Book Description
Over the last two decades, the environmental cost of capital accumulation has emerged as a serious social and economic problem. Many are now aware that the ways we utilize our natural and cultural resources have had a range of negative consequences internationally\m-\from the destabilization of ecosystems, the depletion of resources, and the degradation of our environment to the disintegration of cultural values and ethnic identity within local communities. Responses to this dilemma have varied, with traditional economists characterizing environmental issues as mere externalities and many ecologists focusing solely on protecting the environment. Offering a far more comprehensive view, Enrique Leff provides a Marxist approach to environment and development that focuses on the process of production, as well as implications of the environmental crisis on human values. To truly achieve a more rational and integrated use of our natural resources, he convincingly argues for a reorientation of science and technology towards the objectives of sustainable development, the decentralization of production, and the participatory management of natural resources.

Book Description
ATP plays a central role in the two leading causes of cardiac morbidity and mortality in the western world: ischemia and heart failure. We are in our infancy applying what is known about biology and chemistry of ATP toward developing effective therapies for these diseases. In this volume, the current understanding of the chemistry and biology of ATP specifically in the cardiomyocyte is presented. New insights into ATP have been gleaned using biophysical techniques allowing dynamic measurement of chemical events in the intact beating heart and using new animal models in which cardiac proteins are either over expressed, deleted or harbor specific mutations.
This book provides a summary of the basic understanding and includes illustrations of why
ATP and the Heart is important to both the clinician and scientist.

Book Description
Used extensively in cellular and molecular biology research and cytogenetic applications, nucleotide analogs are currently available for the treatment of various diseases. Nucleoside Triphosphate and Their Analogs: Chemistry, Biotechnology, and Biological Applications features the contributions of 18 scientists from both academia and industry in the first complete source dedicated entirely to nucleoside triphosphate (NTP). The text provides collective information on the chemical, physiochemical, and biological properties of both natural and modified NTP alongside their application in life sciences. This book examines the structural components of NTPs' diverse biological properties and therapeutic consequences, including cytotoxic compounds, antiviral agents, and immunosuppressive molecules. The text describes synthetic methods used for all types of nucleotides and reviews families of enzymes that depend on nucleotides for assembling DNA and RNA molecules. This book also emphasizes the key role NTP plays in the global tracking of conformational changes in nucleic acids and nucleic acid complexes and the investigation of cellular processes and genetic material. The author details the pharmaceutical and diagnostic applications of NTP modification and how fluorescent labeled nucleotide analogs provide sensitive probes for studying the structure, dynamics, and interactions of nucleic acids. Nucleoside Triphosphate and Their Analogs: Chemistry, Biotechnology, and Biological Applications discusses the potential of current applications and future research into context with an in-depth analysis of the role anticancer and antiviral nucleoside analogs play in medical treatments, including antiretroviral therapy regimens (for the treatment of HIV), anti-rejection therapy for organ transplants, hematological malignancy therapy, and the treatment of nonmalignant disorders, solid tumors, immunologic diseases, and multiple sclerosis.

Yuraq Janka : Guide to the Peruvian Andes.......2001-01-30
The book is a good research of all routes and it offers a nice historic review of the climbs. However, as a guidebook is useless. The author admits that only brief descriptions of the routes are given since he wants to preserve the nature of Andean mountaineering. This, in my opinion, is the wrong perpective of what a guide book should be. I can go to Peru and ask around and get the same brief description at no cost and bear the same risk of getting lost.

Book 16 in SVHSY Series.......2003-04-02
With an eye-catching title like "Three Girls and a Guy," you know this sixteenth addition to the SVH Senior Year series will be enticing--and it is. As with every SVHSY book, the ending is just crammed with lots of drama, making you eager to read the next one as soon as possible. And "Three Girls..." certainly delivers, shock-wise. But I won't spoil the ending for you. Instead, here are the three main story lines in "Three Girls...":
1) Conner McDermott and Elizabeth Wakefield haven't been spending too much time together lately due to Liz's hectic schedule. There's that tension--as well as Conner's mother returning from rehab--that has him a nervous wreck. So he turns to the only person he feels he can talk to about this: Tia Ramirez. However, Liz thinks something's going on between these two, which is perceptive of her, because Tia's recent feelings for Conner have been anything but platonic, as you'll see by the end.
2) Ken Matthews gets more acquainted with his father's girlfriend, particularly since his dad doesn't have enough time even for her. This story line wasn't too interesting, though the ending was a little more so.
3) Andy Marsden's not too sure if he's cut out for a relationship with Six Hanson--or any relationship for that matter. The ending to this little dilemma will certainly have readers surprised, though I kind of suspected something a few books back. What I am surprised about is that such a topic would even be brought up in a Sweet Valley book. This is definitely not the same SV books I grew up on, which is a relief, in that this series is much more realistic.
Overall, "Three Girls and a Guy" is a great addition to the SVHSY series, with several good surprises at the end. Can't wait to read the next one: "Backstabber."
OK..............MAYBE........2002-03-16
I think that the whole Andy thing is sick. But I have to say it made the whole book more interesting. Andy was my favorite charatcter untill the whole [homosexual] guy thing came up. Tia was O.K. but know she sounds like a [promiscuous]. I still don't understand why she broke up with Angel. As for Conner and Elizabeth, they make the book romantic. They are the only reson I read the books. I hope the next book is better.
Conner, a baby, Tee, a cheater and Liz has the right!.......2001-03-22
The book is a pretty good book but one: Tia needs to think twice and cheated on Liz, her best friend for Conner. Tee needs to step down b/c she dated one too many boys. She dated Angel, broke up, went w/ Trent, broke up and now this. I mean, really... Two: Conner is acting like a 2-year old. I mean, hello, he's in senior year, like they say, 12th grade! Three: Andy is dating w/ Six and they broke up, I think. U have to read the last chapeter. I didn't read the last chapter really well. However, are Six and Megan Sandborn friends? If they're not friends, I think they'll be good friends b/c they're "loud," if u know what I mean. :) I think Liz and Conner are a good couple anyway so why should Tee think she has the right to cheat everyone's b/f (Well, not everyone) behind their back except Andy. Tia used to be my favorite character but now, I think I like Sandy.
Way better than the rest!.......2000-07-17
This book was probably the best book in Svh senior year series. It's storylines were really awesome and the problems the characters faced made you think. At the end it really made me mad because I thought Liz and Conner were PERFECT for eachother... And now I basically think that Tia is a witch. She knew about Conner and Liz so she should'nt have done what she did... She should have stopped Conner. But It's also Conner's fault.
What happened to all the others?.......2000-06-20
After the earthquake, it seemed like the characters lost all depth. Where are Lila, Todd, and Enid? I used to love these books, and I really wish Lila and Jess were still friends. Also, I think Todd and Elizabeth should become friends again so that maybe Connor could have some envy and Liz could have other friends besides the 3 she's always with. Even though Enid was never that interesting, I still think she should have at least a small roll in these books, after all that she and Liz went through. Also, whatever happened to Heather Mallone?

Book Description
As each of us pass through this life we influence others. Sometimes the influence is for good and sometimes it is not. Sometimes the influence is intentional and sometimes it is not. Julie, Cate and Jenny were all influenced by David. He touched all of their lives. Each responded to him similarly yet differently. Each made choices that they lived to regret. All made choices that had lasting consequences.
