                Book Description

Being short with big boobs means living life off-balance. Isabel knows this all too well; at five-feet-nothing with a tendency to tip over in heels, she’s struggled for twenty-five years to make clothes, careers, and boyfriends fit.
Enter Michael. Divorced father, recovering alcoholic, and fifteen years her senior—he was the last guy she thought would make the cut. But when he proposed over a pastrami sandwich in a New York City deli on the anniversary of their first date, Isabel knew, improbably, that he was the one.

Fifteen mostly happy years and two kids later, Isabel walks into her living room to discover her husband dead on the floor, leaving her a widow at forty-one. At Michael’s funeral, a guest solemnly informs her that the official mourning period for a Jewish widow is thirty days. At that moment, Isabel can’t imagine a time when she will stop grieving. Not helping the process is this: as a single mom living in the very married suburbs, for the first time in fifteen years Isabel once again just doesn’t fit in.

It takes her younger daughter’s request for a new daddy to set Isabel on a journey through online dating, shifty matchmakers, and painfully orchestrated singles dinners. But after endless dates and a story on page three of the Daily News, Isabel begins to realize that another man may not be the answer and, surprisingly, that’s when things begin to change for the better. . . .

THESE STORIES are true. Although I have left the strict line of historical truth in many places, the animals in this book were all real characters. They lived the lives I have depicted, and showed the stamp of heroism and personality more strongly by far than it has been in the power of my pen to tell. Please Note: This book has been reformatted to be easy to read in true text, not scanned images that can sometimes be difficult to decipher. The Microsoft eBook has a contents page linked to the chapter headings for easy navigation. The Adobe eBook has bookmarks at chapter headings and is printable up to two full copies per year. Both versions are text searchable.

5 out of 5 stars I like Silverspot the best........2007-05-07

Seton is pretty well known for his observations of crows. How many words they use, for instance, some are in the story. He watched this particular group of crows for many years, a task made easier because of Silverspot's silver spot. Silverspot's group could tell the difference between someone with a folded umbrella and with a gun, behaved quite differently for the difference.

I gave a copy to a friend who hates to read (and does it quite badly) but who has lived in the country for years and enjoys watching crows.

It got read in one sitting.

                    Might not work for everybody.

                    5 out of 5 stars Happy Reencounter!.......2007-03-20

When I was growing up in Peru I read the animal stories of Ernest T. Seton with enormous pleasure. I read them in my mother tongue, German, without the slightest idea that they were translated, nor did I place them on the map of the world, I just read them as great animal stories!
I was very delighted to see that he is still in print, still in demand, and that now i can share them with my grandchildren!!!

A real tear-jerker!All of the animals die a tragic death. The book portrays the brutality and disregard that we humans hold for the natural world. BUT we are doing better these days.

2 out of 5 stars Wild Animals I Have Known.......2004-07-17

This is a reprinting of a book of wonderful stories by Ernest Thompson Seton. But buyer beware. The publisher has excluded all 200 of the author's sketches and drawings that help the stories come alive for both younger and older readers. In addition, the design of the book is amateurish. Type is spread across the page, with extra spaces between paragraphs, nothing like the pleasing style of the original editions. This is a lifeless shadow of an American classic.

5 out of 5 stars must read book to raise compassionate kids.......2004-03-18

I've read this book way back when I was a kid growing up in Russia. I cried while reading about the pidgeon's fate, was happy when the rabbit was released, filled with respect for Lobo the wolf... It was one of the books that I'll always remember as being one of the greatest collection of stories. The language is simple yet exquisite, and the story flows so smoothly, you can read past midnight and not notice.
Not only that, that book gave me a better understanding of animals - not as we humans tend to humanize animal emotions and actions, but as real animals think and feel. It definitely made me change my perspective on many subjects - my treatment of nature, of animals, even human relationships.
All that when I was in my early teens. All that without any grownup having to "have a talk" with me or me even noticing that I got a "better understanding" of things.

