Book Description
1861. Volume 4 of 5. Lord Macaulay wrote this history of England from the accession of King James the Second down to a time which was within the memory of men still living. He recounts the errors which, in a few months, alienated a loyal gentry and priesthood from the House of Stuart. He traces the course of that revolution which terminated the long struggle between our sovereigns and their parliaments, and bound up together the rights of the people and the title of the reigning dynasty. Lord Macaulay relates how the new settlement was, during many troubled years, successfully defended against foreign and domestic enemies; how, under that settlement, the authority of law and the security of property were found to be compatible with a liberty of discussion and of individual action never before known.

To Read or Not to Read.......2007-10-12
While I do not recommend this book, I aim to give you a fair representation, so I will tell you the good alongside the bad. :)
The Good: This book, as with all books that I have read by this author, is an easy read. She has a way with words which keep you reading from beginning to end, even when particularly annoyed with the plot or details of the book. I find that quite a talent, as I do not take the time to finish many books that I dislike. This one, however, kept my attention. So if you are looking for an easy read on a hot day by the pool, buy this book.
The Bad: This part of my review may seem nitpicky if you are looking for a simple read and are not concerned with representations of Christianity in inspirational fiction, and if so, consider yourself forewarned. You may disregard the following and stick to the review in my first paragraph.
This book represents a very surfacy view of Christianity, and I found myself under the impression that the writer changed a few settings to youth group and church so that she could publish books within this genre. Other than those few references and lack of graphic content found in many mainstream romance novels, this could have easily been published outside the Christian fiction genre.
One scene in particular made me grimace, as it involved a teacher coming on to a student (kissing said student, as a matter of fact). Now yes, teacher knew student to be older, but student did not realize this fact. A teacher acting inappropriately toward a police officer posing as an underage student should inspire an arrest or investigation. Instead, the main character gives a fleeting moment of thought to the possibility of inappropriateness (probably for the benefit of people like me), then forgets any such thought altogether. Granted, this moment probably irked me the most simply because as a single woman, I would very seriously question the values of a man who I thought was trying to take advantage of a minor, whereas the main character (cop, to boot!) gave hardly a thought to the infraction.
Again, this may not be of concern to everyone. If it is not, by all means buy this book. My feelings will not be hurt, and the author will be thrilled. ;) I do hope my review was a bit helpful in any case.
gotta love those romance storys .......2006-02-03

Undercover Love.......2002-10-15
Angel is a twenty-six-years-old, but with a very little work can pass for a teenager. That comes in handy, because Angel is a cop. She is undercover in a high school trying to bust a drug ring. One of the prime suspects is teacher, Jake Weston. Angel is really pushing him. She flirts with him and acts like a teenager with a crush around him. The problem is she does have a crush on him.
Jake has seen problems with drugs at the school he teaches at. He is not sure what to do when he learns that Angel Morelli, one of the seniors is actually the same age as him. Perhaps she is involved in the problem. He watches her carefully, but at the same time is having a harder and harder time fighting his attraction to Angel, especially now that he knows she is old enough that it isn't illegal for him to date her.
Something big is about to break and Angel's going to be in the middle of it.
only read if desperate.......2001-10-25
Okay, so girl cop goes undercover at a high school, falls for cute teacher, who in turn finds her intriguing as well... hasn't this been done before? Really, though, if it had been done better it still could have worked. It was a little too predictable, plus if a teacher comes onto me as his student, I don't care who he is - my respect level wouldn't just falter, it would nosedive.
okay..........2001-08-03
This was one of those books that is good if you are going on a long trip...or busy watching kids by the pool...not really a book that will keep you up at night...

