Book Description
This indispensable collection is filled with marvelous autobiographical glimpses of Loren Eiseley at different points in his life-as a young, inquisitive man during the Depression, as an astute archaeologist, as a blossoming writer, and lastly, as a world-renowned observer and essayist. Also included are poems, short stories, an array of Eiseley's absorbing observations on the natural world, and his always startling reflections on the nature and future of humankind and the universe.
Customer Reviews:
Mainly for Eiseley enthusiasts.......2000-04-20
While I think this is a very good book, I would not recommend it to someone who has not read much of Eiseley's work. There are fabulous essays in this volume; on the other hand, some are not so good and some are unfinished. If you want to get acquainted with Eiseley's work I'd recommend "The Star Thrower" before you read anything else. If you become a real Eiseley enthusiast, then this book will be worthwhile to you.

Customer Reviews:
Bubba and Trixie.......2001-07-16
I bought this book for my 3-1/2 year old daughter. She absolutely adores this book. I have read it over and over and she just can't get enough! Some books you dread reading over and over, but this one I don't -- I actually enjoy reading it! I like it because it addresses many different issues, from every day fears to dealing with change, to friendship -- all issues that we deal with on a daily basis. I would highly recommend this book, it was awesome!
A good story nicely illustrated.......1999-11-11
Bubba, the caterpillar, fears change. Trixie, a ladybug who can't fly befriends Bubba and helps him become less fearful. Bubba takes Trixie flying after his transformation into a butterfly. The story encapsulates how friends help each other, and learn to feel good about themselves in the process.
My daughter loved this book........1999-10-03
Although my 3 year old loves the pictures and the characters in Bubba and Trixie, I know someday she will understand the meaning behind this wonderful story. I loved the story for it's message of being happy with yourself no matter what you look like or your abilities. An excellent story for those dealing with issues about self esteem.
Friendship between a fearful caterpillar & a spunky ladybug.......1999-01-31
This tale of how a fearful caterpillar overcomes his fear when he is befriended by a flight-challenged ladybug strikes a chord of sympathy with readers.

With his light to guide him, Little Firefly takes his first flight and discovers the wonders of the nighttime world. Readers can help Little Firefly "let his light shine" too by pressing the built-in light module.
Customer Reviews:
Beloved book--battery problem!.......2007-07-31
This book is very loved by my 3 year old (he loved it at age 2 as well). He actually wore out the batteries, so I replaced them (they are pretty expensive, too!). I cannot get the light to turn off! If the new batteries are in the book, the light is permanently on. This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars. Otherwise, it is a sweet book you and your child will love to read at night.
Beautiful bedtime book.......2005-06-17
This warm story of a mother firefly allaying her child's fears of the dark is basic enough for even the youngest to grasp and is a perfect bedtime book. Heavy cardboard pages make it easy for tiny fingers to turn and the working firefly light offers interaction and imbues a soft, amber light on the artwork by Ande Cook. Each page is a beautiful painting of the world as seen through the eye of the young firefly, and on each turn of the page, the sky gradually darkens from a fiery sunset to an indigo night. Ande's eye for color and sweetness of her characters makes this book a real treasure to revisit over many bedtimes.

Book Description
As the makers of blockbuster movies like The Birds, Jaws and Arachnophobia well know, animal fears are the most commonly reported phobias. Some 6 percent of Americans suffer from diagnosable animal phobia at any given time, and 11 percent will experience an episode at some time in their lives. Nearly three quarters of animal phobia sufferers are women, and most symptoms of animal phobia come on in childhood. Since most people with animal phobias experience panic attacks when they encounter certain animals, these fears can cause victims to lose significant quality of life.
Fortunately, specific phobias are among the most responsive of anxiety disorders to behavior therapy, the research-proven treatment adapted for self-help readers in this book. Readers first learn about their phobia, where it comes from, what factors influence it, and how best to prepare for treatment. Then they learn to confront and overcome their animal and insect phobia. These techniques are effective and fast. The book includes information about avoiding relapse and helping someone else who suffers from an animal phobia.

Customer Reviews:
Miss Spider Books - The Listening Book.......2007-10-02
My grandson is totally in love with Miss Spider Books. He carries them around with him all the time. When his dad tells him to get a book to read at bedtime (or anytime) he ALWAYS gets one of his Miss Spider Books.
A Lyrical Bedtime Story that Helps Ease Night Time Fears.......2006-11-08
The Listening Walk is a bedtime story written especially for children who have fears of the dark and are made uneasy by sounds they hear at night. Miss Spider, from the popular TV series, Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends, takes her son, Wiggle, on a night walk outside. She shows him that the things that seem scary to him, really are not that scary at all.
David Kirk's soothing rhythmic verse and vivid digital illustrations make this an excellent bedtime story, even for kids who are not afraid of the dark.
My two-year-old son really likes this book. He asks me to read it nearly every night.

Review of The Brain Spiders.......2001-08-04
It was bizzare. I loved it.
Brain in a jar........2001-06-21
Zack, Tash, and Hoole Go to see Jabba the hutt for help. While there Tash and Zack meet monks that can make brain transfers from one being to another or into a brain spider. But its getting out of hand.
I just finished reading this for the therd time last night. This is just one of those books that you can't put down. Its got a great plot but i'm not going to tell you the end. But for the people who want to know what that spider thing is craling past the door of jabba's palice in return of the jedi is, read this book.
Too Cool!.......2000-07-15
I loved this book! Zak and Tash go to Jabba the Hutt this time. And few things happen. This is a great book for kids and adult that are crazy about Star Wars.
Just one minor problem . . ........2000-03-01
In the series of these "Galaxy of Fear" books, there is a part when Hoole's ship, the Shroud, was heavily damaged. In "The Brain Spiders," the ship suddenly reappears in prime condition. I think John Whitman should have wrote about how the ship was repaired. My best guess would be that the Rebels helped them. If that is true, than John Whitman should have given the Rebellion some credit.
Overall, however, "The Brain Spiders" is a good book, despite the disgusting title and hologram cover of Jabba the Hutt. I loved the interaction between Zak and Hoole. This story also displayed an everyday problem with age differences between friends, instead of a crazy, bizarre, scientific plot.
IT'S GREAT!!!!!!!.......1998-10-01
This book is freaky, witty and awesome at the same time. John Whitman wrote a great book. I didn't know a story at Jabba's palace could be this good. When you found out who the bad guy is you are very shocked.

a brilliant spoof.......2002-04-02
This is a really enjoyable take on the mystery genre -- smart and funny.
Great fun!.......2002-03-29
This mystery manages to be both exciting and flat-out hilarious! My kids loved it, but there's plenty here for adult readers too -- especially us fans of hard-boiled detective fiction. Strongly reccommended!
Customer Reviews:
Heather's Review.......2006-12-03
Three Brave Women is a real powerful and exciting book to read. This book was about maybe your fear of something like snakes could mean that your mom and grandma could have that same fear. It also talks about how to some people have a fear of something like snakes or spiders is scary but to other people that is just wierd how they could be scary. It talks about when you face your fear then you should show it off. when you have a litlle fear of snakes or spiders then someone who makes fun of you could actually have a fear of something big like cats.
A bit too silly even for kids.......2003-06-21
This is a story of a grandmother, mother and daughter who conquer their fears of spiders and crawl under their house to catch one in a jar. The goal is to take the spider to Billy, a little boy who laughed at Caitlin's fears. The text is a little long for the simple plot, which I and my little niece both thought a bit silly. The line drawings are not that interesting. There are a lot of much better books out there for the 5-8 crowd
