Product Description
Divulges the real strategies used by professional poker players to consistently win major (and minor) no-limit hold 'em tournaments. With poker tournaments televised on more than a dozen television networks and internet poker sweeping the nation, the popularity of the game is at an all-time high. Everyone thinks they have a shot, as evidenced by the 5,600+ player field in the $10,000 main event at the 2005 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. If these weekend warriors hope to win, they'd better know the same strategies that the pros use. Authors Blair Rodman and Lee Nelson, both poker professionals, spill the beans about the strategies they (and most of the big-name poker players) use to keep scooping the pots.

help in the wsop.......2007-09-16
I found the information contained in Kill Phil useful & productive.
It can provide another weapon in the arsenal of a serious poker player.
No system of play can substitute for hours of practice, lots of reading,
and constantly striving for improvement in your game. I experimented with Kill Phil in the recent WSOP Ladies circuit event in Tunica and went from placing 27th last year to placing 18th this year. Aside from the basic Kill Phil system, the book contains advice & a tournament overview
from two people who have been there. Of the many poker books I have read,
I found this one very worthwhile!
There's a very important concept here........2007-09-14
While reading this book, the reviews, online message boards, and playing constant online tourneys, it has occurred to me that there's a very important concept here. Namely, is there a mathematical basis for going all-in anytime you deside to play a hand?
I can see how these ideas were derived. For instance, suppose I have AK, and you have QJ, well since the status quo is for me to win, if neither of us improve, I'll win. On the other hand, IF you pair Q or J and I don't pair A or K, then you'll win. The same is true whether or not you hold 8 5. Also, obviously, if either of us draw to a straight or a flush we'll win, but if we both do, I'll win. And so on.
So, I can see how there might be some logic to going all-in with 8 5 as easy as one would go all-in with AJ. But here's where it comes back to reality. Even though it's true that if no one has a pair we both have the same odds of pairing something, that doesn't mean that the better hands won't win in the long run.
It just throws a giant monkey wrench into the picture in the short run.
So, what's the moral of my message? This book presents a legitimate point describing a way to try and win a tournament. Whether or not it works is debatable, so go ahead and try it if you like.
I think the better players will come out on top anyway, and shouldn't be so quick to condemn this method.
Can't complain.......2007-07-08
The first time I used the strategy in this book, I won a 180 player tournament. Hard to argue with those results!
Phil Killers.......2007-06-12
I found this book very interesting. Not a bible, however, an interesting read that may well help me in future, I don't think it's the ultimate info, but another piece of artillary!
Like all 'how to' books, no one, no one would give up 'the nuts' of a system. They would keep it too themselves!
Not much help.......2007-02-19
I play a lot of poker and developed a successful method over the years without books. Playing this strategy after reading though, my ROI in tourneys went way, way down.

My special little book.......2005-09-19
Can't find this small book on bookstore shelves; immense help to me through the stages of grieving..first for the death of my spouse, then my mom.
Safe Passage - A Lifeline.......2001-05-26
When my mother was diagnosed with terminal stages of colon cancer, our family was literally innundated with "grief coping" books. Being an avid reader, and desperate for anything to help make sense of the chaos and pain, I read them all. SAFE PASSAGE is the only one I have kept and have recently ordered several to have on hand to share with friends. This book is composed of short meditations that are appropriate for all stages of griefwork. I continue to refer to my copy, some nine months after her death. I find that this is a "living" book, with certain passages speaking exactly what I'm feeling, every time I read it - be it a week after her death or months after. Moreover, it is not specifically geared towards the loss of a parent, spouse, child, etc - my stepfather has found it as wonderful as I have. This book has been a lifeline to our family.
Penetrating and Practical.......2000-02-11
I do not know Molly Fumia, but I do know the subject of grief. I wrote THE JEWISH WAY IN DEATH AND MOURNING. I have never read so profound and beautiful a work on this subject. I underlined it all, and ordered another clean copy. It is memorable; a work of art, a Divine inspiration.
Very Helpful.............2000-01-30
This was one of the first books on Griveing I had bought. It was a Great "pick". The everyday "passages" hit right how I felt. The words were very comforting and like the author was writing this book for me to try to understand all the feelings and the "loss" I was going though. I Highly recommmend this book for a person who is going through a Loss of a Loved one.
Safe Passage.......2000-01-07
This book was given to me by a good friend after the death of my husband. It got me through that first year. I have given this book to several of my friends who have been widowed. I intend to give it to another friend who just lost her husband. It helps ... it really helps. It is short and to the point. One page a night was what I could handle but it made all the difference. This is a book that every widow or widower should recieve.... it helps you to not feel so alone.

