Joel and Kathy Davisson experienced a troubled marriage for ten years while in the ministry. Their troubles culminated in adultery while pastoring their first church in 1991.
For three years they struggled and then began to learn fresh, life-giving principles of how to have an outrageously happy marriage. God taught them that marriage has been presented 'upside down' in the church for 45 years. The principles that Joel and Kathy started to live in 1994 set their marriage right side up and will do the same thing for yours.
Joel and Kathy lived this successful and new paradigm for ten years before writing their story and sharing the lessons learned.

Another good resource for marriages..........2007-09-01
This book, along with using scripture, can help couples identify and address marital problems and remedy them so that their marriages can be blessed and happy. As each spouse is overflowing with the love of God, then their marriage will be happy and blessed. The church and society at large will benefit as happily married christian couples bring God's kingdom into this world.
Just as God's grace is multifaceted, I believe that solutions in life will be as well. There are many good marriage books. I just read an unflattering book review by the couple that wrote this book (which is how I got here), and I am concerned on a variety of levels. The following statements are from the bible and should be lived out. Christians are to submit to God first and then to one another. Christians are to love other christians and non-christians. Husbands are are to love their wives as Christ loved the church. Wives are told to submit/obey their husbands. The weight of emphasis is what Joel has an issue with. He expresses frustration with the emphasis that if wives would only submit, husbands would love. I agree with him. But God's order and design for marriage should not be dismissed. I need to love my enemies, regardless if they deserve it. Husbands and wives have responsibilities in marriage whether the spouses deserve it or not.
It is astounding to me that Joel would publicly denounce another book on the same subject matter in a book review on Amazon. He never finished reading the book he criticized. He claims that the bible teaching of women having to submit to their husbands is based on one LONELY scripture and is actually the reason that the church's teaching on marriage has been 'upside down' for 45 years. He purports that his book teaches something inspired by God and corrects the generally accepted church marriage paradigm. On this topic, Joel claims to be prophetic.
He also claimed in his review that his greatest need as a man "is for me to learn what it means to lay my life down for my wife and love her as Christ loves the church," not to be respected by his wife. These are not analogous. Actually, one is his responsibility/obligation (dying for his wife and loving her), the other is a reference to a desired response from his wife (respect). The author of "Love and Respect" (the critically reviewed book) makes that distinction. Husbands and wives are responsible to behave as the Bible teaches, regardless of the number of scriptures that support a behavior (for instance - being a living sacrifice). Respect is something I appreciate from others, especially my wife.
Another strong statement in the review is "I do not want my wife to feel like she is supposed to "respect" me simply because I am her husband or because the bible tells her to respect me. Yes, every man would like to feel respect - but does a Christlike man want his wife to respect him just because he is a male whom she is married to? No. A real man wants to live a life that is worthy of respect and wants to be respected because of the life that he lives." He obviously was not worthy of her respect for many years in their marriage. In fact, his behavior while being a pastor was bad enough to disqualify him from ministry. We as christians should be living lives that please God which will engender the responses of respect and love in return. I would like to illustrate this from a wife's perspective, using Joel's quote, "I do not want my husband to feel like he is supposed to "love" me simply because I am his wife or because the bible tells him to love me. Yes, every woman would like to feel love - but does a Christlike woman want her husband to respect her just because she is a female whom he is married to? No. A real woman wants to live a life that is worthy of love and wants to be loved because of the life that she lives"? I would hope so. We should live what the bible says, even if others are not living the way they are supposed to be living. Proverbs 31 exhorts women to be virtuous. Men and women, regardless of being spouses, are called to be holy and loving.
Joel was a pastor when he was guilty of abusing his wife emotionally, physically, and spiritually. He eventually committed adultery. Interestingly, his parents were involved with pastoring as well, and his father had also committed adultery and left the family. It makes one wonder when a family of pastors can behave so badly. Joel, as the egregious offender, he needed to change, and not blame his wife. But what about when a wife commits adultery? Is it the husband's fault? As David proclaimed, I have sinned against the Lord. Good marriage counseling addresses spousal accountabilities, thoughts and behaviors that are inconsistent with them, and strategies to help change the marriage for the better. Rarely is a bad marriage one spouse's fault.
