Great informative book for the farrier and horseman. Concise and easy to read. This book was the the one reference that most horseshoeing books later borrowed from. This book is a treasure for anyone with interest in the history and art of horseshoeing and farrier science. This is the number one book on the lost art of shoeing.

WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW WILL HURT YOU!.......2000-04-29
What you don't know will hurt you when flying old planes, and planes not serviced properly. Anyone who turns a blind eye to this information is living in the bliss of ignorance. (and probably still believes in the tooth fairy!)
You choose your cars with more caution, your tooth brushes and your lawn mowers. PLEASE MARY SCHIAVO, WRITE ANOTHER UPDATED BOOK. I fly SMARTER AND SAFER because of this book.
Consider you choose your childs bike safety helmet and car seat with caution. Please investigate the aircraft you are putting your family in on your next vacation.
Excellent reading!.......1999-09-14
I read this in two days! Interesting reading and fascinating finding out that the FAA isn't really concerned about you-only about you buying a ticket. The first 28 pages were about the ValueJet fiasco and I couldn't put it down. The facts are there and she proves a lot of her points. I can't help but think if it was written by a man, it would have received a lot more press.
Sensationalism.......1999-04-24
The book is poorly written. As an average consumer I should not be expected to wade through 400 pages to figure out how to fly safely. As far as aging aircraft I ride Washington State Ferries that are much older than even the oldest jets in service and think nothing of it. What statistics does she have to prove that a a 25-year-old plane is not as safe as a 3-year old plane. It's taken over 20 years for anyone to even talk about fixing a rudder on a 737. In talking to aerospace engineers I was advised to stay off of a new model for at least 2 years until design problems are resolved. Ms. Schiavo wastes a lot of paper talking about her life, her education and I'm not interested in that my object in reading the book was to fly safely. Perhaps she was one of the top college women but I want to know about how to fly safely. She sets herself up as the hero. Oh, if only people had listened we woulldn't have the Valujet crash In one part of the book she sees something wrong with the plane and when the airline insists it's OK Mary whips out her Inspector General ID and there she is saving the day! There is some good advice she gives, such as not flying with questionable carriers to save money and speaking up if the plane doesn't look safe. This business of no art at airports is overkill. Personally I dislike looking at art by children. Also the business of every May 11 (my birthday) handing back a can of pop to the flight attendant and putting the 30 cents towards safety. Are airlines so poor? Smokehoods? by the time I unfolded one I'd be dead. Also they can melt. Just bring a wet cloth to breathe through. I really question the chapter CULT-ure at the FAA. Is this just whining to get back at the FAA when she didn't get her way? And talk about perhaps flying isn't safer than driving. I know a lot of people who have been killed or seriously injured in auto accidents. I do not know anyone who has been in a commercial airplane accident Perhaps people in Ohio don't drive like people in Washington State so it's not as obvious to her as it is to me that flying is safer than driving. Information was organized poorly (as this review is) . She doesn't quickly get to the point. It would be better to have a 100 page book I could put in my windbreaker pocket when I go to the airport to take a flight.
One of the scariest books I have read........1999-04-18
If you fly or no someone who is going to use the airlines this is a must read book. I took it out of the local library and was so disturbed by its information that I now consider it a reference book and have added it to my library. Having 4100 hrs. in the air as a former Air Force MATS navigator and who had safety constantly drilled into me as a flight crew member, I am appalled by the accusations in this book and their implications for the flying public. This book should be a must read for every congressperson in Washington. Thank you Ms. Schaivo.
Read the facts...learn the truth, finally!.......1999-04-13
As a frequent traveler and a professional in the travel industry, this book compelled me to seriously consider whether or not I wanted to remain in the business. Perhaps most disturbing is the author's documentation of aging aircraft remaining in service and the shortcuts in maintenance as well as the government's inability to oversee the industry properly. Read this book and make informed travel decisions for the first time in your life!