Take This Advice: The Best Graduation Speeches Ever Given
ASIN: 059050956X |
Book Description
Graduation day is perhaps the most prominent rite of passage in America. This collection of inspiring commencement speeches by Carl Sagan, Dr. Seuss, Gloria Steinem, and other leaders in politics, sports, and the arts will help graduates recall the spirit of the event.
Customer Reviews:
An average book.......2007-04-08
This book has even less good speeches than that of "Graduation Day." There are just too many speeches that are convenient for the speakers and not primarily spoken for the benefits of the graduates. Also, there are a lot of bland speeches.
With this said, there are a few good ones in this book: The speeches by Robert D. Ballard and Marian Wright Edelman are the best. The one by Neil Simon is also pretty good.
The best book so far on graduation speeches is "Graduation Moments."

Grand Insights from a Great Theologian.......2003-07-04
The late Catholic theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar (1905-1988) was a giant of the twentieth century and a favorite of John Paul II who named him a cardinal shortly before Balthasar passed away. In this short book, Balthasar fields questions posed in an interview by an Italian friend. While Balthasar has bequeathed us an extensive legacy of theological writings, this interview provides the reader with an enticing look at the mindset and fundamental orientation that motivates his theological perspective. In the course of the interview, Balthasar chastizes the declining religious orders, praises the new ecclesial movements, bluntly exposes the pretense of confused Catholic theologians, and emphasizes the importance of the papacy and the avoidance of an "anti-Roman attitude." Readers will not regret this introduction to the work of a great Christian and theologian.

"I challenge you to realize that whatever you have or haven't been doing for fitness is most likely very wrong," says fitness expert Edward J. Jackowski. Hold It! You're Exercising Wrong aims to separate exercise fact from fiction in an easy-to-read format of 156 tips plus "the ultimate workout." Some of Jackowski's points are startling, like, "You could walk from New York to California and still not be fit," and, "For certain body types, step classes and stair climbers will actually increase the size of your buttocks, thighs, and hips."
Jackowski's tips sometimes motivate you to get moving ("If you don't find time for fitness, sooner or later you'll have to find time to stay home and be sick"), and sometimes educate you about an effective program ("When starting out, it's more important to increase your time than increasing intensity"). He recommends different exercise programs for different body types, which he renames "cone" (big on top, slim hips), "ruler" (hip and shoulder width are similar, few curves), "spoon" (small on top, wide hips), and "hourglass" (solid and thick in upper and lower body, smaller waist). Each type requires different exercises to shape up and slim down, which he describes. --Joan Price
Book Description
Hold It! You should know that:
- Walking is not one of the best exercises and will never get you fit
- For certain body types, stair climbers will not trim your thighs and buttocks or give you slim hips
- You do not need expensive health club memberships to become fit
- You do not need to exercise for more than an hour a day to lose weight or increase your fitness level
Hold It! You're Exercising Wrong analyzes popular exercise techniques and explains why they do or do not work. Using his client-proven methods of fitness, Edward Jackowski renames body types and stresses their importance when choosing an exercise routine, details the four essential phases of any workout, lists the best exercises for weight loss, and provides motivational techniques to keep you going. Interspersing more than 150 tips on health and exercise, Hold It! You're Exercising Wrong is a no-nonsense, all-you-need-to-know guide to getting fit and staying that way.
Customer Reviews:
Good common sense advice - but be wary of hype.......2005-05-28
This book is oddly structured - it seems to have no organization other than what the author was thinking of at the time. Lots of his tips are good common sense advice and could serve as a wake up call to anyone stuck in a fitness rut.
However, the author contradicts himself occasionally (mostly on the effectiveness of certain aerobic workouts like bicycling) and at other times gives outdated advice (he thinks stretching out after a workout is unnecessary). Odd, considering he says earlier in the book that everything in it is "true."
My recommendation? Read this book like you would take advice from your really athletic friends: Good, common sense, practical advice. Just realize you don't have to accept it, use it, or believe in it all. Use what works and reject the rest.
One of the best exercise books ever, and I should know.......2004-10-21
As an editor and writer for major men's fitness magazines, I have seen it all in exercise books. I don't write many reviews here on Amazon.com of these books. There are just too many that are the same.
This one is truly different. A concise guide that is well-designed, it lists a series of tips under various categories, such as cardio exercise, back pain, home fitness equipment, fat, fitness after 50, etc. I still refer to it from time to time.
It is a no-nonsense, no-fluff guide with no particular angle to push. Just good, real-world information from a pro who knows what he's talking about. I don't like books with lots of photos on how to do the exercise, because I've been to the gym for years and know how to do them all. But if I want to remember how many calories are burned per hour playing racquetball, or specifically how to distinguish muscle pain from soreness, it's here. The book is good to read through when you get it, then keep handy as a reference book when you need it.
This is a timeless book for both men and women, at any level of exercise experience.
A complete, non-boring routine that tones the entire body.......2003-08-01
Finally an exercise routine that isn't boring and truly gets you fit. Both my husband and I equally enjoy the variety and scope of the exercises. Each set of exercises is broken up by a jump rope segment - and don't underestimate the power of the jump rope! It truly is the most efficient and effective aerobic exercise ever! I completely changed by body shape. I was never overweight, but had fat deposits on my hips and buttocks. Within 2 weeks I lost 4 pounds, but more importantly went from a "spoon" shape to a slender, toned, and proportioned body. My husband also lost weight and his muscles are tight and toned. I credit this book for extending our lives and keeping us "fit for life"! Jackowski may be overly zealous regarding the jumprope, but having tried it, I'd have to agree. It may not be for everyone, but you should give it a try because it works!!
This.......2002-08-01
This book was only written for the author's self-promotion, and that of his company. His theories often make no sense, and are never supported with scientific or documented empirical proof. Of course certain pieces make (common) sense, but you can find many much better fitness and weight-control books. Don't bother about this one.
I wonder what kind of PHD does Mr. Jackowski have?.......2002-04-15
As a Physical trainer with an advanced degree in Exercise Science and several national certifications I find this book egregiously misleading. The author spewes out 'fact' after 'fact' with no scientific basis (except for his own practical experience!). If you buy this book please take his word with a grain of salt. In addition, there are several exercises depicted in this book that will cause more harm then help.
The only reason I give this book 2 stars is for his body type descriptions....they are easy to understand and extremely marketable.