Before Joel's book was written in 2004, many wonderful helpful biblical marriage books were already written. And if he had read those books, he may have avoided or shortened the length of the abuse and adultery that he was guilty of. A book that balances a husband's responsibility in marriage and a wife's responsibility in marriage is called "The Way of Agape" by Nancy Missler, written in 1995. Her marriage was in shambles as well, but she fought to preserve her marriage just like Joel's wife fought to preserve theirs. Another book that was written from the perspective that a husband's behavior alone could turn a marriage around is called "Rekindled, How to Keep the Warmth in Marriage" by Pat Williams, also written in 1995. Both books take different approaches, but the end result was the same - a saved, vibrant, restored marriage.
Hopefully, in the spirit of Christian love and humility, Joel will refrain from writing additional poor book reviews on marital topics, while promoting his own books. The love he promotes in this book for his wife comes from the Holy Spirit. The same source should influence Joel to be less critical of other marriage books.
Great Book.......2007-07-19
As a Christian Counselor I use many books in my work including this one and "The Man of Her Dreams The Woman of His! 2" (the second book by this same author. I also like the new book A Forever Love Story Surviving Trials in Marriage These books are useful in showing how a Christian marriage should be. They are great "instruction manuals" on doing marriage right that goes well with the Bible. I would certainly recommend all of these books to any couple wishing to better their marriage.
Enjoyed the Book.......2007-06-30
This book is very informative and helpful in the age old conflict between husbands and wives. Joel is to be commended for his eye opening stand on issues that have for too long kept women in mental outlooks of defeat, especially when it comes to a troubled marriage. Joel and Kathy have taken a position of determination to help people realize their responsibilties in contributing to the foundation of trusting love and wholesomeness between a couple. For me, this book has been invaluable for supporting and even encouraging regaining hope that was lost and a renewed self image. That, in itself, is healing. I appreciated the emphasis on men recognizing their God-given responsibilty to lay down their own interests in life, as the head of the home, for the good of their wives. I have always believed that good would come back to them in abundance, if they caught hold of that vision. Love and respect is the main theme throughout this book. What better platform can you speak from then what God has already declared to be His design in the first place.
Hats off to Joel and Kathy! And prayerfully, may this type of writing/ministry be a forerunner to many ministries and counselors who seek to help in the marriage arena. Here is "hole" in our society that needs to be addressed and fixed. I would recommend this book to anyone who is married or even thinking about getting married!! Full of common sense.
This information WILL change your life!.......2007-06-13
This book is awesome and powerful. Joel and Kathy are truly amazing and hit the nail right on the head in every area of how to have the marriage of your dreams!!
Made in Heaven!.......2007-06-12
Made in Heaven!
When it comes to communicating how struggling marriages can be healed, God has done a mighty work in authors, Joel and Kathy Davisson. And the good news is they have shared what they learned in not one, but two of the most innovative marriage books around.
Book I, The Man of Her Dreams, The Woman of His, tells how their relationship was restored, using sound biblical principals, after the sins of adultery and abuse had taken a huge toll on their marriage.
In Book II, The Man of Her Dreams The Woman of His 2 - Livin' It and Lovin' It! (Volume 2) Joel and Kathy continue to share the insight God has given them which has produced the "outrageously happy marriage" they now enjoy. Such ideas as the husband as initiator in the relationship--the husband sets the tone of the marriage--he is the leader in that sense. They also champion submission--not as it has traditionally been taught, but MUTUAL submission, wherein the wife submits to the husband AND the husband submits to the wife. As in Book I, men are called to "become the man God is calling you to be by being the husband your wife needs you to be."
In both of their books, Joel and Kathy teach tried and true concepts gleaned from the Bible that they have applied to their own once struggling, now very successful marriage. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to have or help others to have a marriage (literally) made in heaven!

