A nice, comprehensive book, but give us some COLOR!.......2005-09-02
This book provides a thorough and comprehensive description of every darned geyser in Yellowstone National Park by a recognized expert. The descriptions are organized geographically by geyser basin, which is a good framework. Photographs are found throughout the book, but none in color. This is the book's primary drawback. On the other hand, inclusion of color would probably make the cost of the book prohibitive...... Great for reading about the geysers BEFORE going to the Park, but I wouldn't use this for a guidebook while IN the Park. I'd go to Carl Schreier's "Yellowstone's Geysers, Hot Springs & Fumaroles" for that. Together, the two books make an outstanding package.

If the phenomenon of geysers interests you, this is your book. It should be the yardstick by which all others on the subject are measured.
Superbly well organized, and written, this book readily conveys the author's enthusiasm for the subject. I would have preferred a few more color photographs in addition to the cover, but this is a minor quibble. The black and white photos are chosen carefully, and give a good idea of the feature involved.
The book discusses all known geysers in Yellowstone, which park contains a substantial majority of these features on the planet. Maps are supplied, and are easily deciphered. Data is given concerning the eruptive pattern of each geyser, where known, and this proved most helpful during a recent trip to this magnificent area.
The feature I enjoyed the most was the detailed appendix, setting forth all known geyser fields anywhere on Earth. I guarantee some of the locations and features will surprise you. The author also discuuses which of these fields are most endangered by unwise development of geothermal power.
Very, very highly recommended. Indeed, I should say it is indispensible for anyone planning a trip to Yellowstone National Park. Enjoy.

This is a fine book, but WHY is it cross-listed under "Natural Disasters"? Geysers are no more "disasters" than trees or rivers are. I don't get it.
Indispensable geyser guide.......1999-05-21
Now in its third edition and completely revised, this geyser Bible remains the definitive guide to Yellowstone's erupting thermal features. Detailed maps of each of Yellowstone's geyser basins and colorful descriptions of every known geyser make the book both easy to read and easy to use when stalking eruptions of even the most elusive geysers. A fascinating list of all the world's other known geyser regions, many of which have suffered from geothermal development, makes the reader realize all the more what a special place Yellowstone really is.
The Best Geyser Reference Book.......1999-04-23
The Geysers of Yellowstone is best guide to Yellowstones thermal features I know of, but I wish it would include some of the non-eruptive hot spring and mud pots. Never the less, the book is packed with in-depth information on everything the ever erupted in Yellowstone at time. I am a Yellowstone visitor for 8 years running, and more than half this book, I still don't know! A MUST for any geyser lover.

This little field guide is hands-down the best guide to use in choosing which geysers to view, and where, while in Yellowstone National Park. T. Scott Bryan's "The Geysers of Yellowstone" is also a great book, but has few photos and all in black and white (except the cover), and its comprehensiveness reduces its usefulness for quick consultation during a visit. Buy Bryan's book to learn everything there is to know about Yellowstone's Geysers, but buy Schreier's gorgeously illustrated and compact Field Guide for use IN the Park on your vacation.

This book has all the information you need about the geysers in Yellowstone. Which basin of the park each geyser is located. It has maps of the different basins and where you will find each of the Geysers. Includes color pictures of each geyser and gives great detail about each, including intervals of when the geyser errupts.

I cannot speak highly enough of this book.
My boyfriend and I just got back from our first trip to Yellowstone- and this book was invaluable to us.
We took it with us as we went to the various geyser basins. It was incredibly helpful!
We read about the geysers,hot springs, fumuroles and mud pots as we got to each one.
The book also has great color photos of each feature.
It is broken down into these sections:

As an example, here's what the book says about Fountain Paint Pots (in the Lower Geyser Basin):

Temperature= 202.8 degrees F
Dimensions: 80 X 40 feet
Fountain Paint Pots was originally named "Mud Puff" by the 1871 Hayden survey and later turn-of-the-century tourists called it Mammoth Paint Pots.But guide books referred to the area as Fountain Geyser and Paintpots and the name was adopted in 1927.
The mud is composed of clay and fine particles of silica broken down by acids and grinding action.
The tinting of the mud in colors of pink and gray from iron oxides is derived from the original rock.
The bubbling action results in escaping steam and gasses- mainly carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide.
In the spring and early summer the mud is thin and the pots boil. By late summer and fall there is less moisture and the mud is thicker, creating unusual shapes and formations.

