Book Description
As profound threats to ecosystems increase worldwide, ecologists must move beyond studying single communities at a single point in time. All of the dynamic, interconnected spatial and temporal processes that determine the distribution and abundance of species must be understood in order to develop new conservation and management strategies.
This volume is the first to integrate mathematical and biological approaches to these crucial topics. The editors include not only a wide variety of theoretical approaches, but also a broad range of experimental and field studies, with chapters written by renowned experts in community ecology, ecological modeling, population genetics, and conservation biology.
In addition to providing new insights into well-known topics such as migration, the authors also introduce some less familiar subjects, including bacterial population genetics and ecotoxicology. For anyone interested in the study, management, and conservation of populations, this book will prove to be a valuable resource.

Now I'm Really Confused.......2007-06-27
This is a really great book but it is far more difficult to implement his instructions than you might be led to believe. I'll illustrate this point on the topic of the driver.
Tom has several messages with respect to the driver:
Slow swing speed players (90mph) need more loft.
You need a graphite shaft.
You need a shaft that is 43 1/2 inches instead of 45 1/2 inches. Your shaft is only 45 1/2 inches because it is convenient for the manufacturer because a 43 1/2 inch steel shaft and a 45 1/2 inch graphite both have the same (i.e. correct) swing weight. Instead of making two heads the manufacturer only has to make one but they foist an unhittable 45+ inch shaft on their customers.
Well I followed that advice and got a custom made 43 1/2 inch driver with a graphite shaft and 460 cc head. The problem is that you can't get the swingweight right on that combination without huge amounts of lead tape, a steel shaft or a graphite shaft that weighs as much as steel. What's the result? That shorter driver is harder to swing accurately than a long driver because you can't feel the weight of the head. That means that you have a driver that is less accurate, harder to hit and as a bonus it doesn't go as far.
Now I'm sure there is a solution to this problem. According to the person that made my club, the solution is lots of lead tape. Obviously, no one wants to go buy a custom made $300 driver and then put six or eight inches of lead tape on it. Also, that's not what we see the pros do so I know there is a solution. Unfortunately, the book doesn't specify what that solution is.
So after reading this book I ended up with a $300 driver that my teaching professional said was unhittable. A switch to an off-the-rack club quickly fixed the problem and none of the bad things Mr. Wishon alluded to came to pass. If Mr. Wishon had addressed this issue I would have loved the book and loved my custom made driver. Unfortunately, he didn't and it was a $300 mistake and the point of the book is to help you avoid that mistake.
Golf Club specs clearly explained.......2007-05-14
Great book for the golfer who wants to understand the equipment and its impact to swing accuracy and consistency.
The rest of the story.......2007-03-09
Great book for those interested in "what's really important" in purchasing golf clubs. In the book, Tom Wishon reveals the myths, mystery, and the hype surrounding the marketing of golf clubs. He explains the various important aspects of golf clubs, and how to pick the best clubs for your game. He is also quite entertaining in his explanations, making this enjoyable reading as well being very detailed. If I were to buy only one book on golf clubs (I actually have over 30), this would be IT!
Search for the Perfect Golf Club.......2007-03-08
Best book of its kind on the Market. A must for ebery serious golfer or for one who wants to get the most out of their game. Great addition the anyones book case.
Book Description
"If you've ever stood in the tee box with your driver, and wished you were invisible, I can tell you that I wrote this book for you," Tom Wishon said. "Golf can be a humbling game and the driver is a difficult club to hit much less master. But much of that embarrassment can be traced to drivers that are designed from the factory to be un-hittable in the hands of the average golfer. How many people have spent a small fortune on a driver only to find their tee shots getting worse? With
Search for the Perfect Driver, the average golfer will learn how and why drivers work the way they do, when they don't work and what a golfer can do about it."
Customer Reviews:
You will still be searching for that perfect driver unless..........2007-08-16
You go see a qualified club maker. That is the message being conveyed by the author. So even after reading the book, I don't feel that I'm in total control of making the purchase selection of my driver since the author suggests that having the driver custom-built by the very selct few club maker in the country is the only sure way to go.