Book Description
The remarkable memoir of an Iraqi woman who escaped from captivity in Baghdad and became America's leading undercover counter-terrorist expert.
Here is the story of an anonymous counter-terrorism expert, a young woman, who, in disguise, has penetrated front groups of anti-American terrorist organizations operating in this country. In this edge-of-the-seat memoir, she chronicles her escape from Iraq via Iran to Israel, following a great tragedy that befell her family at the hands of Saddam Hussein. She also details how she became involved in intelligence gathering for the United States, her adoptive country, while working for an antiterrorism group. With her unique insights into how terrorist groups veil their true operations by various means, she was able to infiltrate and identify dangerous terrorist organizations and entities working undetected in the United States.
Terrorist Hunter provides fascinating and shocking information on how federal agencies, chiefly the FBI and the State Depart-ment, repeatedly ignored or mishandled important information she provided. She reveals her role in exposing terrorist supporters who the White House considered to be friends, in preventing the government from funding terrorist activities, and in the deportation of terrorists and their supporters. She also reveals how she discovered a billion-dollar scheme that rich Saudi Arabians set up to filter money to terrorist groups, through charities and businesses in the United States -- information that the FBI sat on for years, until after 9-11.

An interesting read!.......2007-08-01
It is a good book. I love the way it is written, it may not be consistent from line to line, and may have some difficulties in readying it due to massive information but it compensate with a good thrilling read, a lot of emotion and opinions which worth thinking of.
You may want to look for further information than settle on this book for a source on the entire terrorist concept, but it is a good start and I find most of it to be pretty genuine. The method this book portrays is too realistic; as it happen to be that terrorist fund-raising cells operate very similar to what this book portrays.
Unfortunately this book writer's not revealed and it cost in credibility. But as far as content - it has a very good hold on realistic and real-life happens.
I heartily recommend.
Terrorist Hunter.......2007-03-08
I took on course on terrorism and this was one of the 13 books we read. I would say this in easily in the top 3. It's a great read and even if you're not specifically looking to research terrorism it is fun to read. Page turner is definitely one of the best words for this book.
TWO POSSIBILITIES .......2007-02-18
I am torn between two possible versions of the story a) that it is an accurate rendition of the facts of one woman's activities ( perhaps with some significant "assistance" from those with an interest in her work) or b) the story is a composite of results of the work of a number of people and perhaps some offshore intelligence agencies. Given either of these two alternatives, my guess is that much of the factual content of the hunt is correct.
Only years later are Americans seeing video of the exhortations to violence that seem to be a part of the activities at many of the mosques. We have also seen the results of their activities in the US from the fund raising to the initial attack on the wtc to threats exposed subsequent to 9-11.
Other reviewers have proposed that the lack of convictions proves the information to be flawed. Such assertions do not reflect the extreme difficulty of prosecuting cases under US law where there is an ongoing need to investigate other and threat to those who participate in the investigation as sources. The amount of information required to be provided to criminal defendants compromises not only the content of current investigations but also and more importantly compromises sources, capabilities and methods. The problem with defense attorneys serving as the communications link between captured terrorists and those still free poses a huge threat.
What is disturbing about the book is the vast quantity of information available in the public domain or by walk-in which could have greatly assisted in the prevention of the attacks of 9-11. It is important to acknowledge that the FBI had been severely criticized for their prior investigation of religious organizations. Thus, the politically correct FBI of the 90's was hesitant to pursue many leads. As IC Smith details in his book Inside, the story of a career FBI agent, the agency suffered from a lack of principled, mission focused leadership during the lead up to 9-11. The DOJ supported not only the continued employment of a top FBI administrator (who had lied about events surrounding the Ruby Ridge rules of engagement but also destroyed evidence) but also his promotion. The very preventable disaster of 9-11 was affected by decades of mistakes in many agencies but none more critical than those resulting from the leadership cancer at FBI headquarters, where personal advancement was placed ahead of leadership and integrity.
Like so many other books on most any subject, this should not be taken as the single answer but rather a very valuable contribution of the knowledge base on the subject of terrorism.
Highly recommended.
Terrorist Hunter: The Extraordinary Story of a Woman Who Went Undercover to Infiltrate the Radical Islamic Groups Operating in A.......2007-01-25
Excellent work, this is definitely an eye opener for those who are unaware of the bureaucratic red tape and the way that our government operates.
Insightful.......2007-01-09
There are two sides to this book - the author's personal story and a factual account of the fight against terrorism.
The author's personal story is quite interesting...definitely a good read here.
The factual accounts of the fight against terrorism is mixed...at times it is incredibly interesting and truly draws the reader in. Not only is it fascinating to learn about the inner workings of the country's many security agencies...but it is also quite appalling to learn just how poorly coordinated the entire effort is. On the downside, these accounts often went into great detail, for several pages at a time...and while this is an area of interest for me, I found myself skimming ahead as some of the accounts do become rather dull.
Overall, an excellent book for someone who's really interested in the subject. For someone who's only moderately curious though - I would suggest finding something else.

