Customer Reviews:
ADK books are great.......2000-10-09
This is another great book by the ADK covering the Raquette Lake, Old Forge, and lower regions on the western side of the beautiful park. A must have for even the most casual of hikers.
Book Description
ItÂ's not about changing your swingÂitÂ's about changing your mind: Two legendary coaches give golfers a powerful new approach to the game... and to life.
As coaches to some of golfÂ's top players, Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott have designed and refined a revolutionary way of teaching the game, with phenomenal results. They donÂ't believe in prescribing the same stance, grip, and swing to everyone, followed by hours of purposeless drilling. They donÂ't even believe in beginning with physical technique. Their success has proven to them that a great game begins with a great vision.
Unlike any other golf book, Every Shot Must Have a Purpose offers cutting-edge techniques for integrating the physical, technical, mental, emotional, and social parts of a playerÂ's game. The bookÂ's revolutionary pre-shot routine will improve your focus, leading to a golf swing that is not only successful but can be repeated under extreme pressure. Emphasizing the individual golfer rather than a rigid set of mechanics, their VISION54 method takes the frustration out of the game. Why 54? Because they believe itÂ's possible to shoot a 54 (making a birdie on every hole of a par-72 course) if you have the right mind-set and well-honed intuitive power.
An engaging read for the beginner or the seasoned golfer, Every Shot Must Have a Purpose is inspiration for life, not just the links.
ÂI have been impressed by Pia ever since I saw her in action in the late 1980Â's, first as a player and then as my coach. Pia is open-minded and intelligent and possesses the desire to constantly help others develop... I have been inspired to follow her beliefs and life philosophy.Â
ÂAnnika Sorenstam, LPGA

Every Shot must have a purpose.......2007-10-10
Absolutely brilliant, not only helped my golf but my attitude towards it plus life in general. Teaches that when it comes down to it we can do anything we put our mind to.
"Must have book for your mental game".......2007-08-31
At first when I got this book, I thought this was just another book to help you with your mental game. But after reading this book, I find it has help me focus on every shot. I like their idea of "think box" and "play box". I find when I'm ready to swing that I had so many swing thoughts that it would really mess me up when I swing. The authors kept it simple to where I did all my thinking in the "think box" (choose target, type of swing, etc). Once you cross the line and stepped into the "play box" all you do is just focus on the target and just swing. I find myself hitting closer to the target and not all over the fairway.
The other ideas mentioned in the book are really helpful. Keeping positive thoughts as opposed to negative thoughts when you swing helps. If all you do is focus on avoiding the bunker or water, well guess what happens your shot ends up in the bunker or water. I am having a lot more fun playing a round of golf after reading this book.
I highly recommend this book for help with your mental game!
every shot must have a purpose.......2007-08-26
helps one to focus of the importance of thinking about the importance of every shot when playing golf
How to Drop 8 shots quickly.......2007-07-06
This little Book replaces all the dozens of books that I have purchased over the years. I read it through twice and have reduced my score from the mid nineties to the mid Eighties. I am 76 years old and am living proof that you can teach an old Duffer some new Tricks. I play with an over 50 Group twice a month and last Month I won my "D" Flight by 5 Shots, earning a $51.00 Gift Certificate. It is so full,of good common sense, and mainly confirms the most important distance in Golf is the Five Inches between your Ears.
Sound basic advice, but the writing is gimmicky........2007-05-11
As most of the other reviews mention, this book is focused on the mental and emotional approach to golf, as opposed to swing mechanics. I think that's great. You can pick up some useful insight, and hopefully you can get advice on your swing mechanics in person from a qualified instructor (definitely the best way to go).
The authors give some good advice on how to approach the game. They talk about a "think box" and "play box," which are useful concepts. I picked up a good slogan, "achieve and leave," which I now say to myself when I start getting compulsive on the practice range.
The bad news is that I found the writing to be full of gimmicks and advertisements. They use a lot of UPPERCASE LETTERING for emphasis which drives me crazy because I feel like they're shouting at me (okay, I may have some personal issues here...). They went so far as to trademark the name GOLF54, and they shamelessly promote their schools and some pseudo-science nonsense called HEARTMATH.
If you're looking for a good book on the mental game, check out Golf Is Not A Game Of Perfect (Bob Rotella), Fearless Golf (Gio Valiante), or Extraordinary Golf (Fred Shoemaker).

