Book Description

Marine photographer Bill Curtsinger has returned to Antarctica a number of times to photograph the animals and plants that survive in the icy, ice-capped waters at the end of the earth. Mary Cerullo shares his story with us, telling what's it like to start a diving trip by cutting a hole in ice eight to ten feet thick, then diving into the chilly depths with the light shining through your entry hole the only beacon to your escape route.

Bill's amazing photographs and his curiosity about the world combine to show us a strange and wonderful part of our earth, where some fish survive by having clear blood that acts like antifreeze, jellyfish and sponges and sea spiders grow enormous, the food chain is short, and even minor changes in conditions can affect the survival rate of baby penguins. We learn how penguins and seals are adapted for life on the ice and under it, how the ice acts like a greenhouse roof for marine plants during Antarctica's summer months, and how it keeps the water warmer than the air during the frigid winter.

Bill meets scientists from all over the world who travel to Antarctica to study not only its marine life, but weather, the stars, climate change, and human impacts. This is inquiry-based science, up close—and often under ice. A glossary and resource list at the end of the book continue the learning, and an excellent curriculum guide on Antarctica is available online from the American Museum of Natural History.

Book for Boaters.......2003-06-25

I have recently been trying to find great/simple recipes to cook on my propane stove while at my rustic cabin - this book sounded perfect! Well it is, if you do most of your camping on a boat or you are an avid fisher. It IS a wonderful resource for preparing for cooking on a boat or in small spaces, and has some great recipes, but if you're looking for R.V. or camping recipes - look elsewhere.

It's a good guide book, like how to be a princess. It has funny commentary from Paolo, Grandmere, Lilly, Tina, etc. But the Princess Diaries books themselves are a better read than "Lessons."

Princess Diaries.......2005-03-17

In the Princess Diaries, Mia Thermopolis is just thinking she is a regular freshman at Ablted Einstein high school. Then everything changes her life for good. Because her father has come to town to have a talk with Mia about something important. As they were talking she found out that she was the Princess of Genovia and if he was the prince than that makes her the princes of that country. So then she got all upset went in to the plaza were she paid the lady $5 to go to the bathroom so she could calm down. Then shuttle after that she diced to ask her self how dose the princes thing work out. Then her dad said that he would talk about seeing her for lesson. So she could be ready to take the thrown of the county . so Mia now is taking lesson and math lesson and has found it very rough. I think if the outcome is that she may not take the thrown and will just become normal. I would recommend it for some one to read because it teachers you a good lesson oh who you really are. That is what I think of the Princes Diaries book.

I want to be a Princess!!!.......2005-01-26

I really enjoyed reading this book. At first I had no idea what it was about.I have seen the Princess Diary movies so I sort of had and idea of what it was gonna be about.It what somewhat like the movie but different too. This book is a guide to being a princess. In the movie Amelia is an average teenage girl and all of a sudden her life changes because she has less then 3 months to become a princes. Somethings changed for her. Like the way she dresses and even the way she ete at a table and this book tells you about how to's of a princess.
I got a lot of boy advice from this book because it is true. It also includes many beauty care advice, fashion tip and just things to make a teenager a better person and rules they could live their days by. I would reccomend this to teenage girls who just like to have fun and need a tip here and there and to people who liked reading or seeing the Princess Diary movies.

Your Passport to Becoming a Princess.......2004-12-03

Princess Lessons, written by Meg Cabot, is a book about proper etiquette for a princess. The main character of the book, Mia Thermopolis, is getting some good advice on how to become a princess from her grandmother. This book was very interesting; I really liked it! It teaches you a lot about proper etiquette. It almost makes you feel like you are going to an etiquette school. Health, beauty, taking care of yourself, and just the right clothes and jewelry really do make a princess. This book keeps your attention the whole entire time you read it. My favorite part of this book is when Paolo (one of the stylists for Mia's hair and make-up) turns her into a real princess almost right "off the street." It was a lot of work! As far as recommending this book, I would say this is a great book to read! I think all teen and pre-teen girls should read this book. Once you are finished with this book, you will want to start brushing up your etiquette to become a princess!

I was actually disappointed by the book. I just didn't find the humor all that funny. It is made painfully obvious that the author doesn't care for Gabrielle all that much. I am a huge Xena fan, but this book just didn't do much for me.

A must have for ANY xenite, includes humorus quotations about Gabrielle, Xena and the fun side of life and such! Here's an example:

Copper breastplates intiminate. Thigh High boots convey power. Weapons are always appropirate accessories. Dress codes are not taken lightly.

Speak softly,but carry a big stick, and a big sabre, knife, a singing sword, a mace, and a shield, and a lasso..and a killer frisbee..and....

Consider: Gabrielle is beautiful. Gabrielle is almost entirely incomptent. Gabrielle's latest performance review was unbelivably positive.
Conclusion: Gabrielle continues to require my close, personal and hands on supervision,

If you have a sense of humor, you will enjoy this book. If you don't you will hate it. It is totally tounge in cheek and meant to be that way. Don't take it seriously, you're not supposed to. Personally I found the book hilarious, course I am naturally crazy. To judge whether or not you will like it; if you like the humorous episodes of Xena, then you will enjoy it. It has the same humor and one liners as they use on the show. Thanks for listening and Battle On my friends!
