This book is part of a series of guides designed for adolescents interested in natural history and nature. The books are an excellent introduction to the Rocks and Minerals, Birds, Wildflowers, and Insects for children aged 8-18. Each guide is appropriately sized to fit in a field vest pocket. Readers who remember previous versions of these field guides from the 1970s that were dull and overly detailed will be pleasantly surprised. These books are arguably the most beautifully photographed and laid out field guides yet published for young people. Each book has an introductory section filled with interesting facts, descriptions of early naturalists, definitions of many of the terms used in the book, and a guide to using the field guide portion of the book. (...)Each field guide features 50 common species with photos and brief descriptions of many more regionally occurring insects. Brief discussions of threatened and endangered species are particularly valuable. Great first guides for children and adults with limited natural history background.
The Insect guide has excellent photographs and descriptions of common species. The photographs are very detailed and show the beauty of insects, rather than their gruesome aspects. Good descriptions and warnings regarding poisonous species. --Merri Martz
Customer Reviews:
Excellent guide.......2006-08-30
This superb little 159-page guide includes 47 pages describing a bit about naturalists, the history of bugs, their different types, how to identify and distinguish them--and even a few pages on endangered bug species.
What follows are 101 gorgeous, illustrated pages describing the appearance, habits and environments of everything from flies and grasshoppers to katydids and aphids. Kids also learn about boll weevels, moths and butterflies, and common pests and parasites like mosquitoes and ticks.
The book also includes a two-page glossary, two page list of additional resources, and a four-page alphebetized index.
A great starter book for insect lovers of all ages, but especially kids.
For your bug enthusiast and for those who aren't so enthused.......2002-08-12
I love this book. Filled with VIVID photographs, this guidebook is compact and durable and begins with a short introduction (a few pages) devoted to teaching about anthropods in general. We use this book all of the time, from identifiying bugs on neighborhood walks, excursions to area parks, or just in the backyard (and sometimes in the house). I can also credit this book for curing my son's phobia of insects. When we saw a bug he was scared of, we'd grab this book and identify it. Looking at the bug and identifying its parts and then being able to call it by name did wonders in alleving his fears! I do wish that this book had more information associated with each insect...such as what it eats and what eats it. But, as a beginner guidebook, this one is exceptional!
Incredible!.......2002-07-09
This is THE best field guide for kids. It has excellent photographs and covers many different types of insects, including some regional ones. It is not only appropriate for young children who can only enjoy the pictures, it is also a great book for older children, up to about 12 or so. Any child who has an interest on learning about insects, spiders included, will enjoy this book and its wonderful pictures.
The kids love it.......2001-12-11
As a hmoe schooling mom this has been an excellent tool for the kids. They can look up all the bugs they find at anytime the decide to go bug hunting. It is simple and easy to use. a wonderful resource.
Exquisite photos make for a great field guide.......2000-04-06
This book (actually the whole series) is wonderful! I have a 4 year old who just loves to page through it and examine all the different kinds of insects. We use this one to identify all the different kinds of bugs that we run into on our walks. The photos alone are worth the purchase price, but the descriptions are also wonderful. I think these are the best field guides out there.

Loving Books and Texas.......2005-08-18
Jessie Gunn Stephens obviously loves books, and her folksy guidance throughout this delightful volume has the warmth of an arm on the reader's shoulder. In an often whimsical and always wise voice, she captures a special feel for the intriguing state where she has lived her life.
This guide takes the reader on a pleasantly relaxed meander through the vastly different Texas landscapes, from the Big Bend to the Panhandle. The variety of books from this country is broad enough to include even paperback genres. Reading your favorite Texas books while traveling with A Book Lover's Tour makes a lovely vacation.

wOOt!.......2007-10-17
I loved this book.
I have shared custody with my daughter's father, so not all of the ideas were followed all the time. But when she was here, you betcha!
Combined with No-Cry Sleep for Toddlers, parents are pretty much set.
The info can be redundant, but it reinforces the importance of her ideas.
Yep, but it!
Best Potty Training Book Out There.......2007-05-21
Elizabeth Pantley's No Cry Potty Training Solution is one amazing book. She knows exactly what a parent needs to succeed in teaching their toddler to use the potty. I have twin boys and I never thought I would be able to get them to stop peeing on the floor and into a potty. Elizabeth's book helped me do that. The one thing that I like best about the book is that Elizabeth has real families telling their potty problems. Wow!!! I'm not alone, real people, real problems but with Elizabeth's help, a real solution. That is what I love about the No Cry Potty Training Solution. It is easy to follow and the quick reference guides are wonderful. Most importantly, Elizabeth eloquently describes that you don't have to follow a set standard on how or when you should potty train. She simply states that it is ok to follow your child's cues and do what works best for you and your family. Only you know your child best. I however, think that Elizabeth knows every child best. I recommend that if you are even thinking about potty training...look no further, run out and get this book right away. I promise you won't be able to put it down.
Okay book, if you do not have an extremely stubborn child.......2007-05-09
I really liked the take of this book....be calm, let the child lead, be calm, the child will not be ready until he/she is ready, be calm. Did I mention that a ton of this book is based on you? Like I said I did like the book, it was easy to read and made sense...EXCEPT if you have a totally stubborn child who absolutely refuses to go on the potty. There is no practicals on how to deal with problems like this. What do you do when your child is ready, but can not be bothered to stop playing? I think the book can be improved greatly by some practical answers other than maybe your child is not ready.