The only gripe that I have about this book is that it does not list every single feature.
There is a map at the beginning of each section- in red are the features that are talked about- and in black are the ones that are not mentioned.
In the Lower Geyser Basin- there were several feautures that we came to that were not talked about in the book, such as:
Leather Pool, Celestine Pool, Firehole Pool and Surprise Pool, Hot Lake, Jet Geyser, Twig Geyser, etc...
In the Midway Geyser Basin, Opal Pool is not talked about. We walked up to it and wanted to know more about it.
But I do highly recommend this book.
Most of the features are listed. The author talks about the history and goes into detail about the characteristics about the features.
I recommend this book for anyone taking their first trip to Yellowstone. Take this book along with you as you tour the fascinating geological features of the park.You will be glad that you had this helpful guide.
This book also is great for everyone who loves Yellowstone and would like to learn more about the magic of this park.
A very useful book when touring Yellowstone National Park........1998-11-13
I took my family to Yellowstone National Park hoping to see some of the more unusual geysers in action. Carl Schreier's book was a great help in choosing which geysers to wait for to see the eruptions. For each geyser, hot spring, and fumarole, Schreier's book contains a photo and interesting information concerning the discovery of the various thermal sights, and an accurate description of the interval and duration of the geysers. Everyone in our family was reading it.

This book is about a thirteen year old boy that was living in Harlem Newyork .Jimmy had a father but he was in jail for doing drugs. While his father was in jail he escape and was being looked for all over. When Jimmyâ(tm)s father escaped from jail he took Jimmy with him to go hide in the west coast by Arkansas and another state. Every time Jimmyâ(tm)s father would see a cop he would run. The cops would put a wanted sign looking for him. . So in the end of the father gets caught and Jimmy goes and move back with his mom. I recommend this book to kids or young adults that like to read books about criminals.

America's best selling book, somewhere in the darkness by Walter dean Myers has won a Newbery honor award. As soon as you start to read you will never stop.
A life of a fourteen years old boy named jimmy is holding his own little world. He lives in Harlem. He never saw his father and lives with his mom. Suddenly one day he was walking home from school, he saw a man standing in front of his house. That's when the book starts to get interesting.
I will recommend this book as one of the best book. The writing style is very persuasive. The father of jimmy is very dramatic. You will never know what he going to do next. This book has professional language and easy to read. This book is like more reality then fiction.
It is the best time to try it out. It will probably take you week and half to finish it up. It also has lot of drama. Don't waste your time go ahead and start reading today.

I absolutely recommend this book to all readers. Walter Dean Myers does a fabulous job in showing Jimmy's varied perspectives towards his father. This was a well-written, realistic fiction book that had a perfect mix of action and emotion. This book had plenty of surprises, too. One example is when the police caught Crab and Jimmy. As I was reading this book, I couldn't wait to discover the content of the following page, due to the fact that Jimmy and Crab are always looking over their shoulder for a dangerous finish. For all of those who enjoy an exciting quick-read, this book is for you.

One day his dad Crab shows up after 14 years.Jimmy dads wonts to take jimmy with hime to Chicago.After that things start to go wrong they both learn about each other.It is a intense story it keeps you wondering what will happen. I really liked this book be cause it takes you on a wild adventure.

When I read this book I was surprised that it was so moral and that it points out some problems we have in real life. After I went to read the authors bio I noticed that most of the things he has in his books are something similar to his life and I was not surprised his favorite books are ones he can relate to. That being said if you want an action book this isn't your best pick but if you want something that will make you think then go for it.
