OK book.......2000-12-28
I found this book to be very similar to the book "Whales, Dolphins and Porpoises" by the Nature Company Guide. My assumption was that it was an earlier print of the same book which has since been updated. My mistake! Anyway, it features most of the stuff found in the earlier mentioned book, minus the part where whale watching spots around the world are discussed. Overall an OK book.

A Truly Refreshing Guide!.......2001-03-01
I have travelled before using the "old standards" (Lonely Planet, Let's Go, etc), but I have never been fully statisfied by them. When I stumbled upon this series, I was amazed. They include so much information, it is like a god-send! It was a history lesson, language tutor, and travel guide all in one! Over half of the book was comprised of the history of the island, local slang, and the culture of the Kiwis. The travel section was not lacking by any means. It mentioned places other books did not, and give a through description of the listings, along with local signifigance. It had everything I'd ever dreamed a travel book would have. I'd recommend all the books in this series and I plan to use them exclusively for all my further travels.

Mass Fatality and Casualty Incidents: A Field Guide presents in checklist form the recommended responses to events that result in mass fatalities, such as the Oklahoma City bombing, the crash of a jet airliner, or the attack on the World Trade Center. All cities in the United States will have to have a mass fatality disaster plan in effect by the end of 1999. Mr. Jensen is a leading authority in this area and provides training for police, fire and hospital personnel (including EMTs and social workers), local, state, federal and international emergency planners and responders. This book details actions that are part of a mass fatality incident response. Specifically, they are the actions that begin once life and property preservation ceases and continues through to the release of the deceased. Thus, primary focus is on search, recovery, medicolegal investigation, personal effects operations, family assistance operations, and media operations. Ancillary steps include logistics support, security, responder protection, attitudes and coping with mass death.
Book Description
Jersey Barnes thinks she has retired from a risk-filled career as a private security specialist. A sexy, hard-hitting brunette, she’s ready to enjoy her newfound free time and is looking forward to leaving home without a weapon.
But when her boyfriend asks her for a simple favor, she can’t turn him down. What should be a routine surveillance job lands Jersey smack-dab in the middle of a high-stakes cover-up, a double kidnapping, and a scheme that may steal millions of dollars from hard-working Americans.
With input from her business partner, Ox (a Lumbee Indian whose savory looks she can’t quite ignore), a comedic group of her aging father’s poker buddies, a computer hacker named Soup, and a faithful dog, Jersey sets out to prevent what might be the cyber crime of the century
In Southern Fatality, T. Lynn Ocean serves up an action-packed, sun-soaked adventure set in the historic port city of Wilmington, North Carolina.
Advance Praise for Southern Fatality
“Ocean puts the D in dangerous.”
---John Hart, author of The King of Lies
“Southern Fatality reads like a string of firecrackers---one bang after another. The action is nonstop and the tone is smart and sassy. Jersey Barnes is a character with moxie, manners, and mental acuity--a protagonist to root for!
---Carolyn Haines, author of Penumbra and Fever Moon

amusing regional investigative thriller.......2007-09-20
Former military police officer Jersey Barnes became a private security investigator since leaving the marines. Now the South Carolina resident is considering retiring. However, while she muses about life after work with her boyfriend Bill, he asks her to take on a case. Bill's beautiful recently married friend Lolly wants to know if her wealthy spouse is already cheating on her.
Jersey wants to say no especially after seeing how lovely the blonde bombshell of a client is; but for Bill she takes on the case. Her first reaction is why a newlywed would cheat on such a lovely new wife. However, as she investigates whether the husband is a stud or a muffin Kersey instead uncovers diabolical plans to release a computer virus that would devastate a large bank and much more; she brings in her Carolina corps of pals to help her prevent a disaster.
Jersey and her eccentric crew turn SOUTHERN FATALITY into an amusing regional investigative thriller. Readers will enjoy the antics of Jersey's moralist Ox, former Federal IT guru Soup, undercover expert Trish, and the heroine's bluffing dad Spud and his greybeard poker pals. The fast-paced breezy story line is fun to follow as there is plenty of action, but it is because of the offbeat cast that fans will want more Jersey escapades in the Carolinas.