Olivia would be Eloise, if Eloise were a pig. She is good at singing 40 very loud songs and is very good at wearing people out. And scaring the living daylights out of her little brother, Ian, particularly when he copies her every move. She is also quite skilled at reproducing Jackson Pollock's "Autumn Rhythm #30" on the walls at home. When her mother tucks her in at night and says, "You know, you really wear me out. But I love you anyway," Olivia precociously pronounces, "I love you anyway too."
The New Yorker artist Ian Falconer's endearing charcoal portraits of his porcine heroine are spotted with fire-engine red gouache in all the right places--perhaps a tribute to Hilary Knight's red, pink, white, and black celebrations of Olivia's human counterpart? When she dresses up, the bow on her ears, her red lipstick, and her high-heeled shoes are all red. (The only time her shades-of-gray body is pink is when she is sunburned and the area where her bathing suit was is white!) Falconer does a fine job of letting the spare text set up the jokes for the visual punch lines--a dryly humorous interplay that adults will appreciate as much as children.
Preschoolers (and their parents) will see themselves in Olivia--a typical high-energy, over-the-top kid who likes the beach and Degas paintings, but hates naps. On the other hand, she combs her ears and is unusually gifted at sandcastle building. While we are certainly reminded of Eloise, Falconer's portrait is simpler in scope, less demented, and, as a result, less adult. Bottom line: precocious is fun, and we're tickled pink to have Olivia join the parade of, let's just say, individualistic youngsters. (Ages 4 to 8) --Karin Snelson

We love Olivia!.......2007-09-18
This is one of my sons' favorite books. Olivia is a feisty, imaginative little pig who definitely keeps her mom on her toes. It's just a fun and funny little book, a must-have if you've got younger kids.
Great read, illustrations and quality.......2007-07-17
Not only is it such a fun read for our little boy, but it's also has such cool illustrations. Introduction to the art of Degas and Pollack is such a plus, too! Everytime our son sees the paintings he mimicks either the dancer or the splashes of paint...it's so cool. PLUS, the hard pages are so solid. I just love it. It's pretty indestructable.
Olivia is the best.......2007-05-12
Olivia has delighted my severe special needs students age 7-10...I can't describe the pleasure I get from watching them pour over this book when I am reading it to them...
Excellent story...a jewel for those with daughters.......2007-05-11
Anyone who's ever had a toddler...especially an active, inquisitive one can appreciate this story. In the literal sea of vividly colored children's books out there, Olivia stands out based on simplistic artwork, color choices, and it being a GREAT story.
Parents and children can relate to Olivia's antics...singing loudly, trying on everything in the closet, having a vivid imagination, painting on walls, etc., especially Olivia's mom saying "You know you really wear me out." And the fact that she is a spunky pig makes no difference.
I have enjoyed hours reading this book (and other Olivia books) to my daughter. It is short enough for a bedtime story but long enough to be complete. A good book all around.
Love Olivia.......2007-03-17
We love all of the Olivia books. They are well written, well illustrated, and my kids love them.