Now that my son is growing up here, I'm getting him his copy of the book, and I'm quite hopeful that it will bring him a lot of enjoyment as well as food for thought.

5 out of 5 stars Bad Boys Down Under Review.......2007-07-19

I really loved this book the only thing was that it took a really long time to get to me.

4 out of 5 stars Fun, fluffy read.......2007-02-16

This consists of three stories, which work best if read in order. I liked the 1st and 3rd best, but the 2nd was ok. The couples fall in love very quickly. I would have preferred a little more time spent building up to the falling in love. The love scenes are described so gently that these would almost qualify as young adult level. The guy in the 1st story is Cam, a high school dropout surfer who has a surfboard company and other businesses making him wealthy. He has a wild, fun personality. The guy in the 2nd story is a steelworker chosen to be a model in ads for Cam's surfboard company. The guy in the 3rd story is an accountant from California, who travels to Austrailia to do tax accounting work for Cam's company.

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as I'd hoped.......2006-08-28

Unless you are familiar with this author or like the less, ahem, graphic love scenes, you will be disappointed in this anthology. The stories were okay but not really that imaginative. Hard for me to get invested in the characters much.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Bad Boys Anthology.......2006-08-19

This book contains three stories that are best when read in order. The down-under theme is well written and provides a sexy back-drop. Warren does a pretty good job writing here and her loves scenes are -as always- very hot! The plots are a bit unrealistic and the romances are rushed, i.e. broken engagement and falling in love in a week? But I expected that with the stories being only 90 pages long each.

If your looking for some steamy stories and don't mind easily falling-in-love characters, this one's for you. It's similar to the other Bad Boy Anthologies.

                                    5 out of 5 stars 3 fun, sexy stories!!.......2005-10-29

                                    Sizzling in Sydney

Sexy, successful entrepreneur Cameron Crane wants to expand his surf business into the US market and has hired marketing whiz, Jennifer Talbot to develop a plan. Cam's plan is to seduce Jennifer when she arrives from San Francisco to gain control of their business relationship. But smart, bold, and sexy Jennifer is on to his game and doesn't fall into his bed. Cam finds her resistance irresistible and wooing Jennifer becomes his number one priority.

Cameron's Australian humor and earthy good looks are powerfully attractive. Cam just oozes charisma. His keen business sense only adds to his charm. His attraction to Jennifer is understandable, as she is clever and smart. I loved the humor and sensual love scenes. After reading this story I was eager for more!

                                    Surfer Boy

Lise Atwater, the ad-exec in charge of Crane's new American ad campaign is a work-a-holic. Her assignment is to take Australian Steve Jackson and turn him into the spokesman for Crane surf products. Due to a series of mishaps, hard working and serious minded Steve believes Lise to be an American party girl. From his picture, Lise is sure that the gorgeous Steve is a partying surfer using modeling to pay for his surfer lifestyle. Consumed with lustful attraction, will these two find they have a lot in common, including love?

Of all the heroines in this anthology, I am most jealous of Lise. Steve is a dream come true! Gorgeous, lusty and smart, I am crazy for this hero! Together these two are hot, hot, HOT! The love scenes are intense and I adored the romance between these two.

                                    The Great Barrier

Dumped by his fiance, Mark Forsythe is on the rebound. Arriving in Australia to re-vamp Crane's accounting division, Mark is determined to live the playboy lifestyle, a different woman every night. Imagine his surprise to find the delectable and free-spirited Bronwyn Spencer living in his temporary housing and seducing him with come-hither looks. Unable to fight his powerful attraction to Bron, Mark re-evaluates his playboy agenda. But will Mark let hurt over his broken engagement ruin his chance at love and happiness with Bron?

Poor Mark never knew what hit him! If I didn't know that Bron was exactly what he needed, I'd feel sorry for him. The lengths she goes to in order to scare off other women made me laugh out loud. Mark isn't exactly a push-over though, and I love how he protects Bron from her brother's anger. These two are perfect for each other and their love story is both sensual and humor filled.