terrific time travel romance.......2007-04-19
i LOVE time travel romances, especially with a regency setting. Also, this is the first book i've run into which features a strong, independent, non-virgin heroine and 2 honorable men who want her, attributes I always look for in romances, esp. for non-virgins as heroines. You don't find many romances with BOTH men being honorable, usually one is honorable and the other is a beast, which is what i hate most about these formulaic romances. i mean, come on, at least give us what we women want, 2 GREAT guys competing for the strong-willed non-virgin heroine.
A modern American woman gets off the plane in England and suddenly finds herself in Regency England in Regency clothes. She apparently is taking the place of a rich german baronness heiress who flees war-torn Germany for America and after her father dies, she is told to go to England. Her dying father appointed an earl as her "guardian" for one year, hoping that the lord and she will marry, but the dying father didn't realize the lord had already married, and when she comes to learn about her inheritance and the requirement that Justin must be her guardian when she's well over the age of adulthood, Justin (the lord earl) is angry. She doesn't understand where his anger comes from until she learns that his wife is having an affair with another man and that their marriage is in ruins and that Justin is attracted to Marlena. This shows up in his anger and jealousy over Marquis Radford the rake who chases after Marlena. Both men love her, but she's a modern woman. Justin can't understand why she must act like a man (why, because she's a modern woman???) and challenge him constantly when most Regency ladies would be grateful to have a man handle their financial matters and yes, Justin is honorable and respectable in everything he does.
Radford the rake leaves her burning for more of his kisses, but she can't give in to a rake.
Both men try to pull her their way and take action when necessary, leaving her stunned. it's definitely action-packed.
I personally would have chosen the other man, but then, you have to read the book to know who she chose!!
Love the book!! i hope the author makes more of these types of books.
A passion across centuries . . ........2004-08-05
Having read and loved another of Ms. Simon's books (_Love Once In Passing_), I was really thrilled to stumble upon another on my last trip to the bookstore. Keeping that in mind, I had high hopes for this book and thankfully I wasn't disappointed.
As with the previous book I'd read, I was pleased to note that _Hold Fast To Love_ was a time-travel romance. Time-travel has always been one of my favorite genres, but not all of the books are well written. That's definitely not something that can be said for this book. Also, considering it was written in 1982, it seems to me that the author was very ahead of her time.
The book starts in 1982 with Monica Wagner on an airplane heading for a vacation in Europe. Within just a few pages, Monica and the reader both are swept back in time to Regency England. And, while it might have been nice to get to know Monica a bit more in the 'present', it was really exciting for the action to start so quickly. Almost immediately Monica realizes that she's somehow been thrust into the life of Baroness Marlena von Mantz, a woman who not only looks like her, but has several eerie similarities in her life experiences.
I'm not usually a fan of first-person narrative, but I feel it was very appropriate for this book. It gives the reader a very clear view of the thoughts and feelings of Monica as she adjusts to her new life.
The characters are extremely well-drawn. Monica handles her daunting experience in the past with a cool, calm reserve that only breaks under the most strenuous circumstances. She reacts so much better than I would in a similar situation. The reader comes to know Monica as a strong, independent and remarkable woman. Both men in the book who pursue Monica -- the Baroness's guardian Justin and the recalcitrant rake Radford -- are worthy of a woman like Monica and you'll be just as hard-pressed to choose between them as Monica herself is.
Though some parts are a bit tedious at times, overall the book was enthralling. I literally couldn't put it down. From the time-travel mystery to the other, more pressing mysteries as Monica takes over the life of a 19th century Baroness, the action rarely stops and even three pages from the ending you'll still be unsure of the outcome.
Although I do believe a bit more time could have been spent after our heroine chooses her hero, all in all _Hold Fast To Love_ was an engaging, enjoyable read. It cemented my faith in Ms. Simon's ability. She's not an author to be missed.
