What can I say about Magic Tree House Books? Wow! My eight year old son has been reading them for quite a while now. Our public library does a great job at keeping a variety but doesn't always have the one that he's just dying to read today. I hope that by giving him at least a few of his own favorites that are in this set to keep on hand at home will satisfy his very large reading appetite.

I bought these for my 6 year old grandson for his birthday. He was excited to get them, but they were laid aside for the even more exciting toys that he received. However, as the toys got boring, these books became more entertaining. Currently he is immensely enjoying reading them. They are excellent beginning readers.

Library Lion is well written and gives the opportunity for the reader to discuss through the illustrations what various areas of a library are such as stacks, the circulation desk, new book collection, story time area, catalogue (although you'll have to point out that this illustration is of the old card system and not the modern computer catalogue's that children of today will be familiar with but that's a nice light lesson in itself) and so forth. This an excellent book for teachers to read to their class before an excursion to a library or parents who want to teach their kids about library services.

The book also teaches children through the actions of the library assistant Mr McBee, the consequences of jealousy and being rude to those who you don't really like. Also educates kids on the rules of the library like not running and respecting others through being quiet (something a lot of adults could also learn from ie yelling into mobile phones while in the library). It also teaches children that there are times when it is okay to break rules such as when someone is injured.

The basic story is a lion one day walks through the door of an old style library much to the dislike of the circulation library assistant and the shock of a lot of the patrons. The assistant wants the lion gone but the head librarian tells him everyone is welcome in a library as long as they don't break the rules. The lion enjoys story time, and disappointed upon it ending gives a loud roar. This immediately draws the wrath of Miss Merriweather the head librarian and the lion learns if it roars again in the library it will not be welcome and not able to enjoy future story time sessions. Everyone comes to love the now well behaved and helpful lion except the jealous Mr McBee. One day while not following proper workplace health and safety practices (another lesson but likely over the head of younger kids but general safety issues can be introduced for discussion by the reader here) Miss Merriweather has an accident. The lion knows it must get help but also that it is forbidden from roaring. What happens next are important lessons for children and adults alike but rest assured everything turns out all right in the end.

A very good book and importantly enjoyable for the adult reader as well as children.

I bought this book for my 3-year-old granddaughter. She really enjoyed it...she was mesmerized while I was reading it to her. We both love big cats of any kind...so, this story was special to us. The illustrations are really enjoyable, as well.

Library Lion pokes gentle fun at library rules and makes us all wish we had a lion at our library. Libraries need a helpful, polite lion who loves story hour, lets children rest against his soft fur, and never roars... unless the librarian falls off her chair and needs help. After all, lions can't yell or call 911.

I am fifty Years Old, and have been reading the daily comics in newspapers since the age of seven. Pearls Before Swine is without a doubt one of the most entertaining strips of all time. Stephen Pastis' wit is razor sharp, I look forward to reading Perls every day, and my of my best friends at work calls me every day and we laugh like all get out. I am glad he left the legal profession, and hope he never stops doing Pearls.

This book is very good. However it is one that some people need to take with a grain of salt. Stephen Pastis is a very gifted comic strip writer for the fact that he knows the English vocabulary very well and knows how to play with it. Also Pastis likes to venture on some of the territory that other comic strip writers would find taboo which in turn makes him highly controversial which is strange for the fact that he doesn't step to far over lines like most of the comedians now days that don't believe a joke is worthy unless he/she sees someone gag. When it comes the art, I at first was naive enough to take his simple drawings as bad or unpolished drawings when fact most of his strips would be ruined if the drawings were not simple and to the point.
Overall I think this is a book well worth owning and the author might not have the artistic flare as the author from "get fuzzy" or have the same view of comics as Bill Watterson where bigger is better or isn't as warm and fuzzy as "Mutts" and "Family Circus" but he is definitely a gifted writer and I believe and hope will go on for many more years.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

I really liked this book. It is one of several that I purchased after coming back from Tanzania, and I have recommended it to others. The author is straight-forward about his situation, so I wouldn't recommend it to children under, say, 12, but it is quite moving as an adult book, though he wrote it for young people.