Murder at Veronia Springs Country Club .......2005-03-14
Elizabeth and Scott Sinclair are called in to investigate the murder of a millionaire at a golf course. Jessica and Nick[A.K.A. Perdita and Chip are also called in to investigate A guy,I forget his name calls Bruce"Mac The Hack" Bunny and her fiancee put Lime in their ice tea[Yuck!] It was funny the way Jessica was acting like a spanish girl. Scott asks what Elizabeth wanted from the Wizard of Oz Eizabeth required "A Story."
This book was entertaining.......2003-09-20
This book was definitely very funny. I especially like Jessica's part of the book when she was Perdita. She is not very good at disguising herself. Afterall, Lila figures out who she is. Tom is madly in love with Elizabeth, but Scott Sinclair is also closing in on Elizabeth's heart. Dana, on the other hand, is trying to make Tom forget about Elizabeth. If that is even possible.
Lila is desperately trying to be part of the Verona Springs Country Club and is even pretending the jerks who run it are very nice. Bruce is fed up with this and Lila fights with him. Bruce is sure Paul is going to get arrested for scamming the money from him. Little does he know, that Paul may have committed a murder.
My favorite part was when they were trapped in the van (thanks to Perdita, aka Jessica) and Paul was the one driving. Tom and Elizabeth realize they mean something to eachother. But that was only in the van. After that, well... you will have to read the book.
Good but..........2002-06-24
Not a bad SVU but I really wish Tom and Liz would just get back together! And yet another contradiction, Bruce Patman was a tennis star all through SVH and now all of a sudden he's a terrible player? What happened????
This book is excellent!.......2002-05-26
This is a wonderful book! Elizabeth, Scott, Jessica, Nick, Todd, Bruce, and Lila are all at Verona Springs, a country club for the rich. Elizabeth, Scott, Nick, Jessica, and Tom are there to investigate a murder, while Bruce and Lila are their to relax. Elizabeth and Scott are going undercover as themseleves, but pretend to be regular reporters. Jessica and Nick are going undercover as Perdita and Chip. Tom tries to use Dana to help him go undercover. This book continues what happened in Spy Girl. Undercover Angels is an excellent book. It's page turning and each person gets clues as to who the murderer is, but don't want to shareit, until the plot takes a drastic turn- and everyone's lives are in danger! This book also has nice romance. Although I wish Elizabeth was with Todd. Elizabeth and Todd forever! Anyway, this book also has a lot of comic relief, and their are some hilarious moments that will leave you in stiches. There are also romantic moments that will make you smile. This book is excellent!
An Okay Book.......2000-07-02
I thought that this book was qiute good but I am getting quite sick of Francine Pascal's ridiculous storylines. Otherwise, the whole mini-series was quite good.

Lovely light reading.......2001-02-15
This was my first Duets, but not my last. These are a very good length for light reading, a good idea.
"Undercover Elf" is the better of the two stories, perhaps because it has a lot more humor (though some of it is rather slapstick). "Unexpected Angel" has a really cute little kid, though, so perhaps they even out. It was a nice touch (and easy to do when the same author does both stories) that the stories intersected for about a paragraph apiece and took place in the same town.
Two totally different storylines (both are Christmas-oriented) offer wonderful heroes and interesting heroines immersed in unusual situations. The sex scenes were written very smoothly (something you don't usually find) and didn't overpower the plot. The sexual tension had all the emphasis, as it should have. I enjoyed the entire book.
Just one question: who the heck ATE all that food Holly made during "Unexpected Angel?" She was a full-blown bakery running at top speed, but there were only four of them in the house...
Youýre in for plenty of laughs.......2001-01-15
If you've read Kate Hoffman's books before, then you probably know you're in for plenty of laughs each time you sit down with one of her stories. True enough, Ms. Hoffman's December double Duets #41, UNEXPECTED ANGEL and UNDERCOVER ELF, lives up to the promise excellently! You'll get two delightful stories centering around Christmas that will leave you feeling cozy and warm and definitely smiling.
In UNEXPECTED ANGEL we are transported to Schuler Falls, NY where we meet seven-year old Eric Marrin. Now this sweet little boy would give anything to be able to have a `perfect' Christmas, just like it used to be before his mom walked out on him and his Dad. Eric's friend Raymond claimed that the Dalton's Department store Santa was the `real' one and he made wishes come true. Eric decides to visit the Dalton Santa and ask for the perfect Christmas. Well, imagine the thrill he feels when the doorbell rings a few days later and on his doorstep he finds his UNEXPECTED ANGEL, come to fulfill his dream of a perfect Christmas. Of course, once his father meets his Angel, Eric suddenly finds himself wishing she'd stay forever!
UNDERCOVER ELF introduces us to reporter Claudia Moore who wants to discover the secret behind the Santa at Dalton's Department store. Rumor has it that this Santa can make dreams come true. Claudia pitches her story to the New York Times and gains two weeks time in which to learn the identity of the mysterious benefactor. She goes undercover by applying for a position as Santa's elf at the store. However, due to a misunderstanding, she finds herself in a provocative discussion about lingerie with none other than the owner of Dalton's Department store which only leads to more interesting discoveries!
If you're looking for light and easy reads with loads of humor, you can't go wrong with Kate Hoffman's Duets #41, UNEXPECTED ANGEL and UNDERCOVER ELF. The characters will keep you glued to the pages and the laughter just doesn't stop. I found myself laughing out loud throughout both stories and plan to definitely read them again soon. The reason the stories stay in your mind for a long time is that Ms. Hoffman displays a brilliant talent to blend just the right amount of humor with tender-hearted and emotional stories full of characters that climb right into your heart and never let go.
Ms. Hoffman's sense of humor can only be compared to the finest wine - it gets better with each book she writes. Bravo Ms. Hoffman! I'm eagerly looking forward to your next release.
A cute romance...or two.......2000-12-12
Unexpected Angel: In Schuyler Falls, New York, all seven-year-old Eric Martin wants for Christmas is a return to the holiday season before his mom walked out on him and his dad. He even asks the Santa at Dalton's Department Store to arrange the former Christmas celebration that his mom used to arrange. This is one Santa who believes in performing and soon after the request, Holly Bennett is hired to spruce up Eric's holiday season. As Holly brings joy back into the lives of the Martin males, she falls in love.
Undercover Elf: Reporter Claudia Moore hears a rumor that the Santa at the Schuyler Falls, Dalton's Department Store makes wishes come true. She pitches her story to the Times and is granted two weeks to uncover the truth about a silent benefactor, an oxymoron in the age of media braggarts. After a misunderstanding with store manager Tom Dalton, Claudia is hired as an elf. Claudia plans to expose Santa as a fraud, which should not be hard since Tom only does the chore because his grandfather insists that is part of learning how to run their business. Neither Santa nor his newest elf expected to fall in love.
Kate Hoffmann provides her audience with two warm Christmas novels that are filled with magic due to the enchanting characters. Although Duets pulled a twist by having one author contribute both tales, it works as the stories interrelate yet cleverly stand-alone. Romance readers who relish an upbeat holiday story or two will enjoy these tales by Hoffmann.

