Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

    Book Description

They're the majestic lords of the savannah--and as these magnificently beautiful photos and engaging text prove, the elephant is one of the most surprising and intelligent creatures on our planet. Christine and Michel Denis-Huot, the photographer/writer team who captured the life of lions so wonderfully, now do the same for this largest of all land mammals. Image after breathtaking image shows devoted mother elephants with their babies; lines of elephants trekking across a spectacular landscape; young elephants at play; and families of elephants spending the day in the marshes where they find food and water. Find out how the "curse of ivory" has endangered these awe-inspiring animals, how these giants have adapted to their environment, how they have developed a complex matriarchal society, and how they mate, rear their young, and feed. In addition to the original photographs, paintings and other artworks reveal how the elephant has been viewed throughout history, and help make this a truly fantastic encounter with nature's most unforgettable creatures.

This book has some good information and tips for the cyclist looking to get into touring. Ms. Vance offers some suggestions and ideas that even a seasoned tourist may find helpful. However...this is another example of either poor editing or proofreading, or both. There are just too many typographical errors, grammatical errors, etc. I hate to get hung up on that kind of thing, but it drives me to distraction. It gets to a point where you stop focusing on what the author is saying and start looking for the next missed period, sentence that doesn't start with a capital letter, or improper word usage. It seems that too many books that I've read recently are guilty of the same problem.

      secrets

Delia loves Double Dutch more than just about anything, and she's really good at it -- so good she and her teammates have a shot at winning the World Double Dutch Championships. Delia would die if she couldn't jump -- but Delia has a secret, and it could keep her off the team next year.

Delia's friend Randy has a secret too, one that has him lonely and scared. And while Delia and Randy struggle to keep their secrets, their school is abuzz with rumors about what malicious mischief the terrible Tolliver twins -- who just may have a secret of their own -- are planning.

Delia and Randy's secrets collide on what should be the happiest day of Delia's life, and the collision threatens to destroy their friendship. Why can't life be as easy for Delia as Double Dutch?

      3 out of 5 stars Double Dutch.......2006-06-20

I am a middle school Language Arts teacher who teaches high-level eighth grade students (in other words, VERY smart, motivated, and voracious readers). I suspect that when Sharon Draper was a teacher, she taught some lower-level students because this book seems to be clearly geared towards those students.

The author can write, but I feel this particular work is not challenging, as everything seems to be over-explained, and, though heartfelt, relatively two-dimensional. When each major character harbors a Secret, and through a series of incidents where all the Secrets are revealed, these Secrets don't meet up with deeper intellectual meaning. In short, I find both plot and character exist in the world of Afterschool Specials -- simple, over-explained and highly coincidental.

Many kids will enjoy this book, but mine will not.

3 out of 5 stars not my fave.......2006-05-04

this book was ok but it was missing something. the thing that got me the most was the way the kids talked. i'm in 8th grade and i don't talk like that. i mean who says peace out anymore? overall i thought it was a good book, but i have other books i'd rather read.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent book!.......2005-11-22

The book I have read was Double Dutch by Sharron M.Daper. I chose this book because it looked interesting. The main characters are; Delia, Randy, Yolanda, Toliver Twins, Cherline, and Narrator. Girls will most likely like this book because of the drama, and double dutching (ages:12-15).The main events are, Delia has a secret she can't read, and the finials of the Double Dutch competion. The theme of this book is friends are there for you no mater what.

My opinion of this book is that it is super. The weakness about this book is nothing its great! The good thing about the book is you can relate to it. It was interesting when the twins' mother bribed them. Della kept secret that she couldn't read. Her friend Yolanda spread the rumor that the Toliver twins were going to blow up the school because she was scared of them.

My conclusion on this book is that it is great and will relate to girls in high school and middle school. I strongly recommend this book for anyone to read. I recommend this book because a lot of girls can relate to this book.

Do you like to double dutch and want to read a really good book about friendship and unsolved secrects? Well I recommend you to read Double Dutch.

Double Dutch is about the main character Delia who is in the 8th grade like me. Delia has trouble with reading but keeps it a secret. She goes through good and bad experinces with her best friends Yolanda and Randy. But as you know Delia has a crush on Randy and he has a crush on Delia. The 8th graders go through a lot of stress with the double dutch chapionship and the biggest school bullies the Tolliver Twins. But see how something so tragical can bring everyone together!

I highly recommend that you read this book It will have you laughing and a little teary eye.

      Book Description

“Fusing academic prose with vividly rendered memories, Gaunt's journey is refreshing. . . . Gaunt successfully lifts ignored girls from obscurity to center stage. . . . With The Games Black Girls Play, Gaunt has created a necessary space for translating black girls' joy in a society that typically overlooks it. Hopefully, others will take their turn and jump in to keep the games going.”
      —Bitch

"In thoughtful and affectionate prose, Gaunt makes plain how the schoolyard syncopations of body and voice are both oral-kinetic play and improvised lessons in socializing girls into the unique social practices of black urban life. . . . The Games Black Girls Play is a smart, delightful and witty polemic of attributions; a cultural benchmark of the complex web of history, race and gender to suggest a `gendered musical blackness' and an `ethnographic truth' linking the `intergenerational cultures of black musical expression' as embodied in the infectious playfulness of black girls."
      —Black Issues Book Review

"Very informative and insightful. . . . A valuable source to add to one's collection."
      —AllHipHop.com