Customer Reviews:
Great Vintage MacKeever.......2004-04-25
This is a reprint of one of Maggie MacKeever's earlier books for Fawcett Crest, and a very funny book, as well as typical of what the earlier Regencies were. Don't know what the 'cheese-grater' person expected, but I laughed out lout reading this story and would advise anyone with a sense of humor and an appreciation of Regency England to read Fair Fatality and any other MacKeever books they can find!
Maybe Better Than Running Your Knuckles Over a Cheese Grater.......2003-02-01
Sara Valentine, once a country beauty who did not "attract" during her Season in London during the Regency, i.e., did not attract a desirable match, is in the opening of the book a much put upon companion to a Gorgon of the Duchess. The Duchess has given her the task of trying to reign in the Duchess' neice (and Sara's old friend) the widowed Lady Easterling. Lady Easterling, the much petted younger wife of a sporting lord, is a hoyden with a vocabulary that is largely made up of Regency slang. And that is a problems with this book.
Regency slang was used by the characters of Georgette Heyer's books appropriately and in moderation. The author of this book seems to have absorbed all of the slang phases in Heyer's dozens of books and then spewed them all out at once. Even characters who normally wouldn't use the phrases use them. You could drown in Regency slang in this book.
While the book is not terrible, if you haven't read dozens of books by Georgette Heyer, I would suggest that it is a bit hard for a novice Regency reader to get through without recourse to a slang dictionary.
Besides being given to slang, Lady Easterling is also annoying as she rushes headlong from one solicism to the next. The plot is nothing extraordinary.
As an experience I think this book is a few steps above running your knuckles over a cheese grater.

The definitive account of the 1927 tragedy and its legacy at Baylor University
Customer Reviews:
Great Story Still Waiting for Its Definitive Account.......2007-08-25
As a Baylor graduate, i am quite interested in the subject matter of this book(let). And while Copeland should be commended for what appears to the first and only book about the Immortal Ten, it is not much more than a long magazine article. The research is adequate, but this reader came away still hungry for more details about the people involved. The Immortal Ten is a great tragic story and deserves an even more in-depth account.
For now, though, we Bears will have to be content with this.
Definitive account of tragedy.......2007-06-08
It was great that this book has been written. My father played basketball for Baylor in that era but happened to lay out that year to earn money to go back. I had heard him speak of this many times since he knew all the players.
The book is well written and thorough and most interesting.

