Book Description
Georgia magistrate, mother, wife, and sometime sleuth MacLaren Yarbrough has been invited to join the Magnolia Ladies' Investment Club and is plumb confused-she's definitely no heiress. But she tables that thought when, at her first meeting, she finds out-going club president Willena Kenan dead on the bathroom floor with a corkscrew protruding from her neck. Since it happened during a coffee break, when everyone left the room separately, no club member is above suspicion. But when the police find a trench coat with incriminating evidence, things get sticky.

Sprinkle Did It Again.......2007-07-08
What fun! I can always count on a Patricia Sprinkle book to brighten my day. Oh sure, there's a dead body -- sometimes in a gruesome predicament -- but Sprinkle manages, like every good mystery writer, to give us a compelling puzzle, a well-planned plot, a satisfying denouement, and plenty of side information along the way. In GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DIE? she manages to eviscerate developers who clear-cut land without thinking of the consequences, with a sideswipe at owners of gas-guzzling SUVs. And she does it without sounding like she's on a soap-box. Quite a trick to that.
This one is a winner!
Patricia Sprinkle gets better and better!.......2007-03-25
Each time I pick up one of Patricia Sprinkle's stories about Mac Yarbrough, I am sure that she will not be able to top the last one. However, each time I am pleasantly suprised with an even more complex mystery with extraordinary characters, all with convoluted reasons for being suspected of the crime or crimes.
For me, it just doesn't get any better. Having been born and raised in the south, these characters recall people I remember from my long-ago childhood.
Mac is a fictional character with whom I am sure I could be friends. I can picture friendly visits and lengthy conversations about things interesting to both of us.
The method of her reasoning and the teasing out of obscure information about the other characters keeps me guessing until the end of the book. The "reveal" in this book is presented in a manner that is every bit as good as any final act in a thrilling play. The scene has been set and that description has been written so well I can picture it all in my mind.
I can't imagine that anyone would be disappointed with this mystery. The rich descriptions of the characters, their motives and actions (sometimes irrational, just as in real life) and the ultimate solution by a very real and interesting protagonist, are all reasons to read this book.

Dick & Jane Reading Collection.......2006-10-30
I remember reading these books as a child and when I saw this collection I had to get it. I have always loved the pictures and the quiet; even simple lives of the children back in the 50's. Each book is a learning tool for reading and teaching children good values in life; whether it is in work or play. It also shows the importance of family in the everyday lifes of children. The value of connection and closeness to mom and dad.
Back to Basics .......2006-08-06
From the 1930's through the 1970's the "Dick and Jane" series of readers were the backbone of most public/private school reading programs. Sadly the books were phased out in the 1970's, but due to requests from parents Scott Foresman has reprinted the "Dick and Jane" series for a new generation. There are twelve books in this series as follows: We Look, Something Funny, Jump and Run, Guess Who, Go Away Spot, Away We Go, Who Can Help, We See, We Work, We Play, Fun with Dick and Jane. This set is great for beginning readers. We have utilized this series in our homeschool with great success. From this series I would then move on to the other Dick and Jane books "We Play Outside,Fun with Our Family,Fun Wherever We Are, We Play and Pretend." This series is also available in softcover format.

Great Gift for New Parents.......1999-12-30
Ditto the previous review about this hilarious book. I have given it several times as gifts to new Moms. It really helped me cope when someone gave it to me with my first child. It really does help you laugh at the frustrations and not feel like you are alone in experiencing them!
THIS BOOK IS GREAT!!!!!!!.......1999-06-30
This book is great. . . I love this book. I started reading this book yesterday. I read a little of it and then a little later my Mom read me the whole thing. This book is hilarious and funny. And my Mom said that some of those jokes happened to her with me.
A must for any new or about to be new parents!.......1997-08-04
What a great book! If you thought "What to expect when your expecting" was telling you everything, THINK AGAIN! Every cartoon has something for the new (or old) parent. I laughed so hard when reading this book, it actually started my labor. The antics of Zoe really prepared me for my own child, and I enjoy every one of the Baby Blues books over and over as my child grows. When I feel that life is overwhelming with my baby, I read one of these books and suddenly, it all comes into focus, because obviously other parents have gone through the same thing. I have purchased these books for other mom's or mom's to be that I know, and they're great books for a baby shower

