Product Description
Tracing the geological and railroad history of the Pacific Northwest, Leon Speroff uniquely evokes the Age of the Railroad in his newst book, The Deschutes River Railroad War. With intricate detail, expert understanding and amusing anedotes, he brings to life this facinating true tale of the race to expand railroad service from the Columbia River up the Deschutes River to Bend, Oregon. When the two railroad barons, James J. Hill of the Great Northern and Edward H. Harriman of the Union Pacific, both set their sights on the Deschutes River Canyon for building a railway to Bend, neither man could have foreseen the massive expenditure of money, time, energy and human lives that characterized their mad rush to the finish. At the heart of this gripping story is the essence of the American West and the magnates, workers, immigrants and settlers whose impact on the region would usher the age of railroad transportation into the Twentieth century.

Oregon Trunk Railroad History.......2007-01-19
I enjoyed this book wriiten about the building of the Oregon Trunk Railroad in Central Oregon. The book begins with a credible, yet understandable look at the geology of the watershed, continues to the overall history of the competition between UP and GN railroad presidents and then to the particulars of the construction of the lines on both sides of the Deschutes river. I liked it because it wasn't only a railroad book, nor a roadside geology book, nor a history book, but all three to some degree. I would recommend it to anyone interested in the Deschutes river canyon, it's history, geology, or railroads.

sloww........2007-09-07
Okay, this book is sooo slow. Nothing happens, like, at all. She meets someone famous. She ruins the senior prank. She gives a teacher back her doll. That is basically everything!
great!.......2007-09-02
This book is simply amazing! I loved it loved it loved it! If you even LIKE Meg Cabot you are going to fall in love with her writing in this one! It is simply amazing and just fantastic! I definitely did not expect it to be this great but it was!! Buy with confidence- you are going to love this book!!
Courtesy of Teens Read Too.......2007-04-02
Jenny Greenly has been everybody's best friend or, like her REAL best friend called her, mayonnaise. She even helps out people with them not knowing it's her. You see, Jen is the secret advisor, Annie, who people go to to solve their personal relationships. She does the layout and the other secret thing (being Annie) for the Clayton High School Register in Clayton, Indiana. Of course, only the editor-in-chief of the newspaper and a few other administrators of the school know about the Ask Annie thing. But something very big is about to happen in the small town of Clayton.
Nineteen-year-old screen sensation Luke Striker is coming to this town to research a role for a big project coming up. So the school suggested Jenny be the one to show Luke around the school and keep this whole deal a secret. They decided for him to be a transfer student named Lucas Smith. Jen thought that Luke was going to be coming in like a week -- not the very next day! Anyway, Jen is not the type of person who gets star struck by a CELEBRITY! But I guess this was a very first for her. As she got to spend more time with Luke she seemed comfortable around him and didn't think he was one of those people who are just snotty, mean, and self-centered.
But will Luke turn out to be someone Jen didn't think he was going to be? Will she blow his cover with a little mistake or will Luke manage to do that on his own? Find out!
This book is so awesome! It's just so many things happening that you feel like you're totally in the moment! I personally think that Meg Cabot's books are really good and just right on with the every day life of teens. This book deserves a total of 5 Stars and a Gold Award.

Best YA by Meg Cabot.......2007-01-10
I've read almost all of the books Meg Cabot has out, but I think this one is my favorite. Jenny Greeley, an average high school student in small-town Indiana, becomes a student guide for Luke Striker, the movie star who is attending her school undercover to prepare for his latest role. It's funny and relatable, a good but not depressing portrait of life in high school.
Teen Idol, an awesome book.......2006-12-19
I read the book Teen Idol, by Meg Cabot. In the book there is a girl named Jen Greenley, who likes to help or solve other people's problem. She is a people pleaser until an actor named Luke Striker comes to her high school to see what school is like for his part he will play in a movie. This book is a teen romance novel. This book has what it is like to be in high school, a novel everyone can relate to because every high school has these same type of problems that are in this book. I like this book because I related to the character. Jen Greenley is quiet and tries to help everyone and everyone likes her. I'm am like this at my high school I help people and mostly everyone likes me or gets along with me. The part about the book I didn't like was the ending but I won't say that because I don't want to spoil the end. The ending was just kind of weird is all I will say. I couldn't put the book down because it was so good, I just wanted to read it forever even when I was down with it. I also think this book would make a good movie.
I had never read a Meg Cabot before, and I didn't really want to because they looked too girly for my taste. A friend told me to read so I did and I loved it. This book is for all the high school girls in the world. A book we can all agree on ( or most of us any way). I think I will read more of Meg Cabot books for now on. If you like chick flick movies you will really enjoy this book.

