carolingian and Viking periods of the country's evolution. This interesting and compact book complements what is available in other tour books, which focus primarily on the heritage of late Medieval and Renaissance France, by providing an ancient historical background for those later periods. In addition, although existing books make reference to the most spectacular of the remnants of early civilizations in France (e.g., Carnac, Lascaux or Nimes), this book features not only those well-known sites but also many, many others of exceptional quality throughout the country.
Anderson and Lea begin with an efficient overview of human habitation, invasion, conquest and assimilation in France, with pertinent commentary on language, religion and governance as they influenced the country's architecture, roads, commerce and organization. This sets the stage for the detailed chapters that follow on historical and archeological sites across the country in which hundreds of individual sights -- dolmens, menhirs, bridges, aqueducts, baths, villas, forts, etc. -- are described.
The book is organized by regions, a presentation that fits well with the regional historical perspective provided at the outset. Then, within each region, sites are located within current French Departments and relative to major cities. Finally, each site is described thoroughly in terms of the sights it contains, their historical significance, and how to find them. Directions are explicit in terms of route numbers, compass points, landmarks, distances from local centers and relative difficulty of access roads and paths (e.g., where pavement may be lacking or some walking/hiking is required to reach a sight).
In addition to the historical context provided to enhance the reader's appreciation of each sight, other strengths of the book include a glossary for archeological and architectural terms that may not be readily familiar, numerous black-and-white and color photographs of many spectacular sights, a bibliography of useful resources and a list of additional sights beyond those featured, for those who cannot get enough of these historical treasures.
This book will enhance forever the way one looks at France and appreciates the ancient relics of its countryside and cities, its regional differences and the formative millennia of its history, which was influenced by so many cultural forces. Enjoy this guide before as well as during your travels in France, to make the most of your time there. And even if you cannot travel there, use this book to complement other historical accounts of French civilization from the dawn of early man through the influence of the Celts, the Romans, the Germanic tribes and the Vikings (among others). It is a fascinating history that the stones tell, and Anderson and Lea have translated it well.

Book Description
Floridius Bloom has found a source of light on his planet of Gloom and he's not sharing it with anyone. He's even built a wall so that no one else can see it! Of course, Floridius is convinced that he needs it for his prize cherriflox to blossom. Not to mention the fact that he's afraid of the monsters and the wigglyfluffs that lie beyond his wall. But when Floridius meets a curious creature named Zrill who invites him to come out from his self-imposed isolation, Floridius begins to understand that beauty is a thing to be shared . . . and friendship can supply its own kind of light.
With warm and comforting illustrations, lilting rhyme, and a life lesson offered with a light touch, this picture book debut for both author and illustrator has all the makings of a classic.
Customer Reviews:
Floridius Bloom & The Planet of Gloom.......2007-05-08
This is a charming and delightful book, perfect reading for 2nd and 3rd graders. Floridius begins the story as a selfish and self centered individual. As the story continues, Floridius experiences what community and friendship can offer and he recognizes that the absence of
these things have made him very lonely. Read the story to see how Floridius becomes a loving, giving and happy person. 2nd and 3rd graders really get it! (And smart 1st graders do, too!) This is my grandchildren's favorite new book.
Great Book!.......2007-04-13
I just purchased this book for my 7 yr. old son, and he just LOVED it! It's always cool to see new "monsters" in picture books. And we just loved Floridius's grumpiness. The illustrations are really well done as well. I look forward to more from this author.

A good "treat" book.......2007-05-13
My daughter loves My Little Pony, so of course she loves this book. I'd rather she read about them than watch them on TV or movies. All in all, this book is like a candy bar for the brain. It's fun, but really, there are books that are a lot "healthier" for young minds.
Book Description
A fun look at unexplained phenomena in New Jersey, featuring information on ghost tours in the state. Includes stories about The Jersey Devil, UFOs in New Jersey, The Confederate Ghosts of Finn's Point, The Woman in White, Water-Dwelling Monsters, Pirates and their Treasures and dozens of other tales of ghosts, hauntings, curses, and monsters.