Facing the Lion is the amazing TRUE story of a Maasai boy growing up in Kenya. I first heard about this National Geographic book from my son's 8th grade world history teacher - it was on a summer reading list. B-O-R-I-N-G - right? Well think again. You will not be able to put this book down! The boy grows up tending his family's herd of extremely valuable cows - and that means standing guard at night when lions literally leap from the bush to decimate the livestock. The lessons that the boy learns from incredible adventure, adversity, and challenge in his African upbringing only serve to give him the drive, determination, and power to succeed at HARVARD. My husband read the book on a plane and now uses a number of examples in his consulting practice. A FUN read and a WONDERFUL book for ANYBODY - teens to adult.

We have about seven of his pop-up books and they are all great. If you have not bought one of his books, you will be amazed. It is definitely an art form. I have a 5 year old and he loves these books (he just got this one for his birthday). The incredicle pop-ups really make reading fun and add another dimension to these storybooks. I will contine to coolect them as they make new ones. The price is worth it and you should probably buy it here because I saw one of his books in Target for about 10 dollars more than on Amazon.

Really helped my 2.5 year old deal with his asthma.......2007-06-06

My son is 2.5 and recently diagnosed with reactive airway disease. He really enjoys this book, and it has helped us talk to him about his breathing. Sometimes we ask him if he feels like the lion or if the lion is scared. It also seems to help when he doesn't want to use his nebulizer.

Wonderful Book!.......2004-08-28

My son developed asthma at 7 months of age after being hospitalized with RSV. He is now only 1 years old, but does enjoy this book as much as a 1 year old can. The reason I bought it was for my 3 year old who had many questions about why his little brother had to have breathing treatments, wasn't feeling well, etc. This book was perfect. Not too medical in it's terms, adorable illustrations, lovely story line about using fantasy to make treatments better. I can't wait until my 1 year old is old enough to really enjoy and understand it. I highly recommend it for parents of asthmatics, or any one with young children who are around other children with asthma.

The Lion who had Asthma.......2002-08-08

This is a great book to help kids with Asthma realize that breathing treatments with a nebulizer are not always fun -- but they can turn it into fun just like the boy in the book. My daughter had a different view of the required breathing treatments after reading this book. We were lucky enough to come across it at our local library but Santa might just have to bring it for Christmas this year!

Very Cute.......2002-03-15

This is a cute story. My son was recently diagnosed with asthma. While he doesn't have to be on an inhaler nebulizer at this time, he does hate what asthma does to him. He has to stop running and wait until his medicine starts to work. We are able to read this book and talk a little about asthma (He's 2) and about what it means for him. This book is a great one for reassuring little kids that they are ok, that others have this, and that soon they can play again.

The only reason I rated this a four instead of a five is that I think the text is a little stilted at times.

Grrr-eat!.......2001-12-30

I was so happy to find this book to read to my 2 year old! He doesn't like the nebulizer mask and any picture with a child wearing one helps. A story of a little boy just like him is the icing on the cake! The simple facial expressions help my son relate to the feelings he has.

Wonderful.......2007-07-06

Four children, Lucy, Edmund, Suan and Peter are sent to live in the countryside home of an eccentric english professor during the Blitz of 1940. One rainy afternoon, Lucy hides in an old wardrobe an enters the magical land of Narnia.
This is the first of the Narnian chronicles written (although in the internal chronology of the series it is the second), and is slightly different in tone and internal consistency from the other books. The (much talked about) Christian allegory is most overt in this book- , but when I first read this as a young teen, I barely noticed. It's just a lot of fun: talking animals, evil witches, battles and adventures. It's not the best in the series, but it is a wonderful book, and a milestone in children's literature.