People teens admire talk about God.......2007-04-13
Author Amy Hammond Hagberg wanted to help teens--her own and others--answer questions about God, including the big question: "How do you know he's real?"
Hagberg wrote to sports stars, recording artists and other celebrities, asking them to reflect on their life experiences and share how the reality of God was making a difference to them personally and professionally. The responses she received--from NBA players, Christian musicians, 'American Idol' contestants and others--are honest, revealing, and often compelling.
The resulting book is a collection of celebrity essays: mini-bios that focus on the reality of God in the midst of media attention, success and failure, and broken relationships. Contributors include Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic basketball team, quarterback David Carr of the Houston Texans, and popular Christian recording artist Clay Crosse.
Some of the interviews are especially helpful for Hagberg's original target readers: teens. Among these, Chrissy Conway of 'Zoe Girl' talks about her parents' divorce, the party scene, and the twists and turns along her personal career path in ways that connect with teens and with anyone who has ever considered attempting a career in music.
Hagberg is a gifted and skilled writer who keeps readers turning the pages as she unpacks celebrity affirmations of the presence of God in their lives. A great gift book for readers from teens through Gen X, but the stories here will interest readers of any age!
Note: Reviewer Dr. David Frisbie is an author and Executive Director of The Center for Marriage & Family Studies in Del Mar, California.
Armchair Interviews says: Anything that can help teens understand their role in living a good life is good.
Celebrities share their faith.......2007-03-11
This is an ideal book to give to people who have questions about becoming a Christian, and who love sports and music celebrities.
44 extreme sports and music celebrities tell their stories in this book, from Jonny Lang (recording artist), to Barlow Girl (rock group), Kimiko Soldati (Olympic diving), CJ Hobgood (surfer), Dwight Howard (NBA player, Orlando Magic), Mick Hannah (downhill mountain bike racer), Jimmie McGuire (professional motocross rider) and more.
They share hard times they faced, how they became Christians and how their paths are more joyful due to their faith. Being a Green Bay Packer fan I turned to Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila's story of growing up in South Central Los Angeles with a tough background, a Muslim dad and a Christian mom, and how his becoming a Christian led to his current happy family life and NFL career. Christian Hosoi, professional skateboarder, after serious drug problems, is now leading a skateboarding ministry.
The two page "God's Road Map" at the end of each celebrity's story contains perceptive questions and Scriptures. Sports and music lovers will enjoy this book, and it can even be a "past watchful dragons book" that will steer doubting people on a new clear path.
god unplugged.......2007-02-02
God Unplugged by Ammy Hagberg was very interesting. It is 403 pages long and was published in 2006 by Destiny Image. In the story top athletes, musicians, and also stars tell how god helped them get where they wanted to be and changed their lives.
In the story there were 44 celebrity reflections on true life experiences with god. Many of these celebrities have been extremely low in their lives and god has pulled them out of them. Also in some cases they have had no luck in there lives and finally achieved their goals after they gave there lives god. All of these people believe that god has either given them opportunities or even the strength to work through where they were to get to where they want to be.
I thought that this was a good book. I enjoyed reading it and seeing how god has changed all of these people's lives. The strengths of this book are that it has top named celebrities that people actually want to read about. The weakness of this book is that there is nothing to find out nest so you don't have a reason to keep reading. I did like how god actually gave them the strength to continue and succeed in life. The writing was very boring to me, but I liked the idea.
The book gave a lasting effect on me because I have a saint Christopher necklace that my grandma gave to me before she passed away and that keeps me safe when I race motorcross. So, I think that god has a great power on us. I would recommend this book, it will make you think.
After reading this, you certainly KNOW he is real!.......2007-01-25
Truly, this, and the book before this, are really awesome books!
** Why?
Because they give some very good insights into other peoples way to God. Not only that, if you don't know the Bible inside and out (and even if you do, actually!), there are quotations from the Bible explaining the why and hows, depending on the story of the person interviewed.
All this, with Amy Hagbergs very nice way of writing (down to earth serious mixed with a nice blend of humor) makes this book a pleasure to read!
Personally, I strongly recommend this book to everyone. It might be those who Seek, or those who have found, it doesn't matter, in my opinion! :)
Fantastic book!.......2007-01-24
What a great book! Amy Hagberg has gathered some of today's biggest sports and music celebs to talk about how they know God is real. This book is in stark contrast to so many of today's depressing, tragedy-focused headlines. And the list of celebrities is impressive! [...]

Rocka-Mish-Mash.......2004-04-15
The twenty-five years of teen idols inhabiting the silver screen ranges from 1954-1979, beginning with Marlon Brando starring in The Wild One. Onwards to the teen exploitation films of the fifties, the clean teens of the early sixties, surfing teens of the mid-sixties and the psychedelic teens of the late sixites. The teens of the seventies are, what else, kings and queens of the discos.
This book, published in the UK, pays homage to British teen heartthrobs that next to no one in the US has ever heard of: Helen Shapiro, Jess Conrad, Terry Dene and Ray Brooks, to name an obscure few. There's lots of Simon-ish cutting; sarcastic British humor.
This 350+ picture book seems slapped together with disjointed stills containing a one sentence explanation for each. A few rate two sentences. There's also some strange production stills: Elvis pulling a machine gun on his manager, off-camera antics on the set of "Winter A Go Go" and James Darren with surf-mate Pamela Tiffin looking bored while floating in a studio tank.

Book Description
You didn't need to know their last names for these teen idols to rock your world. A first name alone was enough to provoke screaming, fainting, and unprecedented cases of mass hysteria. Their name on the cover of a fan magazine -- DAVID! RICK! LEIF! -- was enough to get you to buy it if only to kiss their picture inside. They had your heart, and all it took was a song and a wink from their baby blues...right...at...YOU.
From Elvis to *NSYNC, Donny Osmond to Debbie Gibson, and David Cassidy to Ricky Martin, VH1 Behind The Music: Teen Idols takes a glance at the past few decades of teen scream objects. It's an inside peek into the world of a teen idol -- from garnering the first #1 hit to gaining the love of millions -- and what happens to careers once the loving stops. Check in on today's boy bands and girl bands that started a craze, and some of the heart-stoppers from the '70s and '80s who made it out of idoldom with their dignity intact.
Relive your teen years without the brain-dulling hormonal rampage you went through way back when. Dip into Behind The Music: Teen Idols and check out the serious business of being a fan.