Customer Reviews:
an amazing book.......2007-01-16
It's a great book. I didn't get a chance to read it all through but I did read a few of the techiques and used them on my boyfriend. We live 700 miles away from each other and he was amazed at the different things I did to him. Just can't wait to finish the book and try everything techique there is on him.
Pagan Philosophy 101.......2006-04-18
I bought this book as a gift for my spouse. Notice I said "spouse". Sex is made to be enjoyed within the bond of marriage, I do not condemn any sex enjoyed within that loving relationship. It is a pure and holy union instituted by God.
My biggest problem with this book is something that none of the other reviewers really mentioned. Not only does the author include a couple stories and references to her and her friends' lovers, but she inundates the reader with idolatry. This author's beliefs revolve around "gods and goddesses". She constantly talks about sex altars, statues of gods and goddesses, icons and pagan history. She makes statements about penis worship, ceremonies and invoking the spirit of gods and goddesses. This is sick and twisted, it cetainly is not what I had hoped for. There may be some okay ideas in here, but there are plenty of other books that do not lead us down the wrong road just because we are interested in achieving better physical intimacy with our husbands or wives.
The other part is that the author assumes that the reader enjoys reading curses. Why should people relate loving sex with idol worship and immorality?
This book takes a great thing, sex, and twists it into something that many people will not want to read about. If you are looking for a good book about this subject, I recommend looking elsewhere. Hopefully, this review has helped you make that choice.
Exciting yet difficult.......2005-10-08
I ordered the book and was so excited to see all the different positions one can do with their partner. Most of the positions are the same, maybe a leg move or an arm in a different position, but otherwise the book is alright.
Some of the positions in the book are difficult to accomplish. You have to be either flexible, slim, or your man has to be packing in the genital department to accomplish some of these positions.
Otherwise, it was great just experimenting and having fun with your partner. Women will read the book and understand what's going on here. Men would be more like, "I don't care where I have to put my leg to feel a different sensation, is it in or not?" That's funny. It's a good book, it's fun to read and exciting to try.
worth reading.......2005-09-23
fun ideas, organized into fun chapters. excellent names for the techniques (which, in my opinion, is part of the fun!). worthy compilation - buy a copy for all your timid friends.
Some good inspiration..........2005-01-11
While the book provides some really great inspiration and ideas to add to your sexual repertoire, some of the way-too-many synonyms and descriptive words used for male and female anatomy provided not only giggles, but enough adjectives for 8 or 9 romance novels.. Honestly, "Love Rocket, Shivering Member, Celestial Dragon, Healing / Royal Sceptor, Magic Wand, Warrior Weapon, Love Organ, Cobra, Stalk, Untamed Animal..." to list a few.
Definitely a book worth reading and referring back to for those in stagnant relationships needing a sexual boost - or even those new to sexual relationships...

Great Yoga Deck.......2007-10-18
I am currently in a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training program and Olivier Miller's Yoga Deck and Yoga Deck II are fantastic resources for both students and teachers. With the deck you can very quickly pick out a yoga routine to meet the needs of your students or for yourself and vary the routine from day to day very easily to meet changing needs. Each asana is clearly explained and illustrated and the benefits derived from each posture is explained. There are even cards for pranyama (breathing exercises) and meditation. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND these products. By the way, you really don't need both decks if you are just beginning yoga. But I recommend both decks for those who are beginning teachers are more yoga practioners who may want to expand their practice.
yoga cards.......2007-07-04
My wife is a yogini and loved these cards as a gift, to help her teach.
Love the Deck.......2007-02-15
As a beginner in yoga I can't remember all the postures from class and these cards help me to mix up my practice at home.
The Yoga Deck: 50 Poses & Meditations for Body, Mind, & Spirit.......2007-01-29
I love this deck!!!! The breathing exercises are easy. The position are fun. and it's real convenent.
Yoga Deck - awesome in so many ways..........2006-12-29
The Yoga Deck is really great for a number of reasons...
- Unlike a clunky book, the cards are easy to handle and refer to during yoga practice.
- Unlike a yoga video/DVD, the cards allow one to go at one's own pace.
- It's easy to create a yoga routine tailored to one's particular needs at the moment.
- If one only has a few minutes to devote to yoga, it's easy to simply pull one card, or maybe two, and really focus on those specific poses.
- The Yoga Deck is compact and easy to transport, and since yoga requires no more than a little space it's excellent for travel.
I own both the original Yoga Deck and Yoga Deck II and absolutely love them!

