        Book Description

The Physical Geography of Southeast Asia examines the complex mosaic of physical environments which comprise Southeast Asia, and the current environmental problems and management practices which have arisen in this part of the world. The book is in three sections. The first section introduces the basic environmental components (geology, landforms, rivers, vegetation, and others) across the entire region. The second section discusses specific environments that are characteristic of this assemblage of continental and maritime landscapes (volcanic islands, coastal environment, granitic terrains, karst, etc.). The third and final section illustrates the ecological relationship between the environment and people (volcanic hazards, urban environment, coastal zone development, coral reefs, and others). The physical environment of Southeast Asia is examined at different levels, covering a world region that ranges from ancient, stable landmasses to dynamic, unstable plate boundaries, from aged, primary rainforests to brash, vibrant, resource-demanding built environments. Southeast Asia has been perceived as a laboratory for studying plate tectonics. It is an assemblage of large river basins, peninsulas and archipelagos, and seas surrounded by islands. It is an area of great physical variations where parts of the physical environment have been significantly degraded anthropogenically, following rapid population growth and development. In large parts of the region, the forms and processes on land and offshore should no longer be seen as entirely natural. As this book repeatedly illustrates, plate tectonics and people are both important contributors to the physical geography of Southeast Asia. The contributors to this volume are distinguished, scholarly, and have a long association with Southeast Asia. The chapters are not only skilfully built on state-of-the-art research findings but also include new material from the on-going research activities of the authors. The book goes beyond being the first comprehensive and detailed volume of the biophysical geography of Southeast Asia in that it also deals with the tropical environment and the relationship between environment and people in a rapidly developing world region.

Daniel took last look at his bedroom. He grabbed his suitcase and his sleeping bag his mother work days at the coner cafe in town. it took them a year to save up enough money to send Daniel to Eagle nest in the Premonition Moutains. Daniel didnt want to the camp. His dad died in the Rocky mountains with his uncle smitty. There is a bigstorm while they are driving and the wind almost blew them off the road. Have you ever been thrown into a river in a car when it is sinking? Well Daniel has in Danger on Midnight River by Gary Paulson. Daniel is with some of the boys from his school. Although he does not like them, he still helps them on their adventure. If you want to find out if Daniel survives you will have to read the book Danger on Midnight River.
The age group for this book is between 10 & 12. This book is very adventurous, and it is also helpful for camping. One of the weak points in this book is the ending. And one of the strong points is the crash.

Danger on Midnight River by Gary Paulsen is an adventure story. Daniel was a strong swimmer, but the swift-moving current was too much for him. It was all he could do to keep his head above the surging waves. A couple of times he thought he heard someone yelling. But for now he had his own problemes. The river was freezing cold and it offered no way out

5 out of 5 stars Read This Book!!.......2005-02-10

Danger Along The Ohio by Patricia Wills'. This book takes place on the Ohio River in 1793. The main characters are Amos Clara and Jonathan. Their mother died after giving birth to Jonathan. Now all they have is a father. Amos, Clara, and Jonathan have a very playful pet cow.

In Danger Along The Ohio Amos Clara and Jonathan get separated from their dad during a heart stopping Indian attack! The problem is they can't find him. My favorite part is when they escape the Indian attack.

I recommend this book to a friend because it is packed with excitement and interest. I give it 5 stars because it is really exciting but it is a little slow at the beginning of the book. Patricia Wills' books are very interesting.

4 out of 5 stars Danger Along the Ohio.......2004-11-03

My book was about three kids, Clara, Jonathan, and Amos trying to survive in the wilderness. They have been separated from their father and their home. The Indians set fire to their flatboat on the Ohio River. All three kids run for their lives while their father is fighting. The only food they have is nuts, and milk from their cow. After a week of walking they are captured by Indians. The Indians didn't kill them because Amos saved an Indian that was drowning in the Ohio River because he was shot and he was too weak to save himself. They named him Red Moccasin because when they found him he was wearing a Red Moccasin on his head.
The Shawnee Indians wanted Clara, Jonathan, and Amos to part of their tribe. So they stayed with the Indians for two days. They thought they were doomed, they thought their lives were over! Then that night white men attacked the campus. While the war was in session the three of them escaped very quietly, then about a mile away a white man found them. The next thing you know Red Moccasin has a gun at Amos's forehead. Then he remembered how Amos saved his his life, he changed his mind. They asked the white man if he knew their father, he said their father was still living. i think this book is a fifth grade book. This book was very fun to read! It was a great adventure!

