Book Description
This book is unique in that it takes a molecular first approach. It starts with DNA and moves through the genetic expression at the molecular level before turning to the more traditional Mendelian and Neomendelian transmission genetics. This book emphasizes what the reader should come to understand, not simply memorize. In addition to topics traditionally covered in genetics, this book provides cutting edge information on Bioinformatics and Proteomics, as well as a chapter on advanced topics in Molecular Genetics.
Customer Reviews:
Textual errors detract from information.......2004-10-10
Genetics: A Molecular Perspective is simply a rearrangement of the chapters in Essentials of Genetics to introduce the student to the concepts surrounding DNA replication and protein synthesis before venturing into the territory of Mendelian genetics and more traditional genetic studies. However, the book comes off as a horrible cut-and-paste job. Students are referred to diagrams that do not exist, references to other chapters in the book are frequently wrong, and concepts are occasionally introduced twice, such as the mechanisms of protein synthesis, which are explained in great detail in chapter 5 before being vaguely introduced in Chapter 8, the original "first" chapter in the book.
Additionally, the layout of the text is very poor. Sometimes, full pages of text wil be followed by a nearly full page of diagrams. Some references to new diagrams require the student to flip several pages to find the diagram.
As a student in a Genetics course, I am surprised that the instructors chose to use this book, considering its many errors. It does contain much good information on the subject of genetics, but the lack of proofreading and editing makes the book hard to read. Students and teachers should choose a different text to use if they wish to learn or teach genetics without the problems associated with poor publishing.
Book Description
A blueprint for the investigation of neurodevelopmental disorders, this book presents the work of a team of scientists using a multidisciplinary, integrated approach to link genes with human behavior. Using Williams syndrome as a model, leading researchers in neuroanatomy, neurocognition, neurophysiology, and molecular genetics have built bridges between disciplines to link higher cognitive functions, their underlying neurobiological bases, and their molecular genetic underpinnings. One of the book's many strengths is that the scientists from each discipline studied the same individuals with Williams syndrome. As the book shows, Williams syndrome is a fascinating disorder because of the "peaks and valleys" among cognitive domains: severe intellectual deficits but remarkably spared and effusive language; specific impairment in spatial construction but great strength in face processing and sociability. By capitalizing on these dissociations in higher cognitive functioning, the book provides a model for the study of brain-behavior relationships as well as for the mapping of brain and behavior phenotypes to the genome and beyond.

Book Description
This book is a collection of papers which reflect the recent trends in the philosophy and history of molecular biology. It brings together historians, philosophers, and molecular biologists who reflect on the discipline's emergence in the 1950's, its explosive growth, and the directions in which it is going. Questions addressed include: (i) what are the limits of molecular biology? (ii) What is the relation of molecular biology to older subdisciplines of biology, especially biochemistry? (iii) Are there theories in molecular biology? (iv) If so, how are these theories structured? (v) What role did information theory play in the rise of molecular biology? The book will open the way for many future researchers.

Great guide written by a Boston resident.......2000-09-27
The best guidebook makes you feel like you've got a good friend in town, one ready to share the out-of-the-way finds and to keep you clear of the tourist traps. City Smart Boston is one of those guides. Author and Boston resident Lisa Matte offers up suggestions on her hometown that range from accommodations to dining, from shopping to cultural activities, all designed to help you make the most of your visit.
We especially appreciated the accommodations section, covering properties that range from five-star to bed-and-breakfasts. Details important to romantics, from terry cloth bathrobes to on-site gourmet dining facilities, are included in the hotel writeups. Along the way, readers find a sprinkling of fascinating trivia (hey, bet you don't know which Boston hotel called John Wilkes Booth a guest just a week before he shot and killed President Lincoln!)
Romantic travelers also find plenty of sizzling nightlife activity covered in this guide, including where to see the Boston Pops and the hottest places to dance the night away. A special section takes a look at Boston's best Irish pubs.
City-Smart Guidebook: Boston.......2000-05-12
DON'T visit Boston without consulting this informative and easy to read guide book. Local residents to international travelers will find this guidebook the key to planning visits that memories are made of. The best guidebook I have ever read.

Customer Reviews:
Review of Fodor's Martha's Vineyard.......2000-07-10
As a regular traveller, I was most disappointed with the latest edition of Fodor's 2000: Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket. It was very concise in its information about the area, but as one who arranges travel, shopping, and accommodation over the internet, I was amazed that in the Year 2000 edition, it completely lacked any web sites/addresses. For instance, Martha's Vinyard Chamber of Commerce has the most informative web site for local travel, accommodation, weather, etc., but Fodor's has not listed it, just the 1-800 phone number...coming from London, England, this is of little help. Unfortunately, this was the case throughout the whole book. Fodor succeeds in its advice and desciptions, but it may want to think about updating its books for the millions of global web surfers out there, wanting to plan a holiday

