Without a doubt, the finest piece of nature captured not only in stunning photographs (many by Ralph himself) however the text is a must read to capture the true escense of Ralph and his skills and talents as a naturalist.

In the writing he shares the different facets of the landscape, animals, and character of each area. 4 out of 5 stars Good value.......2005-09-19

This booklet is a concise summary of important places to visit. It is not intended as a detailed book, but rather as the actual information you'll be holding in your pocket while doing your sightseeing. For planning ahead in detail, I recommend go to the internet.
Great map included with very detailed information

4 out of 5 stars Helpful and concise.......2001-03-02

This is a very helpful guide that we found organized and well-indexed. You won't go wrong with this if you're visiting Amsterdam.

      4 out of 5 stars 5-star map; 3-star book........1999-12-09

The map which comes with this book is nearly perfect - it has all the tram and bus lines except the ones changed since '98 (very little changes) and it is more accurate, more detailed, and includes more of the city than the maps available in the VVV (tourist information) in Amsterdam. I spent the summer in Amsterdam and this map was indispensable, especially since I was not living in the city center and my apartment was located off most maps.

The book, on the other hand, is great for listing ideas of things to see and do, but does not actually 'review' anything - the author basically seems to think _everything_ in Amsterdam is absolutely wonderful and worth seeing. This is a terrific attitude if you are there for a long time, but if you are planning a short visit, try to read one of the more critical books as well so you won't waste your time and miss the best things. Also, the book has not been updated recently, so several of the restaurants (vegetarian ones mostly) are no longer open (but, to be fair, I could not find _any_ guidebooks for Amsterdam in which all the vegetarian restaurants were still in business, including a pamphlet published only a few months before, since several had just gone under.)

4 out of 5 stars Very Good Map.......1998-10-01

The map is excellent, very detailed, down to every street. And it's easy to read. The guide is brief, but helpful. Gives most of the essential information, all the museums and major attractions. We decided to order a second copy, in case our party wants to split up!

      Book Description

Born in Austria in 1756, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed his first piece of music, a minuet, when he was just five years old! Soon after, he was performing for kings and emperors. Although he died at the young age of thirty-five, Mozart left a legacy of more than 600 works. This fascinating biography charts the musician's extraordinary career and personal life while painting a vivid cultural history of eighteenth-century Europe. Black-and-white illustrations on every spread explore such topics as the history of opera and the evolution of musical instruments. There is also a timeline and a bibliography.

      1 out of 5 stars inaccurate illustrations.......2007-06-25

The drawings in this book are inaccurate (instruments, the way they are held/they open, maps etc.). The artist did an awfully poor job on just about every illustration. It makes you wonder about the text! I was happy to buy this book as I thought the whole series was a great idea! But I wish the authors put more effort into this project and more responsibility.

I think this book is great. The perspective that it is written from makes it easy for a child to identify with and having the pictures of the treatments and all the children is great. I loved this book becuase it gives people of all ages a a little insight on Cystic Fibrosis.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book for young children with cystic fibrosis.......2006-03-24

I have a 5 year old with cystic fibrosis and he was so excited to see pictures of other children having to do what he does every day - use a vest, nebulizer, take enzymes, etc. He just kept repeating "just like me". This has certainly helped him to not feel like he is the only one.

      5 out of 5 stars I love this book.......2006-03-24

This book is a wonderful tool to show your children with Cystic Fibrosis that they aren't alone. They aren't the only one in the world who needs to do these treatments. To be able to see all these children smiling is so beautiful. My son loves looking at this book and has me read it to him over and over. --Charla (A parent of a child with CF)

5 out of 5 stars An informative children's book for CF kids & their families.......2006-03-15

This picture book tells the story of one day in the life of a little girl fighting Cystic Fibrosis. It was written in order to help these small but mighty few find a sense of commonality and see fun photos of other kids who are just like themselves. Kids will enjoy learning about others their age who do daily treatments, take many medicines, and have hospital stays, and hopefully feel not so alone in their battle.

        Book Description

When Chia Martin was diagnosed with cancer, she found her daughter Carrie's artwork a catalyst to their communication. This beautiful, heartwarming book features Carrie's art and writing about the emotions evoked by her mother's illness. Describing her own fears, difficulties and hopes, Carrie doesn't tell her readers what to feel; rather, she gently invites them into her world, offering them an opportunity to speak, draw, or consider their own feelings. Children need to share their feelings and ask questions, especially in stressful times -- and this book subtly and warmly encourages conversation between children and those who love them. Over two million cancer cases are diagnosed every year in the U.S., so the number of children who must deal with a loved one's illness is growing; each can benefit from Carrie's story.

            Customer Reviews:

            4 out of 5 stars A Must Read Book.....WHO IS CARRIE?.......2002-01-12

This fabulous book is about a kitchen slave named Carrie, who worked in Sam Fraunce's Tavern for as long as she can remember. After Carrie gets kidnapped and almost sold off to the West Indies, she realizes that she doesn't even know her own last name, or who her true family was. When Carrie's long time friend Dan Arabus comes to town, they talk about how Dan has alomost $300 in "notes" because Dan's father Jack Arabus fought in the Revolutionary War. So basically a "note" is an I OWE YOU from the Government.Jack Arabus died fighting in the Revolution so Dan got all of his fathers notes.
After talking to Dan, Carrie decides that she really has got to find out who she is, and if she is a slave or not.Once I finished reading this beutiful Historical Fiction Novel I then realized the hardships of slavery. I would recommend this book to all ages and bothe males, and females because this book was easy to understand, yet it was somewhat hard to read with the old 1800's accents and dialects of the Northern Colonies. Also elders would would probably remeber a little about slavery because this went on until the 1950's, ofcourse it was not as bad as it was in the 1800's but still slavery was indeed around then, so they could have a great time reading this book about how slavery was in the 1800's compared to the 1950's. I had to rate this book a four and one half stars because it was just a mystery until the very end and this just made me want to read it more and more so I could find out who carrie was and if she was a slave or not. Now you know how good of a book this was, and you should read it, and trust me, you will be more than happy that you read this amazing part of American History.

5 out of 5 stars Who is Carrie.......2001-04-28

James, and Christopher Collier describe this period in history perfectly. This is not like other boring books that the last twenty-three pages of the book you finally start to get into it. This book captures you from the first sentence and doesn't let you go tell the last word. Then you still want to know what happens to her. Although this book is historical-fiction. Alot of it is true.

            4 out of 5 stars A great book.......2000-07-09

I think this book was great .The author did a wonderful job of adding history to his story. my favorite character was carrie because she was brave and snecky. she was so cool.

5 out of 5 stars have read this over and over!!.......1998-07-03

Anyone who reads this book should be satisfied. It is engaging, not too long, and at the end you feel like you know the characters. Along with books War comes to Willy Freeman and Jump Ship to Freedom, the author has presented an interesting and realistic picure of the Revolutionary War. Carrie is a slave in a tavern in New York City. When her friend talks about freeing his mother, she becomes curious about her own family. In helping her friend, Carrie discovers some surprising things about herself.

I am using this book for a "Big Debate" at school. I am using it for a persuasive essay. This book carries much needed information for all suicidal topics. From physcian assisted suicide, to suicide in general. This informational book has tables and graphs to go along with the great stories and suprising facts. Use this book if you are stumped on a writing or reading project.