Book Description
When Rose was invited to spend the weekend at Angelica's beautiful summer home, she had plans to just enjoy the luxury the pool, the horses, the expensive cars. It was a chance to live like a princess, if only for a weekend. It didn't turn out that way, though: somebody ended up dead. That was four years ago, but now the police have reopened the case. They have Rose's diary and she has to get it back.
Customer Reviews:
Secret in a Diary.......2007-06-14
Four years ago, when she was twelve, Rose went away for a weekend with Anjelica, an extremely rich and popular girl. Anjelica's father drove them to the family's lakeside compound, stopping on the way to have a shouting match with his business partner while the girls waited in the car. After the weekend was over, the business partner, Frannie, was found dead with her head crushed by a rock. There was no doubt it was murder, and Anjelica's father was the prime suspect. Rose and Anjelica were both interviewed by the police and both insisted they didn't know anything and hadn't seen anything, but the police assumed they were covering for Anjelica's father. The case was dropped with not enough evidence to prosecute.
Now, though, the case has been reopened. Police visit Rose's house and Rose's mother offers them the diary Rose used to write in when she was twelve, thinking there might be some sort of clue in there that would help. Rose is desperate for the police not to read what she had written, though, so she steals the police car and drives it to dispose of the pages in the diary. Now police are absolutely certain that Rose was a witness to something, and they are putting the pressure not only on her, but on all of her friends as well. What did Rose witness? Why won't she confide in anyone?
I liked the suspense of trying to figure out why Rose was so upset at the thought of people reading her diary. This book showed realistically how adolescent girls interact; the flashbacks to [...] and how badly the girls treated each other seemed completely accurate. I really liked the way the ending all came together, although it seems Rose could have saved herself a lot of trouble by confiding in someone.
Pretty Good.......2006-03-24
This book had a very, very slow beginning.I mean, Rose stole a police car to get her diary away from the police. But... you don't have any idea what she wrote in the diary until the last few chapters. Then, what she wrote in her diary was really dumb. OK i can see why she took the diary but WHY did she have to steal the car!!! OTHER THAN THIS THE BOOK WAS REALLY REALLY GOOD ND I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN:)
Fatality review.......2006-03-14
An accident had happened several years ago, but now the case has reopened and now she is forced to give up her diary for evidence.
Ms. Raniere- pd 1,2,8,9.......2006-01-18
In the novel, Fatality, by Caroline B. Cooney, Rose is caught in an intriguing police investigation. When the book begins, we meet Rose, a young girl who is contemplating stealing her diary back from the police officers who took it. What precious words are written in the diary, we don't know, but they must be important. Rose is being interrogated in a murder investigation and refuses to speak, only sharing that she "didn't see anything." Yet, with the retrieval and destruction of her diary, the police and her parents can hardly accept that answer. They assume that she must know something and that it was written in her journal, but no one can get it out of her. Through this tangled web we meet Rose's parents, her brother Tabor, and her school friends/acquaintances, Chrissie, Alex, and Anjelica, whose father is also involved in the investigation. As the reader learns more, the case begins to unfold and things become clear, but, we are still left in the dark about the diary entry. Does Rose know something and had she written it down? Who is she protecting? When Rose almost gets run down by a dark truck, her family urges her to give up whomever it is she is protecting. Unfortunately, it might be too late...
I don't typically enjoy thrillers, but I was hoping to read a good one to get into them. Unfortunately, I'm still fishing for the perfect thriller to grab and hold my attention. Fatality is not your typical thriller. It takes place after the crimes have occurred and therefore, is not very suspenseful. The ending is unexpected, yet not climactic enough to be satisfying. I liked that Cooney put in a few different conflicts to spice up the story, but overall, it just didn't do it for me. On a positive note, the plot was intricately woven involving many characters in a few different story lines. Also, it was nice that the plot didn't just involve murders, chases, and escapes like some others in the genre. Ultimately, I liked the book and would recommend it to my students. But if you're expecting a suspenseful and compelling story with many twists and turns, this isn't the book to choose.
Thrill giver.......2005-04-04
I liked the book a good bit because I didnt know when she was going to screw up.I didnt like the book becausei kept getting confused but that is just my opinion. The book has a slow beginning but it catches on.The bookis also not the longest nor the shortest book.If you like thrillers you might want to read it.
Book Description
Few figures in American history are accorded greater honor than the military commander at the head of his troops. This study identifies and recounts the careers of those men who have given their lives while serving as general officers from the beginnings of our nation's military history to the present day. In addition to offering profiles of American military heroes, the study also provides a basis for consideration of some of the ways in which military leadership techniques have changed over the years. Biographical information for each general officer includes year of birth, branch of service, and state from which the officer entered the service, a brief synopsis of preservice and service achievements, and an account of the cause and circumstances of death. The highest rank held with date of commission and specific date and place of death are given for every officer, and each entry closes with a list of sources.
Product Description
This up-to-date and comprehensive electronic book on CD-ROM presents an incredible and totally revised collection of important federal documents, guides, and publications about DNA evidence for criminal investigations and human remains identification, with encyclopedic coverage of every aspect of DNA testing and analysis. DNA analysis is the gold standard for identification of human remains from mass disasters. Particularly in the absence of traditional anthropological and other physical characteristics, forensic DNA typing allows for identification of any biological sample and the association of body parts, as long as sufficient DNA can be recovered from the samples. This is true even when the victim's remains are fragmented and the DNA is degraded. While many effective laboratory protocols are available for DNA analysis, the analytical portion is only one part of the identification process. Special attention is required for: sample collection, preservation, shipping, and storage, tracking and chain of custody issues, clean, secure laboratory facilities, quality assurance and quality control practices, managing the work, DNA extraction and typing, and more. Mass fatality incident topics covered include: reference sample collection, extraction, amplification, analysis, initial response considerations, arriving at the scene, processing the scene, identification of human remains, medical examiner, coroner, morgue operations, and antemortem data collection. There is extensive material from the U.S. Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice (NIJ), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Laboratory, National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Office of Law Enforcement Standards (OLES), Armed Forces Institute of Pathology Department of Defense DNA Registry, and the full record of the recent National Commission on the Future of DNA Evidence. Forensic DNA topics covered include: What Every Law Enforcement Office