When, for some strange reason, Clarice Bean's parents can't find anyone to babysit for a few days, they must resort to Uncle Ted, a firefighter ("so he wears special pants") who occasionally lassoes lamps and "can get you in a firefighter's carry before you can say 'Uncle Ted put me down!'" All goes well for a day or two, as Clarice Bean's daylight-despising older brother, phone-chatting big sister, accident-prone younger brother, and wandering Grandad, manage to say things like "please and thank you and sorry... and let people share their stuff without grumbling." But then her little brother Minal Cricket lets Albert (the school guinea pig on spring break) out of his hutch, and the fragile family balancing act topples. In no time, Minal is on his way to the emergency room, after an accidental bop on the head with a soccer ball, Grandad has wandered into the neighbor's house to watch the horse races, and the entire fire department shows up in time for Clarice Bean's mom's return.
It's no wonder Clarice Bean and her cool uncle get along "like a house on fire (ha ha)." Quirky and feisty, these two have a way with calamity that readers won't soon forget. Nor will they forget Lauren Child's unusual and tremendously appealing cut-paper and photographic collages. Her text wends its way around the illustrations, spiraling if need be, and growing or shrinking as appropriate. Fans of Lauren Child's Clarice Bean, That's Me will do backflips of joy to see a new title about this precocious girl and her very nutty family. (Ages 6 to 10) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
Lauren Child’s spunky character returns and—as if things could get any livelier in Clarice Bean’s household—Uncle Ted is babysitting!
Uh-oh! Mom and Dad have to go away for a few days and who can they get to babysit? Who would be willing to take on the irrepressible Clarice Bean, her pesky brother Minal Cricket, and the school’s guinea pig, Albert, who’s visiting for spring break? (Not to mention teenage brother Kurt, who abhors daylight; big sis Marcie, who chats on the phone all day; and Grandad, who tends to wander off.) Surprisingly, only Uncle Ted,
firefighter and movie addict, can be persuaded. Will he survive the week? Find out, in Lauren Child’s hilariously original sequel to her award-winning CLARICE BEAN, THAT’S ME.
Customer Reviews:
comedic chaotic city life!.......2002-08-07
What a busy book! Lauren Child has created a tongue-twisting, mind-boggling story about the adventures of two city kids whose Mom must hurry off in help of her own brother, a policeman, who has slipped on a doughnut & hurt his legs.
Who can Mom get to babysit her two darlings? Not her older children. Not anyone in her family, nor any neighbors until, her daughter asks about Uncle Ted. What a good idea!
Safe in the care of a Fireman, Mom rushes to her other brother's side, & the fun begins!
I realize Lauren Child thinks she has written "only" a children's book - however, once you've read GUESS WHO'S BABYSITTING? I bet there'll be other bigger thoughts simmering away!
A great family read!
Rip Roarin' Fun!.......2001-06-01
When Clarice Bean's Uncle Ernie slips on a doughnut and breaks both his legs, her mother has to rush to New York and help him out. Unfortunately her dad has to go away on important business and the only person they can find to babysit Clarice, her phone talking older sister, Marcie, her sun hating big brother Kurt, her accident prone little brother Minal and wandering Grandad is Uncle Ted. Clarice is thrilled. Uncle Ted is the best. He's a firefighter who loves westerns, can lasso lamps or kids and has been known to break a few things in the past. Mother leaves very strict instructions. She wants her house in one piece when she gets back and all goes very well for the first two days. But then Minal let's the school guinea pig, Albert, that they're taking care of over spring break, out of his cage and all heck breaks loose..... Lauren Child's sequel to Clarice Bean, That's Me will have both old fans and new readers jumping for joy and laughing out loud at the antics of this "typical" family. Narrated by Clarice, this charming and hilarious story really captures the essence of the grade school mind as she tells everyone about the terrible chain of events that was set off when Albert got away. Ms Child's delightful prose is almost outdone by her creative cartoon and collage artwork and even the text is artistic, changing fonts and size and wrapping itself in and around the illustrations. Perfect for youngsters in grades 1-4, Clarice Bean, Guess Who's Babysitting is a rip roarin' good time the whole family will enjoy.
FULL-ON FUN.......2001-02-27
.
More fun in the Bean household! Mom has to go to New York, and Dad has to go away on IMPORTANT BUSINESS. So who looks after Clarice, Marcie, Minal, Kurt and Grandad while Mom and Dad are away? As a last resort Mom calls in Uncle Ted. After only two days of normality chaos takes over.
Albert the Guinea Pig gets lost, Minal has an accident and Grandad wanders off.
Lauren Child's book is a long way removed from the pastel coloured world of traditional kid's books. The illustrations are full on, with clever use of photomontage with text and type-fonts that go every which way.
Most children will get a kick out of the very stylish layout and quirky humour. You can really believe that young Clarice wrote this book. All young readers will certainly enjoy her latest story.