A Microcosm of God's Grand Cosmos.......2007-06-12

So I cheated. I saw the movie before I read the book and now I feel robbed. I feel robbed of the richness of this book that I've had so much fun with over just a couple of days. I was only able to find a few lines here and there that added to what the movie portrayed. They were rich and fantastic lines, don't get me wrong. In short, if you've seen the movie recently, give this book a little while before you read it. You'll find yourself appreciating the remembrances of the movie.

"The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" was the first book that C.S. Lewis wrote in his Narnia Chronicles. It contains the foundational scenes for the rest of the Chronicles, even for the prequel "The Magician's Nephew."

In "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," the reader finds the clear Gospel story of Narnia. The reader finds the God-Lion Aslan, who is a suppositional figure for the God-Man Jesus Christ. The reader finds Aslan acting as Christ in self sacrifice as well as in final victory. The reader finds a whole new world which is a microcosm of this world --- in the course of 206 short pages, we are taken from the fall into sin to the glory of the restored earth.

The Chronicles are meant to be children's stories. There is much scholarship out there that tries to read these Chronicles without the acknowledgment that in order to truly understand Narnia, as with the Bible, you must come with the believing faith of a child. The simple logic that Lewis invites us to engage in with the 4 Pevensie children is that "there is nothing more probable"(p.54) than another world under God's control and that if we are invited into it - it will mean something to us for the rest of our lives.

Like being invited into the world of God's Word - read, heard, and received in sacraments of Baptism and Lord's Supper - we are invited into the world of Narnia which changes us forever more. Narnia teaches us the story of God and it teaches us the story of ourselves. It teaches us the wild and untamed truth that there is an Aslan, or someone like an Aslan, out there just waiting to appear to us and redeem us.

Good Mythology.......2007-06-11

Four siblings--Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, are staying clear of the war in England by staying in a huge old house in the country with an old professor. As they are left alone most of the time, the children are free to wander and explore the huge house. One day while exploring, Lucy steps into a wardrobe, and walks into another world, the world of Narnia. There she finds that she is not in the wardrobe anymore but is instead in a forest of trees, covered in snow. She meets a faun and spends the afternoon having tea with him. The faun confides that a wicked queen rules the land, making it always wintertime and never Christmas, and that he has sworn to bring any humans he finds directly to her. There is a prophesy that someday four humans will come to sit in the thrones of the castle and that the queen will be defeated. Lucy convinces the faun to let her go, though.

When Lucy returns to her sister and brothers, none of them believes that she has really been anywhere, and she is very upset. Soon afterward, Edmund follows her into the wardrobe and is shocked to discover that his sister was telling the truth. Unable to find her in Narnia, though, he meets the wicked queen who charms him and makes him promise to bring her his brother and sisters.

Soon afterward, all four children find themselves caught in Narnia. Peter and Susan and Lucy are eager to meet Aslan, the great lion who is said to be coming near to end the eternal winter. But Edmund sneaks off to announce the presence of his siblings to the queen. Peter, Susan and Lucy are now in trouble. Will they be able to avoid being taken by the queen? Will they help their brother come over to the side of good?

I liked the descriptions of Narnia and the way things worked there. It's a great mythology. I also liked Aslan's character and the ways he handled problems that came up. I thought that Edmund's turnaround seemed too easy, though. He semed to slip from one side to the other with no effort. I also didn't like that the story of the children growing up happened too quickly, without incident. The end of the book went by much too quickly.

Narnia is Alive.......2007-05-09

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is one of the top ten best books I have ever read. To me it seemed as if the story was alive.

C.S.Lewis is a gifted writer; some books are just plain boring, but not C.S.Lewis's books. He starts the book a little dead but soon the story comes alive. His books are so exciting. I stood up late reading it sometimes. I felt as if I was apart of the story. With all the action and excitement the story grabbed me like a mother does to her child. If mom had not sent me to bed I would have most likely read the whole book in one night.

There were so many exciting scenes that barley any of them were boring. The scenes were so realistic that you could almost see a movie when you read. One of my favorite scenes was when Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy spoke medieval, it was funny.