While there are some good explanations on the anatomy of the club and how they affect the swing, I didn't find any particularly revealing information. In fact, most of them are rather common knowledge that can readily be found online and in golf publications. It probably could have been written in one or two chapters. In essence, the book recommends that you get high lofted club head with shorter-length shaft.

No problems, good delivery, condition, etc. Same excellent service I have been receiving from Amazon.
A one-of-a-kind book especially for golf players.......2007-04-14
Written by golf club designer Tom Wishon with former golf club maker Tom Grundner, The Search for the Perfect Driver is a one-of-a-kind book especially for golf players who wonder why they can spend a small fortune on just the right driver only to see their shots worsen. The average driver length on the PGA tour of 2004-2005 was 44.5 inches, implying that the best golfers in the world felt they couldn't control a 45 or 46-inch club with optimum precision; and yet it is this size of club, unwieldy to most golfers, that is commonly presented to ordinary golfers in stores and shops. This striking detail and other nuances of why and how too many drivers are designed from the factory to be unhittable in the hands of an average golfer in The Search for the Perfect Driver, as are details concerning how to fix driver faults by looking at one's own shots, how to choose the right driver for one's swing, retrofitting, special needs for female, child, senior, and advanced golfers, and much more. Enthusiastically recommended for anyone serious about improving their golf score, as is Winshon's and Grundner's previous guide, "The Search for the Perfect Golf Club."
Must-read for all golfers.......2007-03-26
According to this book, everything the average--and even above-average--golfer understands about choosing the right driver for their swing is wrong! You'll know the author is right--and you'll have the sinking feeling that you've cost yourself a lot of strokes off the tee box because of your driver.
This author is highly credible--he developed the clubmaker's certification testing for both groups that offer such training and certification. He has spent close to thirty years as a master clubmaker, fitter, and designer of clubs.
So what does the average (and above-average) golfer believe about the driver?
1. The right shaft is the most important thing about the perfect driver.
2. Longer shafts will enable you to hit the ball farther.
3. Graphite is better than steel for a driver shaft.
4. Once you get above 10 degrees of loft, you are sacrificing distance.
5. A truly custom-fitted driver will cost more than the retail "name" driver.
I could go on, but if you're any kind of golf nut (as I am) you've heard (and probably believe) at least four of the five statements. And we'll both be wrong for believing them.
In this book Tom demonstrates that while flex is important, most of the flex is dampened because the club is held in our hands--which are soft and not rigid. He explains why a shorter shaft and perhaps a steel shaft would be better suited to a lot of golfers--except the very athletic and those with great eye-hand coordination. He explains why a 350CC head may do as much or more for you than the monster 460CC heads being touted today. And he definitely helps you see how a fitting by an expert clubfitter (who probably does not work at your golf club or the local retail shop) will save you strokes, increase your confidence and enjoyment of the game and also save you money. After all, if you had the perfect driver and perfect set of irons, wedges, and putter--how could advertising induce you to try the latest and greatest--instead of working on your swing?
This book might just be your best investment in your game this year!

Review of the Search for the Perfect Driver.......2007-03-25
I thoroughly enjoyed Search for the Perfect Driver. I particularly liked the "myth busting" regarding that modern drivers performed better or got more distance when the ball struck the clubface toward the top rather than the center. The fact was/is that while one lost distance due to the ball not striking the center of the clubface, one gained distance because the loft where the ball impacted the clubface was more in line with what the golfer needed. The book is filled with such wisdom and information and should be a part of any serious golfer's library.

Just what you need and nothing more.......2001-05-15
I recently spent 4 days in Belgium, staying in Bruges and visiting Antwerp. (I stopped in Brussels briefly and used the internet to plan my few hours there.)