Don't Waste Your Money!!!.......2007-10-10
For such an accomplished woman, it sure didn't show in her writing skills. I felt like I was reading some bad fiction romance novel. It seems like she used her "looks" and not her brains to move up the ranks in the police department. I would love to have some of the men of the department to write a book to tell us the real story. This book seems as fake as her picture on the cover.
No thanks!.......2007-07-28
Lisa has been through a lot and done a lot, but the pervading theme for me is her arrogance. She seems to think she's pretty amazing, and almost always manages to save the day. Although some of the situations were interesting, the arrogance was a total turn off for me.
READ IT!!!!!!!!!.......2007-06-28
Truly inspirational. I had to keep reminding myself that this is a true story!! Written from the heart. I hope the author writes another book really soon!
Lisa Lockwood is an inspiration.......2007-06-12
Lisa Lockwood is an inspiration to all women. She has been enormously dedicated to serving others without thought for herself. UnderCover Angel is the story of a woman who came from nothing and succeeded in spite of the odds against her. I've given Lisa's book to several women of all ages. I hold Lisa up as a shining example that a woman can serve her country, fight criminals, overcome the pain of emotionally abusive relationships to a woman who beats any obstacle to find the love of her life, her husband Rock Thomas and a happy, fullfilling life as a wife, speaker, and author. I highly recommend this gripping page turner to all.

Lisa needs to come clean.......2007-06-08
Lisa is a sweet girl, but she is really exaggerating much of this. She was never lacking in male attention, and had no problem getting her admirers to do whatever she wanted. Her problem was never breaking through gender barriers, because all the men she encountered were falling over themselves trying to help her and make her job easier. To work for seven years on a suburban Chicago police force like she did is not a career. Finally, Lisa was not a blond when I first met her, and if the pictures I see now are accurate, she has since enhanced herself in other areas, so to speak.

Undercover Angel.......2000-07-01
Undercover Angel is an earlier work by Suzane FOrster that is less suspenseful than her more recent books. This book has more realistic romance but still that "this could never happen in real life" edge. Recomended for those who can not get enough of this author, but not those looking for the nail biting sexual suspense she is know for in The Morning After.
