A tender but insightful true history of what makes the alumni of the University of Maryland, Munich Campus so special. Occasionally outrageous, sometimes hilarious, but always entertaining.
UMMC was a magical place created under unique circumstances. Everyone affiliated with UMMC can't help but to have come away from the experience uniquely tied to a special group unlike any other.

Animal House - Europe.......2002-12-25
Being at the University of Maryland's Munich Campus in the 60's was an exciting time in my life. Circe has captured so many wonderful stories of those who were fortunate enough to experience their freshman and/or sophomore years in college. I highly recommend Bavarian Creme to any of the thousands who attended.

Release Date: 1999-07-27 |
Book Description
An all-new novel based on the television series by Winnie Holzman.
Some things never change... some things do.
It's proving to be a long, hot summer for Angela Chase and her friends. Angela's back with Jordan -- sort of -- and working at her dad's restaurant. Brian's still in love with Angela, still searching for Delia Fisher, and mesmerized by an older woman. Rickie's in love, too, for the very first time. Sharon breaks her vow to ditch Kyle and suffers the consequences. Rayanne gets hired and fired from a series of crazy jobs -- but she has something a lot more important on her mind. This summer seems interminable. Or maybe terminal...

What a dissapointment.......2004-10-26
After recently re-discovering My So-Called life on Noggin, and then finding out there was a book that followed the characters after the series ended, I was very excited to find it. I immediately searched for the book everywhere, couldn't find it, as it is now out of print. I finally found it at one of my local libraries, and read the entire book in a few hours.
The book was NOTHING like the show. True, the same characters are there, but there is no real life to the book. Angela now seems shallow and even flaky at times. There was not the same depth to any of the characters, or the entire story, as there was in the show.
To me, the ending left me wondering why I wasted my time. I read the book, thinking the whole time that something interesting would happen. The only thing interesting was with Brian. In fact, I feel like most of the book focused on him more than anyone.
All in all, I feel like after reading the book, it took me no farther than the last episode of the series did. Even if you are a huge MSCL fan, I wouldn't bother.
My So Called Life Goes On.......2003-10-08
My so called life goes on is a very entertaining book but at times I felt a loss between the characters now and the characters that I fell in love with in the series. Chaterine Clark did not capture the essence of Angela which was most disappointing but there were other things in the book that did not add up either. Like Jordan never called Brian by his real name always by brain and Jordan would never beg anyone to help him... unless it was Angela and about sex!!! Also the route that the characters took were a total 90 degree switch from the series. I mean I was a fan of the show when it first aired back in 94 and I have recently watched the whole series on dvd and when I watched the characters on screen it was almost as if I had found a peice of my heart that had been missing for quite awhile. I think it was more about how Winnie Holzman created the characters and they were so relatable and the things in there series were so real that it was easy to watch and not feel apart from yourself but it was like you could become apart of the show. I enjoyed the book emensly and I know that the book was not like the show because it did not come the heart of the writers but I really did enjoy it and if you have an open mind and just enjoy reading about the characters you will to. BTW the ending was such an unexpecting thing but I have to say that I did enjoy the ending!!!
A Satisfying Wrap-up to the series.......2003-08-11
I'm still uncertain as to why most reviews have been negative about this book.
This book doesn't hold a candle to the series, true. But it's like comparing the metaphorical apples and oranges. The show had brilliant performances,as well as lighting, sound and other visual aspects to bring its story to life. The book has only text; but I think Clark has done a commendable job of envisioning the series through just text.
All of the main characters and many of the supporting characters have moments that fit in nicely with the overall summer story, particularly Brian Krakow. (And let me tell you: If you were heartbroken with the final episode of the series, read the book and see Brian finally get a bone tossed his way.) Everyone gets a piece of the pie, but what's nice is that we get to hear their own individual voice as well. The tv show took an overwhelmingly subjective viewpoint from Angela, while this books delves into all of the kids' minds. Unfortunately the one downfall of the book is that there's not much attention on Patty or Graham, so those looking to see the Chase parental units at work will be starved. But that's ok, because this is about the kids' summer.
I'm also at a loss as to how anyone can compare this with the first book Catherine Clark wrote about the MSCL characters, as the first book is essentially a novelization of the series. hmmm...
But anwyay, if you were angered and unsatisfied at the abrupt end of the show, then I recommend reading the book to provide a more adequate closure. (And if you really, really, REALLY want to see Brian Krakow shine!) :)
it's not as bad as they say!.......2000-02-26
I think Catherine Clark did a good job creating a summer for the MSCL characters, and I actually found what she came up with pretty believable. After all, I think it makes perfect sense that Angela would work at her dad's restaurant, Rayanne would not be able to hold down one steady job, and Sharon would STILL sleep with Kyle, even after promising herself she wouldn't. Okay, so what happens with Brian is a little out there (I won't give it away!) but come on, the poor guy deserves some adventure. All in all, I enjoyed this continuation for the MSCL crew.