The small size of this guide gave me concern that it was too superficial. To the contrary, it provides a surprising amount of information by focusing on only the sites that could be covered during 2 days in each city. In 2 days, I covered all the recommended Bruges sites. In one day I covered about half of the Antwerp sites. I supplemented the information with books and audioguides available at the museums, as I would have done anyway, even with a thicker guide book.
In terms of contents, the guide provides a brief but useful overview of the region and for each of the three cities a city map (the usual great Michelin quality), listing of must-see sights (usual Michelin star system), and descriptions of those sites, even with several good pictures. It also provides an abbreviated list of hotels and restaurants, but these are not budget recommendations. (You'll probably need another source to find a hotel - I found mine on the internet.)
Best of all, this book is compact and light, and really does fit in any pocket you have.
Product Description
Legendary guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Mike Bloomfield, Hubert Sumlin, T-Bone Walker, Johnnie Winter, Albert King, Freddie King, and Chuck Berry are known to all blues fans for their remarkable soloing abilities.
But the complete blues guitarist must do more than shine in the solo spotlight. And that is why every great soloist is also a great fill-in player.
Tasteful fill-in licks support and inspire the singer while adding fire and drive to the performance. For example, Blind Lemon Jeffersons string-snapping fill-ins provided the perfect complement for his rough-hewn blues songs. Both Louis Armstrong and Lester Young seemed to talk to the singer with their finely-crafted, jazzy fill-ins. And Henry Sunflower Vestines stinging, buzzsaw fill-ins never failed to drive his Canned Heat bandmates into a psychedelic frenzy.
This book is accompanied by a user-friendly split-track CD allows you to sit in with a professional blues band while you learn to play blues fills behind a great singer, Charles Adkins. The Heat-Seeking Missile Blues Band is heard on the left channel; the fill-in licks are isolated on the right channel.
This is not just another book of abstract how do I use these licks in real life? licks, but a collection of solid musical ideas that can be applied to thousands of real songs. Another fine contribution from Red Dog Music Books, designed for the early intermediate-to intermediate guitarist. Some of the licks are accessible to highly motivated near-beginners, and the book is an excellent resource for teachers.
Product Description
A turnaround lick is one that is played in the last two bars of of chord progression; for example measures 11-12 in a twelve-bar blues. The 101 authentic blues turnarounds in this book are in the Chicago, or urban, blues style popularized by Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, and carried on by Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan; the licks can be applied to thousands of real songs. Each lick is written in notation and tablature, and recorded on the companion CD. The material is suitable for an ambitious beginner, intermediate player, blues band guitarist, or pro reference. It is an indispensible book filled with useful information. The book is supplemented with lessons/discussions on the following: Typical blues progression; Turnaround licks and progressions (defined); Typical blues turnaround chord progressions; The 12/8 blues shuffle; Creative projects for the music student; Additional blues progressions. Best of all, this innovative Red Dog Music book from veteran author Larry McCabe costs less than one private music lesson!
Product Description
This superb Red Dog Music Book and CD allows you to learn/play slide guitar fill-ins while sitting in with a crisply recorded blues band and singer. The licks are clearly written in standard notation and tablature, and the companion CD contains all 101 licks, which are applicable to countless blues songs. A guide to symbols and several helpful fretboard diagrams are included. The licks are recorded on electric guitar but can also be played on acoustic. Overall, a very fine book that will provide unlimited learning and enjoyment. Many slide guitar books are confusing because they try to cover too many tunings. Everything here is in open E. Songs include standards such as Joe Turner Blues, St. Louis Blues, Sportin Life Blues, House of the Rising Sun, Midnight Special, along with several new songs written to standard blues changes. Like Hound Dog Taylor, J.B. Hutton, and Elmore James? Then you will like this book.
Product Description
Blues guitar teachers, serious students, and blues band guitarists will all enjoy his large collection of 100% pure blues and boogie solos for guitar. Twenty-five exciting solos are presented here, each played over its own rhythm progression.
Every solo is transcribed in both standard notation and tablature, and played note for-note with a full band on the professionally recorded companion CD.