Customer Reviews:
My friend the enemy, Part 5.......2006-04-14
Goro Oji, a gorgeous model, has rescued Sae from a fate of her own making. In meeting her at the modeling shoot for the men's magazine he has developed a crush on her and restored her egomaniacal faith in herself. Now Sae is on the rampage and the first target of her destructive tendencies is Momo and Toji...again... Sae is unnerved by their newfound love and wants to break them up and restore herself to the position she was in before, even if it is by usury and scheming.
Meanwhile, Momo's birthday is coming up and Toji has a special evening planned for the two of them. His parents are going to be off for the evening and he invites Momo for a special dinner alone, but in the aftermath of their very first kiss is Momo ready to jump to the next step already? Well, if Sae has any say in the matter Momo will be deflowered on her sixteenth birthday, but she hasn't factored Toji into the plan at all...well, not where Momo is concerned anyways... Sae wants Toji for herself and is willing to throw anyone at Momo in order to get him, even Goro, who genuinely likes her (Sae, that is...not Momo).
One big dramatic mess... and it just keeps getting better and better. Of course, it's like most typical manga romantic shojo situations, when the characters take a step forward they always take two steps back, but hey, that's life I suppose. I can't wait to read the next volume in this series. I just can't seem to put any of them down.
Soft Porn.......2003-06-06
Just a note to parents out there - these books are not as innocent as they might appear from the cover. They are about at a level with modern American soap operas - pretty bad. No actual drawings of sexual organs but lots of pictures suggesting sexual activity; boys talking about taking a girl's virginity; intended rapes - including gang rapes - that are prevented at the last minute by the entrance of the hero; girls trying to win boys over by offering them sex; misunderstandings galore in which the boy has sex with the wrong girl or the girl wakes up in a strange bed. Even if you don't object to your daughter reading something with so much sex in it, you'll probably object to the antifeminist portrayal of girls obsessed with catching the right boy and using sex to do it. The heroine and hero do try to stay above all this and true to each other, but they still involve themselves in vengeful plots to teach the bad girls lessons. It's only natural that preteen girls should be curious about dating, etc., but these books give a really false and bad impression of what sex, love, and life are all about. People might say that this type of book is just for fun, but there's a lot of fun stuff out there that also makes you think and grow as a person: books and movies that deal with social-sexual issues in a more moral and responsible way and lead to an appetite for better and better literature. Sex is, after all, a major theme in literature. But the "Peach Girl" series would only develop a taste for more of the same, or worse.
Not for the younger Peach fans.......2002-10-20
Just when you thought Sae had lost her edge, a kiss from a supermodel brings her back to her old self. Add a little jeaslousy over Momo and Toji's happiness and you have a Sae that can only be described as evil.
Momo and Toji have finally kissed, and are as happy as a couple can be. They are even planning on celebrating Momo's 16th birthday alone. Unfortunatly, Sae's supermodel boyfriend has promised he'd do anything for her... even help her get Toji. There are some endearing moments in the story about being satisfied with what you have... Momo just keeps getting more lovable.
I can't spoil the ending, but at the last minute Peach Girl goes beyond risque and fun and deals with some serious issues. I very much enjoyed this volume, from the romantic moments to the comedy to the drama, but the cliffhanger might be too shocking for the 12 and under crowd. The end is shocking enough for the older readers.
For Peach fans, number 5 stands up to the previous volumes (with the added perk of "pro Sae" fan mail). However, be prepared for heavier drama.
Need... Peach Girl... Six...........2002-08-29
This is one of the best volumes yet! I love how Miwa Ueda keeps you wanting more. Even my guy friends like it!
The tables are turned yet again ..........2002-08-04
The latest volume of Peach Girl is STUNNING. What's happening?
Sae has started a new fling with Goro, a famous model, desperate to make Momo jealous. Momo is going out with Toji and their relationship is going great. They plan a small celebration for her birthday, but Sae will NOT let the night end without being on top.
The ending is, of course, a bit of a cliff hanger. You must read this volume if you're a Peach Girl fan.
My only complaint is that there is only a couple of pages that feature Kiley. ;_;

New Love, Old Problems Part 5.......2006-04-14
Momo and Kiley have just prevented Sae from engaging in prostitution with an elder client. When she tries to sell Momo a skin whitening product afterwards the suspicions are raised as to what exactly Ryo has her doing for him. Toji discovers via the internet that Ryo is involved with a serious pyramid scheme and has basically enlisted Sae to make the money for him, no matter what she has to do.
Momo's relationship has it's stops and starts too... on the one hand she wants to allow him his space so that he can mourn the loss of his true love, Nurse Misao, but on the other hand she wants him to only desire her... even if she is still not quite ready to give into his sexual desires. When he asks her to work with him at a convenience store so that they can raise the money for their special trip she resigns herself to it, but halfheartedly.
Then things spice up again as Sae gets involved in a porno video that she is blissfully ignorant of, and the only reason Momo knows what it is because Kiley has seen the people involved in porno movies. They must stop her from making a terrible mistake, even if Sae has never been the nicest person to Momo.
I can't stop reading this series. It's wonderful, and just the right kind of drama without being overblown that really makes a manga series wonderful. Pick it up... but beware, this series causes dire addictions...you won't be able to wait to find out what is happening next.
Fans of the series will be pleasantly surprised.......2004-01-05
Once again, it is up to Momo to save Sae. But this book is different, it ends in an actually quite surprising way. If you were getting sick of Sae's thoughtless, evil antics then this book is the antidote. It offers some new, surprising twists and is definetly worth the read if you've been following the series.
OMG! This was so great.......2003-12-16
Peach Girl is my favorite manga. The characters seem so real and so do the situations. Even though this one seems to be centered around Sae the ending is a real cliffhanger. I couldn't believe what Kiley did! I can't wait till the next one!