The Little Woman who served a big God.......2007-09-29
This is an amazing book that I happened upon by accident. I have shared it with others who were impressed when reading about the life of this unassuming missionary. It was truly inspirational. I highly recommend this book.
excellent (the best) autobiography of a missionary.......2007-07-28

You won't be able to put it down, there are many books and even a movie (made Hollywood style, which Gladys didn't like) but the movie let me know about Gladys Alward
But this book, written withe the help of a Christine Hunter, gives Gladys Alward's story in her own words!
Better than the Movie.......2007-07-15
Gladys' story reveals the power of God's call in a woman deemed inconsequential by the powers that were. This biography is well worth reading, and would be encouraging to children who need someone to emulate.
Courageous Woman.......2007-05-12
Intriguing, informative and insightful of the ways of China in the late 1900's.
Well written and easy to read and held your attention. Shows a very courageous
woman.

Take the info from this book that you can use and leave the rest. Personally I would have rather rented this from the library rather than buying
Mother's best interest or childs?.......2006-04-29
I have news for Deedra, it is just as humiliating, infuriating, and degrading for a father as it is for a mother. If women spent more time meeting the short and long term needs of their children they wouldn't be so wounded. Mother's start out on top with the legal system and usually end up on top. Deedra and the other women are heard by the legal system even when they whisper. It doesn't need to be a fight if everyone is concentrating on our children. Children need a mother and a father even if those people live in different homes.
Most Inspirational Book for Women!.......2005-08-15
This is the most inspirational child custody book I have seen. The 8 pages of Index allow women to find thir way through the legal and emotional battle. Personally, I think that custody is more of a parent's issue than a men against women issue. Although this book does not deal with unsual situations, it is worth the $10.00 price.
Cool, calm, professional advice........2005-01-12
I enjoyed this style of writing but would have liked more informatio on how to deal with the down and dirty dished out by the other side.
Useful info; could be more comprehensive........2004-02-27
I appreciate the "Remember to take care of yourself" approach of this book. It's no surprise, since the author is a psychotherapist, that this is a large part of the book. And it's a welcome addition to all of the "just the facts" books out there. I enjoy this warmer and largely narrative approach. At the same time, the cold facts are what win your case, so I'd like to see more legal info. This book is a good part of your custody collection, but be sure to round it our with a more legal book.
Two good tips from the author: Dress like a "good mom" in court -- leave the power suit at home and look soft and nurturing. Unfortunately, ambition can count against you. Also, be sure to document the father's visits with the children. Taking pictures with a date-stamp camera (Is that what it's called?) will show that you are in fact giving the dad the visitation he is entitled to.
I definitely got my $13 worth.

Only marriage book you need.......2007-06-13
Joel and Kathy Davisson's "Livin' It and Lovin' It" is the only marriage book anyone needs to successfully navigate the blessing of marriage. It is completely based on scripture and debunks past mis-conceptions bought into by the body of Christ, namely the "submissive wife" teaching. If you want true freedom and anointed equality with respect and dignity for both partners then this is the book for you. Their first book, "The Man of Her Dreams The Woman of His" is a great introduction and overview for this topic. Both will launch your marriage into the heights of joy and "soulmates" that God originally intended.

Heal and Recover.......2007-06-08
God has blessed Joel and Kathy with a ministry that is sorely needed. The divorce rate is too high. Men and women must begin to prepare for marriage instead of just planning a wedding. I'm in ministry for step-families. My husband and I are reading the book and thrilling to the possibilities of a fresh outlook on a God-focused and super-blessed marriage. Thank you Joel and Kathy...God bless you and your ministry!
Thank you for your HONESTY!!.......2007-06-07
Joel & Kathy, congratulations! Your books have to be the most brutally honest Christian books I have ever read. Ever. Nobody - especially no Christian - ever displays their flaws and sins the way you have in these books. And this sort of honesty and help is what marriages in the Body of Christ need DESPERATELY! As a Christian, I just want to say , "THANK YOU! Thanks for being so honest and open so that others can receive the same healing and help that you have received from the Lord!" I have really enjoyed reading your books and I have found myself with my mouth hanging open (literally) a lot of the time. Not that you were any more flawed than anybody else out there, but that you are so HONEST about it. Your books are so refreshing in today's atmosphere of "slap a smile on your face, hide all your pain, and we'll just divorce when we can't take it any more." God bless you, guys! Everybody needs to read your books!
Livin' It and Lovin' It!.......2007-06-05
This book has changed my life. As a husband with a great deal of emotional pain and pride this book has taught me how to care for my wife's heart and heal her pain. Marriage is about teamwork's and mutual submission. A successful marriage is found through balance and communication. I am in a constant mode of refining myself to be the husband that God and my wife desires.
Through this book I have learned these principles and have applied them in our marriage to find lasting change and happiness.
Thank you Joel and Kathy for being so open and vulnerable in your marriage. You have blessed so many marriages through your testimonies and on-going mission work.

