As good as it gets..........2005-06-04

The author approaches fast water nymphing tactics with an eye geared toward keeping both the novice and expert in mind. This "how-to" manual is full of expert knowledge presented in a clear and concise fashion. The author takes a straight-forward, realistic approach and does not overwhelm the reader with undue length and unnecessary verbiage. Each sentence counts and what we are left with is a thorough and substantive presentation of an expert's knowledge of fast water nymphing tactics. This is a treasure of a book written by an author who clearly knows what he is talking about; He takes a potentially complicated subject and, in a practical and clear-headed way, steadily guides the reader through each step of the way. The author makes you feel as if you are right there at the water's edge with him. By employing the guidance outlined in this book, the novice will not be a novice for long, and even longstanding experts will learn something new. It doesn't get any better than this.

The book has only 67 pages not 124 pages as listed. If you don't include the index or the diagrams it's considerably shorter. I checked with the publisher. They were originally going to publish in a different format (5 x 7).

This was an exceptionally useful book to have on our hired narrowboat. Not only well detailed notes on the canal itself but full of useful information - especially pub locations. Don't go narrowboating without one!

Worth getting for fans; others go to a library.......1999-12-09

Vampire Slayers is one of two things, depending on the reader: an absolute, must-have for the fan of vampires and particularly vampire-hunters; or, for the less-than-pleased with Van Helsing, a curious and eclectic selection of occult stories. Those who don't like horror at all will probably be bored (many of the stories involve similar settings: vampires take over the world), but fans will be entertained, as the stories stretch over many writers and styles.

This book was so good. In this book Jessica is getting over the night before were her boyfriend James tried to rape her on a date.Elizabeth has a witness for Jessica to testify,Mia.She was raped by James but is to afraid to testify.Will Mia change her mind and save Jessica besofre its to late? Alex is having mixed feelings about this guy shes been talking to on the campus hotline,T-Squared and a boy named Noah.But she dosent know that T-Squared and Noah are the same person.Will she find out in time?Bruce and Lila are saved in the wilderness from a plane crash,but do they really have true feelings for each other?William White is back and he wants his x-girlfriend Elizabeth.He leaves her notes and Elizabeth just thinks its some kind of prank.But does she found out that hes back before its to late?This was a very good back and i would recomnd this to any other sweet valley fans.

When Jessica dates James Montgomery,She tells people about it and they start a Rally called"Take Back The Night" Lila falls in love with Bruce while stranded in the woods with him. At a Trial for James,Mia Stillwater,One of Jessica's Sorority sisters comes forward and says she was raped by James Montgomery,He goes down. He gets not only kicked out of the fraternity,but the University as well! Way to go,Mia! Bruce and Lila come back to school,from being in the hospital after the plane crash.

Great Book!!!!.......2001-06-30

This is one of my favorite Sweet Valley University books. It deals with serious issues, and I reccomend it to anyone. Jessica Wakefield, who was assulted by her former boyfriend, James Montgomery, is wondering what she should do about it. Maia, who was raped by James, is afraid to speak up. Jessica was afraid, at first, but eventually spoke up. Also, she has a trial with James in court. Elizabeth totally supports her, as do Steven and Billie. Also, her former husband, Michael McAllery says a few kind words to her. Anyway, Jessica deals with the fact that James almost raped her, and hopes that people will believe her. Meanwhile, Alexandra Rollins fidns love on the campus hotline, little does she know who he really is. Lila and Bruce fall madly in love and are rescued. Anyway, back to the Jessica/James trial. It was so beautiful! The way Jessica felt confident was so wonderful! And when Maia testified, I was so proud of her. Also, the march was awesome! The way it built up Jessica's confidence was great. The trial was awesome, too. This book deals a lot with date rape and sexual assualt. Jessica and Maia helped save a lot of people. Also, Mike McAllery is so sweet to Jessica. Anyway, this book is a must have!

Take Back the Night #10--a review.......2001-04-28

I think the first 11 SVU books are the best ever-written. this particular book follows Jess/James' trial, and has a relieving, courageous (Maia) outcome. It deals with the outcome of rape-assault, and I think the book emphasizes the importance of speaking out! I think the male reactions in the book are pretty realistic...and Jessica's fear, the whole thing is just so REAL! I also like the march on-campus, I know a lot of colleges are doing those nowadays.

it was good but i thought it was kind of lame that the boys were mad that james got kicked out of school. i read it in one night. i couldn't put it down

Good Nam Novel.......2006-05-19

Captain Jim Hollister is back for his third tour in Nam. Much has changed since his last tour. His marriage cannot take the strain and he and Susan are separated. The draft has been scraping the bottom of the barrel of American youth. The media has convinced most Americans that we need to pull out. Vietnamization is a joke and will never work. The ARVNs are next to useless, even with American leadership. After a brief stint at Ranger School as an instructor Captain Hollister is sent back to his old unit, Juliet Company. But boy has it changed: long hair, sideburns, drug use, racial polarity, terrible morale, weapons in disrepair, rusted magazines, men out of shape, etc. As company commander he has to turn the unit around, and quickly, or they are going to be broken up and sent elsewhere. Working with a core of good NCOs he turns the Ranger company around and kicks some [...], starting up long range patrols, insertions, etc. near and into Cambodia. Lots of action and Captain Hollister is in two helicopter crashes. The multiple insertions into a VC tunnel complex in Cambodia to try and snatch some prisoners is awesome. Good book, and a real study in how to effectively turn around and lead a unit that has lost its self-respect. Recommended. This is his third Nam novel and it is well worth it.

An Entertaining Lesson in Leadership.......2001-05-20

Dennis Foley has again produced a novel that is intriguing, entertaining and keeps the reader in suspense. But Take Back The Night is more than a splendid novel, it is a textbook on small unit leadership that should be studied by the schools of the US Army and Marine Corps. Foley illustrates the effective way to deal with problem soldiers and less than competent unit noncommissioned officers and officers.

The author has masterfully woven into the story the painful themes of the last years of the Vietnam War - The drug problems are put in perspective to the combat situation and life back in the States. The disenchantment by the American public with the prolonged war and its impact on morale of soldiers in harm's way is ever present. The failure of national leadership takes an appropriate whack as do the suck-up career officers and the often self-important advisors.

Foley presents a sensitive treatment of the plight of the Montagnard people and shows the disdain and abuse inflicted on them by both the North and South Vietnamese military.

Key to the success and survival of the grunts in the dirt, is the extremely strong bond and mutual respect between Rangers and aviation crewmen that flows through the entire book. The intimacy is reflected in the always correct terminology and techniques relating to flying and employing helicopters in the thick of fighting with the Rangers in desperate situations

A great read, Foley. Keep those stories and books coming!

This is a very good book of action........2000-12-13

This book is about a group of soldiers, who are under the leadership of Captain Jim Hollister, that were under a short leave of absence of action for a while and let a bunch of things like, drugs, and racial discrimination get between them. It takes a lot of work for Captain Hollister to get his men into shape and ready for very difficult tasks that they must complete, but survive throught it. This novel showed me that when it comes to war, it can bring all kinds of people together to get the job done. If you love war stories, this absolutely meant for you to read.

As usual I read this book before I read Dennis's first book. I still enjoyed the book very much. Dennis puts you in there with Hollister. I as a member of a LRRP/RANGER unit(Echo 50thLRRP /Echo 75th RANGER unit would have loved to have had someone like him leading our unit. Dennis made this book sing. I lost a lots of sleep,because I couldn't put the book down. Ialso have his other book, I will go back, and read them both again. Roadrunner6 Out