Bad Boys Down Under is a terrific anthology. All three stories are fun, sexy and filled with romance. Each short story was well written and fully developed. Well worth the lost sleep! Having recently discovered Nancy Warren, this anthology confirms my opinion. Nancy Warren writes great romances!

I thought the book was very good but it made me mad how Nancy likes Mick rather then Frank. Frank didn't even seem BOTHERED by the looks Nancy and Mick gave each other. The mystery was a cool one but it wasn't exciting and it was kinda slow.
It was a good book but not the best.

This book is the coolest ! It is not only the most excellant book that I've ever read, but the most thrilling, too! Nancy Drew had to keep up with the Hardy boys in the first part, but they had quite a job trying to catch her up in the end! GREAT BOOK, CAROLYN!

This is a very good story. I just wish Keene would follow up on people in the stories in later books. Like Mick, you never get to see him again thus far in the series.

4 out of 5 stars Aussie Boys Are the Best!.......2006-05-13

"Aussie Boys" is Rusty Winter's collection of homoerotic stories (including a novella) of a similar sort published in 1987 prior to his even finer colllection of short stories of a similar sort published the following year (1988) under the title, "Aussie Hot". (Each of these has had subsequent printings.) Both collections are remarkable for their literary quality, something that, alas, one encounters less often than sexually explicit and arousing prose in gay erotic literature; Rusty Winter has both writing quality and sexually titillating abilities in spades!

The characters and circumstances in these stories, as in Winter's later volume, are piquant, highly atmospheric, and sexually highly charged, without, for the most part, being vulgar or stereotyped. The exceptions are stories involving Australian surfers (again, as in Winter's "Aussie Hot", fortunately, in the minority in this volume too), which have less originality and too much type-casted plot and character depiction, but even they are better than most gay surfer fiction. The stories have lots of variety, and their Australian setting, vocabulary (dialect, slang, lilt) will charm readers in the U. S. of A., as well as the U.K. and other parts of the Commonwealth. One assumes that Australians themselves may need less urging to read this to satisfy their gay and notoriously man-sized Aussie sexual urges!

The novella included, on pages [7]-91, titled "Lyndhurst Downs", is particularly beautifully crafted, capturing well the Australian rural setting, its rugged vegetation and terrain, as well as the characters, physiques, and speech (and, of couse, fornicating) habits of the protagonists, the chief of whom is a randy lad in his mid-teens with a taste for multi-orgasmic sex with his wealthy father's hired hands, most of this teen's lovers being only a few post-adolescent years older than he is. There is also, to droll effect, a smarmily libidinous (under his starchy but thin veneer of hypocritically clerical, social-climbing respectability) Methodist preacher-man, who, for all his outward show of piety that is part and parcel of his lofty ministerial calling, is equally handsome in the lean and brawny prime of life (with attendant, unquenchable sexual appetite, ephebophilically channelled, in his case!), and who is, of course, utterly, enthusiastically, potently, pederastically boy-loving. Although long in comparison to the short stories, this novella is sufficiently episodic that one can enjoy it over several nights, keeping it at one's bedside for one's own and/or one's partner's self- or mutual-arousal.

Highly recommended; however, buy Rusty Winter's "Aussie Hot" first, especially if the reader's funds are limited, since "Aussie Hot" is even more delightfully erotic, original, and often perversely comic than the similar and ever so entertaining "Aussie Boys" cargo of "tales of tail".