Customer Reviews:
Very helpful to a couple not familiar with New England........2000-07-13
My wife and I travelled to New England this summer and this book was very helpful. We had planned on taking day trips to various areas and we found ourselves referring to the book quite often at the beginning of the day for things to do and see that might not be typical tourist locations. A couple of the restaurant selections were not very good and the maps of downtown Boston could be a little more detailed, but overall the book was an excellent guide.
The greatest guide book thats on the market........2000-07-01
This book is trully an angel in disguise. We visited some family in New England this spring, and we were a little unsure of the activities in New England. This little book showed us the in and outs, gave great places to stay, food choices, and the "must sees" of New England. We bought a couple other guide books, to be safe. We found this one dog-eared and very used by the end of our trip. I give this book 5 stars for sure.
Amazon.com
Let's face it. Whether you're visiting all of New England or merely bopping by Cape Ann or Kennebunkport, you're not going to be able to do and see everything, no matter how long you stay. And while it's always advantageous to know your travel options, a ceaseless onslaught of information can be off-putting. Guidebooks crow about being "comprehensive," but do you really want to wade through descriptions of every hotel, restaurant, museum, park, and monument? With too much input to sort out, preparing for a vacation can begin to feel reminiscent of work. If you've got limited time for planning a trip, why not use a guidebook that does some of the sorting for you?
Anne Wright excels at organization, and her carefully selected lodging, food, and entertainment options represent the best New England has to offer. It's a pleasure to plan a route and make travel decisions based on her quality choices. A map of New England folds out from inside the front cover, setting a tone of user-friendly practicality. What follows are some suggested itineraries for seeing New England in one to three weeks, a nature-lover's tour, an arts and culture tour, an itinerary for families, and another for history buffs--all with individual maps, time suggestions, and recommended sights. Wright includes a mileage chart of distances between major cities, a summary of New England's many attractions (food, outdoor activities, the arts, and the history), then gets pragmatic with cost estimates, climate charts, transportation options, and a list of tourism resources. For the cities and regions themselves, Wright provides an introduction, a map, the perfect one-day itinerary, a compendium of sights, and a healthy (but not comprehensive) selection of places to stay and eat for varying budgets. Wright's guide is skillfully put together and a joy to use. Travel preparation should always be so easy. --Stephanie Gold

Customer Reviews:
Good.......2005-07-12
This book was pretty good. It was a true story about someone finding out what they wany from life. It was about Shelly, who is invited to Grece after she turns down an invitaion from her controlling bf. She is having the time of her life w/o him until he showes up unannounced. The story had a nice plot yet I felt myself wanting to know more about Sarah and how she changes from being shy and timid to being outgoing and fun. It was a repition of the same thing: parties, parties, parties. Sarah seemed more deep and interesting yet u don't hear much about her. But, I still enjoyed the love triangle between Shelly, Nick, and Mike. I didn't really like Jade all that much. I thought she gaped in the limelight too much. She had to be the star or she had no fun. It was an attention grabber and well worth the read just not a perfect novel.
Not worth it!!.......2005-03-07
This book is boring!!!!!!!! The plot is bad and it isn't interesting. All it is about is these three girls who go to greece and basically do stuff and this author gives too many boring details!! it isn't engrossing!! I just read it because it was the only book my friend would let me borrow becuse it was so bad when I spent the night at her house. I would recomend it to girls from britain because the story takes place in europe and the girls are from england and they say british words and it is hard for me to understand it since I'm from Arizona! I am soo happy to be done with that book. It was so annoying and boring to read!! If you think this book is good than you have never read a good book. Try the A-list series
Grecian Holiday.......2005-01-21
Reading this book, parts of it reminded me of my friends and me just hanging out. As i went on i could definatly relate to somethings, I liked how she decided to vacation with her friends rather then her mean boyfriend. The descriptions in the book made you see everything going on. This Book wasnt as good as i thought it would be, but it is better then a lot of other books i have read. I recommend this to people who would like to read teen Drama, partying, adn other stuff.
This book was horrible.......2004-11-15
This is what my parents would call a "junkie teen book". It has no substance to it, and the whole theme of the book is sex. There is no substance, and no climax. All that happens is she goes to Greece with her friends instead of a trip with her jerk of a boyfriend, then they break up, then he comes to Greece and they get back together again. How can people think that is interesting? The only reason I gave this book 2 stars is because I thought the description of the house and the country sounded like it would be a neat place to go. I totally wasted my money buying this book, and I'm sure the Spanish Holiday book is just as bad.

Many people say that this book is a "beach read", and that somehow makes it bad. Well, I disagree with that. This story is about a girl Kelly. Kelly turns down going to a camping/hiking trip with her bossy boyfriend Mike. Mike gets really mad at her, and even more so when she goes on vacation with her sort of friend Jade and Jade's friend Sarah to Greece. In Greece, they just have different things happen, if I explain it'll ruin the story. The language in this book is easy to understand and it hardly ever has any "British-isms". At the beginning, the story sort of drags, but later on, it gets better and you can't stop reading. Jade is sort of an antagonist at times, and so is Mike, but they have Good Moments too. The end was also sort of not how I wanted it, but I still liked Kelly's "speech". I would recommend this book to anyone who would want to read something that isn't unbelievably depressing.