I am THOUGHROUGHLY disgusted.......2000-01-07
I am one of MSCL's biggest fans, and this book completely strays from Angela's complex, almost contridictory yet endearing thoughts. For instance, read the excerpt from the book, Angela would NEVER "rev the engine and honk as she backed out of the driveway" or try to run over Brian Krakow shouting "JEALOUS! " The author would have done better basing the story on MSCL and creating new characters altogether. However if you dearly miss the show and wouldn't mind the dramatic mutation, then it wouldn't be so terrible. But if you simply fell in love with the characters, don't read it, it'll break your heart.
Book Description
Based on the critically acclaimed television show, this stand-alone novel boldly grapples with such vital teen issues as the price of popularity, substance abuse, and relationships in the age of AIDS. The loves, losses, and emotions of Angela Chase and her diverse group of friends are chronicled with the same humor and sensitivity that have attracted a devoted teen following to the TV series.
Customer Reviews:
For those of you who never saw the series..........2002-05-29
...or forget what they *did* see of it, don't bother buying the book. TV tie-ins are only interesting if you've seen the show, and this one is no exception. It seems to gloss over a lot of things, and leaves the reader feeling unfulfilled. I imagine if I had seen every episode, I would have appreciated it, but to those who haven't - don't bother reading this.
This makes a good show look lame.......2002-04-29
I originally read this book to reminisce about the show. The show came out when I was a senior in high school, and Angela was a sophomore. I loved the show. I thought the book would go into even more detail, but it didn't. I was very disappointed. It just did not capture the feel of the show at all. It seemed to be too vague. It just didn't develop the characters well enough and merely listed situations. I would get frustrated when things would not be described exactly as they happened in the show. I had the show pretty much memorized, and I was always like--Rickie did NOT say it like that. It is a very poorly written book. The writer of the actual show was probably much better. He or she should have written this book, or Claire Danes, who played Angela and knew her inside and out. But, if you are looking to merely reminisce because you miss the show, it can somewhat do the trick. It's pretty much one of the few books of the show that exist and would probably make a great collector's item. But it's only an "okay" book. The show is much better. If you are the bookworm type looking for a fantastic read, you're not going to find it with this book.
My So Called Life.......2002-03-14
My So Called Life was one of my favorite shows growing up and I could really relate to the characters and what they went through. I can't beleive it was canceled after winning awards and it's strong fan base. This book brought a lot of memories back about the show and gave more of an insight into what the characters were thinking. If you're a fan of My So Called Life I highly recommend this book. Even if you're not and clueless as to what My SO Called Life is order the book and ease your curiousity!! My only complaint about the book is it left out a few episodes, but I can see why some were left out. The author knew where she was going and the ending was perfect because if she would've wrote the last episode it would've left you wanting more excactly like the show did!!
My So-called Life, this novel, like the series-was good!.......2001-12-06
I thought this novel was interesting but still a good and well written book. It states a lot of the true things the average highschooler has to go through in their highschool years. The novel shows more than one perspective of what one highschooler thinks of highschool, compared to what another highschooler thinks. The book shows that highschoolers must deal with drinking, and choose to do it or not. Which is very true in highscool. When you're a girl, you must deal with all the boy problems that come with highschool. Which is very true also. The novel describes a couple months inside a teen's mind and how she delt with the things she has encountered. It's a good novel to learn about highschool life.(If you're going into highschool, or getting ready for it, or if you're still in Junior Highschool and you want to know what highschool life is like.)
best book! :).......2001-02-18
I've read this book SEVERAL times! It brings back the good ol memories of the gang! :) Some chapters I can actually remember from the series on tv. If you're missing MSCL read this and cheer yourself up! :)
Book Description
A compellingly inspirational memoir of a young woman confronting the battle of her life with hope, humor, and style.
Customer Reviews:
Disappointed.......2006-07-05
I guess I'm the only one who wasn't totally insired by her story. I did not follow her stories in Glamour, but I am a young woman who was diagnosed with cancer in her 20s. I was expected to find a lot of situations I could relate to. There were a few, but I kind of lost interest when I felt she kept going on and on about everything she did for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Compared to the cancer survivors I know in real life, she just seemed unreal. But then again, all the cancer survivors I know have been through chemo and/or radiation.