This book is for the intermediate, or better, guitarist whose interests include authentic, non-commercial blues musicthe good stuff that is seldom heard via mass-market channels such as radio and television.
Guitar teachers might use the book to introduce new hand positions, fingerings, chords, and theoretical concepts.
Each solo is made up of many interesting phrases (licks) that can be adapted and incorporated into your own style.
The solos are relatively challenging, and can be used in blues jams and on stage.
Another SUPER COOL and USEFUL music book by Larry McCabe.

Customer Reviews:
Stick to the Anime!.......2007-01-14
It's obvious the reviewer before me was making a normal male statement of liking this Manga, but if your looking for hot Bishi's, men in action or whatnot, go some where else.
I bought this Manga thinking it's be a good addition to my collection. Usually a Yaoi Fan (Bishonen too) by nature I actually took a strange liking to the Heat Guy J Anime. So buying the Manga was the next best thing (I thought) and let me tell you, I was COMPLETELY wrong.
The Manga is NOTHING like the Anime.
For a start all it contains is Hentai and Ecchi elements (and not the good kind!) it features alot of pictures of panty shots, g-string shots, boob shots of random girls in underwear, bikinis, you name it and overall could put a monkey off.
There was only one shot of J in a speedo and that was it for Fanservice for the Girls who liked the series. It was a dull read and disguisting to look at.
I suggest unless you like the above mentioned, don't pick it up. Not for Fans of the Anime. More toward Hentai freaks.
A BOY AND HIS ANDROID.......2005-06-29
Based on the successful Anime, TokyPop has released a fantastic new Manga, Heat Guy J. Set within the spectacular city of Jewde (or Judoh in the Anime version), Daisuke Aurora and his android partner Heat Guy J battle crime as agents for the Special Services, supervised by Daisuke's older brother. This Manga actually contains four separate, self-contained stories.
In the opener "City Guy" a member of the Solloso crime family, found to be dealing in illegal tobacco is found dead as Daisuke investigates. He soon finds himself confronted by the killer, a rogue android that is outlawed in Jewde. The Android knows of heat Guy J and wants Daisuke to call him out for a confrontation. Daisuke refuses and the android attacks, finally getting J to appear for battle.
In "Rumor Bomb" Daisuke is given the rather dull assignment of trying to track down the maker of the "Angel Diva" trading cards. The cards are being produced without the knowledge of the women shown on them and sold into the black market, making them a hot collectible. A far more interesting case is that of the serial bomber who has already struck several targets in Jewde, but that is being handled by the regular law enforcement until Daisuke and J find themselves caught up in the twisted plot of both crimes.
"Beast Party" finds J and Daisuke attending a swanky, pool part at a hotel owned by the head of the Wei crime family. A beautiful and buxom party guest who throws herself at the mob boss turns out to be an android assassin and Heat Guy J soon finds himself in battle with the gorgeous machine.
The last, and best story of the group is "Steel City". J and Daisuke are attending the Jewde robot expo after hearing rumors that a powerful android named Grendel plans to attack the show. The pair are led into a trap and find themselves facing a massive mecha. But all this was just a diversion as the new head of the Leonelli family sends the powerful Grendel in to kill both J and Daisuke...and J is in shut down mode to cool off from his last battle. Can Daisuke survive in time until J reboots?
This was one of the best Manga's I've ever read. The interplay between the over-eager yet lazy Daisuke and the stoic, dedicated J make for great reading as J constantly has to remind Daisuke about their responsibilities. The dialog throughout is zippy, and tinged with hilarious sarcasm. Kyoko, the Special Services secretary is in a constant battle with Daisuke to get his reports filed on time as well as fighting with him over his bullet limit. At it's core Heat Guy J is a traditional buddy cop show, it's just that one of the buddies is a steam-powered Android. The series was created by Kazuki Akane and features excellent artwork by Chiaki Ogishima. In addition to the four stories there's also a nice reference section detailing the series' main characters. Outstanding debut Manga from TokyoPop!