I have since purchased the book for many friends -- both for contempraries and for children. It's fun, beautiful and full of warmth!

Byrd Baylor is fantastic. this book should be shared with everyone you have ever spent a day looking at clouds with laying in a field of daisies. Or, better yet, anyone you care about. An incredibly beautiful, witty, imaginative, whimsical, clever, and original photo book! A great addition to any collection and can be enjoyed by viewers of all ages especially since the book is also a game of "Guess Who" since the names are scrambled. All your favorite personalities like you have never seen them. It is printed on gorgeous paper and bound classically. Also, what a great gesture by Sirota to give her proceeds to AIDS Project Los Angeles. Everyone should own one just for that. Makes a great Christmas gift for that special person you never know what to buy them! Go out and get two, one for you and one for that special person. I nominate it "Photo Book of the New Millenium". Hooray for creativity and sensitivity all wrapped up in one. Bravo Sirota!

You say you know movies? Can you name a film by a single photograph with a bit of trivia to boot? Okay, how about specifics? Can you remember the actors? The title? When it was released? Who was the director? Well, Cutler's book will find out. What about your friends? Can they remember film specifics better than you?
This book is incredibly easy to use. A large spiral ring binding allows for fast flipping and the pages stay put. Each movie's picture and trivia questions are neat and organized. This makes instant quizzing and reference a breeze.
For each movie presented, Cutler provides two pages. On the left is a photograph from that particular movie and on the right; is the trivia. The trivia is broken into four sections. One section features `PICTURE TRIVIA' WITH FOUR questions (who, what, when, who) and are worth certain points. Another is titled `BONUS TRIVIA' WITH three questions, worth ten points each. The largest area covers interesting anecdotes and is titled, `ABOUT THIS MOVIE.' To the far right of the page and sitting at an angle, the answers to the questions; all in small print of course.

About This Movie
Before Austin Powers and Dr. Evil, there was Wayne and Garth, one of the more successful "Saturday Night Live" sketches to be parlayed into a feature film. The stars of this comedy about a pair of friends with their own local public access show have indelibly made their mark on popular culture with the catchphrase "Excellent!" and "Party On!"
The creator of this book, Dave Cutler, is an award-winning freelance artist. His images have appeared in leading publications and corporate literature for 18 years. His fascination for moviemaking began as a little boy and continues today. He's also published a children's book titled, `When I Wished I Was Alone,' Oct. 2003.
The publisher, GreyCore Press, says "This book is the first in a unique series of picture-based trivia books that use great b & w and color photographs to test reader's knowledge of their favorite entertainment pastimes." Their next in the series will be PICTURES TRIVIA: SPORTS EDITION, scheduled to release in 2005.
My Rating
*Quality - excellent
*Style of presentation and authenticity of facts, sources, etc. - excellent
*Ability to prove points - excellent
*Target audience or age group - anyone, especially movie buffs of all ages.
*Usage - easily used as a game for one or more.
Cutler's trivia book is a treat for those bitten by the movie madness bug. A playful way to test movie knowledge and memory. Perfect on a coffee table, a desk, or as a gift.

The stills bring back so many memories and you feel as though you're enjoying the movie all over again. The book makes a great gift (for yourself!) or someone you love. I highly recommend it!