Book Description
Bestselling author Travis Hunter returns with a stunning new novel about family, success, and just how far a man will go to protect those he loves.
Dallas Dupree is a one woman man. A handsome and successful teacher, he is both worshipped and envied in his Atlanta neighborhood and chooses to live and raise his daughter, Aja, in the ghetto where he grew up rather than desert his roots. The only problem is that the one woman for him—his beloved Yasmin—passed away giving birth to his daughter. Now Dallas struggles through a string of empty relationships, unable to commit his heart because no woman can measure up to Yasmin. However, when Dallas plays with the wrong woman, he finds the consequences may cost him much more than he can afford.
Dallas’s sister Carmen has issues of her own. All of her life she has struggled with a weight problem that had caused a lack of self esteem. Now she is an affluent doctor who lives in the suburbs with her handsome new husband, Sterling. When a family crisis forces her to take in her wayward niece, she realizes that the picture perfect world she worked so hard to create is an illusion.
Their older brother, Priest, is pretty secretive about how he makes his money—and he does make a lot of it. He has been a father figure to both Dallas and Carmen, but now that they are all grown up, they want nothing to do with their shady older brother. But when Dallas and Carmen are in trouble, they turn to the one person who has always been there for them—and learn there is more to Priest than meets the eye.

This is one of Travis' best...This one held me captivated from beginning to end. I love the way Travis works in the characters of his earlier novels. He keeps the drama flowing with realistic tales that we can all relate to.
A page turner....that you won't be able to let go of........2005-12-07
Travis Hunter's "A One Woman Man" book is a page-turner. Once you start reading you won't want to put it down. It is so good that when you read it you feel as if you are a part of the story watching everything that goes on. It deals with some of the most important issues today. Fatherhood, love, scandal, memories, and revenge are some of the topics just to name a few. I applaud Travis Hunter on this book because its a book I can relate to all to well. I give this novel 5 stars, it is one of the best novels I've read in months

First I have to admit that I hated the cover of this book fo sho! I almost didn't buy it because of it but I'm glad I did. So I guess it's true that you really shouldn't judge a book by its cover. I appreciate stories about black men who are trying to do the right thing and that was what Dallas Dupree was in A ONE WOMAN MAN. Not necessarily an all together brother, but he was all man and he took care of his daughter and didn't mistreat the ladies. I enjoyed reading Dallas' story, but as minor as her character was compared to that of her brother's, my favorite character was probably Carmen, Dallas' sister. She reminded me very much of my sister-in-law. The way the author molded Priest, Dallas' brother, was genius. I was completely surprised by him and the ending of the book. Overall I give this one 4.5 stars.
Okay read to fend off boredom.......2005-08-08
I did not enjoy this book as much as previous works from this author. The title didn't really seem to fit the actual content of the book and the ending was abrupt and quirky. In the end there seemed to be no real lesson or meaning to it all; so this is the kind of book that you read to fend off boredom or on a long airplane ride to keep you occupied
Stupendous!.......2005-07-27
Rarely do I give 5 stars, but Travis Hunter has done it again by bringing us another novel that's fully engaging. I love novels with a twist and this one has plenty of them! I couldn't put it down and finished in one day (as I did his previous novel). Dallas, was the epitome of a strong black man who overcame early obstacles in life. And everyone should have a friend like Baldhead. All of the characters were very well developed, and the comedic tone here and there was just the right touch. Great ending which showed that things aren't always as they seem. I see A One Woman Man on the bestseller lists for many years to come.
Book Description
An autobiographical erotic novel written by a contemporary woman who is an observant Muslim, The Almond is an extraordinary and pioneering literary work, a truly unforgettable journey into the sexual undercurrents of a world that is, outwardly and to Western eyes, puritanical. Badra is a young Muslim widow who flees the small town of Imchouk to take refuge with her Uncle Slimane's iconoclastic ex-wife. In Imchouk, it was expected that Badra's life should be limited by her husband's wishes, but at Aunt Selma's, Badra begins to think about how she wants to live from now on. She recalls her youthful curiosity about sex-what other girls' and women's bodies were like, her first attempts to spy on men, her fascination with the two beautiful prostitute sisters who lived outside Imchouk. When she develops a passionate, consuming relationship with a wealthy doctor, Badra remembers and rediscovers her own sexual being, in scenes that are erotic, revelatory, and sometimes bittersweet. C. Jane Hunter's translation gives us a book of great power that resembles a Muslim Vagina Monologues. The Almond is an inspiring and illuminating novel that reminds us of the transformative power of desire and pleasure.