This book contains a great mix of charaters and plots. Even though they could of jazzed it up a little it was stil a ture and great story for education, intrest, and fun. The book was a travel along the ohio most of the time.

5 out of 5 stars 3 children, separated from their dad, travel the OH river........1999-01-10

Danger Along The Ohio by Patricia Willis is an excellent story about pioneer life in Ohio during the mid to late 1700's. This book is full of adventure that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat! It is a book you will not want to put down once you begin reading it. The language in this book is wonderful. It is full of similes, metaphors, imagery, onomatopoeia, and more. This book also provides the opportunity to discuss how the white pioneers viewed the Native Americans, and vice verse. For anyone who wants to know more about Ohio life during this time, this is a perfect book. Kids love it!

                      Book Description

Lucas held the chisel under Eric's nose and said, "We've got some friends coming here in a little while. If you make a single sound, I'm going to hurt you real bad. Understand?"

When Eric Douglas heads down the Buffalo River in his canoe, he thinks he's left the outside world behind. For the next week he'll be canoeing and camping -- enjoying the fresh smell of the surrounding woods, landing an occasional bass for supper, listening to the reassuring crackle of the evening campfire. And his biggest problem will be keeping his overactive little brother, Robbie, out of trouble.

But when Eric stumbles upon a car-theft ring operating out of an isolated old barn, his wilderness trek turns deadly -- and his life depends on Robbie finding help, fast.

The pace is rapid, the tension high, and the adventure thrilling in this latest offering from master storyteller Thomas Dygard.

5 out of 5 stars This book is fantastic.......2004-02-05

This book is fantastic. It is about a boy named Robbie and his older brother Eric, who go on a canoe trip. When they are camping they see some men bring a rowboat into a river and a couple minutes later the people back into their truck and drive off. In the morning Eric and his brother Robbie paddle out on their canoe. After a long day of paddling, they decided to make camp. Robbie asks Eric if he can go into the woods and get some leaves and other things. While Robbie is in the woods he sees a deer, and he decides to follows it. Unfortunately, he can't find the deer and he gets lost. Trying to find the way back, he sees a barn. Once he reaches it, he sees the two men who owned the rowboat and who looked scary, so he decides to stand still so they can't see him. Eric was making a campfire when he realized that Robbie had been gone for hours. While Eric is trying to find Robbie, he saw a light and a barn. Once he reaches the barn he runs in and he sees to men staring at him with angry faces.

I would give this book five stars for of its pretty funny scenes. One is when they were afraid of a cow. Another reason I gave this book five stars is because of its heart pounding scenes.

                      5 out of 5 stars Great Book.......2002-05-21

This was a great book. Everyone should read this book. This book is easy to read and fast reading. It is very full of suspense. The main characters are Eric and Robbie. They went on a river-rafting trip. Robbie got lost in the woods. Eric had to go look for him. They both found each other in a barn. The cops came and rescued both of them from the barn. They called their mom and dad and told what happen. They decided to finish their trip. I couldn't put the book down. There was a lot of outdoor scenery. This was a great book.

I just read a book called "River Danger". It was a good book about people facing their fears. It's about Eric and his little brother, Robbie. They are going on a camping trip on the Buffalo River. It's a combination of laughter, friendship, and loyalty. I liked it how Eric and Robbie always stuck together. In the beginning, Eric gets kidnapped, and Robbie must find help fast. I thought they weren't going to get through the first day when Robbie tipped the canoe over to get a turtle, but they made it, alright. I know if I was in one of their shoes, I would not have been as courageous as they were.

5 out of 5 stars Who finds who?.......1998-12-13

This was an interesting book, but it started out slow. I had trouble at first knowing what was going on since it jumped around a lot. I liked the idea of the code that Robbie used. he went out into the wood a lot by himself, so it was important. When there was an emergency the code did work well. The author did a good job of describing the scenes so that I could picture the places in my mind. This is a good book for people who like adventure and the outdoors.