"By placing black girls at the center of her analysis, Kyra Gaunt challenges us to be ever mindful of the importance of gender, the body, and the everyday in our discussions of black music. The Games Black Girls Play is an exciting and original work that should forever transform the way we think about the sources of black, indeed American, popular music. This is a bold, brilliant, and beautifully written book."
      —Farah Jasmine Griffin, Columbia University

" The Games Black Girls Play not only makes the point that black girls matter, but that the games, thoughts, and passions of black girls matter in a world that regularly renders black girls invisible and silent. Gaunt brilliantly argues that the culture of black girls is a critical influence on contemporary black popular culture."
      — Mark Anthony Neal, author of New Black Man: Rethinking Black Masculinity

"A particular strength of Gaunt's text is the ethnographic dimension of her discussions. The reader is privy to the personal musical and cultural experiences of African American females of varying ages (including Gaunt herself)."
      —New Black Man Book Review

”It is written in an accessible style and the inclusion of personal musical and cultural experiences and histories of a variety of women, including the author, adds to the appeal. The infectious playfulness of the topic and Gaunt's own personal style and passion shine though.”
      —Journal of Folklore Research

When we think of African American popular music, our first thought is probably not of double-dutch: girls bouncing between two twirling ropes, keeping time to the tick-tat under their toes. But this book argues that the games black girls play —handclapping songs, cheers, and double-dutch jump rope—both reflect and inspire the principles of black popular musicmaking.

The Games Black Girls Play illustrates how black musical styles are incorporated into the earliest games African American girls learn—how, in effect, these games contain the DNA of black music. Drawing on interviews, recordings of handclapping games and cheers, and her own observation and memories of gameplaying, Kyra D. Gaunt argues that black girls' games are connected to long traditions of African and African American musicmaking, and that they teach vital musical and social lessons that are carried into adulthood. In this celebration of playground poetry and childhood choreography, she uncovers the surprisingly rich contributions of girls' play to black popular culture.

      Book Description

This colorful, vibrant treasury is the ultimate tribute to the unique sport and pastime of double Dutch. Written and compiled by celebrated author and journalist Veronica Chambers, Double Dutch is filled with her own personal memories of girlhood and jumping rope, along with poems, interviews, songs, history, quotes, rhymes, and photographs. At the heart of Double Dutch, though, is a celebration, not just of a sport, but of sisterhood-after all, it takes a few friends to make that rope really swing and those feet jump for joy.

This book provides pictures (old and contemporary) of children jumping, a collection of rhymes I have not seen in other books or web sites, and lots of history and information on jumping Double Dutch. This is a wonderful resource for Jump Rope for Heart Events!

5 out of 5 stars A Must Read to students, Double Dutch Teams and Coaches.......2004-06-13

As a Double Dutch coach and school teacher, this book reminded me of my childhood in NYC, as well as the importance of sharing the concept of teamwork with my team. It should be in every teacher and school library. A well done book. I salute you Ms. Chambers.

        Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars What a laughable book and pathetic message!.......1999-07-08

Rarely ever have I read such a sorry backward looking message. I picked up this book with interest. Yes, I am a proud progressive Democrat who believes in every American's right to good health care, housing, education, equal rights and privacy. Yet, I wanted to see what a conservative African American could find so wrong with the agenda of civil rights and economic mobility. What I found was laughable. The author's "points" are barely points at all. They are mostly attacks - quite defensive ones, indeed. These "attacks" seek to paint the author as white as possible, with a conservative brush which stems further and further to the far right as the reader goes into this book.

This book is a joke, simply put. African Americans and minorities - as well as whites - in America today do not need the Republican party of regression and privatization. The GOP of the past - with its occasional moderation and conserving conservatism - was bad enough. Yet, today's nativist and Southern-based and increasingly regionalized Republican party has no rooms for minorities or forward looking whites.

The author says that the GOP has room for minorities. That is wrong. The GOP will never have room for minorities until it changes itself dramatically and becomes the Democratic party. This book is a joke, as well as a defensive attempt to paint oneself as white as possible!

As for me, I will never be a part of a party which bashes unions and working people(as well as their public protections), caters to the interests of the rich and bigotry and attacks public safe guards for the poor and at-risk.

1 out of 5 stars Minorities and the Republican party do NOT go together.......1999-04-08

It has been said, quite correctly, that a black man voting Republican is not unlike chicken little voting for the Colonel for President. As GOP policies show, people of color are not welcomed in the party. Just look at the facts.

The GOP has tried to abolish basic civil rights guarantees for minorities and women, as well as the handicapped. They decimated the safety net under Reagan and tried to do it again under Gingrich and Dole in 1995. They favor privaitzation of Social Security and Medicare, the brunt of which would fall on blacks which are too old and too poor to bother to protest. They favor deep cuts in food stamps, Head Start and AmeriCorps. They in 1995 proposed deep reductions in public education spending, as well as Affirmative Action and pro-woman aid in colleges. They favor eliminating the income tax on the wealthy. They favor deep restrictions on the civil rights of immigrants. They favor English Only laws and repealing all gun control laws. They favor reductions in urban aid and public works. They refuse to back national health insurance or national job unemployment insurance.

Does this strike a picture of a conservative party that is dying to have black support? Of course not. The author is crazy to ever think that the word 'African American' and 'Republican' will ever go together. Sell outs never cease to amaze me!