Sex is the same all over the world.......2007-03-30
West or East, Christian or Muslim, repressed or not, sex is something we all have in common. It would be best if we all were just more open about sex. This book is a breakthrough, because it is a Muslim woman opening up about her sex life. It's sexy and interesting. I like books like this and Abby Lee's Diary of a Sex Fiend: Girl with a One Track Mind. Anytime I can read about what really goes on in a woman's head (sex-wise) it's fun and exciting.
Fascinating and sad.......2007-01-05
It is hard to evaluate this book if you have not been exposed to muslim culture before. I was raised in a mostly muslim country who represses girls and favors boys with the effect of raising weak men who think that power and virility comes from putting down women, be they sisters, wives or daughters. I left the country for college because I did not want to live my life like that and did not want to find myself in a marriage like the main character of this book. Belive it or not, these things do happen to this day among muslim families that live in very civilized countries in Western Europe. Someone had commented that the main character is a sick puppy before she went to the big city given her childhood experiences. I got news for you. In a repressed culture those things really do happen. Older men pray on little girls and or teenage boys pray on teenage girls and it all is kept quiet because if the girl speaks, it must have been her fault, the woman is the temptress and she is ostracized. It is sad but true.
I saw myself and my friends in many of these stories and it was hard for me to read. I initially picked up this book as an easy erotica read but it is so much deeper and so much sadder. I am glad I did because it is a very well written book. It is about time that topics like these come out in the open for people to know and discuss. And yes, maybe the book would not have had the success it has if it were not written by a muslim woman. Precisely becasue it is written by one that the story is so much deeper and true because it is not work of just fiction but it is a collection of experiences shared by many women on that side of the world.
Bitter Almond.......2006-07-14
THE ALMOND has become a phenomenal bestseller in Europe, in France alone it has sold over 50,000 copies. One German critic has hailed the author who uses the pseudonym (for all the obvious reasons) of "Nedjma" as a 'literary guerrilla fighter.' Such was the mania for this book which claims to be a semi-autobiographical account of a young Moroccan woman who leaves behind a loveless arranged marriage for her Aunt Selma's house in Tangiers, where she meets a Europeanized doctor and becomes his lover.
I agree with a previous reviewer, Shapour, when he states that this book would have never received a line of notice if it hadn't been written by an Arab Muslim woman. Despite the critical hoopla from Europe's literary nitwits, this book is simply a catalogue of every kinky sexual activity one could think up. The story alternates, chapter to chapter, from the childhood and youth of her village to her experiences with the sexually psychotic Driss. But, long before Driss ever laid eyes on her, Badra was a sick little pup herself. Her memories of sexual experiences with friends and cousins, dirty old men and her morbid fascination for the village prostitutes are simply --excuse my American queasiness about mixing little kids and sex--disgusting. Regardless of the highly charged subject matter, "Nedjma" has the writing style that reminds one of a shopping list. A dry narrative of the far-fetched sexual encounters of dull people. The sexual awakening of a Muslim woman? Good for her! The rest of us though are falling asleep from her monotonous ramblings about sex and love and more sex. Some, I'm sure, are also throwing up after having read about Driss' grandmother and her young servant girl having sex while he watched. Nedjma/Badra (or whatever your name is) you need to go back to bed. And that means back to sleep, so try keeping your hands to yourself - and off yourself.
This book has received little attention here in the United States. If you haven't read this piece of psycho-porn yet, count yourself lucky and spend your time with something better worth your time. THE ALMOND is a bomb (I still love the book's cover however).
Under The Veil.......2006-06-28
I wish you could find more books like this focusing on the sexuality of Muslimas.
I once was involved with a Pakistani girl who had to see me on the sneak. Her family stressed virginity and tried to keep her (someone who was 19!) as close to home as possible when she wasn't at school or work. Well, this girl was so sexually repressed she became warped and nasty! she wanted to have phone sex, cyber sex, gave me risque pix of herself. our physical relationship was devoid of any romance. Those hypocritical values of her parents did that to her (By the way, she eventually married a Bengali, got divorced, and the last I heard is living with an american man 15 years older than her).
One Word Describes This Book: Pornography.......2006-06-28
No.. makes that two words, 'Bad Pornography'.
Face it kids, this book is hyped soley because it was 'allegedly' written by a socalled Muslim woman. If this book was written by some American or European or Jewess than nobody would give it a second notice. If they did it would be to rightfully criticise it for being nothing more than the spiteful, rebellious ranting of a bitter apostate who has doomed herself for what? for the love of carrots between the legs? For the right to not only live haram but to proclaim it and write of it in all of its sick tawdry details?