Another good book in the series.......2007-03-16
This book is very user friendly. Although many of the ideas I knew about I found Pantley's methods and explanations bring those into a new light. Using the new and the old techniques, my daughter almost trained herself by 32mo including night time. She has only had a hand full of accidents since she announced she would no longer wear diapers and she is now well over 3. There were definitely no tears shed for this adventure! I am using the same philosophy with my 2 year old niece and she is potty trained at home, only wearing a pull up out of the house and at bed.
A helpful book.......2007-02-09
I was anxious about potty-training my little one. This book helped me feel more prepared before tackling it. I like the quiz that helped you decide if your toddler was showing readiness signs- another way to eliminate the guesswork.
The author takes a low-stress approach and constantly reminds the parent that they set the tone for potty training. It CAN be a fun process for both you and your toddler.
Good information on potty chairs (pros/cons) and different prizes to incorporate in the learning process.
Book Description
Elizabeth Wakefield is about to say hello to an exciting new school. But first she has to say good-bye to everything--and everyone--she loves. Good-bye to Nina Harper, her best friend. Good-bye to Todd Wilkins, the ex-boyfriend who's stood by her through thick and thin. Good-bye to Tom Watts, the guy who broke her heart into a million pieces. But how can she say good-bye to her twin sister, Jessica?
Customer Reviews:
Good-bye Elizabeth?.......2005-03-14
Elizabeth and her new boyfriend Scott Sinclair are being accepted into a new school far away, but Tom Watts wants Elizabeth back.I think the school is in Washington or Something. Elizabeth and Tom get back together.
I LUV THIS BOOK!.......2003-01-07
This book was probably one of the most exciting SVUs that I have ever read (I've read through the whole serious including thrillers...u could say I'm OBSESSED!) well anyways....I'm soo happy that after all this time Tom and Liz FINALLY got back together! Its so romantic and exciting how they finally confess their true love to each other exactly as the plane is about to take off whisking Elizabeth away with the evil and horrible sleaze also known as Scott Sinclair. I was realieved when they finally told each other they Loved each other because I mean I have been reading "Your not my sister", "Breaking Away", and finally this one "Good-bye Elizabeth" and i am so glad they are finally together again because i definatly think that Tom and Liz belong together (this sounds tacky but its like they have a spiritual connection as well as a physical one) So newayz..if u like the SVU books this is a must read must have book! Enjoy peoplez!
almost good.......2001-03-09
i rate this book 4 stars i mean come on what in the world jessica was thinking anyway? she shouldn't have done that to tom 'coz she did not even thing of what will happen in the future. And what was scott doing anyway the day he and liz leaves it was like scott wanted to be at denver before they even ride to the plane. elizabeth's decision is good also because she's going to making a big mistake if she have the wrong choice.
so touching.......2001-01-06
i'd just like to say this book was as close to perfect as they get!! scott and elizabeth's plans have been changed (by scott) and they are leaving then next day!! jessica doesn't want elizabeth to go, and tom is completely desperate to get back together with her. dana and scott have joined forces to keep them apart, and dana does a darn good job of it!! elizabeth is still completely in love with tom, and is leaving mainly because she is so miserable. the ending is perfect- very emotional. i cried so much while reading this! not a good thing, since it was about 1 AM (that's how late it kept me up!) and i was absolutely sobbing!! this was, without a doubt, my favorite book from this series (and i've read a lot, believe me!) or even anywhere!
This was a teriffic book and one of the best I've read!.......1998-11-25
Good-bye, Elizabeth
Full of excitement and adventure Good-bye, Elizabeth is a terrific book. It is the thirty-eighth edition to the Sweet Valley University (SVU) series written by Francine Pascal, who is also the author of the series Sweet Valley Kids, Sweet Valley Twins and Friends, and Sweet Valley High. Francine Pascal's Sweet Valley University books are mainly for teenage girls, grades seventh through ninth, who like to read about the troubles of college life. All four of the Sweet Valley series are centered around two Californian girls as they grow up in Sweet Valley where they were born. The two girls, Elizabeth and Jessica, are identical twins, and they and their friends get into a lot of trouble and adventure. The SVU series takes place when the twins and their friends are attending college at Sweet Valley University. In Good-bye Elizabeth, Elizabeth is planning on leaving Sweet Valley University, for DCIR (Denver Center for Investigative Reporting) a college in Denver. Before she leaves she has to say good-bye to her twin sister Jessica, her best friend Nina Harper, and to Tom Watts, the guy who she will always love but who has broken her heart. Going to DCIR could be a big break for Elizabeth and her future, but can she really say good-bye to her friends and family? Can she really put the past behind her? Jessica is desperately trying to stop her twin from leaving SVU because she knows that Elizabeth isn't leaving because of her love for journalism and hopes for a better future, Elizabeth is leaving to escape Tom and the stress around her. Can Jessica stop her twin before it's too late? This book is very interesting and full of fun, romance, and adventure. This book teaches the true value of friendships, how difficult it is to face the truth, and how difficult it is to say good-bye. Good-bye, Elizabeth is one of the best books that I have read in a long time.
