This book is very impressive. The research is first rate and the writing is excellent. The coverage of population as an issue is comprehensive. It is especially effective in presenting the terrible consequences of human overpopulation on habitat destruction and biodiversity. I've read several books on human overpopulation. This is the best
A pessimistic bias........2005-03-04
The relentless litany of bad news is unfortunately a common theme in many environmental books,including this one. It completely overlooks the major worldwide trends--more food per capita,safer water,lower infant mortality,for example--that have increased life expectancy by more than 20 years since World War ll.

An interesting perspective.......2006-08-09
This author takes you on a real, candid journey of his travels with a tour group. He talks about the places, people, and history of each place visited. The book is also is a travel journal of his experiences with the people he meets and befriends along the way. This book makes learning the history of each place less dry that your ordinary history text and his thoughts and experiences add many chuckles along the way as you get a glimpse of the mind of a young man abroad. A very dense book, but a very easy entertaining read.
Not what I expected!.......2006-01-26
Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I was extremely disappointed with this book. The author took a trip through a travel company called Kon Tiki, and spent as much time talking about the women he met on the trip as he did the actual places themselves. Having traveled all of the same areas, he failed to capture what makes these cultures so captivating (I imagine that would be hard to do in two weeks from a tour bus). At times he was negative about parts of the culture instead of appreciating their differences. He doesn't even come close to articulating the magnitude and beauty of several historic sites, including the famous Alhambra in Granada. I hope that readers do not form an opinion of these 3 counties from this rather poor description, they have so much more to offer!

I purchased this book for my pony-crazed 7-year-old daughter, who reads at a 3rd grade level. This has been a great chapter book for her--challenging without being frustrating. And the fact that it's about a pony-crazed princess has kept her interested, even though she reads me only one chapter each night. She's looking forward to reading about each of the ponies, as they get featured in future books.

This book is one of my fave books.It is purfect for kids.this book is about friendship,love,and ponys!It is all about a princess who just wants to be a normel kid,but can't.But with the help of her new groom she finds fun and aventure.When her pony goes missing she blames it on a kid you lurking in the shadows.Who is the spy?Where is the pony?But you have to read it to find out what happens.

Of course MUCH better then Heartland i find those books...well.. rather BORING! i just skip skip skip end of book! Boring, but as i say everyone has a diffrent taste in everything.But these books! WOW a book you would never put DOWN! Love em' love em ALL!
Very good, but I expected better.......2005-03-06
Good book.This book has very good morals.I wrote a review for 'Home is where your horse is',and I accidentally said that I wanted a 'romantic ending' with Scoop and Travis,and I completely forgot that 'Home is where your horse is',wasn't the last book in the series.Now having said that,I meant to say that I wanted a 'romantic ending' with Scoop and Travis in this book.An-y-way,this is a good book,but it's not my favorite in the series. But,as always,like all the other books in the series,this book has very good christian morals to it.And that is probably one of the main reasons I like this series so much,is that in every single book there is a good message. I know this is off the subject,but here is some other AAAWWSSOOMMEE christian books;Arena,by Karen Hancock,Hangmans Curse,by Frank Peretti,and Nightmare Academy,also by Frank Peretti. Anyways,getting back to subject here,this is a well written and very good book with awesome christian morals,but like I said before,it's not my favorite book in the series.
King's Camp.......2001-08-18
I think this Horsefeathers book was preety good. Summer is almost over. When Scoop back to school her teacher will ask her what she has done during summer vacation. Scoop doesn't want the summer to end until she has done something. While going with her Aunt Dotty to pick up her brother BC from King's Camp she finds something she can do. King's Camp is getting four horses. The horses aren't ready to be ridden ans their isn't anyone to teach the kids how to ride. So Scoop boards the horses at Horsefeathers and teaches the kids how to ride. She has lots of problems first no one wants to ride, then all her friends quit helping her and she gets hurt. If King's Camp doesn't want the horses they will go to the slaughter house. Scoop has to get King's Camp to kepp the horses.

Fast Paced Thriller From All Angles.......2007-07-19
This book is a great read. The author flips back and forth between the Secret Ops mission and the political masterminds giving them the orders. The plot unfolds in such a way to give the reader an insider's view into the process and secrecy regarding the US's secret operatives, as only a good writer with a deep understanding of the politics behind the scenes. Overall, 'All The King's Horses' is a great book, from all angles.
Well paced thriller from a new author.......2007-02-08
This is a well paced, carefully plotted, complicated thriller. The author cuts cleanly from scene to scene, varying big-picture views with first-person shots with inside-the-head-of-a-character narratives in a way that keeps the story moving and keeps you interested. The scenes are incredibly well researched, and the author clearly knows about the subjects on which he writes -- his experience in the Halls of Congress are evident to anyone who ever spent any time there, and as a veteran railroader I appreciated how carefully researched his sections involving the trains were (illustrating that even the smallest of scenes show he knows what he's talking about). There was careful character development and backstories, as well as interesting explorations of character as the individuals faced various tensions (romance versus work, work versus family, history versus current duty). Two small nitpicks: there are a few characters I hope to learn more about but I have the feeling that I will get to know them better in future books. And the book could benefit from a stronger editorial hand in terms of grammar/spelling but the story moves you along so well that while you may mentally tag them, you race over any small glitches.