Exactly what I needed!.......2001-07-21
Like the author, I didn't start hunting until I was an adult. I have half a shelf of books on hunting and shooting, some written by and for women, but none of them are even half as useful as this book. Unlike other experts, who often seem to have forgotten that there was ever a time when they didn't know the basics, Berdette Zastrow tells you everything you need to know to get started hunting. I can't praise this book highly enough. I wish it had been available 3 or 4 years ago when I started hunting.
Woman's Guide to Hunting is a MUST.......2001-06-20
Author and accomplished hunter Berdette Zastrow addresses all aspects of hunting from a female perspective. She starts with the "need to know" basics of hunting with chapters on women's outdoor programs, firearms, ammunition and safety, hunting clothing, finding places to hunt, ethics and conservation. Drawing from personal experiences and backing her information up with facts, Zastrow explains the different types of game, the proper way to hunt that game and all the gear needed. Learn to hunt antelope, deer, wild turkeys, upland game birds and waterfowl. The book transcends gender--men will learn from this information, also. Woman's Guide to Hunting will not only educate you and help you teach others about hunting, but will inspire you to go afield as well.
Book Description
Over two million American women hunt. By taking up weapons for the explicit purpose of killing, they are shattering one of Western culture's oldest and most firmly entrenched taboos. The image of a woman "armed and dangerous" is profoundly threatening to our collective psyche--and it is rejected by macho males and radical feminists alike. Woman the Hunter juxtaposes unsettlingly beautiful accounts of the author's own experiences hunting deer, antelope, and elk with an argument that builds on the work of thinkers from Aldo Leopold to Clarissa Pinkola Estes. Exploring how women and men relate to nature and violence, Mary Zeiss Stange demonstrates how false assumptions about women and about hunting permeate contemporary thought. Her book is a profound critique of our society's evasion of issues that make us uncomfortable, and it culminates in a surprising claim: that only by appreciating the value of hunting can we come to understand what it means to be human.