Reading this book made me think. It made me think that even fake characters could seem real. It also reminded me of games and movies I have seen where just a simple person turned into a hero.

A Wardrobe Full of Imagination!.......2007-04-08

I read this book as a teenager, learning of Lewis from my passion for Tolkien. The book totally fascinated me then, and made me hungry for more. I remember reading a few more of the books in the series, and though I enjoyed them, I never did find the original magic in them that this one inspired. I lost one of the books or two and never completed the series, but years later I returned to it in order to read them to my step-son, and now I'm very glad to have read the whole series in it's entirity.
First off, this and the first book are absolutely the best ones. This time we started with the first book, which I think is named "The Magician's Nephew," and I daresay that as an adult I enjoyed it even MORE than "Wardrobe." The origins of the breach into Narnia and the original sin that freed the witch were fascinating to me.
But returning to "Wardrobe" was a true delight. Now that I can better digest the symbolism and glean more from the story with the added info learned from "Nephew," the book claimed a new tantalizing power over me. My step-son enjoyed it immensely, and couldn't wait to have another chapter read to him each night for bedtime.
As an adult I am now able to better appreciate Lewis's incredible talent for character developement and symbolism, as well as his strong imagination and elegant writing style. The rest of the books were also great, and I'm happy to have finally gotten around to reading them all. Certainly the least in the "Narnia" series is far and above the vast majority of children's chapter books. But for me, the first two are by far the best, approaching the status of even 'The Hobbit," and from me that is saying worlds.

This story is about a girl named Amanda freebold and her 2 younger siblings, Jemmy and Meg. At the beginning the 3 children and their mother live with a rich old lady named mistress trippet In London, England. She makes them work for money, except Meg and Jemmy. Their father went to Virginia to seek fortune. One day their mother got sick and eventually dies, so they run away from mistress trippet. They run into their mother's doctor Dr. Crider who takes them in. the next month they get on a ship to go to Virginia, it shipwrecks in Bermuda, they make a small town and leave on 2 makeshift boats to Virginia.... My favorite part is when Dr. Crider finds the children running away.

I would read lion to guard us if you like not to fast and not to slow books. Lion to guard us is a somewhat sad story a slow and some might put a little dull adventure.
There are three main characters. One is Meg the youngest girl, jimmy is in the middle for the ages. Amanda is the oldest and looks after them. Lion to guard us is a middle problem. Like when people steal oh wait I don't want to give the book away if you want to know read this book. Meg Jimmy and Amanda are going to Virginia for a reason and if you want to know the reason READ THIS BOOK!!!!

The Book, A Lion to Guard us is by Clyde Robert Bulla and illustrated by Michele Chessare. I think the book was good to me because it has a lot of sad moments and a lot of adventurous moments. And when there is a suspenseful part of the story they might end the chapter. Jemmy takes care of the door knocker their father gave them. Meg was the youngest she stayed by Amanda's side She was to quiet to step up and help much.

The main characters are Amanda, Jemmy, and Meg and their father.

Amanda, Jemmy , and Meg's Father gave them a lion door knocker before he lift for Jamestown for three years. They didn't see him since.
Amanda is the oldest of the group. She has to take more responsibility for Jemmy and Meg. [..]. He keeps care of the lion

Hello. My name is Ryan Adams. I will tell you about my story. The plot is that Jemmy, Amanda, and Meg will reach their dad in Jamestown. He is building houses for the colonists. At the beginning, their dad left them with the cook, mistress tippet, Sir Randolph. When he was about to leave he gave them the lion doorknocker head. He said, "This is the lion to guard you." Then they tried to look for him. Well, I can't tell you the whole story, so I will tell you why the story was great!
I really couldn't put it down because it was so tempting to find out if they find it or not. You should read it to find out too. The style of the author is sort of old fashioned.