Amazon.com's Best of 2001
When it comes time to tell the class what she did on her vacation, Olivia isn't at all nervous. In fact, she remembers it quite clearly--she went to the circus, you see. "But when we got there, all the circus people were out sick with ear infections." What are the odds? But the show must go on! Fortunately, Olivia jumps right in to help out--riding elephants, posing as the Tattooed Lady (she draws on the pictures with a marker), taming lions, walking tightropes, juggling, clowning around, and more. In a marvelous fold-out, four-panel spread, our porcine heroine even reigns supreme as the Queen of the Trampoline. "And that's how I saved the circus. And now I am famous." Olivia looks proud. Her teacher looks mad. Ian Falconer shines in this dryly hilarious sequel to his 2001 Caldecott Honor Book Olivia. The charcoal and gouache illustrations perfectly capture Olivia's earnest expressions. Be prepared to be charmed anew! (Ages 4 to 8) --Karin Snelson
Book Description
Olivia remembers her trip to the circus very well. The performers were out sick, so she had to do everything. She...
- rode on a unicycle
- jumped on a trampoline
- juggled five balls!
- tamed lions
- and flew through the air.
Step into the ring with Olivia, where the lights are dim, the color soft, and a little girl's imagination is the main attraction.
Customer Reviews:
Cute, but not my favorite Olivia tale.......2007-04-21
The first two pages are the best in "Olivia Saves the Circus." That aside, the basic story is that Olivia, during show-and-tell, "embellishes" her trip to the circus. The drawings are fabulous as usual, but the plotline is a little dry. Still, my daughter loves it because it does capture the spirit of Olivia, though the story is very one-dimensional compared to the other Olivia books. And check out Olivia's "Remember the Maine" tatoo - it's a hoot!
My dad and I love this book!.......2007-04-20
The illustrations are very vivid. Ian Falconer can really think like a kid. A lot of times authors do that but its a little much.
Great Book.......2007-03-29
My daughter and I love reading Olivia books. The stories and the illustrations are great and very funny.
Worthless.......2007-03-11
This book, as the other Olivia books, is witty and creative. Unfortunately, the book is rendered worthless and inappropriate by the poor content. Olivia lies. Yes, all children enjoy fantasy, but when she's directly asked for the truth, she lies. Again, most kids will try that at least once. But for Olivia, there are no consequenses. What an awful message for children.
It gets worse. She shows a very negative attitude about her "boring uniform" that she has to wear to school. What a brat. And at the end she intentionally defies her mother, and of course, no consequenses. Blech. It's worthless, which is too bad because this author definately has talent.
Not as good as hoped.......2007-01-16
LOVED Olivia and the Missing Toy, wished I'd read Olivia Saves the Circus in a bookstore because I wouldn't have bought it. Very disappointed.

Book Description:
Everyone's favorite Caldecott Honor-winning porcine diva is back and with fanfare! There are going to be fireworks tonight, and Olivia can hardly wait to hear the band. But when she finds out that there isn't going to be a band, she can't understand why not. How can there be fireworks without a band?! And so Olivia sets to putting a band together herself... all by herself. Using pots, pans, her brother's toys, and even her father's suspenders, Olivia forms a band spectacular enough to startle any audience. Lavishly brought to life in Ian Falconer's signature style, and introducing an eye-catching shade of blue, here is Olivia doing what Olivia does best--making noise
Exclusive Art from Ian Falconer's Olivia Forms a Band
|
Why wasn't this picture included in the book? Here's a look inside the creation of a blockbuster picture book.
There were 60 images selected for Olivia Forms a Band out of over 70 pieces of art submitted by Olivia creator Ian Falconer. Sixty images may sound like a lot, but many pages are filled with multiple depictions of our porcine heroine. For instance, when you look at the page where Olivia is removing Daddy's suspenders, this page has nine separate drawings. On the other hand, the glorious fireworks scenes are all composed of one piece of art per page.
For this particular image of Olivia provided exclusively for Amazon.com customers, Falconer didn't feel like this artwork captured Olivia's true character. However, many people in-house at Simon & Schuster loved the picture and thought it was typical of a 5-year-old playing with her mother's lipstick. While there's a lot to love in this picture, Ian Falconer after all is the man behind Olivia. He knows better than anyone what makes something up to "Olivia standards." Sometimes that is as simple as being able to know which image works best for a particular moment in the book. In this instance Falconer felt the drawings that were used in the final book served the scene better, and with that this one was left on the cutting room floor. |