My So-Called Normal Life.......2006-03-22
A memoir about a 23 year old girl who finds out she has cancer while she works at glamour magazine. She learns to soak in life, to love those around her, and distill the important things in life from the vain and insignificant...although she still cares about her weight! She turns her tragedy into good work and action by starting to fund raise for the cancer society and with the help of glamour magazine raises 25,000+ dollars. There is another twist in the story. Completely unrelated her sister gets cancer as well, Hodgkin's lymphoma. Unlike leukemia, Hodgkin's lymphoma is curable. Leukemia is not...Erin will either need a bone marrow transplant or take this new medication for the rest of her life. They struggle with issues of mortality, fertility, and love - issues that many of us are not forced to deal with until much later. Interesting, quick read.
Much more interesting than you would guess!.......2006-01-16
I read all of Erin Zammett's columns in Glamour magazine, so when I came across this book I hesitated to read it - I didn't want to re-read everything that was in the columns. Plus, I thought, how interesting could reading about someone's cancer treatments be? Turns out, very interesting.
That's because this book is about much more than just Erin's cancer treatments. It's about her life as a whole, while going through some unusual and hard cirumstances. Ms. Zammett has a great writing style and manages to keep things interesting and fast-moving while instilling humor into the book and telling it like it is. It's obvious that she's very honest and makes no attempt to stay "PC." (She openly states that she lost weight while undergoing treatment, and still loves how she looks in pictures from that time period.)
This book is an easy, interesting read, and after finishing it you can't help but admire Erin and her family for what they've been through and feel a little bit grateful for your life as it is.
Witty and candid, a great read!.......2006-01-04
I am only halfway through this book, but I am already so impressed and cannot say enough good things about it! Erin Zammett is one of the most honest, witty writers I have seen, and her spunky attitude showcases itself all throughout the book! She is an amazing young woman with a zest for life that cannot be wiped out, not even by cancer. I strongly recommend reading this book, and I hope to see a lot more books from this talented young author!
easy to read, very informative..........2005-12-24
It was written with warmth and honesty...
I would highly recommend it for people who were diagnosed with leukemia or for the ones who weren't but still don't know how precious their lives are...
After I read this book, I really decided to make some severe changes in my life, and I started with being so grateful for every good things I have.
It should be handed out to the patients at every psycologists' offices to make the depressed ones feel better.

good, clean, fun.......2007-04-23
Lindy is the voice of one of the most popular cartoon characters on primetime television. It makes it difficult on a date when her escort asks what she does for a living because a request to "do the voice" always follows. Do they like her for her? Or the character she plays. Leo is a network executive who has been sent to save Lindy's show in the midst of bad ratings. The colorful cast of characters is rounded out by Nigel, the show's British creator whose scripts aren't what they used to be. Marilyn, Nigel's iguana, makes a Technicolor appearance. Kyle, one of the men in Lindy's life who can't seem to separate Lindy from her character.
This is an entertaining novel filled with humor and Christian values that encourages the reader to ask herself, "what's important in my life?"
My socalled love life.......2007-01-10
This was the first time a read a book by this author, but not the last. Usually, the main problem i have with Christian romance novels is the cheese factor, but this one was good, very little cheese to speak of. The characters were fun, real, and easy to relate to. Very funny chick lit, with not your typical characters. I finished this book in a day, laughing through most of it.
Fun read!.......2007-01-06
This book has romance, humor, and a great set-up. The main character has a great job... which makes it almost impossible for her to find a decent date!
She's the voice actress for a smart-aleck owl on a hit cartoon series. And as soon as her dates find out, they can't look at her the same way again.
This is a great Christian romance that was fun and easy to read. I read it in one day and wished it were longer.
Although, I have to tell you, I thought her co-worker, the nutty creator of the comic, was a lot more fun, and a lot more interesting, than the male lead.
Book Description
The result of a unique project organized by a school administrator, this photo essay captures the daily lives of a large group of California high school students. Two thousand students from across the state were given digital cameras and a time limit of one month to document, in pictures and words, their day-to-day experiences. As a part of the event, some students were bussed to schools in different parts of the state, including inner cities or rural or suburban areas. All of the students were able to communicate with each other over the Internet, sharing text, audio, photos, and video. Professional photographers, teachers, historians, and community leaders accompanied and advised the students, but the images, thoughts, fears, and hopes are theirs alone. This complex project tracks the students as they take on issues of identity, education, alienation, safety, technology, family, work, and friendship.
Customer Reviews:
I recommend this book.......2006-04-05
This book is likable for several different reasons....It provides a social anthropology of children and teens and allows readers to peer into the lives of diverse teens. Some quotes are eye opening and others are confirming of my perceptions of teens. The photos selected are very good and stand on their own merit. I like how this book is written and photographed by teens, so it's not like those dense theses by ivory tower scholars writing about what they think teens arelike.
How insightful!.......2005-10-28
I never realized how much life has changed for teens....this is a must read for anyone on marketing to teens.