This was a fun book to read on a plane. Lots of short informative stories. I use to live in NJ. but didn't know half of the history that are mingled into each tale.
WONDERFUL BOOK OF NEW JERSEY GHOSTS AND LEGENDS.......2006-07-07
Continuing Stackpole Books' outstanding series on regional hauntings comes "Haunted New Jersey", 120 pages of hauntings, monsters, and other strange goings on in the Garden State. With some 70 plus tales they are only a page or two in length and designed to show off as many of the legends of New Jersey as possible and again, it succeeds! The book is arranged by geographical region and filled with fantastic lore.
For instance there is the former Governor's mansion on Perth Amboy where Governor William Franklin resided. Franklin was the son of one of America's greatest Statesmen and founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin. But when the Revolution started, William refused to join and maintained his loyalty to England despite repeated pleas from his father. William would be exiled to England where he would die lonely and in shame. His ghost is said to yet occupy the mansion, ever regretting his fateful decision.
Then there is the story of Antoine LeBlanc who killed three people in 1833. Was later captured and hung. His body was given to a local surgeon for dissection. LeBlanc's skin was removed and tanned and used to make various objects. One purse still exists at the New Jersey Historical Society. This was also seen in an episode of the Travel Channels "Weird Travels". LeBlanc's ghost is said to haunt the area of Morristown, looking for these objects.
While many people think of Salem or even Connecticut when you talk about witchcraft in early America, New Jersey also had its suspected witches including Elizabeth Garlick who was put on trial but later set free and moved with her husband and child to the small town of Rio Grande. No burial plot has ever been found for her but around Halloween its said a strange mist swirls around the grave of her daughter. There is also an account of the less well-known witchcraft trials that took place in New Jersey in 1730.
The ghosts of former Vice President and suspected traitorAaron Burr and his father, also named Aaron are said to haunt the cemetery and regions around Princeton University.
Of course you can't talk about the weird in New Jersey without talking about its most famous monster, The Jersey Devil. This creature has been haunting the Pine Barrens area for almost 150 years and has been the subject of numerous segments on TV shows dealing with strange phenomena as well as a feature motion picture.
The book also provides information on ghost tours in New Jersey and websites you can visit that specialize in the research of the strange in Jersey. Yet another great addition to Stackpole's series of books on hauntings!

Haunted New Jersey: Ghosts and Strange Phenomena of the Garden State.......2005-08-30
The format of this book is unappealing. The font is small and the top and bottom margins are set for less than six inches, giving the appearance of very wordy pages. The book relates ghost stories in a verbose fashion, each story could be told in less than a page.

Customer Reviews:
great book!.......2007-09-09
This is a great book. It has captured the attention of my 5 month old daughter since she could first focus on it (at about 6 weeks). She loves the rhythm of the words. I highly recommend this book and the Little Monster's Book of Opposites for even the littlest babies, but the books will "grow" with them too. I expect this book to be good as my daughter learns how to count.

Book Description
Frankie isn't exactly sure what her scientist dad does in his top-secret laboratory, but her neighbors tease her that it must be something awful -- like developing germ warfare. So when Frankie's older brother steals a bit of mysterious goo from their father's lab, she makes sure she gets some to conduct her own experiment. But Frankie never could have anticipated the results...
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful find!.......2007-02-05
Although I am avid reader of children's literature (both to myself and my children!) I had never seen or heard of this book until a few weeks ago. I just finished reading it to my 9 year old and we both loved the story about a girl and the monster she inadvertently creates. It's really a story about friendship and love, but has plenty of suspense to keep kids interested. It's a British novel and so it also led to some discussion about British English and customs (for example, I had to explain that "mad" meant crazy and not angry, and the concept of "tea"). It's a lovely story, with some elements of "gross" that will make the book appeal to boys and girls alike.
The monster Garden.......2003-10-29
It is a very interesting and detailed story I give it five out of 10 stars.
The Monster Garden.......2000-09-14
This story is about a lonley girl, who try's to make a friend, a sibling- A MONSTER? Vivien Alock writes about a girl who wants to prove to her father that she loves him, and more than anything she wants him to love her. One day she makes an absured deal with her brother, for a little bit of the substance he got from his dad's laboratory, the only problem is the monster is growing fast, very fast. He starts living in a hutch, but when he escapes from the hutch, everyone knows he cant stay a secret for long. The monster garden is a very injoyable book especially for young readers.