My friend the Enemy, Part 6.......2006-04-14
Momo wakes up in a hotel room to find herself naked and with a man...and not just any man (certainly not her own man Toji), it's Goro, beautiful boy, model, and boyfriend of Sae...and it looks like he's gone all the way with her. As if being taken advantage of is bad enough, but suddenly the door burst open and in comes Toji, Kiley, and the school nurse Misao. Toji attacks Goro for all its worth and Misao comforts Momo, who doesn't know if she has lost her virginity or not but feels ashamed nonetheless.
At Misao's home Toji admits that he and Sae were in bed together kissing, but it stopped when he realized that she wasn't Momo. Kiley brings up the fact that it all seems too convenient, Sae being in his bed and Goro trying to bed with Momo. He believes they were the victims of a set up and decides to launch the ultimate revenge on Sae...to give her a taste of her own medicine, with Toji and Momo's help.
This manga just slipped from teen rating into adult, in my personal opinion. I mean, come on, a friend tries to get revenge on her friend by convincing her boyfriend to date rape her? And what's worse, in order to get back at her they hire an actor to make her think the same has happened to her? It seems that this is not something that Momo would go through with... I mean, sure she might get her revenge, but not by making Sae think she had been raped... just as she had for a while... Overall though, it's still a very good read, but this scenario made it fall a little short of perfect, in my opinion... I still plan on reading the story, but now I feel as if I need to expect the plot to be unbelievable, whereas it seemed entirely plausible before.
Peach girl.......2003-04-20
In the last volume you were left off with Momo waking up in a hotel room, not knowing where she was or how she got there, and finding Goro (a super hot model that is head over heals for sae: a vicious copier of Momo that only tries to steal every happy thing in Momo's life). In this volume, Momo is scared to death at the thought that she might have been "deflowered" by Goro. With the help of Kiley, they figure out that Sae is behind it all. Kiley has thought up a clever plan to get revenge against Sae, and all works out fine until something very wrong happens. I won't give away the ending but this is a book you surely don't want to miss.
Drama, Drama..........2002-12-26
Peach Girl #6 is one of the best books in the series. I got it before I got Book 5, and 4, and I still understood it!
It begins with Momo, waking up in a hotel room with Goro. he tells her they did the deed, and she doesn't believe him. Meaniwhile, Toji is runnning to the rescue. And MEANWHILE, Sae is there for the whole thing. I won't spoil it for you, don't worry! This volume is VERY dramatic, with a LOT of TLC from toji to Momo, and a LOT of unbelieveable things Sae has done. You will NOT BELIEVE how complex her plan was. This book may not be for everyone. It has some verbal profanity, and at the end there's something....distasteful. But the end is a super-duper cliffhanger....But it's an amazing book!
Peach Girl 6.......2002-11-21
Another good addition to the peach girl series. Though the books seem to be getting progressively less realistic, they're still fun.
Kiley's back!.......2002-11-19
When we last saw Momo, she woke up naked in supermodel Goro's room to him asking, "Are you happy Momo? I gave you what you wanted." In volume six of Peach Girl, the big question is, Did he or didn't he?, then What to do next?
As Toji runs to Momo's rescue, he luckily runs into (or rather, is run over by) Kiley and Nurse Misao. Putting aside the immediate question of why are Kiley and Nurse Misao driving together at 1AM, they rush into the hotel room where Goro is holding Momo, and the drama begins. With help from Misao's words of wisdom and comfort and Kiley's conniving brain, Momo and Toji are able to piece together what has happend during the night. Once the stories are cleared up, Kiley is at his all time best, pointing out that when dealing with Sae, head on approaches are futile; the best way to deal with her is to take revenge.
This volume of Peach Girl is full of more drama than comedy. However, the comedy made me (literally) laugh out loud. There is some verbal profanity in this volume, so some more sensitive readers may be offended. The sexual references that are common with Peach Girl are discussed frankly, including a shocking yet funny image of Sae closing the story. All in all, this is the Peach Girl you know and have come to love, only this time Miwa Ueda is not holding back.

My only complaint is that there is only a couple of pages that feature Kiley. ;_;