The Tyranny of Feminism.......2003-11-20
I enjoyed "Woman the Hunter" very much. I read through the reviews and decided to write this because I am so tired of "feminists" appointing themselves as the official "women" who can tell the rest of us outside the privileged world of academia how to live. I believe that Stange makes some excellent points. But I think what is more important is the responses she has drawn in these reviews. They are predictable which is to say that since I first encountered feminism in the early 70s, it hasn't changed: same old, same old. First attack Stange's writing, then her scholarship, then her nerve for affiliating hunting with "feminism." And the ever classic, oppression of any type is really the same and conveniently defined by what your narrow definition of feminism is. How many times must feminists invent the wheel, and yes, mention a connection with hunting and rape without mentioning the study. Yawn...
Why is it that feminism is so completely out of touch with women? If I have a complaint at all about Stange's book, it is that she doesn't invent a new term for women who refuse to be told by women academics how they should live their lives. And what they should or should not enjoy because it could, God forbid, imitate men. Instead of men defining us, now women are defining us?
Read the book. If you really think about the book, you may well enjoy the book, as I did. You don't have to let the "tyrannical feminists" know that you can think for yourself or that you can decide for yourself how to spend your time. I no longer call myself a feminist because I am my own person, a woman, a woman hunter, a woman who takes responsibility for the meat she eats. This book made me think about my long tradition as a woman hunter. I have been with groups of women hunters, and we have shared our reasons for hunting and our love of the sport. The feminist reviews reveal that the writers don't really know any women hunters. Perhaps they would rather we sit in a classroom and talk about women's creativity, but for me, I'll discover my "feminism" on a deer hunt, in the woods, with another woman hunter, matching our wits against an animal we will clean and prepare for our table. You see Stange is right; there are many ways to be a feminist, but the most radical way is to free yourself from the politically correct notion of what academics tell us a woman should be. After all, what's the difference: men telling us to stay home or feminists telling us to stay home?
woman should stay home.......2003-06-23
I'm sorry but women dont belong in the field. I am an avide hunter and my wife was given this book by her friend. I read the first few chapters and the last one and skimmed the rest. It seems to me to be weird feminist Lorraine Bobbitt propanganda, I dont want to think of girls out there in the woods when Im withmy buddies. They would onlybe a distraction and scare the toms and cussies since they talk to much! Anyway, I highly recommend Ted Nugents books insteadof this one expecially if you want to keep the wife at home where she belongs.
Beware! Weak and convoluted.......2001-10-24
I am currently doing research for a book on modern feminism, how it has changed since its inception and where it is headed. I bought this book hoping that it would provide some insight on a new trend: Women who find release and equality by engaging in dangerous, predominantly male activities. I have read accounts of women who participate in traditionally male sports, such as auto racing, hockey and sky-diving and have found their testimonials fascinating and even uplifting. I assmumed that, like these, Mary Stange's own account would reveal a smart, positive, adventurous woman unafraid to embrace what has been perceived as a "real man's" ritualistic rite of passage. Instead, I found the author angry and defensive and, even worse, unable to articulate her arguments. Instead of proudly celebrating groundbreaking experiences, she seems to be contstantly attempting to difuse possible attacks from all angles, in the process contradicting herself. Often, she raises arguments only to drop them, which was truly frustrating. For example, when she raises the potentially interesting issue of the animal rights movement's opposition to hunting as well as its relationship to feminism, she provides a few vague quotes attributed to animal advocates, but never actually counters them. Instead, she lets them stand on their own, as though the reader should simply be outraged and not require an explanation or argument against them. This is particularly confusing for the reader who is not well versed in the current animal rights debate. I felt cheated, as though Mary Stange herself did not know how to respond and instead brought up the possibility of an animal cruelty-feminism link only to let it drop without addressing it. By the end of the book, I was still unsure as to why women should hunt, and what, exactly, this particular woman gets out of hunting. It obviously isn't exhilaration or freedom - in fact, it seemed more like a kind of revenge against some shadowy, imaginary detractors. An odd book, and, in terms of its possible scholarly value, a true disapointment.

A fine, original work.......2000-04-26
We are not that far removed from the time when we were all hunters, and Mary Zeiss Stange understands that better than most. How refreshing to read a book on hunting by a feminist! Too often we hear "Men are hunters and women are gatherers." This book shows how the hunting spirit lies within us all.
Stange is an observant hunter and a skilled writer. She understands the hunt, a very rare perception in this world of post-modern nitwits who don't understand where their meals come from, let alone the basic life cycles.
I doubt this book's biggest detractors have even read it. Read it with an open mind, and learn to see the world through the only eyes we possess...the eyes of hunters.
To the moralizing "ladies" that gave comments..........2000-02-25
I was disturbed to read reviews trashing this book as "false" feminism or an "encouragement" of violence. Please. Stange has written an interesting and scholarly account of how women throughout the ages have hunted and continue to hunt. She contributes to research that proves women can be as powerful and complex in their behavior as men. Women hunt, they work as police, they become soldiers, they kill their attackers. Which leads to the conclusion (gasp!), women are people too. For the "real" feminists who think ending patriarchy is about fainting in horror at violence in general, thereby washing their hands of men's and women's actual behavior, I say, "grow up." Stange helps make the point that these issues are complicated, and she joins other feminist voices in illustrating that women can be every bit as noble, savage, courageous, and dangerous as men. Some women have just bought the claptrap telling them they shouldn't be.