This book is very good I really loved it. Amanda, Jemmy ,and Meg Freebold are all alone their mother is dead and their father is in Jamestown. Later Dr. Crider brings them to his house . The next day he took them to the boat heading for Jamestown. The writer tells the story in 1609. I really liked this book. I give this book five stars.

This is a beautiful book, both in the style of writing and in the story itself, and is sure to be a classic of children's literature. The characters are so well developed that the reader feels as if they are looking in on a real town and its happenings for a brief while and it is a truly inspiring glimpse. This is not just a book for children but a poetic and touching little tale. I highly recommend it to anyone. This book stands up to multiple readings and join equally recommended classics such as Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson or the works of E. L. Konigsberg.

I think I like The Tiger Rising better in retrospect than I did when I read it. It's a lot like looking back on how your parents raised you and realizing that all the go to bed, eat your vegetables, and occasional spankings weren't random acts of cruelty but rather a part of a plan implemented out of love. Likewise it took me awhile to recover from the cold shock of Kate DiCamillo's ending to appreciate all she had done in this book.
The Tiger Rising is the story of two children: shy, sad Rob who has recently lost his mother, and stubborn, sharp Sistine whose father ran off with another woman abandoning her in a small, southern town she hates. Both hate school and long for friendship . . . enter the tiger.
A tiger does not belong in a rusty, iron cage behind a southern hotel, but that is where he is, and the wonder of this creature captures the children. What is there to do but allow the tiger to escape?
The writing is truly amazing. As Rob puts it (about Sistine, but it applies to Ms. DiCamillo):
"Her words sounded the way all those things made him feel, as if the world, the real world, had been punched through, so that he could see something wonderful and dazzling on the other side of it."
Also, I always hesitate before calling someone a Christian author. It's as if I think the moment I do a P.R. Agent will write me and inform me that actually she is a Shiite Muslim, so I won't call Kate DiCamillo a Christian author. I will say, however, that she is an author Christians can rest comfortably in and have no fear.
She is a great writer.

Another Great DiCamillo Classic.......2007-07-07

The Tiger Rising was another great book by Kate DiCamillo. I picked this one up after reading The Tale of Despereaux and falling in love with that one. I've become a huge fan of her after reading these two books and can't wait to get my hands on a copy of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.

The Tiger Rising centers around a young boy by the name of Rob who keeps his emotions wrapped up inside. His mother has died recently and he and his father have moved from Kentucky to Florida so that his father could escape the heartbreak of losing her. They now live in the Kentucky Star Motel. His father has instilled in Rob that he should not show tears over his mother's death and that he should be strong, so Rob packs all of his emotions away "into a suitcase." He does this in all aspects of his life. He's picked on at school and instead of getting upset, he ignores it. Instead of voicing his dislike of anything, he pretends to not be bothered by it.

There's a new girl in town by the name of Sistine and she has the opposite problem of Henry. She has too much anger and displays it outwardly to everyone and comes off as quite arrogant. In a twist of events, Rob and Sistine become friends.

Rob has made a discovery that there is a tiger being kept in a cage in the woods behind the motel that he and his father are living in and shares this secret with Sistine. Thoughts and emotions are shared between the friends and a wise maid by the name of Willie May who works for the motel.

The Tiger Rising, like Despereaux, faces issues head on. Kate DiCamillo is not afraid to work with strong emotions and when she does address them, she does so beautifully. This book is written wonderfully and can be enjoyed by anyone. I can see it being especially meaningful to a child who has gone through loss of any kind at a young age.

Short, insightful story..........2007-06-10

Kate DiCamillo is the author of the Newbery-winning The Tale of Despereaux and the recent The Remarkable Journey of Edward Tulane. The Tiger Rising is a young adult novel from 2001 about twelve-year-old Rob Horton, the friend he finds in Sistine and his grief concerning the death of his mother. It's a short, insightful story.

I think they should read The Tiger Rising because it is a good book but at the same time it is sad. And it has alot
of cool stuff to. And i think its mean sometimes to cause animals die. Sothat is why you should read this book.
