    Book Description

The new science of ecological engineering is winning increasing acceptance all over the world. Established industrial economies like Sweden and the United States are investing more in it as initial skepticism and regulatory hurdles are giving way to burgeoning investments by companies and municipalities, increased research activity, and great interest by the public. Less-developed countries are investigating inexpensive and effective ways to build their wastewater treatment infrastructure with ecological engineering. Eastern European countries and the former Soviet Union are turning to ecological engineering to solve their acute pollution problems. Ecological Engineering for Wastewater Treatment, Second Edition, presents comprehensive coverage of topics ranging from wastewater source separation at the household level to the use of huge, natural wetlands. It is an updated description of the state of the art, intended as a tool for teaching and inspiring the management of wastewater as a resource, one of the keys to sustainable development. In this Second Edition, existing chapters have been updated, new chapters have been added, and a comprehensive index has been added.

5 out of 5 stars Eyewitness Travel Guide-Krakow.......2007-08-31

We got this a month before leaving. It is a typical Eyewitness product...beautifully illustrated, has a time line, walking tours and great maps of the city. It is logically put together. These guides are one of our constant traveling companions., where ever and when ever we travel.

5 out of 5 stars Cracow (Eyewitness Travel Guides) by DK Publishing .......2007-08-23

Krakow is a very beatiful, historic City and this guide greatly enhanced our enjoyment of it. EXCELLENT ORGANIZATION AND CONTENT.

Eyewitess Travel Guides are very good because they cover so many areas (history, architecture, planning, maps where to stay & eat, etc.) with excellent pictures and other graphics. The organization of the Eyewitness guides gives a quick overview of the city or country and helps to view a city or country by making it very easy to identify sites and buildings. The Eyewitness Guides facilitate touring by superb organization of maps, drawings, pictures and descriptions so that sigificant points of interest and sites are easily idenfied. They give alot of info, but are not too long. And I keep them as good references in contrast to many touring guides that I immediately discard after I have seen the area they cover. In other words, the content does not justify carrying the additional weight.
The Krakow guide is one of the best in the series. My biggest negative of the book is that it spells Krakow with the letter "c," not "k."

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Awesome guide and resource book.......2000-09-22

I was lucky to find this book in the library and used it extensively while in Warsaw, Cracow and Prauge. The detail is incredible, the writing style excellent with a lilt of humor. This book -made- my trip so I'm buying my own copy. If you take this book to Europe with you don't bother hiring a guide or taking a tour. It has more than any individual could offer.

      5 out of 5 stars Delightful.......2000-05-19

This book is a gem! I pick it up and settle down in my chair and am transported in time and place to Eastern Europe. I was in Prague before I read the book (it had not been published yet) and now when I read the Prague sections everything comes to life. Mr. Valley has a way with words. He supples the reader with his dense knowledge of his subject in an easy to read, matter of fact style. I would recommend this book to anyone whether or not they are planning to travel to the cities described. I am eagerly awaiting his next book.

5 out of 5 stars Absorbing insight into jewish life.......2000-03-16

Having known Eli many years ago at University, I couldn't wait to read this book to re-establish spiritual contact. What I wasn't prepared for was the depthand passion that Eli had written on the subject. This is a masterpiece that once you have picked up you will not put down until you have seen the cities and experienced the tours first hand. My only regret is that the vast majority of those reading this book may never actually visit Prague.

5 out of 5 stars More than a travel guide.......1999-12-17

I picked this book up from a friend's bookshelf intending to flip through the pages. I ended up taking it home with me and reading it from cover to cover. It's well written and filled with a great deal of fascinating history. Not having ever been to the cities mentioned in the book, I can't comment on the accuracy of the tourist information. But this book would be of interest to anyone who has a curiosity about the history of Jewish life in eastern Europe. If it's ever reprinted, photographs would make it even better.

      5 out of 5 stars Eye-opening. Don't leave home without it!.......1999-10-18

For anyone interested in the Jewish history of Eastern Europe, this book is compulsory. It also presents conceptual and detailed history of over a thousand years and up-to-date descriptions of what the traveller will find now. Don't leave it behind despite its heft.

3 out of 5 stars Superficial treatment of an ancient city's past.......2007-05-28

This book gives a superficial treatment of the history of this great Polish city. I find no fault in this because that is what I believe was intended. It can serve as a fair introduction to Krakow's past for prospective visitors. The book gives a disproportionate emphasis to cultural history, a reflection, no doubt, of the author's background as a professor of art history. The subtitle "An Illustrated History" would seem to suggest that quality illustrations would be a significant feature of the book. In fact, the black and white illustrations are unremarkable and sometimes of poor quality.

5 out of 5 stars A panoramic history of this old Polish city.......2002-02-10

The author resides in Cracow and has served as a museum curator and art history professor: he's in a perfect position to provide a panoramic history of this old Polish city from inception to its current state. Black and white photos pepper a survey which considers its history and cultural roots.

5 out of 5 stars This is the best book I have read in a long time!.......2005-03-14

This book was awsome! I read the whole book in a day. It is so good that you can't put it down. It helps you understand the pressure that teen parents are under, and what decisions they have to make. I recomend that everyone reads this book.

                    5 out of 5 stars Very Inspirational.......2001-11-08

Being a teen mom, I found this book very helpful to understand my son's father's point of view. Like Christy I was TOTALLY against aborion and we struggled quite a lot with that issue. We are no longer together, sadly to say, but I feel like if I would have read this book sooner, it could have helped us to work things out instead of fighting all of the time. I would strongly recommend this book to many teen moms that feel stranded, and like they are the only one out there in this position.

5 out of 5 stars A powerful book that every teenager should read!.......2000-01-18

This book touches on many problems that a teenager might face in today's society. It is an extremely fast-reading book that I absolutely could not put down!

This is a must read for any teenager that might be facing pregnancy or living without a father figure in his or her life.