4 out of 5 stars Boy Down Under.......2005-03-16

Have you ever tried to explain something but you can't? Maybe you can't find the right words or maybe you don't really even know what happened. When Rowena (Ro) and her mother move to Sydney, Australia, Ro runs into a guy named Patrick Carroll. Actually, he jumps onto her balcony. Right away, Ro feels at ease around him, and she is having the time of her life. Everyday when she and Patrick go on a walk they end up in the most exotic places like, gorgeous gardens, outstretching deserts, and beautiful white sanded beaches. Wherever Ro goes, she sees Patrick. Ro is so excited about Patrick but scared at the same time. One day Hallie, Ro's friend from the United States, calls her. Hallie tells Ro she will be able to come to see her during Spring Break. Ro is ecstatic. She tries to tell Hallie about Patrick but her mouth won't let her. She is just not able to say his name to anyone. When Spring Break comes, Hallie goes to Australia to visit Ro. The first thing Hallie wants to do is meet Ro's unexplained boyfriend. While Hallie is in town, things begin to go wrong between Ro and Patrick.
I loved this book. It kept me wanting to turn the page and find the resolution to Ro's problem. The lesson is, if something is making you happy, other people won't necessarily share your happiness. This book takes you to the most exotic places while sitting your favorite chair.

4 out of 5 stars Boy Down Under.......2004-11-03

After being yanked from high school and all her friends when her mom takes an assignment in Australia, Rowena (Ro) is naturally lonely. Her heart's cry is heard by a strange young man who is literally beyond description and lands on her balcony. Although she can never remember what Patrick looks like and can't even say or write his name to tell anyone about him, Ro finds herself falling in love. It makes no sense at all, but he gives her all her dreams. When Patrick is around, time stands still and she can walk in the clouds. Is he a dream or an angel? Though he claims to be real, and even gives her roses that people can actually see, there is something mysterious about Patrick. Maybe he is not a ghost or angel, but he definitely is hiding something spooky.

**** I am almost reluctant to categorize this as young adult; it has a depth that you will only understand after reading it, but a magical quality that perhaps you must be at least a child at heart to grasp. Everyone needs a Patrick in there life, even if it's only in print. ****

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Paranormal Romance for Teens.......2004-10-01

All-American girl, Rowena - Ro - Maven, isn't completely excited when her Mother, Dr. Mold, informs her that the two of them will be heading to Sydney, Australia for a year, so that she can conduct a series of lectures in the great Down Under. However, Ro knows that she can try to make the best of it. After all, there are sure to be tons of hot guys with abs of steel, who surf daily along the beach in the bright sunshine. But boy is she wrong. In fact, everything in Aussie is completely boring - or gross, meaning the Roach Hotel she's forced to stay in - until she meets Patrick Carroll, who sppears out of nowhere one day. Soon, Ro has her very own boyfriend, but there's something strange about Patrick. In the blink of an eye the two of them are transported to secluded areas where they exchange ethereal kisses. But the strangest fact is that no one but Ro can even see Patrick, and she can't tell anyone about him, making her think that she could be imagining his presence completely. Then she does the ultimate wrong-doing. She tells her best friend Hallie, and suddenly he's gone. Leaving her to do nothing more than guess about where he could possibly have gone.

Sally Odgers is a wonderful new author to join the team of Smooch YA, as her vivid descriptions, and unique, yet magical situations and plotlines, are utterly unbelievable, and will draw readers in left and right. BOY DOWN UNDER is a lovely tale of first love, filled with a bit of paranormal phenomena, that will capture the hearts of romantics young and old within the first chapter. An absolute must-have for all.

When Dr. Craig is hurt in a stateside car accident, his agent needs a viable substitute to provide the series of lectures in Down Under. He chooses another client Dr. Mold to provide the talks. Dr. Mold takes her teenage daughter Rowena "Ro" Maven with her.

In Sydney, Ro finds herself totally bored until a strange teen Patrick Carroll falls from the sky. He begins to take her places that she can only dream of, a departure from the Roach Hotel that is Ro's reality. With a blink they are alone on secluded beaches and though he seems ephemeral, his kisses are realistic. With her best friend too far away in the states to help her, Ro has her first boyfriend, who no one else can see or even mention him to anyone. When she finally does he vanishes leaving Ro to learn who is the enigmatic Patrick and where did he go for she does not want to be without him?

This young teen romantic fantasy provides readers with an intriguing tale as the audience will wonder if Patrick is just a figment of a lonely girl's imagination and if not who and what is he.
